You Stole My Name is a fantastic rhyming book by Dennis McGregor. What really makes the book shine is the absolutely gorgeous illustrations that are so realistic and colorful! This is my favorite children 's book this year! Wow, the cute poems and the colorful paintings go so perfect together! Love it and so will kids of all ages!!!
Musically and graphics wise Dennis McGregor has always been one of the most creative folks I have ever met. From writing technical spec sheets to playing fiddle in a jazzy swing band, McGregor always brings his unique flair to the project. In "You Stole My Name", his most recent book, he unleashes his sense of whimsy; the result is a book that can be equally enjoyed by both parents and children. This is literature that will remain on a family's bookshelf for generations.
Stunning animal artwork. Amazing to look through all the pictures. Anyone that appreciates fine art or loves animals should enjoy this. Each spread has a short rhyming verse about two different animals that share some similarity in their name, accompanied by an amazing picture of the animals. This could be great for kids that love animals, but also great for adults as a coffee table book (or something). A quick read, but you'll spend far more time enjoying the art.
A book of rhymes about animals named after other animals. A clean and polished book. The rhymes are nice and fun. The style of the illustrations is hyper-realistic, with very bright colors, with playful compositions, creating a cool hypnotic effect with a bit of a metaphysical vibe. An artistic children's book. Fun and interesting to look at for both kids and adults.
I got this book because the title looked intriguing and was very pleasantly surprised to find brilliant illustrations and whimsical verses are enchanting and true to life. I would highly recommend this book to teachers and librarians to use within the classroom.
This fun book was also very informative. I was expecting a simple picture book but was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the often comical words in the book as well. The author was very clever. Great job.
This book is gorgeous. Stunning illustrations, and a nice hook for the content. It will be enjoyed by many. As a public librarian, I am struggling with the format. It will not fit on the shelf. If it was 75% of the size, I’d catalog it immediately. This was a donation to our collection, and I will pass it along to a child/family who will enjoy it at home for many, many readings. It would make a great gift for young animal lovers.
Young readers will love this book. The illustrations are wonderful, and the accompanying text explains in a few short words why these two creatures go together. This would make a great read-aloud, with time to discuss the details of the illustrations.
Thanks to Blue Star Press and Dennis McGregor for the opportunity to read and enjoy this book.
I received an electronic ARC from Blue Star Press through Edelweiss+. Four line poems accompanied by gorgeous full color illustrations on each page spread. Readers meet two animals in each poem; each shares at least part of a name. This is a lighter read that can lead to further research on the various animals. A great read aloud for families or classes.
The point of view shifted a lot. Sometimes it was the animal who stole the name speaking, then the animal whose name was stolen, and other times both. Ebook could have been double paged to view the animals while reading about them.
