Set in the Reacher Universe by permission of Lee Child Rock Wahlman...
United States Navy Master at Arms, E-8, retired. Three and a half years have passed since he discovered that he is the product of a human cloning experiment, an exact genetic duplicate of a former Army officer named Jack Reacher.
Once a fugitive from justice—and a target for multiple hired assassins—Wahlman has settled into a new career as a private investigator. He has a wife named Kasey to come home to at night, a stepdaughter named Natalie starting college, and a cat named Alice who's a little too clever for her own good.
In short, Rock Wahlman is a happy man.
But when a celebrity lookalike shows up at his office with a stalking complaint, things start going wrong in a hurry.
Because Wahlman ends up passing on the case...
And the young lady ends up dead...
And the movie star—the one she bore a striking resemblance to—just happens to be in town for a horse race.

Praise for Jude Hardin’s Thrillers: POCKET-47 sucked me in and held me enthralled. Author Jude Hardin keeps the pace frantic, the thrills non-stop, but best of all is his hero, the wonderfully ironic Nicholas Colt. This is a character I'm eager to follow through many adventures to come. —Tess Gerritsen, New York Times bestselling author of DIE AGAIN: A RIZZOLI & ISLES NOVEL
The best PI debut I've read in years, fit to share shelf space with the best of Ross Macdonald, Sue Grafton, and Robert B. Parker. POCKET-47 is so hot you may burn your hands reading. Highly recommended. —J.A. Konrath, author of the Jack Daniels mysteries
Hardin gets everything right in his powerhouse thriller debut, which introduces rock star–turned–PI Nicholas Colt. —Publishers Weekly on POCKET-47
KEY DEATH is an exhilarating thriller that punches way above its weight. It hits you hard and fast with crackling suspense, hair-raising twists and stunning revelations. Word of advice: don't start on this one unless you're prepared to stay up all night. —John Ling, author of THE BLASPHEMER
Colt is a physical, no-holds-barred PI, reminiscent of Robert B.
After surviving a secret government conspiracy to murder him, Rock Wahlman has finally cleared his name and set up a business as a private detective. Kasey has married him and her daughter lives with them. Life is not easy, but it seems to be good, as Hardin gives Wahlman a very interesting mystery in which a woman who strongly resembles an A-list actress is murdered and Rock comes to believe that the actress herself is set to be the next victim. The earlier books in this series were all driven by the conspiracy to kill Rock and his understandable desire to survive their attempts. This one is much more like a traditional Jack Reacher story with Rock struggling to do what’s right for a stranger he has at first not even met.
Overall a good adventure. I started the series a while back and had trouble getting in to it. I picked it up yesterday and zipped through. All 7 plus picked up # 8.
The stories are jack reacher. Good adventure action stories. Massive violence from all directions, morally corrupt bad guys, surprisingly detailed knowledge of the specifics of setting for an INT insertion, And of course the fallibg in to undying love.
My grumble is that what most authors consider a section Jude Hardin believes is a book. Book 8 was a 30 minute read and was unsatisfying particularly since i just spent the same amount on a 12 hour audio book.
Well, the storyline about the super secret military cabal out to kill Rock Wahlman has apparently worked itself out in the last book. Now we find our hero married and working as a private investigator. I didn't enjoy this book as much now that our hero is on his own as a working class hero. I moved it down to two stars, it was okay. I was a little disappointed that Rock was almost strangled to death by a man who was swarmed and stung almost to death by hornets. As big and strong as he was, he couldn't seem to break away from the man...curious I thought, and as I said disappointing. I'll do one more book in this series, but then I think I'm done.
Rock Wahlman's problems have all been taken care of. Resolved. The illegal cloning experiments permanently shut down. Now Rock is married. Had a step daughter. He's a licensed private investigator. He turns down a case for a client, a stripper who is a look a like for a famous actress. Then she is brutally murdered. Rock feels responsible. He is determined to find justice for the dead lady who He turned down.
This could be titled a day in the life of ....... This reads like a short story - I read it in a couple hours. For this Jack Reacher clone this was unusual. A movie actress gets kidnapped and has to be found before she is killed. Whole book revolves around this one event. Still interesting and well done.
This story just wasn’t up to the thriller status of the others. Maybe because Wahlman was starting to be a PI. The again Hardin didn’t keep Wahlman in Reachers character by almost letting him get killed by a dead guy? Really, Hardin you went in the wrong direction on that move. All I. All it was ok. 4.5
It was a good quick read, however, not enough action compared to the first 7. I am curious if this charter will continue on with his P.I. business. I wouldn't mind reading more books with Rock Wahlman in the future.
This is completely off the track of the first 7 books. To be honest, this one is MUCH more intriguing. Still very short and novella-ish - however, I really enjoyed the plot theme and the switch of employment, real life, etc.
Excellent short story but disappointing in that it was a, in fact, short. I expected a longer book with twists and turns as we're presented I the first 7 books.
'Ricochet' was a great addition to a thrilling series. I love how the story has progressed. Full of action, mystery and great characters. A great add to your tbr list.
