About the author

Former librarian and an avid reader, Veena Gavankar wrote Ek Hota Carver, her debut novel and biography of American agriculturist George Washington Carver in the year 1979.

She soon followed up with numerous other books, including Dr.Khankohje, Rozelind Franklin and Lise Mitner. Other books include Bhagirathe Varas, Dr.Ida Skadder and Sarptadnya Dr. Remond Ditmars.

DNA ची रचना व त्याची माहिती मिळवणारे नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेते डॉ. वॉटसन आणि क्रूक आपल्याला माहीत आहेत पण त्या रचने चा खरा शोध कोणी वेगळ्याच व्यक्तीने लावला हे आपल्याला माहीत नाही.
रोझलिंड फ्रॅंकलिन ही रसायनशास्त्रातील विद्वान शास्त्रज्ञ. हिने स्वतःचे संपूर्ण आयुष्य विज्ञानासाठी घालविले. हिनेच फोटो क्र. ५१ मधून DNA ची रचना शोधली व नंतर त्यावर खूप अभ्यास करून लेख लिहले. पण ह्याचे सर्व श्रेय 3 वेगळ्याच पुरुषांनी घेतले व त्यासाठी नोबेल पण मिळवला.
वीणा गवाणकरांनी लिहिलेले १४३ पानी साधे सोप्पे सुटसुटीत असे चरित्र. तरीपण ह्यात रोझलिंड च्या सर्व आयुष्याचा व महत्वाचं म्हणजे त्यांच्या निस्वार्थी कामाचा इत्यंभूत आढावा घेतलेला आहे. तसेच तिच्या अभ्यासाचा स्वतःच्या प्रसिद्धीसाठी फायदा करून नंतर तिच्याच चारित्र्य व बुद्धिमत्तेवर कसे शिंतोडे काही अहंकारी पुरुषांनी कसे उडविले हे पण आपल्याला वाचण्यास मिळते.

I had read this long time back. It's so strange to know that the person, Rosalind Franklin, responsible for the monumental discovery with respect to the structure of DNA was not given due credit and left unknown to the world for a long time. At the same time it is inspiring to read her determination to find the truth about the genetic material of life irrespective of the desire for rewards. Highly recommended!
