Featuring all new, never before published material, Crows, Papua New Guinea, and Boats is the latest release by David Thorne, author of The Internet is a Playground and 27bslash6.com
David Thorne is an Australian humourist, satirist, Internet personality and New York Times best-selling author. His work has been featured on the BBC, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Thorne gained public recognition in late 2008 for an email exchange in which he attempts to pay an overdue bill with a drawing of a seven-legged spider. The exchange spread virally via email and social networking sites, leading to a surge of visitors to his website 27b/6 (27bslash6). 27b/6 features a collection of humorous emails and articles from Thorne's life. These and additional essays appear in Thorne's book, The Internet is a Playground. Published by Penguin Group and released on 28 April 2011, the book debuted at number four on The New York Times Best Seller list.
David Thorne se tornou um dos meus autores favoritos. Sua forma cínica e mordaz de reinterpretar a realidade garante várias risadas, e sempre tem alguma coisa em seus livros, que por mais zombeteiros que sejam, emociona.
I see Thorne, I buy. This one was somewhat slower than his others. It's still probably a 3.5/5, but apparently half point adjustments are prohibited on goodreads. Some laugh out loud moments, but I wish he'd make up more email threads. They're the bees knees, I tell ya.
I have read all of David’s books and after laughing out loud for a long period of time it is hard to believe the book is over already. Cannot wait for the next one.
Some of this had already been published on his website so I'd read those bits before, and the new stuff wasn't his best, but there was still a decent amount of new, funny content. If you liked the previous ones then you'll probably also like this one.
A very funny book that made me laugh out loud several times. Which is no small feat because I'm highly dubious of books that try to be funny. I'd have rated this book higher, but Goodreads stupidly does not allow for half stars in its ratings, and the author sound like a bit of a dick.
David Thorne may just be the king of send ups. He doesn't pull his punches with people unfortunate enough to stumble his way and do something ignorant, selfish, or rude. His short essays and email correspondence will give you life if you enjoy the driest humor and the sharpest sarcasm.
This book was removed from the marketplace altogether and scrubbed from 27B/6. I'd estimate that roughly 50% of the material in here was reused for the subsequent book, Burning Bridges to Light the Way.
My best guesses as to why this book has disappeared: 1) a fake Ricky Gervais quote on the cover that the real Ricky Gervais didn't find amusing, or 2) a chapter on Papua New Guinea that may have been offensive to Muslims
