This was a good devotional. It took me a littler over 28 days because I missed a few. I think this is the first devotional I have done and the reason I wanted to do it was because I had hoped it would bring some new life to my morning quiet times. For the most part it did! I was not too impressed with it at first. It is very slow paced and the font and spacing is huge so there isn't very much to read each day. To me, this seems like it would be geared more toward someone who very recently gave themselves to Christ. There is a lot of lets just say lower-level Christian concepts in this devotional (that's not a bad thing or an insult or anything of the sort). The reason I point that out was because I was hoping for more meat for each day, but this book is mostly milk. So, again I would suggest this book for a brand new follower of Jesus. I would also recommend this book for teens or just young Christian based on their age - even if they have been following Jesus for a while. All that being said, this devotional did surprise me on multiple occasions. I would be doing my quiet time and the Holy Spirit would use this book to give me something very encouraging and topical for my life- and I liked that! Also even though I have been following Jesus for roughly 5 and a half years now, I did see the value of being reminded of and refreshed on some of the foundational concepts of Christianity. Maybe I'll read it again - to keep me grounded and refreshed.
I was given this as a present by a Christian friend and I was appreciative of been thought of. Often times when you are going through difficulties most people do bot notice or just ignore it, too scared to acknowledge it.
I am not Christian but nonetheless I wanted to give this book a chance and honour my friend's effort.
This is clearly made for young adults, it has an aesthetically pleasing cover, nice fonts and the entire book is filled with gorgeous pictures. I liked the idea of tackling issues which someone my age faces now in this day and age. The book is broken down into 28 bite size chapters and is supposed to be read over 28 days but I did not follow that.
I liked that the over tome of the book os to be positive and focus on things other than the bad. It was good to add how social media and today's society affect how we view our worth.
But I don't connect with what the book is talking about. That there is this unseen force that has predicted what is happening to me, loves me unconditionally, will provide, strength, forgive and build. The reason why is because that sounds to me like placing your faith in something other then yourself. It sounds like dependency. I feel like you should pull yourself up, you should have the motivation and strength to move on and ultimately accept yourself. Of course it is not easy.
Neither were there alot of lessons for non Christians to take away because this book seems to be aimed at young Christians unlike the author's other book on overcoming depression and discouragement.
But I did like that there are some underlying message such as let your happiness come from within and not necessarily material. As well as not letting your past mistakes weigh you down.
Another aspect I was confused about is that the author who is Singaporean, says his daughter has finished high school and is about to attend college. But that is how the Singaporean education system is defined. Also he uses words that are quite westernized like guacamole. I wished he would include more about Singaporean and be proud of it. Perhaps he did this to appesl to a more international audience.
Though the book is more of a summarised rehash of all of Pastor Prince’s revelations till date, the spiritual impact is undeniable.
The target audience is more for a younger crowd of readers and the purpose and presentation of the book is more for “coffee-table” use, but it still makes for a great fast refresher read, which we all need!
I received this book as a gift from a friend and I have to say that the texture of the pages and the cover is really great. As for the contents, I've read this over the span of few days, but I recommend to take it slowly one chapter a day as it says in the title and reflect on the contents. I would give it a 3.5.
I haven't read this book but other books of pastor Joseph prince I have read have blessed me tremendously, and I don't doubt this one would bless me the same.
This is an excellent tutorial to drawing closer to God and thus attracting family and friends to Him through living a life filled with His love and blessings.
