Dirty #6

Dirty Like Zane

Rate this book
A secret marriage romance, featuring a bad boy hero who’s trying to be good, and a kick-ass heroine whose only weakness is the man she can’t resist. Zane and Maggie have a secret;
one that could cost them everything. A crazy night in Vegas almost two years ago, and Zane Traynor and Maggie Omura are still dealing with the hangover.
Because now they’re husband and wife.
Sort of…
It’s complicated. She refuses to let him in. He refuses to let her go.
And neither of them is willing to walk away.
Both of them keep holding onto this screwed-up thing so stubbornly and so tightly, it’s bound to break.
And yet, it can’t break. Not in the middle of a world tour. As assistant manager of Zane’s mega-famous rock band, Dirty, Maggie is determined to keep things professional—and keep away from Zane on the road.
She can’t afford to jeopardize the job she loves, even for a hot-as-hell rock star.
Which means she can never let herself fall for her “husband”… or end up in his bed. Except that she already has… on both counts.
And Zane’s hellbent on getting her there again. Unfortunately for Maggie, Zane Traynor is never gonna give up on what he wants.
And what he wants is his wife.

***4.5 STARS***

I had to skip around in the series to get to Zane’s story and it was definitely an emotional roller coaster.

Zane Traynor is the front man/lead singer of the rock band Dirty and he epitomizes a rock star. Manwhore galore, weed head and reformed alcoholic he enjoys his life except he has fallen for his manager’s assistant Maggie May and unknown to everyone is the fact that the two of them eloped two years ago and were married. Now Zane wants his wife...he wants what his other band mates have found so he goes about wooing Maggie in his way but she is not impressed because she has seen Zane in action with women and she has mixed feelings about trusting him.

This was definitely an engaging story. It dealt with addiction in all its forms and how love can cause change. I highly recommend this one. Not a stand-alone. You will be lost if you haven’t read at least the first two books in the series.

I’m someone that I need to try my best to finish a book once I get started but I just can’t with this book!
He slept around for eight years whilst knowing her, two years he was married to her but he still slept around. The worst he slept with a woman the h hated before and after his marriage to her. The h was PATHETIC! The whole “I can’t trust him because he’s a cheating addict but I can’t keep my hands off him” was in full blast in this book. I seriously despised her and no I didn’t find her strong for sticking by him. She had no self respect every time she went all hormonal next to him and forgetting what her head was saying. She enabled him in so many ways to still sleep around because why wouldn’t he when he knew she would still sleep with him too whenever he crooked his finger?! What was even worse she didn’t want to divorce him because she was addicted to him. I really didn’t like either of them but I always set a high example on the heroine in my books, I prefer them to respect themselves enough that they can control themselves around a guy who they know is bad news and this one was one of the worst in my reads of a weak female with no common sense just her “betraying body” leading the way.
I won’t rate this as I just could not finish it.

This book was worth the wait and the build-up. This is hands down my favorite book in the series. The end result of a 6 book series. With the exception of Dirty Like Me teased Zane and Maggies story. Diamond sure knew how to ramp up the anticipation for this ending!

The characters were amazing and FINELY learned to communicate without sex. It does take them a while to get there, but once they do, it's an amazing sight too behold.

“When you’re in a relationship, love isn’t a noun, man. It’s a f*cking verb. Maybe you can’t always choose who you fall in love with, but it’s a choice to wake up every morning and love the one you’re with, to be there for them and do whatever it takes to put their needs right up there front and center with your own.”

The addiction aspect was spot on. The feelings and emotions and turmoil of the characters reeled me in a kept me there. Lots of authors delve into addiction. They talk about the bad part, the rehab, the getting clean. Not many authors talk about cravings that still occur years after putting down the drink. Not many authors write about the substitution, replacing the substance with s*x or other unhealthy activities. Diamond does a fantastic job here of highlighting the real-life struggles from the after effects of getting sober. I think this is a reason that Zane is so easy to like and relate to in this story. His essence feels lifelike. He is real and flawed, filled with hope and perseverance.

“What else have you got? The past is done. The future is uncertain. All you’ve got is this one moment, right now. You’re alive and sober, right now. What are you gonna do with this moment?”

Even though it works as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading it last since each book has a little of a backstory to this one.

The author could have easily ended with this book. Thank goodness she starts a new series, The Players. Ash's new band will now get their own happy endings. I look forward to Ash getting his happily ever after since a few of the books crush him, and I love him.

I'M A MESS

3.75/5

Ever since Dirty Like Me, I've had my eye out on these two. Then Dirty Like Us, and I was practically pulling my hair out at these two. Then Dirty Wedding Night, and I was just HOPELESSLY falling for these two.

This story, this relationship, the emotions, the complex feelings, it was so well-written. I've loved Maggie since book one. I was iffy about Zane, but I still loved him. Then this book? It shattered all my expectations for Zane.

I won't spoil it, but essentially Zane and Maggie were able to prove their love to each other in the best ways possible. And holy cannoli, it was heart-wrenching to read.

Maggie and Zane were complicated, layered, dynamic characters. Both of whom demanded attention from the reader. Their narration styles were executed flawlessly. While I think Diamond sort of peaked with Jude's narrative style, Zane is a very close second.

The reason this book isn't a five-star read for me is because I think the spice could have been more descriptive and better written. There are a couple quality scenes, but I expected better from Diamond. I think Diamond CAN write superb smut, but sort of stopped writing detailed smut after the first couple books.

Overall, a nice conclusion to the series and I'm very sad to say goodbye to these two characters after all the time I've spent thinking about them.

I devoured this entire series. If I have a hard time putting a book down and find myself procrastinating everything else in my life, it’s a good sign for the book and I found myself doing just that with this entire series.

If you enjoyed any Ana Huang books, you’ll love these except there a bit more “wholesome.” We love some spicey smut and smut done well. Whew.

Sometimes characters could get repetitive in annoying behavior but I think that’s what also makes these books realistic too in ways of human behavior. Loved how they all came together in the end!

I debated for 24 hours in what to post for this review. I have been looking forward to this book since the first one. I was so excited I was checking Amazon all day for 24 hours in case it posted early. Zane and Maggie have by far been my favorite characters. But for the first half of the book, I was asking myself why. I hated it. I almost DNF and had my one star review already in my head. For one I had no idea that Zane was still screwing around once they were married. I thought there were one of two times after Maggie blew him off, but somehow I missed something and didn’t realize he was still slutting it up. But of course true to fashion, even though these books are supposed to be for woman, we have Maggie being chaste and pure since their marriage. That whole scenario is a mans dream, I don’t know one woman who would consider that romantic. My main issues with the first part of this book was that the sweet tender Zane who seemed to really love Maggie was commited to her, disappears. In his place was a selfish whiny man child, who cares nothing for her feelings and was all about “me, me, me”. She was a prize he wanted to win. The author rehashed what I deducted was an old argument, where Maggie flat out told him that she needed him to value their marriage to really consider him. And the next scene is almost comical. She’s told him what she needs and he’s like an idiot banging his head against the wall like why won’t she be with me... What saved this from being a one star review is that the author had a method to her madness and wasn’t just being completely obtuse. His selfishness became a part of their journey. I’ve tried to leave this review without being too spoilery, so I don’t want to go into the details of how everything happens. Overall the book wasn’t bad, but the journey broke my heart a bit and at the end I didn’t feel satisfied. I felt that Maggie deserved better and should have had it. No matter what journey he was on, I wanted the guy Zane was alluded to be in previous novels. The inherent selfishness was definitely glossed over In previous books, and I jumped into this ocean not ready to swim. This may not be a dealbreaker for other people, so I encourage anyone to give this book a shot. Just be aware that there is more sadness and let down than you were probably expecting. Have a good rom/com ready to balance out the book hangover.

This is about redemption and loyalty. Loving someone even on the hard days. Zane and Maggie's road isn't easy. It's not short either. We've seen them have their ups and their downs. But when they finally make it to the finish line, you'll be cheering them on. Ya know with the rest of the Dirty clan.

3.5⭐️ - Lord almighty this was way too long! Like beating a dead horse repeatedly. And it’s not like it wasn’t good because I loved parts of this but there were just pages and pages of internal dialogue that was so repetitive.

I actually loved some of the push and pull between Maggie and Zane. Her reticence to fully love Zane and Zane’s refusal to let Maggie go. The passion was always there but her fears and his addictions seemed insurmountable at times. Of course it was only a matter of time before they got their shit together but the angst was worth it.

This had so much freaking sex for no reason. It was just too much. Like we get it, they were fully sexually compatible but enough already. It was relentless and not always in a good way.

Zane cheating just made me sad. And one could argue he wasn’t really cheating because Maggie refused to acknowledge their marriage but for someone who claimed to be devoted and completely in love, he sure had a funny way of showing it. It wasn’t a deal breaker for me tho. It was all part of his addictions - which were some of the most compelling elements of the book. Once Zane finally admitted alcohol wasn’t his only addiction and his request to allow himself time to deal without a physical relationship with Maggie, it made his character more emotional.

No surprise, Zane is a dirtbag. This book could've been much shorter.

It's such a disappointment when half of the book seems to be about OW/cheating drama. And how could it not when hero being a manwhore and heroine acting like a nun for being in love with said hero is such a commmon plot? It's also a very tired double standard. We all know that women can very well date and fuck a guy being in love with someone else, so please stop making our heroines go through this kind of emotional ordeal and humiliation without dishing some back.

And to make everything more clichéd it was no surprise that Zane would go ballistic when some dude made a pass at Maggie. Is that kind of hipocrisy supposed to be flattering? "I can cheat but you can't have another man interested in you".

Maggie deserved better. Apparently she spent 8 years deserving better and even though the characters went through some major development I still couldn't get over the fact that he cheated on her even while claiming to love her since he met her. What a joke, fictional men were supposed to be better than real ones.

Zane and Maggie have been secretly married almost two years, and through most of that marriage Maggie has managed to avoid Zane except for the times that she was sleeping with him. Zane just wants Maggie to admit that there are feelings there and thinks the perfect opportunity to do that will be the 'Dirty' tour that will last months. Maggie is still content on avoiding her husband and rides on the tour bus that has a 'no dudes' policy that she came up with. This won't stop Zane though and he corners Maggie every opportunity he has.
The two end up sleeping together a few times and each time after Maggie leaves regretting everything. After one encounter where they don't use protection Maggie really freaks out and tells Zane she's done with him but his jealousy gets the better of him one night after that and he ends up blurting out to all their friends that she's his wife and after a blow out fight with Maggie goes to the desert with Seth where he decides to get clean and give Maggie her space.
For weeks Zane is clean and sober and letting Maggie have her space but she misses him and is ready to admit she loves him but wants him to make the move first and is frustrated when not only he doesn't he tells her they shouldn't sleep together. They work things out and get matching tattoos and renew their wedding vows after an article leaks about their secret wedding.
I absolutely love Maggie and Zane they were best friend also so they genuinely missed each other when they didn't talk. I love that they worked things out for the end of this series and that Zane got clean and stopped sleeping with tons of woman. I thought Maggie was a little more stubborn than she needed to be but upon meeting her dad, you can't really blame her. I'm going to miss all the 'Dirty' characters but thought this was an excellent wrap-up.

I love Zane and Maggie 😫😭😍😍

"Maggie May.
That night we spent in Vegas rocked my world. What happened the next morning… blew it wide open. What happened in the weeks that followed almost killed me. Pretty sure it almost killed you too. You wanna look me in the eye and tell me you don’t love me? Go ahead. I’m waiting. But sweetheart, I’m guessing that isn’t happening anytime soon. I know I’ve fucked up. You’re probably thinking if I could take it all back, I would. You’d be wrong. Maybe you’re waiting for me to apologize, but babe, I’m never gonna do that. I’m never gonna apologize for loving you. Zane."

“Gonna show you who your man is,” he growled, his fingers digging into my thighs as he hiked me up and pounded into me. “No one else gets this pussy. It’s mine. I’m your husband and this shit belongs to me. All of it. Don’t even think about giving it to someone else. You’re mine.” Him

“She needs the shit you don’t wanna say, brother. The shit you don’t talk about with anyone else. Your addiction, your demons, whatever it is. You can’t talk to her about that shit…” He shook his head. “Might as well burn that marriage certificate they gave you two in Vegas.” Seth(friend/bandmate)

Part of it was a little too wordy for me. The author kept saying the same stuff over and over again.

**Secret Marriage 😍😍

3.5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐.5🎧

It took me a little bit to come back to this series. I feel as though if I had pushed through, I would have hated this book. So, I am glad I gave myself a break.

There were parts that I wanted to slug Maggie. No joke, she was so childish. But once Zane grew up some, I noticed she grew up some. Blaming daddy issues can only go so far, you know.

I LOVE that Seth took Zane away from everything and just laid it out. Was like, look, you're hitting the weed too hard. You know what is going to happen. And then you know the consequences, and I think taking him away from everything and just having this talk is like something clicked. I love that after this, it wasn't easy, but Zane then took steps to keep himself completely sober.

That's the Zane I liked. That's the Zane Maggie needed.

LOVED the narration. Ava and Lee are perfect; can we get more of them, please?

4.5 🌟 Zane and Maggie - hell yes! We've been teased the whole series with these two, and Zane comes off like a total ass but he's fully redeemed in this story, and I just loved it. It's a rollercoaster of emotion as these two fight for each other, their happiness, and Zane for his sobriety. I *loved* this series. It was so fun, sexy, had great characters and drama!

I'm OBVIOUSLY reading Ash's story in the next series. I need him to get his HEA!

*I received an ARC of this book free from the author.*

If you've been reading the Dirty series like I have then I bet you are as excited for this book as I was. Ever since Dirty Like Us when Zane and Maggie got married in Vegas they've been slowly killing me. Every interaction since then has had me yearning to know what's going on with them. Trust me, this book did not let me down.

The divide between love and hate is sometimes a very fine line.

Maggie has always been in love with Zane, but to her he's too similar to her father. And she will not become her mother. She wouldn't survive the broken heart. So instead of acting as the wife she is she tries to pretend the vows meant nothing and continue on as normal. Only problem with that is she would love nothing more than to be his wife.

"Men get smarter when they don't have sex, and women get stupider?"

Zane knew the wedding wasn't a farce. He wanted to marry Maggie. He wants to be the husband she deserves. The only problem is that he doesn't even know where to begin. He knows she'll fall for his charm whenever they're alone, so he'll use that to his advantage, but eventually she'll start to hate him for her weakness.

"This girl...everything about this woman was my kryptonite."

The one thing that'll save this marriage...Zane will have to man up and face his truths. He can't hide in denial forever.

"Me: Please don't ever drink again. Please don't smoke pot anymore. Please don't sleep with other women. Please just stop.
Zane: please be my wife" - This has to be my favorite text exchange between them.

Dirty Like Zane is the conclusion to the Dirty series and it's been one hell of a ride. Jaine Diamond you rock! I'm looking forward to finally reading Ash's story in the spinoff series coming in 2019.

The Book that would Never End

Hated Maggie in this book. She was immature weak and had some type of deepentql disorder. Forget Zane's sobriety she was way more screwed up

She was too dumb to accept people for who they were. Her dad was who she was and she was so super clueless she flew trying to make him into someone else. Why did this author make Magery so unlikeable and clueless in life? No Idea!

Zane was just masochistic. I get the spin later of his sobriety being an issue but oh this was a tedious book.

These people thoughts were a big focal point and their thoughts kept disappointing. They weren't very bright.

Zane was too weak and in love and begging begging begging. I desperately wanted him to move the heck on already. She didn't deserve him. She needed serious psychological assistance.

So if he needed to get of weed, she needed to get help with her anxiety and phobias. Daddy issue? More like inability to accept reality. This is the book.that would NEVER end.

Maggie was so unlikeable and a bit of an idiot. Zane was a weakling who ran behind a strange female. I just couldn't get why he wanted her. I get they were friend but didn't feel their connection sexual or otherwise

He did more for her and what did she do but push him away? I mean he married her to prove something to her father. Guess that makes him a bit off his rocker too. However, if she loved him all the push and push was irritating. Especially for two years

Terrible book in the series and I liked them both in other books
Just not a fan of their long drawn out story.

Happy ending

SAD TO SAY this series is over but it really was a good one. Zane and Maggie have finally made their marriage public following a lot of angst on Maggie’s part. I can understand her feelings of fear because of Zane’s addictions but her back and forth with his feelings just got irritating. On the other hand, her father’s relationship with her was seriously sad and cruel.

On to the Player series!

The Delight
The final book in the Dirty Series! I finally told myself I couldn't save it forever. Zane and Maggie's story has already started and this book is just what happens after two years of secrets. Watching both of these characters overcome some deep problems becomes the awesome sauce of the story.

Review
Zane is the lead singer of Dirty and a big part of the series. Childhood friends with most of the band, he also has dealt with alcohol addiction. Upon seeing a fellow band member, Seth, almost die from an overdose on drugs, Zane goes into rehab and has been clean since. It's not always easy, but he doesn't want to return to what he was under the influence of alcohol.

Maggie came on as a helping had to the manager. She witnessed Zane's downfall into alcohol and his return. Secretly even to herself, she loves Zane and hates him as well. He reminds her of her one hit wonder father who has never loved her.

In a novella between stories, you learn that Zane and Maggie get married with her father as a witness. Maggie thinks it is a joke, while Zane means every word and makes it real. For two years they have a non-marriage with cheating, betrayals, misunderstandings and addictions rearing their head not in alcohol. Zane is madly in love with Maggie, but continues to hurt her. Maggie loves Zane, but she can't get over her fear of falling for a guy who can't love her. Zane hurts Maggie. Maggie hurts Zane.

Now they are on tour. Seperate buses. He wants a real marriage while sucking on pot continuously. He tries to tempt her with sex, but he also tries to talk to her. Maggie avoids him to the point of being mean. She gives into the sex, but tears him apart with her wicked mouth and wit. And after one particularly bad argument where Zane is questioning having a drink. That is the turning point.

This deals with addicts and the crutches they need to survive. Seth offers Zane advice knowing what he is going through. It isn't an easy story at first. It's tough watching two people in love destroy each other without even knowing it. Love wasn't the problem. It was just all the other crap that goes with it.

This also was a wrap up story for the series. All of the band members have found love and even a few non-band members. Babies are starting to pop up and out. They are at the top of the charts, high on life and ready to let us move onto another band who needs our reading love.

This was a great way to end the series with the member of the band not so easily replaced nor would they want to replace him. The woman who has taken care of them all finally getting to look after her own love life. The guy who just wants to be loved figuring out he has to love himself first. And realizing the struggle will never be over. It was a great way to send us off and I was happy I didn't put this book off too long.

O.M.G. After being teased about the mysterious marriage between Maggie and Zane, finally we have their story in Dirty Like Zane. And whoa, what a story it is!

As their assistant manager, Maggie’s seen it all. Seen all the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to Zane Traynor. He’s her greatest love and her biggest regret. And as her husband, one of the biggest failures. And she’s tried to keep their relationship on the “professional only” level. She’s not willing to let her heart get involved, because that’s when things get more screwed up. Zane may be her husband, but it’s only on paper, right?

Uh. Wrong. Zane’s bound and determined to win Maggie over. To be a husband to her in every sense of the word. But that’s going to take a whole lot of work on his part—work to prove to Maggie he’s sincere and work on himself to be a better human being.

Man, I couldn’t wait to read this final installment of this amazing Dirty series. And while I absolutely loved the others in the series, Dirty Like Zane is my favorite. I loved the give and take between Zane and Maggie. The push/pull of their love and their need to be in a healthy place. I loved their love—that they truly did love each other and that they found their happily ever after.

Dirty Like Zane is sexy, swoony, heart-felt, and just the perfect ending to this series. ~ Missy, 5 stars

This is the second book in this series that I read. I’m a big mood reader and the Zane/Maggie tension from book one was pulling at me.

When I tell you that I cried…

As a sober woman in recovery, I was NOT prepared for the level of real that the author was gonna bring to this story. Zane’s story arc as he wrestles with just existing sober while relationships, life, and feelings are a thing was so on point. The author has got to have experience with it. I mean definitely, right? The shit that Seth says to Zane out in the desert is word by word things my sponsor has said to me. Lord, I just cried. The delusions, fear of rejection, the shame, the powerlessness- she wrote it very well.

And then the blend of all that with also making this a romance book? They battle it out in a way that only people with trauma and addiction between them can. But the author doesn’t give up on them or let either of them settle for toxicity. She makes them work for it. HEA guaranteed but you gonna cry first lol.

Actual Rating: 3.25, rounded down.

Okay. This is my first erotic romance in A LONG TIME and it was a pleasant surprise. Lots of good smexy times abound, but it also had great melodrama, jealousy and one of my favorite tropes (try to guess which lol). Anyway, the obvious problems aside (there was some macho "poor me" shit but it was rectified swiftly), I loved how honest and seriously "post-addiction" is handled by some of the characters in this book. My favorite line from the book comes from one of those characters. I "Aww'd" out loud after reading what he said about choosing to love and live every day. That resonated with me, hence the rating.

Good read.

I think this one was probably the most emotional of all the books. I actually felt a little teary once. Maggie was frustrating to the point of making me want to scream. I wanted to shake Zane several times. Bottom line though, I think this might have been my favorite book. It certainly had me on a rollercoaster of feelings.

I really enjoyed this one. It was great FINALLY getting Maggie and Zane’s story. Heavy issues were respected by everyone. Seth’s part in this story was awesome. Great conclusion to the Dirty series.
