This book was a great, short, introduction to turning. He writes the same way that he speaks, and I read the entire thing in his voice.
By the time that I finished the read, I felt much more comfortable getting in front of the lathe. Prior to reading the book, I knocked myself in the head with a flying spindle. Now I know better and feel that I have a better chance of keeping all my bits attached and as uninjured as possible.
A good and cheap review of the basics of woodturning
Rex’s channel has a lot of information regarding woodworking in general so I wasn’t aware of how much the author knew about woodturning. This book changed that perception. It’s well-written and functions as a guide to getting yourself started in the area: I can say that for sure because I’m building my own lathe and searching for cheap tools to get started myself.
This book provides a lot of useful information in how to get started turning without a huge outlay of cash. Instead of pushing a lot of expensive, fancy, top-of-the-line gear, Rex follows a more practical, no nonsense, and low-cost approach.
This book gives you exactly the same standard of advice that you'll get from Rex on his YouTube channel... Sensible, accessible, affordable, no nonsense guidance. No fake mystique and no intimidation into spending money on unnecessary gear. This book has saved me a ton of cash and time.
