Steve Sloan is searching for ... what? Happiness? That is the theme of the series of stories the longtime newspaperman is writing. But is he searching for his own happiness when he sets out to interview the many different people for his project? Or is Steve in pursuit of something else? Steve is a man on a mission, but the people he encounters along the way, including those from his past, may help him find the answers he seeks. Written with humor, compassion and his own unique brand of storytelling, author Mike Reuther presents his fourth book in his Sanity series of novels.
Mike Reuther uses his fervid imagination to create page-turning novels filled with interesting characters, many of them searching for happiness and their place in the world. His books include the acclaimed "Baseball Dreams, Fishing Magic" and the Amazon best-selling baseball novel, "Nothing Down." He's also the author of books that help writers realize their writing dreams, among them, "Write the Darn Book" and "How to Write a Book Without Going Crazy." A longtime journalist and freelance writer, he devotes the warmer months of the year to baseball and fly fishing, two of his passions that have served as the backdrop for his books. A seeker of truth but an all-around fun guy, he lives with his wife and kids near Williamsport, Pa.
This book gets two stars only because I finished it. I finished it because I kept hoping it would either make a point or fail so miserably I could trash the heck out of it. It did neither. It is just a rambling, misanthropic account of some guy's midlife crisis. It's another book where nothing happens, and it is supposed to be philosophically meaningful, but that only works if the author is a philosopher. Mike Reuther is just this guy, ya know?
It goes without saying this was a free copy I got from Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.
I may not be the target audience of this book but I can appreciate the sentiment. I have been someone who has thought about the past, choices made for the better or worse, the what ifs. Maybe this book was written for someone like after all. It certainly makes you think about life and that just may be what a good book is all about.
I won this Kindle edition book in a GoodReads giveaway - thank you to everyone involved. This book is written to make you think about your life and the path we took to get to where we are today.
I got this book through a goodreads giveaway I got about halfway through reading this morning and just didn't have any inkling to return to it when I finished my lunch break. But as a 26 year old girl, I don't think I'm the target demographic.
