Erin Dorati didn't ask for help from the Ventori, and just because they freed her from the human thugs who were holding her captive doesn't mean she's going to put up with being kept in custody by her supposed rescuers. She's certainly not going to just lie there and take it while three of them evaluate her suitability as a mate, but when she nearly perishes in the wastelands during a failed attempt at escape, it is one of the infuriatingly sexy aliens who saves her life.
Urrya, Oseth, and Azra intend to share a female, but when the battle-hardened warriors inform Erin that they have chosen her, she does her best to pretend to hate the idea. Their visits to her dreams tell another story, however, and they quickly set about mastering both her body and her mind, teaching her how pleasurable it can be to surrender herself completely to her mates.
Their bold dominance arouses Erin deeply, and despite her efforts to deny it, her need for them merely increases each time she is stripped bare for a painful, embarrassing correction of her behavior. Her bond with her mates grows stronger as she is claimed ever more thoroughly, sometimes by all three of them at once. But when the alien scourge who nearly wiped out the human race attacks Erin's new home, will she lose everyone she cares about a second time?
Publisher's Note:Mastered for Their Use is a stand-alone novel which is the fifth book in the Ventori Masters series. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.
Erin was lost after she took off on the Ventori skimmer to escape being taken in by a pod for their use and disciplines, she didn't want to become like her aunt who was abused and stayed with her abuser.
The pod rescued her once they found her had her moved off-world to Tavor. As she was healing from near death out on the desert, Azra was healing her with his energies at the same time trying to interject her visuals of her potential pod mates, himself included, to make her more familiar with them. Once she woke and the mates started courting her, found that she was their true mate.
But things got interrupted as their common enemy, Skarilians came back and decimated Tavor, Azra's home planet. Which has him working to save as many refugees he could and in return they still treated him like crap thusly making him so frustrated and angry, closing himself off more and more each day. Even though Erin feared losing herself more than their courting and mating process, however, she was more afraid of losing Azra and her pod mates. In the end, she discussed with Oseth and Uryah of her plan and they hope for the best. She submitted completely in order to save Azra as well as the pod and allowing them to all claim her at once. It worked and all are mated forever.
This author is really good at mixing things up! While each book is pretty smutty with minimal story, the various character personalities make each story very different.
While I prefer a softer more loving approach to the claiming process, everyone is looking for something slightly different. In Erin’s case, she was surprisingly masochistic and really got off on pain. More than the previous books, she was called a slave and treated a bit more like ‘property’ than a potential mate. I found it a little hard to believe how quickly Erin changed her mind about the entire mating process since she was basically willing to die to avoid it in the previous book.
In previous books, the 2 male persona compliment each other, while one is usually more serious and dominant, the other is usually lighter and more carefree. I did enjoy the change of pace with 3 males instead of 2, but in this case it was needed as the one male was harsher and more in need of dealing out pain than in previous books. The punishments were NEVER too harsh and NEVER harmed sweet Erin. She was able to work through her hesitancy and issues with the help of her caring mates who took the time to talk her through her concerns, especially with regards to her need for pain.
The evil Skarillians are back in this book and looking to destroy as much as possible. I have to wonder if we will ever find out their motives for such destruction but I suspect there are no valid reasons for their cruelty. We are also introduced to a lot more different alien ‘species’ in this book. Erin’s mates are from 3 different backgrounds and look a lot different than the previous stories featuring the Ventori.
There was 1 random chapter, right in the middle of this book, that was completely unrelated to the rest of the book. It was written from the viewpoint of a new species we had yet to meet, the Yashonty. I guess Ramnyth Dulvet (Ram) is leading the rebellion against the Ventori, so we get this random chapter to introduce new characters and see a bit of their history. This did not fit into this book’s storyline at all. While I know the author was trying to bring in more characters for future books, this chapter could have easily been at the beginning of Rams’ book. Also, I totally do not understand why the Yashonty is attacking Ventori. I think this chapter was supposed to clear that up, but I was only left more confused. I thought the rebellion was against the Ventori breeding program. That Yashonty, and some Ventori, felt the focus has shifted off the goal to defeat Skarillians. They think the Ventori should not be trying to find mates or settle on Earth, they should be 100% focused on killing Skarillians. That still does not explain the attacks on Ventori (don’t they need as many Ventori as possible to fight for the cause?). I didn’t understand this random chapter or the Yashonty reasoning. This was way too off Erin’s storyline and not a good way to introduce new characters.
A wonderfully erotic and passionate read…. This is a delightful for the pod of three Ventori Urrya, Oseth, and Azra were the pod that discovered her dying on the ground, she had lost the will to live and it was essential that they win the heart and love of the human Erin they had discovered, they knew that she was their mate and that she would be happy with them they would ensure that they loved her and that they would protect her. They agree that if they are unable to bring her back to the hearts and their love then they would set her free so that she could find a life of her own they would place her somewhere safe however this would only be a last-ditch action if they failed to convince her of their love. Erin is being treated by Azra and without the care and the treatment of the healing the thrall which was all that had saved her, his breath had been all that had saved her life the day she was found. As they healed any obvious hurts however when she failed to respond they had to look more deeply to understand why she had given up on life, she wanted to die and they had to help her find the will and desire to live again. They take her through a dream reality where she would be guided so that she understood why she needed the three men, why they were her mates and that they would care for her, they would dominate them and hopefully she would be able to appreciate that they wanted only to keep her safe, all her family and friends had been wiped out in the war and the horrors would be something that stayed with her forever.
Erin had been unconscious for over twelve days and so why they have been trying to heal her and then Urrya, Oseth, and Azra had been waiting to see if they could heal her and hopefully within the first thirty days that she would voluntarily accept the three men as her mates. She discovers that she currently is recuperating on Tavor which is Azra’s home world and that she had been transported by a portal. As the Ventori got more familiar with earth women they realise that they have to make some changes so that all parties could and would achieve mating and hopefully that they would be able to have much needed young for both human and the Ventori race to survive. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
This is a very different take on the series with an actual different planet and an attack from the evil Aliens too. I think the combination of three different Ventori cross breeds from three different planets is a great mix and the ability to create portals is great especially as it allows them to go to a different planet . I hope that this whole sub-story about the mates and the genetic manipulated females eventually starts to have some answers...it seems each book just adds more intrigue and questions. This pod kinda becomes predictable after they return to Earth. I wish there was a bit more of the background stories... its entertaining but after 5 books it is becoming less exciting... maybe they need to have a human pretending to be a boy but really a girl sneak into a camp or try to steal a spaceship in a parking lot... surely that would add some excitement back into the storyline . I am hopeful. This story was really good apart from the same ending as most of the 5 before it. One of these times a female will get pregnant...oh that could be fun a carnal companion on a contract becoming pregnant...that might be fun too. Maybe she leaves and finds out after her contract is expired... imagine the reaction when she shows up claiming it has to be theirs but they are in another carnal companion contract... I really hope something like this happens.
Mastered for Their Use by Ivy Barrett is very dark and dominant reverse harem paranormal romance. While previous books in this series were also dark and dominant, Azra was the darkest dominant yet. Erin made appearances in many of the previous books and she was a surprise in this one! Certainly not as weak and fragile as she would have you believe! I really enjoyed the plot of this one and the line the story took in bringing Erin to mates. It was equally fun, exciting, deliciously dark and filled with alpha warriors with fierce protective streaks. In addition to the HEA for these warriors and Erin, there is a plot twist that will make the continuation of this series even more interesting, enthralling and gripping.
My review of this book is simple this. This would have been hands down a 5+ star book if Azra never existed. I can’t think of a book that I have read where one character ruined an amazing story. Utterly beyond disappointing. Funny thing is I thought for sure after reading the previous book about her best friend I thought for sure I was going to hate Erin. Although the hole let me be a martyr and let this guy torture me so he can have a good fry was a bit pathetic. And that the other two let it happen not one but twice (his reaction to her “waking him up” earlier in the book) made me think less of them. Like I said one character just ruined the entire book.
This series just keeps getting better.. Erin’s world was rocked after an alien race decimated the planet earth, she had survived and after she was accidentally captured by a drug cartel, then saved by the Ventori, to then escape so she can go to family only to come close to death, and then saved by a pod of Ventori hybrids...it’s all happening. While her Ventori are naturally dominant Erin struggles to find her submissiveness and accepts their claim on her and with enough going on in the background the story flows really well and I found that I had to finish this in one sitting..loved it
Wow there is a lot going on in this story. I wasn’t certain I liked Azra in the beginning. He did grow on me as the story continued. I really liked Erin. She is a strong character who knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. She was also brave and loyal once she accepted her needs and the pod who could meet those needs best. An enjoyable read.
So far this is my favorite of the series although I like them all they keep getting better. The three Heroes in this story are not full blooded Ventori so they are all unique. The Heroine had many internal battles to fight before she could accept any type of bonding. We have another attack on a different planet .with now another species settling on Earth
Another good story..This one includes a 3 trio of mixed raced aliens. All hot in their own ways. Learning to submit is very hard thing to do, learning to let go being taught to be independent. But Erin does so and gets not just one, but three mates that will do all they can to please her.
I was blown away by every word in this story. Everything is unexpected for Erin until she finds herself in a very emotional situation filled with happiness and love. I can’t wait for more
In all honesty, I was on a smut kick and couldn't stop myself from exploring even the weird things out there. I have no comments. There is fairly decent world and character development but ultimately, this is set in dystopia.
Steamy and hot. There are a couple scenes that go no where. I guess it's to lead to other stories and books. I really enjoy Ivy Barretts books. They let me live vicariously through the stories.
Fun series in general, loving the aliens. Interesting read and can read the series in any order and it doesn't matter! Each book captivates you in one way or another
Probably my favourite of the series. Azra is definitely the most interesting of the alien species mentioned so far and I really enjoyed hearing more about his powers and feeding habits/needs. As with all <200 page books, everything feels fairly rushed and high level, but still fun for any human/alien fans.
