Conflicting imperatives tear Lucas in different directions as a mounting threat to Shangri-La's survival looms large. In this eighth installment in the bestselling Day After Never series, Lucas faces more ominous challenges than ever before and must risk everything if he, and those he loves, are to survive.
Really enjoyed this installment of Lucas’ adventures. However, the terrain of Provo and Green River, Utah could have been portrayed in better detail and used more accurately in the battle with Elijah’s army. I found the inaccurate details distracting and therefore the battle less believable. Accurately describing the terrain of an area leads to believability to those who have traveled those areas. Such as the path through Reno or the Provo Valley, naming lakes properly instead of Provo Lake it should have been Utah Lake. But yes, there is a rail line straight from Reno to Salt Lake City into Provo it goes through Price and then eventually into Colorado. So some accuracy was right on track but others not so much.
The train was an interesting addition. Lots of mayhem and killing. Lots of murderous people. Lucas saved the day and he’s not done yet. I’m guessing he’ll be going after the Illuminati and fighting off the Crew and more Chinese. It dawned on me that in this series, women are pretty secondary. That fits with the Old West vibe, which is pretty well done. I get tired of never-ending series books, but I keep reading. But lately, it’s pretty much only the last chapter or two that I want to read.

I've enjoyed the series, I prefer audio books these days, this was my second go around for the series hoping that the next books would have been available in audio by this time but alas they are not. From what I've gathered the author is not going to release any of the remainder of this series in audio format because of cost issues so I guess this is the last one for me. I was hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the story, but I'll just be satisfied with it up to this point. Good luck Lucas, keep fighting the good fight LOL
Book eight in this series. A deadly virus has decimated most of civilization, if not all. Gangs of ruthless killers are controlling most of America's major cities. A cult called the illuminati is also utilizing, or better yet bribing gangs to do their bidding. The survivors are now fighting back. And their winning. The tide is turning in their favor. This is another excellent novel by Russell Blake. Enjoyed immensely!
I am a sucker for book series. I guess I just love long stories that keep developing. I got this book the day after it came out and read it within a few days. The story picks up where it left off in the last book and keeps on getting better. Love the old characters and the new ones as well. Great story line, can't wait for the next one.
Just more blood, death and violence with the main character. If that’s your thing you’ll enjoy the series. I’m just plodding through it now to get to the end. A few characters I’d like to see find some happiness in this apocalyptic story but don’t think it’s going to happen. Just going from one bloody war to the next.
There's some issues with the author's understanding of decay, how soon after the living has become, un- living. Bodies don't smell like death as soon as they die and bodies don't Bloat immediately. Thesaurus is still being used excessively. All the bad guys use AK-47 and the good guys use ARs and M4 .. and always on three round burst for some reason.. 😑
The author continues to weave a complex story with multiple variables and an abundance of action. This book includes a somewhat renovated steam engine train salvaged by gangsters from the Sacramento Train Museum, thus adding a new element to transportation. Violence is still the rule of the times, but this volume brings a number of positives and HOPE!
Wow! What a bloody ride this was. I’d like to see what happened to Elijah. This is one of the best series detailing survival in the apocalypse. Lucas is a Texas Ranger on a mission. This is worth the read.
This is an exceptional series with action packed scenes page after page. The characters are interesting as well. No matter which way Lucas turns, there is trouble and he simply can’t walk away.
Very entertaining series that keeps me up past my bedtime.
I liked that good continued to win. Too much "not good" winning in real life, its nice to have a story where good and honorable actions are rewarded. And not just at the conclusion of the story.
No story here, just one battle running into the next. The author needs to take some time and develop the relationships he established in earlier books.
I know something is going to happen to lucas. His battles have been going on forever. I don't want anything to happen to him, but a cat only has 9 lives.....
Lucas Shaw runs into trouble everywhere he goes. No matter how hard he tries to go towards home he ends up helping others fend off or vanquish evil. Meanwhile, those in Shangri-La are fighting their own battles to survive. And, the Illuminati have their hands stirring the pot against those who do not want their rule.
Russell’s eight novel in The Day After Never series, Legion follows Lucas as he winds his way back to Sierra and the kids. There seems to be a never-ending series of potholes he must navigate to get there. The crazy self-proclaimed prophet from book seven leads his people to exact revenge on the folks Shangri-La. Will any of them find sanctuary?
I love this series, but I’m ready for it to come to conclusion. There are only so many ways Lucas can escape death.
