Blair Wilkes faces her toughest challenge yet: meeting her boyfriend Nathan's family. That means being on her best 'normal' behaviour -- no weirdness, no magic, and definitely no unexpected appearances from her unpredictable cat, Sky.
Blair's life is never that simple.
A student's mysterious death by drowning casts a shadow over the town's annual summer broom flight contest. Now she's having to defend a group of elves from a murder accusation, fend off werewolves, and pass her next witch exam.
With people dropping off their brooms like flies, it's not a great time for Blair to try mastering flight. But without it, she'll fail her test and be doomed to spend her life being laughed at by witches half her age.
Can Blair keep it together, learn to fly, and catch a killer while she's at it? Or has her luck run out?
Elle Adams lives in the middle of England, where she spends most of her time reading an ever-growing mountain of books, planning her next adventure, or writing. Elle's books are humorous mysteries with a paranormal twist and tons of magical mayhem.
She also writes urban and contemporary fantasy novels as Emma L. Adams.
I see this as a cozy mystery series with some funny friends and co workers that make the series enjoyable. There is a boyfriend but there is just no chemistry and their interactions are more like acquaintances than two people attracted to one another. So, it’s a tad disappointing because I love a good romance but it doesn’t detract from the series.
Riding a broomstick should be easy for a witch - shouldn't it?
A good read although I wouldn't call it great or humorous. It just seemed a bit flat. Although we are learning more about her and her family. The lake should have been a peaceful place but the fact that a water witch has drowned makes it less so. How could he not be able to use his magic? Then the elves pressurise her to find the real culprit as one of their own is under suspicion of murder. He has been drinking heavily since his girlfriend had dumped him due to a vision she saw in her crystal ball. Then there's the fact that Nathan's family has come to town and seem to have issues with her. Plus another werewolf has applied and gotten a job at the agency making the pack leader furious. Can she put all the clues together as another death occurs at the lake whilst at the same time trying to learn to ride a broom (her exam is coming up), keep up with her job and still make time for her friends?
Nathan's family comes to visit and Blair's attempts to "be normal" backfire when she vanishes the table trying to clear up the pixies glitter and then is visited by the elves who unglamour her.
Mr Harker wants to stop her seeing Nathan as does Jay, Nathan's eldest brother, but at least his sister Erin seems to be on their side.
With broomstick flying lessons going badly, taking on another werewolf at the office against the packs wishes, a relationship to fix between an elf and a witch and two murders to solve Blair has her hands full and no time to stop.
Can she please everyone? Probably not but she'll give it her best even when it seems like there's no way forward.
Blair always seems to be in the right place at the wrong time, so when she finds the dead body of a student from the academy, she of course decides to investigate. Then there is the fact that Nathan’s family is in town, and the hunters aren’t exactly know for their love of paranormal creatures…
Blair learns a little more about both her family, and Nathan’s in this enjoyable cosy paranormal mystery book. It’s an enjoyable series, though not standalone as each book continues the story from the previous book. They’re fun reads though, particularly for those who enjoy paranormal cosy mystery tales.
A great supernatural cozy mystery series. A young woman who grew up in the human world thinking she was human wakes up one day and has a job interview in a town she’s never been to. Once she arrives she begins to realize there is something different about it. She soon finds out she is half which half fairy. Follow along as her and her new friends StumbleUpon murders mysteries and then she figures out the culprit. A very entertaining cast of characters with a great storyline. Definitely entertaining and worth Reading. Check it out
Blair's father is still in prison and she still wants to somehow talk to him. Things keep getting in the way, though. A student dies at a falls and the quite incompetent gargoyle chief of police as usual makes wrong assumptions and is nasty to Blair. There's another death, this time one of the High Flyers. Then there's trouble with a siren, a drunk elf and the elf King.
That's a good bit for a young woman to handle but then, again, she's got Sky to help her (Sky being one of my favorite characters.) As usual well done characters and mysteries.
I was a bit irritated with parts of this book because Blair was trying to hide who she was in order to be liked by Nathan and his family. A paragraph about a possible marriage between Nathan and Blair was odd, considering the weirdness and lack of communication in their day to day lives. That's not a good example to set for anyone. Also, the distrust Steve, the Hunters, some of the elves, and some of the witches have for Blair seems excessive. Blair solving the town's murder cases solely is unrealistic. 2.75 stars
Good read. Enjoy Blair's adventures. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys this type of mystery. would like more information on the power of the crystal ball in a future episode. I look forward to the next adventure with this character.
Good story. Look forward to the episode with Blaire and friends. What will happen with Nathan? Will she be able to actually communicate with Sky?
Blair 's background is fascinating, and it's good that the reader gets a bit more information from book to book. I love her work ethic, her magical mishaps, and the community she's building for herself. I'm especially enjoying the very inventive inclusion of an enigmatic fairy cat/familiar. The solution to the mystery is a surprise, and I look forward to what this author has in store.
I love this series! Elle Adams has created a wonderful universe full of interest and diverse characters. She is a thorough and thoughtful storyteller who doesn’t leave loose ends, so her readers aren’t left with a bunch of “What about…?” questions at the end of her books. I would definitely recommend her books to anyone who enjoys paranormal mysteries or anyone who appreciates good storytelling!
Death couldnt come at the worst time. Nathan's family is in town and Blair is pulled into the middle of it by the elves. In exchange for her help, they will give her more info on her family.
And meeting Nathan's family goes about as well as youd expect. Disasterous. What will that mean for their relationship? And why is Sky being so needy?
Blair ends up on another wild investigation. A super fun read!
Blair is maturing in her fairy witch abilities and her relationship. I am always excited to learn more about her family and this book gives some more hints but leaves me wanting to know more sooner! If you want a fun light read you will enjoy Blair's latest adventure!
Poor Blair just can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Between meeting Nathan‘s family and trying to solve a murder, life just keeps getting harder and harder. Another fun filled mystery written byElle Adams that is fun to read and I am looking forward to the next in the series.
Finished this one today, Blair just runs out of luck in this one, but in the end her luck gets somewhat better. But the trials and tribulations she has to go to to get out of the mess she is in. Well just say its alot. Meeting her boyfriends family is not enough but then having to get the elves out of a jam and learn how to fly on a broom to and take her exams. Oh boy.
Blair needs to learn to fly on a broomstick to pass her next exams, but it isn't working, and children are watching and laughing. Meanwhile a couple of academy students drown in the lake, and the elves are blamed, and the elf king wants her to prove elves didn't do it. What a week!
Blair has such a good heart. She wants to help so that she can, with no regard to her safety or personal life. So many unanswered questions. Looking forward to finding out what happens in Blair's life.
I enjoyed Blair's encounter with her boyfriend's parents. I also liked the descriptions of the High Flyers Arial aerobatics. Blair's broomstick flying lessons were fun to read.
And yet surprisingly substantial for a paranormal romance-mystery-whatever. The series is fun! I enjoy the characters and the best part is they change; the characters learn and don’t stay static.
Even the fairy cat is coming out strong. Grief has stunned our favorite fairy witch, but she keeps on going. Friends and a new family are forming as this tenacious new being takes on her own self worth while protecting and fighting for her new community!
