To understand us as a collective is to find the time for debate,discussion,argument,listening to each other, trying to understand differing point of view, engaging, challenging our ways of thinking and honoring each other with compassion. This is precisely what this book does. Each story mentioned here is a survivor tale of those who were to bear the brunt of the senseless violence and terrorism. There will be many unsaid stories but it's important to atleast hear what these few stories want to underline. There is a profound sense of grief which is always present. A proud grief, but no less tormenting, and one that has changed the way they view their world, made them and us reconsider the small details.
Mumbai has always invoked a pleasant feeling in me. I am always in awe the way Mumbai bounced back after the attacks. Mumbai has been always a land with a spirit of gold. Everything and everybody is always on the move. There is no place to stop or dawdle and this is precisely what kept Mumbai going. Having walked through the very places which were attacked invokes a mixed feeling in me. Those scars also tell a story which needs to be nurtured and remembered.
If, for a species that seeks out meaning,stories help find our place within the wider world, these accounts over ten years are an affirmation that there is meaning and inter connectedness in the human existence despite the general bleakness of everything. These stories are reminders of the incredible bright light of oneness with the other.

The book is poignant, having stories that leave a funny feeling in your stomach. Reading accounts from real, actual survivors or terror is never easy- for those who are no longer with us, their families have had to go through a lot of struggle and emotional healing.
The book is beautiful, and it makes you go back and think about how granted we often take life- all it needs is a moment for things to end.

🩸গায়ে কাঁটা দেওয়া এক রাত। যদিও আমাদের বেশিরভাগ জনই হয়ত সেই রাতে মুম্বাই শহর থেকে কয়েকশো বা কয়েক হাজার মাইল দূরে ছিলাম, কিন্তু সেই দুর্ঘটনার ভয়াবহতা আমাদের গভীরভাবে আচ্ছন্ন করেছিল। আজও মনে পড়লে যেনো গায়ে কাঁটা দিয়ে ওঠে।
বছরের প্রথম এই বই দিয়ে শুরু করার বিন্দুমাত্র ভাবনা ছিলনা। কিন্তু হটাৎ হাতের সামনে পেয়ে যেনো আর নামিয়ে রাখতে পারলাম না। যদিও বইটি ২০১৯ সালে প্রথম পড়ি, তবে এই দ্বিতীয়বারের পড়ার অভিজ্ঞতা কলমে বন্দী করছি যাতে এই গ্রুপের সকলে এরকম একটি বইয়ের ব্যাপারে জানার সুযোগ পান।

✍️২৬/১১ সেই ভয়াবহ কাণ্ডের ১০ বছর পূর্তিতে 'Indian Express' সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় ভুক্তভুগী সেই মানুষগুলির কণ্ঠ জনসমক্ষে তুলে ধরার। যারা জড়িয়ে ছিলেন সেদিন তার ভিতর থেকে ৬৫টির বেশি পরিবারের সাথে সাক্ষাৎ করে উল্লেখযোগ্য ১০ জনের জীবনের এক স্বচ্ছ প্রতিকৃতি তুলে ধরা হয়েছে এই বইতে।
যাঁদের কথা উল্লেখ করা আছে তাদের কিছুজনের সংক্ষিপ্ত বিবরণ -
✍️ অপূর্ব, ধনী পরিবারের ছেলে, যিনি ২ দিন তাজ হোটেলের একটি ঘরে লুকিয়ে শেষে প্রাণে বাঁচেন। বলে রাখি, যে ৪ জন বেঁচে ছিলেন লুকিয়ে, ইনি তাদের একজন। ঘটনার সময় হারান নিজের সবথেকে কাছের দুই বন্ধুকে যারা সেদিন ওনার সাথেই হোটেলে এসেছিলেন। গুলিতে প্রাণ যায় তাঁদের।
✍️ ইন্সপেক্টর তুকারাম, গুলিতে শহীদ হন তিনি।
✍️জানা যায় গোবিন্দের কাহিনী, যিনি তাজে হিসেবের কাজ দেখতেন। প্রাণে বেঁচে গেলেও বহুদিন তাকে চিকিৎসাধীন থাকতে হয়। ঘটনার ভয়াবহতা তাকে ডিপ্রেশনে ঠেলে দেয়। বহু চিকিৎসার পর তিনি ফিরে আসতে পেরেছেন স্বাভাবিক জীবনে।
✍️ সদাশিব - এনার ঘাড়ে গুলি লাগে। কিন্তু ভাগ্যের জোরে প্রাণ ফিরে পান তিনি।
✍️ কিয়া, সুদূর ফ্লোরিডায় বসে খবর পান তার মেয়ে এবং স্বামী আততায়ীর গুলিতে নিহত হয়েছেন। তার জীবনে নেমে আসে আকস্মিক ঝড়।
✍️দেবিকা - কনিষ্ঠতম সাক্ষী হিসেবে বহুবার এনাকে আদালত চত্বরে আসা যাওয়া করতে হয়েছে। ঘটনার মূল অভিযুক্ত কাসবকে চিহ্নিতকরণের জন্য ইনি হয়ে উঠেছিলেন তখনকার খবর চ্যানেলগুলির মুল আকর্ষণ। মাত্র ১০ বছর বয়স ছিল তার, ডান পায়ে গুলিবিদ্ধ হলেও ভাগ্যজোরে বেঁচে যান।
✍️রাজন - মেইনটেন্যান্স ডিপার্টমেন্টের কর্মী ছিলেন, যিনি ভয়ানকভাবে গুলিবিদ্ধ হওয়ার পরও নিঃশব্দে বহু আটকে পড়া মানুষকে বেঁচে পালাতে সাহায্য করেন, কিন্তু শেষ অব্দি নিজে রক্ষা পাননি। হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় প্রাণ হারান তিনি।
✍️শেষে বলি সবথেকে গুরুত্বপূর্ন মানুষটির কথা - স্বর্গীয় মেজর সন্দীপ উন্নিকৃষ্ণান। দুর্ঘটনার রাতে অগণিত মানুষের প্রাণ বাঁচান ভারতীয় এই জওয়ান। শেষ অব্দি দেশের মানুষের সেবায় শহীদ হন সেই কলঙ্কের রাতে।
😔 মেজর সন্দীপের কাহিনী যেখানে ব্যাক্ত হয়েছে, সেখানে শেষে একটি লাইন আছে যা তাঁর বাবা মায়ের বলা -
"logon ke maan main Sandeep hai" ----
এখানে যদি আপনার চোখে জল আসে অবাক হবেন না, বরং না এলেই অবাক হওয়া স্বাভাবিক।
আমরা শুধু খবরে দেখেছি। কিন্তু যারা ভুক্তভুগী - তাদের মনের অবস্থা, ঘটনার পরবর্তী জীবন, তাদের বেঁচে থাকার লড়াই, স্বাভাবিক জীবনে ফেরার তাগিদ - কোনোটাই আমাদের বোধগম্য নয়।

We only mourn for suffering of those who’ve gone but sometimes it’s the far greater sufferings of the one who are left behind that makes our heart ache. This book has my heart❤️
