In the dark of the city, the dragon’s eyes see everything.

But when her entire team is murdered, she finds herself in a foreign land without any allies.

The Master of Kung Fu and Friendship was born in the smog-wastes of New Jersey, then journeyed to a mountain in Asia. There, he learned of the power of friendship, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is Kung Fu.
He now resides in a dojo in North Carolina, where he has sired a future champion with his Mistress of Friendship. He writes of fantasy and humor, strong women and dragons.
He is the author of The Wicked Instruments series and The Dragon's Dream Saga. His biggest influences are the greats in humor - Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, and Chuck Palahniuk.
The world of this book is filled with both tech and magic. Berlin is ruled by a dragon who owns a powerful corporation. We are immediately thrust into an action scene headed by Cora Blake. She has one last mission to do before she retired at the ripe old age of 24. She's an expert at infiltrating places, using some serious tech and magic to get the job done. Things go sideways for her soon, and her team gets killed. Now she's on her own, suspected of turning on them and causing their demise. She wants to get to the bottom of it and clear her name, so she assembles her own team and moves ahead, though at every turn she confronts danger. She picks up some intriguing allies--or are they?--along the way.
Whom can Cora trust? What were they involved in that got her team killed? Will she be able to prove that she did not murder her colleagues?
I enjoyed the way the author threw the reader right to the action. Cora is a strong heroine, as she needs to be with all the crises she must confront as well as trying to piece together the bigger picture. She definitely has access to cool technology as well as magical powers that help her.
This is definitely a book that keeps you turning the pages, although at times it seemed there were more questions than answers. This sometimes happens in the first books of a series. The author is setting the stage for more to come.
I did receive a free review copy, but this did not affect my review.
Cora is part of a team working for the NSA which replaced the USA after The Awakening. Ordinary people like her father discovered that they had natural magical abilities during The Awakening! Cora has natural magical abilities too which her mentor, Richard, persuaded her to use for the NSA in an effort to discover who is tracing museum quality artifacts and assassinating the owners. The NSA also wants to know why! Dr. Rory Toller has given them the information which they wanted, and now the team can disband. They’re going to celebrate with a dinner at a steakhouse all together for once! Find out what happens next when you read Project Phoenix!
This is a top-notch paranormal spy thriller with creative concepts and a strong, but sometimes murky, plot. The author reveals an imaginative new world where the human species has “awakened” to their paranormal roots. Dragons are back and play a prominent part in world government and black ops teams are tracking conspiracies and plots. Plenty of intrigues, action, and battles to make this an exciting read. I definitely want to read the next book in the series. I started reading the book, couldn’t put it down, and finished it in one day.
Cora Blake does not look like Ethan Blake but she seems to be the same kind of headstrong gungho kind of person with similar luck. Some people are amazingly competent but that competence seems to inspire others to frame them for something nefarious. Fortunately, Cora also seems to attract friends and colleagues who are equally competent and for whom loyalty is their middle name.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Project Phoenix, the first book of the Dragon's Dream Saga series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). This book has it all: fast-pace, characters you really like, characters you like to hate, great world building, and twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Lucien is a manipulator, so I always wondered if he was a hero or a villain, which made for an interesting (and sometimes frustrating) read.
Ok this is cool. They remind me of shadow run. A role playing game. Which I actually like. I prefer magic to technology but I do like when it’s combined. If done right. In this so far it is. Def reading the next book!
This is one hair raising ride! Action like you can't believe and a cast of characters that leave you heartbroken and rooting for the good guys! If you can only figure out who they are! Love Cora and can't wait to read more! Fantastic read!
I’m so surprised ! I didn’t expect this to have so many twists and turns! I love the new way magic was brought in the world and can’t wait to read the next book!
This was a fantastic thriller mystery. Edge of the seat here. Action galore, badass heroine, great side characters.. And a nasty cliffhanger. Good thing the next book is out. Read this!
