Warriors of the Lathar #5

Alien Commander's Mate

Rate this book
Alone. Ill. She’ll do anything to find her kids.

Both her children taken by the Lathar and her home destroyed in the process, Amanda Kallson is at her wits end and desperate. With nothing left to tie her to Earth, she’ll do anything to track down her daughters… even take an alien warriors crazy deal.

It doesn’t hurt that said alien warrior is tall, ripped and as handsome as hell. But Fenriis isn’t the only warrior who has eyes for Amanda and while her ferocious mate is busy fighting off an outside enemy, it’s one within who may steal their happily ever after before it even gets started.

Small. Exquisite. He’ll risk the wrath of the Emperor himself to make her his.

It was supposed to be a quick in and out mission. After an attack on Earth, a planet no non-native was supposed to set foot on, Fenriis is forced to go down to the surface to make sure no enemy forces remain. But when he hears a woman crying, begging for help… from her gods, sure, but in their absence, he offers his aid. She’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, and all she wants is to find her children. Since they’re on his planet, how can he refuse to help… especially when she agrees to be his mate in return?

But, in Latharian society, sometimes it’s not the enemy you can see you need to watch out for. Sometimes the worst attack comes from the last place you’d expect. Forced to fight off her people and his… can he find her before it’s too late?

Alien Commander’s Mate is book six in the Warriors of the Lathar series.

I recommend reading this series in order. This one features Amanda who’s daughters where taken by the Lathar. Having that background before this story helps.

Amanda is a strong heroine. She’s not well and her daughters where taken by aliens, but that doesn’t stop her from living, finding them, and attacking Fenriis when he shows himself.

Fenriis is War Commander. He was sent on a task by his Emperor. Once he hears her voice he knows that she is for him. Now he must convince her and one way to get her to come along is to make a bargain that will help her see her children again and give him more time with her.

I had a blast with this one. The Lathar are kind, thoughtful to their females, and brilliant, but there are a few bad apples. I enjoyed the plot and characters. We get great witty dialogue, some suspense, and romance.

Alien Commander’s Mate was another entertaining read.

This was a nice alien romance took a few hours to read, but not the kinda romance that you will remember in a week,, pretty much the same as the rest in this series.

I totally love any of the books in Mina Carters Warriors of the Lathar and Lathar Mercenaries series. These books are automatic one-clicks for me. The women in these series are strong. If they don't start out that way they certainly become that way. The men are hot. They love their women and are totally dedicated to them. The stories are well written and flow nicely. There are few if any typos. Sometimes the British colloquialisms throw me for a loop. The characters are all very different and there's no mistaking one for the other. They don't merge into one in my mind. Locations and scenes are described so that you can easily picture them in your mind. Each book has it's own HEA for the main couple but there's always a little something that let's you know that there will be another book to follow. I just wish that the stories were a little longer.

I really liked her and the fact she is a middle aged woman - not the cliche young, pretty alien bride. She is strong and brave.

He is such a cutie but also a respected war commander. I liked the way he cares for Amanda and was head over heels in love with her.

This was a great alien romance read and a good book in this series.
The plot is in his basics similar to the previous books but that‘s not bad. I enjoyed reading and the chapters kept me entertained.
Amanda and Fenriis have good tension and I liked them together. Fenriis is a hot alien war commander and Amanda a single mother who wants to be reunited with her daughters (both were taken by aliens as well). They made a deal and fall in love which was fun to read.
Overall this was an enjoyable and quick read.

The mom’s story, she was ostensibly the older of the couple. But these aliens age so slowly, he only looks younger than she does.

This book could have been a lot more but it was like a layover between the last one and the next - which was annoyingly set up extensively in this installment.

Previous characters also make cameos.

It’s a short book but “you lot” made an appearance five times. Yes, I counted. It makes a difference when it comes from different characters. They have the same voice, then.

One thing that bothered me a little about this one was how the villain was treated. Obviously he’s criminally insane but he truly believes what he believes. I guess these warrior aliens have no room for rehab of the crazy ones? So protective and all but they toss the mad dudes like trash. So that was nice.

Not my favorite. At this point I’m just working it for the AI’s story.

I absolutely love this series.

After an attack on her home Amanda come home to find not only is her house destroyed but her other daughter is also missing. When a Fenriss hears the woman pleading for hell to find her daughter's he offers his help well sort of. Amanda can't believe that this alien can take her to her daughter's all she has to do is be his mate. Dang she's to old for him and his sexy body but dang if she can't pass on what he's offering. When all heck breaks lose on the ship she's gonna need him. I love this series. I can't wait to see what's next.

Furious, Amanda Kallson looked around at the shell of her house the aliens had left her! The walls and roof were the only things left standing. Lizzie’s bed was untouched, but they had taken her. She knew they had come for Lizzie. Jess was gone too. Desperate, she cried and prayed for help finding her children.

Fenriis K’Vass had been sent down by the Emperor’s orders to make sure that the Kallson woman was alive and unharmed. When he heard Amanda and Roger’s voices, he hid from sight. When the clueless male left, he heard her pray for the return of her children, and he heard the harsh coughing that followed, deep and painful as she struggled to breathe. He made himself visible but, instead of it scaring her, she attacked him! When the Latharian warrior finally subdued her, he offered to get her back to her children in return for her becoming his mate.

In negotiation meetings with Earth, General Hopkins, who had been rude and disrespectful from the start, requested a tour of their warship for Terran Vice President Madison Cole and himself. But as they stood in the mess hall, the General had his armed men attack the Latherians. Two were already bleeding and unconscious on the floor. Furious, Madison gave him orders to stand down. But apparently the Terran President authorized Hopkins’ attack and Madison was arrested, to be questioned later. Fenriis gave an order to his men to safeguard the women and he fought with Hopkins. The lights went out and in the darkness, a warrior grabbed Amanda to drag her out of the fighting. She went willingly, knowing a Latharian warrior would keep her safe. But when she was shoved in a room and lights came on, it was the scary warrior with the dead eyes -- Fnaal -- who had stared at her and made her tremble in fear several times before. He yanked her close and hissed “MINE” as he roughly forced his kiss on her and prepared to rape her. Would the powerful male succeed? Could his victory override Fenriis’ claim? And what was happening back in the mess hall when the heavily armed Terran military fought with the Latherians?

Oh wow, this was such an excellent book! Very well written, and definitely exciting, it will hold the reader’s attention right from the start. Instead of the aliens people were told to expect, the Latharians were kind and thoughtful to the females. (I think I was ready to run off with Fenriis myself, very early in the story line!) The reader will enjoy the story and the romance. There is something for everyone, and lots of surprises. Grab a copy and see if it all falls apart . . . or not.

I don't know why, but when I saw that this was one of the Kallson family, I just assumed it was the sick sister. Surprise, surprise, it's their mother. I never did get much clarification on just how old Amanda Kallson was, but I'm going to guess probably at least 38-40, since she has two grown daughters, there was no mention of a teenage pregnancy, but that doesn't rule things out and it's established that she's younger than the hero's 42 years. Anyway, this starts out with Amanda realizing that the Lathar have now taken her other daughter and that she's all alone. She starts crying out that she'll do anything to have her kids back. Fenriis overhears this and takes his chance for a human mate, offering to take her to her kids if she'll become his mate. Amanda agrees.

Now this sounds like skeevy blackmail plot where the hero takes advantage of the heroine in her need in order to get what he wants. But it doesn't play out that way. It's clear from the get-go that Fenriis is head over heels for Amanda and wants to take care of her and make her happy. He doesn't pressure her into sex, but is very romantic with her, sort of seducing her into loving him so she'll come to him when she's ready. And that's what the rest of this story really revolves around for them as Amanda realizes that she adores Fenriis. There's the added stupid/evil human interaction part of the plot and an additional evil Lathar on Fenriis's own team that the pair have to deal with, but it's just to increase suspense and never really affects their sexual tension. So this turned out to feel like it was wildly out of place in this series of forceful, asshole heroes and enslaving aliens who don't care so much what women really want. This was definitely a refreshing change, showing me that the Lathar really can be good guys.

Amanda is a mum on a mission! Her daughters have been "taken" by the Lathar, she doesn't know if they are safe and well, being treated properly or even if they are still alive. She has been trying to date but her heart just isn't in it and her health...well she knows there is something wrong but the doctors keep fobbing her off.

Her house is wrecked and when hands seem to grab her from nowhere, she thinks she has finally gone down the rabbit hole. But Fenriis is there to help, or so he says. He offers to get her to her daughters, in return she just has to do one tiny thing, be his mate! Amanda is desperate but can she really mate a male she has just met?

Fenriis is War Commander for a reason but his tact is, well not exactly his first priority. But when the Emperor gives you a task you do it wholeheartedly. He was enraptures by her voice when he was cloaked but now that he is visible to her, he knows that she is the one for him. Now he just has to play nice with the humans, secure his mate and quell the sudden uptick in demands for mates from some of his crew!

Covetous, conniving humans yet again try to skew things to their advantage. But they did not see Amanda siding with her new "mate" coming. There is also dissention with Fenriis crew and he faces a deadly challenge for his position. The Lathar really are a brilliant race of people, although even they suffer from a few bad apples.

I loved the plot and the characters. Amanda is proof positive that life doesn't end once you have kids and she is perfectly capable of being everything that Fenriis needs. Daaynal is going to be so much fun when it gets to be is turn to find a mate! Great, witty dialogue and a fast pace make this a superbly enjoyable read.

A great older woman, younger man, sort of, alien romance

War Commander Fenriis K'Vass, has been changed by the Emperor, to broker an accord with the humans. He gets pulled into the Shadow's mission and charged with the rescue of Amanda Kallson. When he hears her voice, his plans change, he is going to claim her.
Amanda Kallson comes home to her house destroyed and her sick daughter and her care giver gone and know that like Jess, the Lathar have taken her twin Lizzy and Jac. In her despair, a young warrior makes her an offer. If she agrees to be his mate, he will get her to her daughters.
Amanda can't understand why the handsome warrior would choose her as a mate, she would do anything to be reunited with her girls.
Fenriis can't believe his fortune in finding Amanda. He will not rush their bonding. First he has very sick mate to the healer.
Fenriis has to compete his mission for the Emperor, before he can keep his promise to Amanda. Meeting with the humans Vice President, and the to military leaders who are part of her delegation turns into an act of war.
Then one of Fenriis's warriors kidnapped Amanda, and another challenge him for her and his command.
Then the Emperor arrives to negotiate with the new military commander. Happily welcomes Amanda to the family.
A sweet epilogue to wrap up their story.

Amanda is devastated when she returns home to find her daughter Lizzie missing along with Jac her nurse and her house wrecked. Fenriis is War Commander and has been sent by the Emperor to make sure that nothing would upset any negotiations with the humans. He was in Amanda's home to make sure she was still okay and heard the confrontation she had with her now ex boyfriend and plea to any deity listening to help her find her girls. So Fenriis offers her the opportunity to see girls again if she agrees to become his mate. Amanda agrees to the contract. Now all Fenriis has to do is convince Amanda that he is an honorable male and all will be well. But it seems he has some division in his ranks and the humans he is to negotiate with have their own agenda. It is not going to be an easy mating. A big thank you to Mina Carter for the wonderful review book. I have also bought a copy for my library. Highly recommend this series. Can't wait to see who Daaynal's mate will be. Love the Lathar books.

I really enjoyed this story!! The characters were fantastic and very well written! They pulled me in from beginning to end. It was great for Amanda to get her story and happy ending! Both her daughters are with the Lathar and then she is picked up by one as well. I loved how Fenriis courted Amanda. He wanted her but he did not push her too far too fast. He knew that everything was different for her and wanted to make it a good transition for her. There is plenty of action and intrigue in this story as we get to see a little bit of the negotiations between Earth and Lathar, which sets up more books (super excited about this). The sex is explicit but not too frequent. It fits the story and is blended well. I liked the action and the way that this moved not only this story forward but the series as well. You could read this as a stand-alone story but you will probably feel like you don't have the full picture. It's nothing to really do with Amanda and Fenriis as much as the overarcing storyline. I have read the previous books and really enjoyed this one because of the added enjoyment that I got.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Amanda’s life has been turned upside down. Her children have been taken, she has a jerk of a man try to propose, and aliens have blown apart her home. She is beyond broken. She had so little time and needed to find her babies. Fenriis was a war commander. He was not supposed to be there but he couldn’t resist making sure that she was alright. When he heard her crying and begging for help, what else could he do?

You have to love these Lathar Warriors, all muscle and heart. Fenrii for one is hot like all the others but he such a kindness that you just want to hold him forever. Amanda is a very lucky lady. I love that these aliens care nothing for age. I have to agree with them. I didn’t care about my boyfriend’s age, we are 13yrs different. But even though, Amanda sees herself as old she is nothing but beauty to him. He cherishes her and has such patience. You really need to read the entire series from the beginning to know everyone and where the human mates are and with.

The book was good but it had one of my biggest pet peeves. The timeline of the book didn't agree with the prior books in the series. The issue was at the end and it didn't interfere with the story but it really bothers me when an interconnected series with characters from prior books reappearing does not agree throughout the series.

A wonderfully entertaining read with a very enjoyable plot that I enjoyed right till the end.
I can believe earth females would be having abduction parties, who wouldn’t want a hunky Latharian male.
Loved the relationship between Amanda and Fenriis. So sweet and refreshing to have an older woman as the heroine
We also get typical idiot posturing human males who are miffed that a woman outranks them, thinking they know everything and then cause an incident that could wipe out humanity.
Luckily the Lathar are more sensible and controlled than the idiot human Generals deserved. Pity.
We also have a Latharian warrior who loses his marbles and fixates on Amanda.
Pity this was not longer as I felt we could have had a bit more fun with this story.
Cannot wiat for the next book.
This is my honest review of this book.

Alien commander's Mate Mina Carter's newest release in the Warriors of the Lathar Book Series was just a lot of fun for me to read. I've read the previous books in the series so it was easy to fall into this one.
I liked the fact that the couple wasn't "young" but seasoned. (smiles) Straight to the point no non-sense at what was wanted and what would be given.

Amanda was all in a justified rage and heartache that her children had been taken, she'd do anything to see them again.
the War commander was only checking on a previous assignment when he heard her speak and seal her own fate.

Of course, as the norm, not everyone is happy about the sexy aggressive warriors making their presence known and a bit of danger shakes up the ship. For good or bad? well you'll have to read to find out.

A good blend of story and characters. I really enjoyed it!

Amanda was devastated. Everyone in her life she loved was gone. Taken from her even her home. The Aliens had taken Jess and her poor sick Lizzie along with Jac who was taking care of Lizzie when she had left to go to the doctor's.
When she thinks all hope is lost a warrior steps out of the shadow of her wrecked home, the same race of Warriors that took her family give her hope but there was a price. Would she be willing to pay it?
Fenriis war commander, commanding the veral'vias only had to here Amanda's voice to fall for her. He knew he would do anything to have her. And so the story begins. Lots of action , danger, drama, spice, twists, intrigue, and bad guys. I love to hate on the bad guys lol. I couldn't put it down. Don't miss it. The whole series is awesome.
Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.

I know this is terrible, but I like that Fenriis was a bit more caveman. He is still a hopeless romantic, but the other boys so far have been from what equates to noble lines basically. Fenriis is a bit more rugged, a bit less privileged and has obviously worked his but off to be in his position (not saying the others haven't, just that their starting line was further up field).
Amanda was sweet, it's always nice to have the diversity of the age level (frustrating that a man the same age becomes 'distinguished' and allowed to be sexeh, but the ladies are often invisible so it's nice when the book breaks the mold). she's not as fiesty as some of the other ladies, but she brings her own brand of sass along.

I really enjoyed reading Alien Commander’s Mate. From the start when Fenriis makes an impromptu decision through the courting of Amanda, he was ever the commander in charge and yet able to care and put Amanda first. There are a lot of action portions that both of them take charge in.

As I jumped into this book I had to take a moment to realize just who Amanda was and why she was important. I had read the previous books and so it took me no time at all. If you haven’t read at least the previous book in the series, you would have a better understanding of the opening scene and Amanda if you did. However it is not necessary.

Loved the characters, stayed for the action! Fenriis and Amanda make a compelling couple. She is older than the average heroines and he is just the right combination of gaff, sweet, sexy and scary! The story is simple and straightforward until it twists and the creep makes his move. The attack scene is very well-written and you gotta love a girl who is her own hero. I loved the way the story grew, and the re-introduction of previous books characters. It made me realize that I missed a few and now my goal is to read them all again in order and not skip any in between! if you are following the series, this is a must read. If you read to of order like I do, don't miss this one!

Well, I remember why I stopped reading after the previous book. I'd forgotten and wanted to see where the story of the Lathar went. But this book very much focuses on the romance and the series plot only gets a very little attention. Even the romance didn't quite work for me. This was the first one to take place almost on Earth, but it may as well have been on Lathar still. I wish there had been more time on Earth dealing with Amanda working through moving on from her life. I would have liked some interaction between her wanna-be boyfriend at the beginning and Fenriis. I guess, overall I just wanted more from this story and I got a superficial skimming over of the deeper story.

An arrangement

He heard her voice before seeing her. He had gone there to check on her since her daughters were already or in their way to Lathan Prime. He made a deal with her , become his mate and he take her to her daughters. She agreed , the healer looked at her since earth ones were boobs. The healer was able to to heal her. Chaos, and being taken by one if his crew, nearly attached, she'd stabbed him and ran. A delegation from earth, gun fire from one man caused troubled and negotiations are on hold. The emperor shows up, her daughter, mate be and baby, and her mates cares for her.

Love at first...sound

It wasn't love at first sight but love at the first sound of her voice that caught Fenriis. Amanda would do anything to be with her daughters even agree to mate the War Commander. Will love follow? Read to find out. I loved this addition to the series. It may be the "sweetest" love story of them all. I adored Fenriis. We are also given hints of future "pairings" which I can't wait to read about.

Highly entertaining!
Amanda’s daughters have been taken by Latharian warriors, her home destroyed. When Fenriis offers to take her to them - for a price - she agrees.
Fenriis is honorable, doesn’t take advantage when he could, is super hot. He’s definitely hard for Amanda to resist! With her goal now achievable, Amanda’s inner strength shines through. She shows compassion and love. There are unexpected attacks, placing Amanda in heart-wrenching danger - so much happening here! It’s a very entertaining book to read!

Alien Commander's Mate

Another great book by Mina Carter. No.6 in the series and hopefully more to come. I can think of a couple of characters in this book that needs to find their mate. One thing I have wondered about is when will the Emperor find him a mate. He has to have one before the series is done. I'm so attached to these characters that I have my thoughts who should get who...I know it's ridiculous but I'm sure we all get involved with our books to this point. Should be more stars available. Definitely a series you will want to add to you library.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sci-fi romance. Fenriis meets Amanda and falls for her immediately. He wants to keep her safe and happy. Amanda is not sure what to make of this tough alien but feels like she can trust him to get her to her children.

It is well written and has some great characters. I love that the women are strong and stand up for themselves.

Fenriis and Amanda have great chemistry and I love how kind and considerate he is towards her. He is not afraid to show his feelings. They really have a bond.

A Must Read!

Terran Amanda and Lathar Commander Fenriis are the stars of this book. Amanda wants to be reunited with her missing daughters and Fenriis wants her to be his mate. Then Fenriis makes her an offer she doesn't want to refuse, especially if she wants to see her children again. Mina Carter has written a story full of wonderful characters, an exciting storyline, sexy encounters and plenty of action and drama. I highly recommend this book and the other Warriors of Lathar books. Happy Reading!

Loved the whole series, hate to see it end. Want to know what happens next, what about Lexie? When will the emperor get his mate? Will they make an agreement with the humans? You can't stop now! Too many unanswered questions. I will definitely read more of Ms Carter's books.

I would recommend her books to anyone. A good mix of story and excitement and romance. Her characters are believable and easily relatable.
