Find your purpose and meaning in life with the Japanese philosophy of ikigai!
What is ikigai? It’s your reason to get up in the morning, and the thing that gives you enjoyment every single day. It’s a combination of what you love, what the world needs, what you do best, and—yes—what you can be paid for. That’s ikigai: your true purpose. With the help of this beautiful little book, you can find your ikigai . . . and discover the secret to a long, happy, mindful, and meaningful life.
Once in a while, I will pick up this type of book just to motivate and help me making sense of my life. It’s not like I don’t like my life, just that I kinda need that push sometimes, especially when you’re at your lowest point of your life.
So, IKIGAI as I understand is the concept of finding little joy in what you do. Even the littlest one can be considered as your IKIGAI. The reason that make you want to get out of your bed every morning. I find that interesting. We being doing it every single day actually (as a muslim). Reading them in other perspective is good. Make you think more.
In our everyday busy life, sometimes we tend to forget to stop and enjoy our life. We only live once right. I am always like that. I even went on autopilot if I have to. This got me think, like a lot. And after reading this, I went to bookstore and bought a bunch of non fiction book that deals with this kind of issue. And I also attend a coffee talk about How to love your job. During that talk, the speaker talk about Emotional Intelligence. I bought a book about that as well. Will read it and maybe I be wiser after that? I dont know. May be it just another reason to book buying habit that I have. Whatever it is, I learnt something while reading this book. Thank you.
I’ve always wanted to find out more about ikigai and I know that there is this particular book on ikigai with many good reviews. I hastily picked up this ikigai book (I thought it was the one) because of the announcement which said the library was closing soon. I’ve got to say, I finished the entire book in 30 minutes and thought it was a waste of time. I felt that the content was very vague and was constantly beating around the bush. I didn’t think that the book added any value to me, nor did I learn much about ikigai. The only thing I liked about this ‘book’ was the aesthetic and well taken pictures used.
Short read, but great reminder as : reason to jump out of bed every morning, finding fulfilment in both large and small things, and engrossed in an activity that we lose all sense of time.
In this book Justyn Barnes wrote about a most well-known japanese philosophy called Ikigai. Ikigai has no direct english translation, but, in simple terms, it is described as a 'reason for living'. This book has opened my eyes to the culture of Japanese people and how disciplined they can be.
Saya baru kali pertama dengar tentang kodawari. Buku ini ada sebutkan tentang itu. Nanti boleh cari maksudnya.
I decided to purchase this book after seeing a friend of mine talking about the term Ikigai. I remember googling and reading about Ikigai. How it has managed to ensure a happy and full filled life for many people in Okinawa,Japan. This Ikigai version is short and concise. It is written to give you an overall perspective of what is Ikigai and how you can use it in your life.
Finding your purpose or your Ikigai in this modern world can be challenging and easily forgotten. Often times we are too busy finding wealth that we forget to stop and enjoy simple things in life. From acceptance of one self to knowing when to let go, the book explains simple steps of how one can achieve Ikigai in their lives.
My key takeaway from this book is our Ikigai will change as we grow in life. Take the time to stop and reflect how far you have come and acknowledge how much you have grown or learned.
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present”
I think i become sadder after reading another Ikigai book 🥲 this is because i am in confusion era for my future. That’s bad i know, but this time i am serious. I think i have to buy Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia, the first book that introduced the Ikigai concept to me since i just borrowed it from friend.
This book is a collection explaining Ikigai more in simple way and is recommended to read if you’re new to this concept or just wanna browse through and review it. I am not obsessed with the concept but i am obsessed with being beneficial to others and this is the only concept that i can see can help me achieve a better life.
The best part of this book is the author had prepared “recommended reading” that contained books, journal articles, and online articles for readers to further more about Ikigai, and for sure that i will try to find, read, understand and apply the concept.
There is so much more to life and this is only one way how to get the best out of it.
Currently just finish this books. It is a good book. It tell us many message on how to discover ourselves, try to make a change, improve our life by taking a small steps, small changes and lead to drag out the better of ourselves. This book have light content yet full of message. We dont feel it is heavy as it also have an image on it. Also, they use the easiest word of delivery so that the reader can understand.
Little book that explains the basic principles of the concept of Ikigai. I really appreciate the quotes and pictures that go with it, but expected more in-depth elaborations about the concepts, the origin of Ikigai and just more.. Overall, a quick and relaxing read but more of a coffee-table book instead of a good read.
We came across Ikigai term alot recently. Ikigai or reason for living, is Japanese term which means a sense of well being that makes our life worth living. It’s a concept to find what we’re good at, what we love, what we can be paid for, and in the same time fulfill what the world needs. After read this book, and just like any other self-help books I’ve read, sadly it’s easier read than done
I found this book at a used book store. I mistook it for the other popular Ikigai book by Hector Garcia but this one was cool. It was a really fast read, only took me about an hour. It gave me a brief introduction to the concept of "Ikigai" which is a Japanese philosophy about how to find meaning in life.
I really enjoy this book, I have read it and keep referring back to it when I need a little perspective. While it doesn't really 'explain' Ikigai in a nutshell, I believe that the overall impression is positive and that Ikigai is made up of many aspects, not just one. It has inspired me to read further on the subject.
Cheesy little thing, but it really did resonate with me as I find myself in a time of transition and self-motivation. I found it to be the perfect companion piece after finishing Atomic Habits by James Clear. Mostly just philosophy and anecdotes, but there is a surprising amount of practical advice in the latter half of the book.
