Brilliant Scottish crime

Thoroughly captivating, set in the Outer Hebrides and capturing the strong relationship between the island inhabitants and the local police force. Though small in number and lacking in the big city forensic equipment, the police team with the local doctor to find the clues to some unusual deaths. The local minister known to all as the Padre is the uncle of the police inspector and is an excellent grounding character. The stories are quite gritty and the weather descriptions only add to the overall atmosphere. I was so enthralled by these stories that I read the first 3 back to back over a weekend and can't wait to read the next in the series. Highly recommended!

Uist adventures

Throughly enjoyed this trilogy, first read of any of Keith Moray’s books. Set on the island of West Uist the local Police Team of Torquil McLennan, Morag & Ewan manage to deal with all of the local petty crime and jealousies whilst having to manage major murder cases driven by outsiders. In each case the three some assisted ably by the twins and Torquils uncle manage to unravel the mysteries and capture the outsiders/instigators of the murders. Three separate stories with our trio as the unlikely hero’s. Well written, plots within plots and paced like I assume life is on West Uist, hectic followed by moments of peace. Throughly enjoyable and well worth a read. Only doubt is if that much crime could happen in such a small location

Torquing McKinnon series

After reading the first 3 books I found the characters interesting and the dynamics between them worked well. The author definitely knows his area, and the descriptions of the different locations are well written, and make me want to visit. One problem with writing about areas of a limited population is wondering who is going to be spared, but the books are enjoyable, and will be purchasing the next in series

Mayhem in the western Isles.

If you like plenty of gore, intrigue, deaths and wounding this is for you. It’s tautly written with everything that could be thrown into the plot. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Clearly, the depopulation of the Western Isles can be explained. One side issue is that I can’t see quite what religion the padre follows. He’s not a wee free nor as far as I can tell a catholic but his life style does not seem to fit the
Kirk.

Excellent

Just read the trilogy by Keith Moray set on West Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The small police force only comprises a team of three with Inspector Torquil McKinnon, Sergeant Morag and PC Ewan, they also have two special constables, the Drummond brothers. The trilogy was an excellent read and made me want to go there as it sounded absolutely delightful with the mountains, beaches and the small villages.

Torquil McKinnon

Great reading within these covers. However I did find the repetitive biographies of various characters annoying as I just wanted to get on with the story. Enjoyed the stories and indeed each book could have been almost stand alone books. Thank you for your literary skills. I did receive some education along the way too.

Ive now read the first two book. While I enjoyed them, they are more about the people, characters than the plot. How many people can die on this little Island in the Heberdise? Before the island is completely depleted. I’m well into, the third book and enjoying it also. Not for everyone.

Very good read. The three books together gave a cohesiveness.

Easy read but not so much to my taste - perhaps unfair to the author -
