Fly Me to the Moon, Volume 1 is a sweet, little romance read with lots of intrigue coming along. Is our mystery woman an alien? Some sort of goddess? So far, there's no real hints that I can find to determine this. We'll just have to read to find out.
This book has a fair bit of slice of life for two random people marrying each other because of a silly promise. It's a goofy yet lovable premise that I really enjoyed. It was light hearted and fun, which is what I wanted out of this read. It's just so light and fluffy and cute! Romance lovers will adore it!
Four out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and VIZ for sending me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
More like 3.5, but this lightweight fantasy? romance? mystery? where not much happens caught me in the right mood. Pleasantly lacking in fan service, and both characters seem respectful of one another despite their awkward behavior.
This is like one of the cutest series I have read and I love it.
So the book is about this guy Nasa and we see his childhood and all and it's mundane and one day when he meets a girl, he can't help but fall in love with her even after the accident and then you see his life after what she said and how it has changed, he thinks it's a joke and even you as reader think that until what happens.. happens.. and it's like one of the most weird twists I have seen.. she appears one day and they get married?! THAT'S CRAZY!
But I guess that's why he is flying over the moon as he feels like the luckiest guy in the world but we see their life as they are married with getting a bed and how they sleep and it's funny because we like the character know nothing of his wife and that creates so much mysteries.
There are so many questions but it's fun seeing these two convo and I can't wait to see how the rest of the series is!!
Nasa (yes that is his name) is a guy who wanted to achieve great things in life because people made fun of his name. In doing so he became getting everything he wanted in terms of grades and a life and then met Tsukasa, a strange girl who saves his life after he gets hit by a truck because he had his eyes on her. They quickly get married soon after and begin their life together.
And as strange as it sounds, it somehow works. The adventure of these two through early days of marriage is pretty great. Wondering what they can and can not do, see, touch. What they should do as a married couple. The mystery of where this girl came from. It all somehow works. The pacing works after the jarring start but it did take me a bit to get into the rhythm of it.
But overall super cute and fun. I'll be buying more.
My daughter loves this series. She's been asking me to try it for years, and I finally decided to give it a try this weekend. For her sake, I wanted to love it, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. It served mostly to introduce us to the characters and set everything up for the rest of the series.
Nasa, the main character, once had aspirations of achieving great success in his career but soon after meeting a "cute girl" who chooses not to stay in contact with him, his life began to feel "empty" and he stopped going to school. He moved into a small apartment and took up a job at a local convenience store.
The girl in question is the mysterious Tsukasa, and she randomly shows up a few years later with a marriage registration. We are given nothing about her, no reason as to why she left, why she's suddenly showing up again, or why she's so adamant about marrying Nasa... her one condition for being in his life again.
Nasa immediately agrees to sign the registration, and before the night ends, they are married, and she has moved in. It's crazy! He doesn't know anything about her other than that he thinks she's cute and he agreed to marry her! 🤣
This first volume didn't give me enough to convince me to continue on with the series. Nasa is such a bland character, and though the mystery surrounding Tsukasa may be more interesting, her standoffishness and blank facial expressions make me not care. It's kind of a weird story, and even though I'm sure it gets better, I just don't think it's a good fit for me. No rating.
Volume 1 doesn't give much away. You have introduction to Nasa, our protagonist. Driven because his parents picked such an over-the-top name and he wants people to think of him instead of NASA.
Then he sees "THE girl" and gets into and accident but nevermind, because his need to talk to "the girl" drives him to get up and chase her despite broken legs (how?!)
Stuff happens, time passes and we arrive at the premise of the story. Nasa is married to her. She is a mystery.
It's hard to make much of a decision because Vol 1 really doesn't give you much storywise. Nasa is not endearing, his backstory doesn't help his characterisation. I'm hoping this is a slow-burn manga that rewards you as you progress.
The artwork is nice, not spectacular but panels are clean and not overcrowded.
I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher for promotional purposes.
This was such a cute and sweet manga!
The story is very interesting to say the least. Essentially, the main character, Nasa, gets saved by a mysterious girl named Tsukasa. He immediately asks her out and she says yes on the condition that he marries her. This volume primarily explores the very early days of their marriage.
The plot is very straightforward and simple which I liked. Sometimes less is more and that was the case for this one. I also liked how sweet and wholesome it was. Their relationship was cute and slightly awkward (in an adorable way).
I liked that we don’t really know who Tsukasa really is. She’s a complete mystery. Is she from the moon? A goddess? An alien? Nothing is revealed in this volume, which added to the intrigue of the character.
As for the art style, it worked well for the story. This falls under the slice of life genre of manga, and the art really showcased that. I loved that it included a floor plan of their (very tiny) apartment.
Overall, this was a delightful start to the series! I’m curious to see where it goes and to find out the mystery behind Tsukasa.
Nasa Yuzaki works hard to overcome his first name and attain peak physical and mental abilities. Then he throws it all out the window when he meets and falls head over heels for the mysterious Tsukasa, who quickly leaves his life a stranger and then later re-enters it as his bride.
This book is cute and that’s both its blessing and its curse. Yuzaki and Tsukasa have a meet-cute that sees him throw away everything for a girl he barely knows, which the cynic in me thinks is insane but the romantic in me thinks is fairly sweet. Once she comes back in the picture things start to develop, but in what direction is anybody’s guess.
It seems to be my week for manga gags featuring blood gushing from wounds, and Fly Me To The Moon wins for the best one I read, so, uh, great? This book is not especially funny, it gets a couple narrator jokes in there, but it’s mostly just happy to amble along doing its own thing.
The problem with this book is how coy it is. There’s playing your cards close to your chest and then there’s burying the entire deck in your sternum. It’s not like playing the long game is a bad thing, per se, and the author admits that he had originally planned to reveal way more in the first volume and then dialled it back. We could have used a bit more than we got here.
There’s just so little else left except the charm of our leads interacting and while that is fun, it’s a very thin premise stretched infinitesimally small. What’s Tsukasa’s deal? Is she from the moon? Does she have psychic powers? Why does she need to get married? Did Yuzaki get critically injured and this is all a coma dream? Heck, given the way she draws Yuzaki in, she could be a succubus at this point and we wouldn’t know.
It’s stated outright that the intent is that we will learn more and look back on this with fresh eyes and appreciate all the clues from a fresh perspective. Well, this isn’t a mystery and the risk is that you’re not offering enough meat on the bone for readers to chew on while they wait.
I’m being a grump because I honestly don’t think this is a bad book, but the way it’s plotted and paced is not doing it any favours. If you asked me what the hook is, I have no idea. It’s two people shopping for futons right now and while it’s got enough to make me want to read a second volume, I hope it brings more to the table with subsequent instalments.
An odd little romance has a teenage boy derailing his academic life when he instantly falls for a mysterious girl who helps save his life after he's struck by a vehicle. Before passing out, he manages to confess his feelings, and she counters by proposing marriage then promptly disappearing. When she reappears much later, she's holding a marriage registration form, and they suddenly find themselves in a cute, chaste backward romance that gives the warm fuzzies even as it confuses me as to the nature of the bride. There's hints she may have a supernatural aspect, but just hints.
I'm getting the next volume to see if that reveals what's going on with her. I see that there are 20 volumes of this released in Japan, so I guess they have to start doing something other than acting all lovey-dovey all the time.
I received this copy from Netgalley and Viz media in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a cute manga! It follows Nasa, a very driven young man whose life shifts when he meets Tsukasa and immediately promises to marry her. While at the core we are trying to figure out who Tsukasa is, this is mostly just an adorable slice of life romance at the moment. I would love to see more about who she is, but with the Princess Kaguya references and her very peculiar nature, I find myself kind of loving the mystery as well. Nasa is kind of a precious dork so far, and I love how he has so much of his life together but he's a mess when it comes to her. These sorts of stories are not my norm and I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but I've been trying to branch out into new genres and this turned out to be just the fluffy humorous break that my mind needed. I'm really interested in seeing where volume 2 takes Nasa and Tsukasa.
Thank you Viz Media and Edelweiss for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This one is a little different. It doesn't offer any information Tsukasa but I think the mystery of her past makes this an interesting rom-com. It reminds me a bit of the series, Urusei Yatsura, a lovesick boy falling deeply in love with a beautiful girl but still does dumb things. Just this one doesn't have an aliens in it (which we know of...).
While this had a few cute moments, I have to say that nothing really happened here. I'm left with more questions than when I started and I don't really have a feel for where this story is going. The main female character Tsukasa doesn't reveal anything about herself and just like Nasa, I'm wondering why she was so insistent on marrying him. I don't know if I'm going to pick up the next volume or not. Sure there's the mystery of Tsukasa, but I don't think it's enough to hold my interest.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! This is just frikkin awesome! Several seriously LOL moments. She's cute, he's smart, hey they got married! I'm anxiously looking forward to further volumes. I have a... premonition... that there's more to her then we've seen so far. A LOT more. Hopefully nothing bad! I hope she doesn't turn out to be Satan, or abusive, or a looney tune (ok, ok, yeah they both gotta be a little goofy in the head, they way they got married)... I eagerly await the further adventures of these two. Art, simply fantastic. A bit simplistic, yet it fits well. Dialogue, a wee bit silly at times, but cute & decent. Characters, likeable, relatable (remind me to tell you all about that time I was on a train from Whitefish, Montana to Spokane, Washington, in the middle of a blizzard, & a random cute girl started talking to me, then came & sat with me, & after talking to me about an hour, tried to convince me to elope with her, buy a ticket to continue past Spokane to Seattle, & in her words "start an amazing life together"...), & interesting. She's adorable, so far.
It's cute but absolutely nothing happens... the basic premise is that a young man with the unfortunate first name of Nasa (means Starry Skies in Japanese) has a goal of being the best, smartest student of all time, so as to live down his name. One day out of the blue, he sees a pretty girl and gets hit by a huge truck. He survives but just before he passes out from shock he's pretty sure he agrees to marry her.... then she vanishes and he ends up dropping out of school and working part-time... until she suddenly turns back up in his life... and then they just play house for chapter after chapter. No effort is every made to explain who she is or where she came from or anything.
Cute little volume 1 of a shojo manga. I'm not in a hurry to pick up the next volume, but the story has been set up and I can see potential here. The only drawback for me is the age of the characters. They are very young to be in an adult situation like this. It's either going to be adorable or mad creepy.
Nasa is an 16 year genius is trying his best to get in the best high school around. That is, before he falls in love at first sight with a mysterious girl. She saves him from Truck-kun keeping him in this world (iykyk). He asks her out and she replies with "we can only be together if we get married." Struck by her beauty and boldness, he agrees. Then, she disappears for 2 years saying it's time to get married.
What a promising start to the manga! The artwork was absolutely adorable and I found both the main characters to be extremely mysterious, (and wanted to know more)! Especially his new wife.. Where did she come from? Did she really descend from the moon? What exactly does she want to achieve in marrying the MC??
I would definitely be interested in continuing the story in future volumes and i look forward to reading other works by Kenjiro Hata. 'Fly Me to the Moon' is perfect if you're looking for a short and fluffy romance manga.
Thank you to VIZ Media and Netgalley for providing the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is a quirky little manga, and let me tell you why.
Nasa is teased all growing up for his name. He didn't understand why for a long time, and then was determined to rise above it and become the best version of himself. He ends up distracted one night by a pretty girl, and ends up getting hit by a bus. He won't take it lying down though. He goes after the girl, and tells her that he likes her, and wants them to be together. She agrees, but only if he will marry her! Without thinking it through, he says YES!!! After this initial interaction, years pass. He works a lot, drops out of school, and goes on with his life. On his 18th birthday, she shows back up, marriage license in hand, ready to marry him as promised. This manga is a story about their marriage, and their budding love. She takes his name, and they are a family. There is a tone of loneliness to our girl, named Tsukasa. She doesn't have anywhere to go, but we don't know why. There are references to the tale of Princess Kaguya throughout the volume, so she may not be from here. It is not completely clear at this point. What I do know, is that this series is going to have the early marriage shenanigans. They have an ongoing joke about an "all-you-can-hold buffet" and it's really fun. I really enojoyed this volume, and am looking forward to continuing on with the series for now!
Honestly, I picked this up on a whim to review since it's a new manga from the creator of Hayate the Combat Butler and a Weekly Shonen Sunday series. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in a simple romcom in the awkwardness of young married life. I felt like it was super funny that they included a marriage form inside of the manga and how easy it was for them to get married in Japan. What I didn't like was the emptiness surrounding the devotional feelings that Nasa (protagonist) felt for his manic pixie dream girl Tsukasa, who saves his life while he was traveling in a snow storm to a high school exam. Nasa is fairly bland as a character and Tsukasa is too mysterious for the setup in the 1st volume for me to consider reading more.
One random thing is that they go shopping at Don Quixote knockoff and the Mawaru Penguindrum penguins replace the penguin😂
I'm sure fans of the creator will surely enjoy this manga, but for a newcomer, I've seen better romcom setups in We Never Learn, which has better general appeal along with more characters to interact with story-wise. This manga seems very average and not really worth picking up, although at least we know from the beginning that the guy does get the girl. ⭐️⭐️

This sounded like a cute little story, after reading the blurb, and I’m glad I read it, but it wasn’t a strong start.
The first volume is mostly build up and introducing everyone. The basic set up is established, enough to keep me invested, but nothing else happens. There’s no plot, but it wasn’t a detriment, nor did it meander. The slice of life scenes are cute, and I love seeing our couple grow closer, but it’s a big disconnect to the start of the mystery being set up over who this wife is and where she comes from, to regular everyday life where they are picking out a bed together. Yet I liked reading their dynamic, even without the answers provided to her origins. The manga is funny and sweet, and earnest in its emotions. It’s an unusual relationship, but one that has the foundations for something special. Sometimes I just want to read a romance without needless drama, and this fits that requirement perfectly.
I will definitely read volume 2, because the potential is there and I want to see the couple grow together. The set up promised a lot of interesting story in the future, so I’m really looking forward to it.
With a name like Nasa, you would have to be a high achiever to live up to the expectations. Although that was not his parent's intent when they chose their child's name, it was for the starry sky, a reflection of their romance. However, Nasa has done everything he can to get the best scores and be the smartest student. But after he gets in an accident he can only focus on one thing. Tsukasa appeared out of nowhere and saved Nasa the night he was hit by a truck. The only way he could ever talk to her again is if he agrees to marry her. So naturally, he says yes, but years go by and he never sees her again until his eighteenth birthday...
I know there is more to the story, it just has not been revealed yet! Regardless, the humor and blatant honesty of a young married couple were entertaining. This series is a light read set in the present day. I am excited to see what happens next in

This was an unexpected delight. I wasn’t sure if this was scifi or contemporary but as far as volume 1 goes it seems to be contemporary with a slight magical element that we haven’t fully explored yet. I do hope we get to see it in future volumes!
The two main characters relationship was insta love and I usually hate that but Nasa was just so adorable and sweet that I found that I didn’t mind it so much. It was a joy to see him all flustered around her all the time and seeing him attempting to figure out life as a married man.
Overall, I had a super fun time with this manga and I hope to continue with the series in the future!
A cute romance manga? YES PLEASE! The art is so pretty. I do feel the beginning is a little jarring... like it just throws the reader into the story and I wasn't sure if I'd missed something or not. Once, I caught on, it was great and the story is cute. Can't wait to read more!
A strange premise and mysterious execution, but ultimately the sweet slice of life interactions and trials and tribulations make me forget all that. There is an overarching narrative, but I don't much care; I stayed for the day to day interactions of all the characters.
This book is perfect for fans of the slice of life mangas and I highly recommend it. It is also called Over the Moon for You. Nasa Yuzaki is a teen genius (think Tony Stark smart) and the start of his budding relationship with his new wife, Nasa Yuzaki, who saves him from a car accident.
This was so cute! I can't wait to see how their relationship evolves and the background story of the main girl who is very mysterious. The first volume is mostly fluff, cute antics, not much story building yet but it kept my interest .
