This was a quick, fun read, but again, I have to stress how much I was not prepared for the helicopter crash. Really, REALLY urge people to read the summary, lol.
On a separate note, I really loved how unapologetic the heroine was about her career and its importance in her life and also the depiction of her family dynamics and that she got to stand up for herself. Really, really appreciated that.

Sometimes it takes a bad breakup and a forced vacation to make you discover what you REALLY want out of life. The love between Anita and Steve was very sweet. Watching it grow and seeing the things they were willing to do to capture the other's heart made me wish all relationships were this powerful and filled with the trust and excitement as their time together was.
I feel like amazing isnt enough for this book. Ms. Bev only has a short amount of time to convince that the romance between Workaholic Anita and Carefree Steve will work and how they bring love to each others lives and sense of healing I really wanted to find Ferg's story. My favorite part is when Anita stands up to her mom and tells her and her plans to go to hell.
Short and sweet! Attorney Anita Hunt works too hard and too long. So when her boss sends her on a forced vacation to Hawaii, she never, ever, expected to meet the man of her dreams during a helicopter crash. Pilot Steve Blair is the perfect man for Anita. However, Gregg, her sleazy, cheating fiancee may have a little something to say about that.
Anita and Steve’s story was so sweet. They were fighting their attraction to one another at first. But once it was on and popping, they couldn’t get enough of one another. Nice ending.
What can U say? Anita was destine for a life of work more work and boredom. After a forced vacation to Hawaii and broken engagement she blossomed and found true romance. Beverly Jenkins never fails to give you magic
Popsugar Reading Challenge 2023 - a book about a vacation
I probably would have rated this higher had the love interest not annoyed the shit out of me in the first 12% of the book, but since he did, I can't. Man straight up let her slip on an oil slick because she said she didn't need help carrying her bag. That's a bitch move that I can't condone, even in enemies-to-lovers, because it's too fucking childish. And you're supposed to be a professional pilot. No. Go to hell.
Happy Anita stood up for herself at the end with her mother there though. The mom was also a childish bitch.
This book was such a joy and delight to read. It was fun, intriguing, sexy, scary, humorous, and overall exciting!
Anita Hunt is a lawyer, who lives her life by a rigid and tight schedule. She is extremely dedicated to her job (24/7). She has no intention of having a social life. She is engaged to Greg, who is a lawyer for the justice dept. They have a monotone relationship. Anita is forced by her boss, Jane Sheridan, to take a all-paid vacation to Hawaii.
When Anita gets to Hawaii, she meets Steve Blair. He is casual, relax and so carefree. He is her pilot. While she is in Hawaii, she receives a text from Greg that he breaking off their engagement because he wants to marry a co-worker...she is disgusted and sad.
On the same day, she on a tour with Steve...however during a horrific heavy rain storm, their plane crashed into the mountains, on top of a tree. Steve is hurt and they both had to jump out of the plane before it exploded into a huge fire. They walked several dozens miles to Steve's Marine buddy, Ferg's cabin.
While in the cabin, Anita began to relax and fell in love with Steve. They made passionate love, nonstop. The next day both of her parents flew in from LA to see her and took her home, while Greg came to beg her to marry him, along with his parents...she told him, "go to Hell".
When she returned to work, her boss, Jane, told her that she was dissolving the firm, to go take care of her sick Mom and she is getting her a new job as a partner in a firm in Hawaii. Anita was so excited. She was also shocked when Steve came to see her and proposed.
This is the first Beverly Jenkins book I read....love it and I plan to read more of her books in the near future. Highly recommended😍
Anita is a hard working lawyer in LA with a fiance, who's climbing the ladder in New York. Her mom is not her biggest supporter and her dad is pushing her to work. Her boss tells her that she is considering her for partner, but first wants her to take a vacation- to make sure she won't work herself to the ground when she gets to partner. So Anita goes to Hawaii. Relunctantly. She treats it as something to be checked off a to do list and has no plans to actually enjoy it. Then sh meets Steve, the pilot that flies her from the mainland to Hawaii. Then she gets stuck with him.
This is a novella, super short so I won't say more than that.
Guys, I wanted to be mad that so much happened, that it was whirlwind romance that made no sense. I am not a fan of insta-love. Especially in adult romances, I need the build up. I want to see them get to know each other, to see the bonds form. Well this is a whirlwind romance. It's not a love triangle. It was so much fun, and reinforced my desire to visit Hawaii- not for romance but because it's a beautiful place. Even though this is just a novella, a lot happens. The romance blossoms and grows into something beautiful. It had its share of sizzling hot moments and funny moments. I am so glad that Anita stood up for herself to her mother. I am glad that Anita was a strong character and knew her own mind so she didn't go back to her ex-fiance. I am also glad that Steve wasn't there to add drama or to seemingly sway her decision. I needed a pick me up from my last read and Ms. Bev delivered!
Hawaii is an island of beauty, peace and where dreams come true. I understand exactly how Steve feels about it, because it's always been my dream place and that magic came true on my honeymoon there. Anita really needed that vacation her boss forced on her. Once she let her guard down and allowed herself to enjoy Steve's company, and to truly see the amazing places he showed her, their attraction took care of the rest. The plan crash was unfortunate, but it gave them that time to really enjoy that sexual attraction and their growing feelings for each other. Loved these two together. Anita's ex, Greg and her mother are both terrible people. Loved Anita's dad and "uncle Hector". The ending, very nice, and romantic. Hope to see Ferg's story. Ms. Beverly Jenkins is an author you must read and follow. 😊👍
Even with a short, Ms. Beverly Jenkins leads you wanting more and with little nuggets of appreciation. I definitely want to go to Hawaii. It was a perfect backdrop to Steve and Anita's story.
What started out as just a trip to get everything together and recoup turned into something different. Fierce, dedicated, force to be wrecked with Anita meets Steve at a time in her life when are on the outside going well but then bad news happen.
Read this story and go on the journey with a couple that on the outside looked wrong but on the inside was just write.
Another 3.5-4 range but rounding up. Premise is sooo good. What happens in the book goes down a little differently than what I expected but that’s on me. I was expecting a Blue Lagoon, rely-on-each-other-to-survive-post-helicopter-crash kind of situation. Build a lean-to, sleep on an isolated beach and hunt/gather food… But they end up crashing the hero’s best friend’s luxury mountaintop home lol. Good for them though. The helicopter crash scene is intense, and I loved it! The MCs working together to get out and down to the ground (they land in a tree) and learning to trust each other under stress was my favorite part.
Short and sweet! Attorney Anita Hunt works too hard and too long. When her boss sends her on a forced vacation to Hawaii, she never, ever, expected to meet the man of her dreams but the helicopter crash that happened showed her otherwise. Pilot Steve Blair is the perfect man for Anita. He is the perfect balance she needs in her life. Especially after being dumped by her cowardly fiancé Gregg. Loved how Anita handled her meddling Mom when she tried to force her to reconcile with the sleazebag Greg. My only complaint is the book was not long enough!!
A another novella from our the master, Beverly Jenkins! It reads fast, maybe a little too fast but it long on sexy. The two main characters are Anita Hunt is a lawyer looking to make partner in L.A. and Steve Blair and veteran who now flys a charter plane and helicopter based in Hawaii but his family’s generational wealth stems from oil. Their meet cute and the romance that follows will leave you with a smile.
This story is an example of how opposites attract. Anita just wants to work her way to a partnership, while Steve Blair wants to explore. Against her will, Anita’s boss insists that she take time off to vacation in Hawaii. Feeling reluctant and defiant; Anita doesn’t realize just how beneficial this vacation will be. Another awe-inspiring romance by Ms. Beverly Jenkins.
Anita and Steve don't hit it off when they first meet. The second meeting is a bit better. Then the helicopter he is flying her around in crashes. They survive and sparks immediately begin to fly. They start to see each other differently. I really enjoyed this story. The ending was a bit too neat and tidy for me but it still made me smile.
I chose to read this book based on the description. I made the right choice! I absolutely loved the storyline. I enjoy falling in love with characters, and I fell in love with Steve Blair! From when I “saw” him when Anita boarded the jet until he showed up at the planned dinner! Five stars aren’t enough! I loved this read! I highly recommend it.
I always love reading a Beverly Jenkins book. The main character Anita learns that work isn't everything after being dumped by text. She ends up on a vacation that changes her life and brings love her way. A beautiful happy ever after ending set in beautiful Hawaii and L A.
I loved just about everything after the helicopter crash. Anita and Steve's rapport was enjoyable (loved Steve's quips, especially). LOVED Anita's dad. And I don't care of the ending was improbable or farfetched or whatever you wanna call it, I loved everything about it, especially how Anita declared what she did about Greg. Awesomeness.
Mrs. Bev can truly write a story! That's all I have to say! The emotions I experienced while reading those 130 pages—holding my breath, crying, feeling anger, swooning, smiling, and cheering—are a testament to the talent of a gifted author! I love Ms. Bev's historical romances, but I really wish she wrote more steamy contemporary romances, because this novella had me sat and captivated!
DNF Unlikeable MMC. He's rich selfish and extremely immature. He allows the FMC to slip on an oilslick simply because she declines his offer to help with her luggage. He's bitter about his ex who dumped him, while on deployment, when he joined the war BY CHOICE over her objection. I have yet to read a contemporary novel from Beverly Jenkins that I like.
Love Ms Jenkins. This is a quick read. Romance with not a lot of backstory. JMO, Too many wated pages about sexual encounters, could have been used to enhance the story. Love the main characters. Hope she expounds on their story, and the supporting characters
Wonderful short story I read it in one sitting. Great characters I rooted for and a great location. Now I want to hop a plane and discover the island for myself. I'll be reading more from Ms. Jenkins.
I loved this book. Short and sweet. I smiled from the time they got in the helicopter to the very end of the book. What a nice time I had while reading a romance and I can’t wipe the smile off my face. I loved that it was short and I hated to come to the end. An end that I loved btw.
This was truly an Hawaiian magic journey. I enjoyed reading how Anita and Steve connected with each other.. Beverly Jenkins is one of my favorite authors, have read most of her books.
3.5/5 stars. This was very enjoyable, but very short. I would have loved to spend more time with these characters and to see their relationship develop over more pages, if not more time.
What a fun read, different from my previous books read and written by Beverly Jenkins. She writes all well as much as I have read. Truly gifted story telling. I am entertained with each book, short or long.
