Alyne Hart is a contemporary romance author living in the mountains of Eastern Washington. She's known for writing stories that pack an emotional punch and get you right in the feels.
She loves writing very real and deeply flawed characters and writing about honest, gritty, and raw romance. She's a romance junkie and happy endings addict, and if you’re a lover of deeply emotional reads with lots of delicious angst, her books are for you. Alyne's stories involve characters with bigger problems than just finding love. She writes stories about making peace with the past, rekindling old flames, and healing old wounds. She loves small towns, men in uniform, and alpha males with a heart of gold.
She began her story-telling journey first with her dolls, then it progressed to paper. She has a deep love for anything romantic, and she's a believer that in love anything is possible.
When Alyne isn’t writing, you can find her reading, hanging out with her cat, and spending time with her two children. She enjoys trips to the lake just as much as trips to the wine cellar, live music, chick flick movie marathons, and hanging out with her eclectic group of friends.
I've read a lot of menage books over the years, so I jumped at the chance to listen to one from a new-to-me author. It's one of my favorite genres, so maybe my expectations were just too high. I found the story just okay. It was pretty good in parts, but there was just something about the relationship that didn't seem realistic and lacked that connection I needed.
Amie is a recently divorced young woman who isn't quite sure where she belongs and what she wants to do with her life. She's basically wondering around lost, so she decides to take the advice of her best friend, only instead of going to an island for some hot loving, she instead volunteers to help rebuild a village on Kauai. She didn't expect to fall in love with not one, but two guys while there.
Gabe and Michael have been best friends since they were kids in a foster home. They had it rough growing up, but somehow managed to find themselves in the same foster homes and stuck together into adulthood. They have been traveling the world doing volunteer mission work and are now in Kauai as well to rebuild a village. One thing they've never done together though is share a woman, but that will change in this book.
Gabe is the calm one of the two men. He was the older one who took care of Michael in foster care. He was an incredibly sweet and loving man and didn't just go through women like Michael. Michael is the flirty and wild one, but he changed his pace after an epiphany. Both Gabe and Michael are attracted to Amie and she likes both of them as well. They hang out a lot and end up being roommates on the island, so with that much time together and sexual tension, eventually things will grow into a relationship with them all.
I found the 'I Love You's' were exchanged pretty early on in the book. I get that they were in close quarters and together each night, but it still seemed premature when they were just getting to know one another. Unlike most menage romances I've read, this trio didn't do things the way I expected. They preferred to spend one-on-one time with Amie versus time together as a trio. Sure, there are a couple threesomes thrown in there. Side note: Who in the world would believe that doing that on a sandy beach is at all realistic when sand gets EVERYWHERE and they didn't have proper supplies to really do what they did? Yeah, wasn't buying that was a pleasurable as the author made it seem at all. I'm not saying having that one-on-one time wasn't necessary, as it absolutely is to keep the relationship strong. But it seemed as though it may have been the eventual cause of all that happened in the end of this book. Jealously comes into play and bonds aren't as strong when everyone is treated as a separate entity. It worked initially, but eventually it just starts to become obvious that things aren't working as they had planned. But that's just my two cents and seemed outside the norm. It seemed more of what I'd expect from a polygamous relationship, not polyamorous. I think this disconnect between them is also why I had a hard time believing they would have a successful relationship. Based on the fact that there's a Book 2 and this one ends in a cliffy, I think it's safe to say things weren't working.
I just wanted to throttle Michael in the end of this one. He made me cry for Amie and that wasn't cool. I know in Book 2 there will be a HEA, but that doesn't mean I have to like who he was a the end of this book.
I loved that this book mostly took part in Kauai. I love Hawaii and am traveling to Kauai in a couple months, so it was awesome to read about the people and some of the sights across the islands in a romance novel.
Regarding the narrator, I wasn't a fan of this particular narrator for this style book. When a book has 3 different points of view, you really need more than one narrator, at least a male/female even if you don't use 3 different narrators for the 3 characters. It was hard to follow along sometimes when the characters changed so quickly in the beginning of the book between the two male characters. There weren't breaks/pauses to signify the change at times it seemed, so I'll admit I sometimes didn't realize who was speaking at the time. The narrator is also a pretty chill narrator, which doesn't exactly make the sexy moments that exciting. The narrator would be a better fit for a calmer book, but not this particular book.
I started this book not realizing it would end in a cliffhanger, which meant I was disappointed by the end. The Audible description didn't note that, but apparently it's noted on other sites, so I'll take the blame for not realizing that until there were 5 mins left in the book. Regardless, I'll continue to the next book since I really don't like to leave a series unfinished.
UNexpected is not so unexpected if you've read Alyne Hart before. She always seems to get me so caught up in her love affairs that I can never tell what's real and what's not. UNexpected is no different. I was quickly swept off my feet by these three. Gabe, Michael, and Amie have an instant connection that none of them understand. Yet, they all three decide to explore it. It leads to some amazingly sweet, hot, and swoon worthy romance.
Amie is amazing. She is coming off of a bad divorce and feels like she has no life left in her. She is so wrong. I love her strong and determined side. I also love her care free and roll with it side. She stumbles in her feelings at first, but realizes she can't change them and doesn't want to. Michael is a fun loving guy. He's flirty and hot, but isn't a dense guy. Gabe, sigh Gabe, is the sweet and rock steady one. Everything about him makes you feel comfortable and safe. When you put these two guys together? You love so much to love.
Alyne Hart completely stole my heart, I have to find out what happens next. I know she won't disappoint!
Readers will not be disappointed with this story! Each book Alyne crafts is always new and fresh with a different twist and turn. No two of her books are alike and that’s why she keeps you coming back for more. Do not shy away from the cliffhanger aspect because she ends the story in such a manner that leaves you hanging (in a good way), but yet you have some resolution—now that’s talent! Unique to Alyne is how she tells stories and the vivid descriptions she uses. You feel like you’re on the island and don’t want to ever leave. You fall in love with both men and the triple POVs are vital to telling the story. This is definitely a great read to escape and to be swept away into a fantasy. Make sure you check out the second book because this duet has it all!
WOW, this was just awesome and there was so much to the story. I liked that we got all the characters POV throughout. It kept me interested, entertained and turning page after page. This was an unconventional love story that involved 3 people and throughout the entire book you could feel all the emotions that they were going through with their love being the strongest shining through. I laughed, smiled and even shed a few tears along the way.
The sex scenes were also well written. They were sizzling hot and steamy and they too were all about the love each felt for the other.
As a lover of a good MFM menage story I always look forward to reading a new author to me in this genre. Unexpected by Alyne Hart did not disappoint and I enjoyed it a lot. There were everything that you want in a good MFM story - sizzling and steamy hot sex scenes, three good characters, emotional development, lots of chemistry, a decent story-line and did I already mention sizzling hot sex scenes!!!
I have not completed reading the second book in this duet but if the writing and story-line continue the same as with Unexpected, book 1 of the duet, then I do not anticipate being disappointed and will need a good fan and a strong drink to help cool down.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
I loved reading this story. I didnt know what to expect when I started reading it. I loved the chatacters. Its hot, steamy and full of passion. I cant wait for the next book x

Unexpected (A MFM Menage Romance) The Island Duet, Book 1 By: Alyne Hart Narrated by: Isabella Starr Series: The Island Duet (A MFM Menage Romance), Book 1
I thoroughly enjoy this book, it is a well written story that is captivates both your heart and attention from start to end. Alyne Hart is a gifted author and it is nice to see another side of her creative mind in a MFM romance. The storylines and characters are realistic and easy to relate to. Amie is in her mid thirties, newly divorced and her life is in the doldrums, she makes a decision and signs up for a volunteer program to help others. Not knowing that it was going to change her life forever more. Gabe and Michael are like brothers, they met as young boys, both were placed in with the same foster family and they bonded immediately when Gabe took Michael under his wings. That bond is still as strong as ever and they have similar life goals and work together to make them happen. They are currently volunteering to build homes in Hawaii and when new comer Amie comes in they are both drawn to her. When Amie is told there is no bed for her yet she was ok with sleeping on the coach, but there was a spare bed in Gabe & Michael’s shelter so they offered her that. The three hit it off right away, they become friends and then so much more. But can they make it work can there be a perfect trifecta? I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is nicely plotted and there is never a dull moment. In addition to the hot romance there is plenty of drama, some angst, plus lots of heartfelt and emotional moments, including when Gabe and Michael first meet and the heartbreaking ending. Alyne Hart, thank you for this great story and the emotional rollercoaster ride. I like how you kept it all real, how some people are not so excepting of others and their wished, Amie’s jealous co-volunteers, also the sensitive subject of what it is like for many in the foster care system. I am looking forward to what comes next for these great characters.
I listened to the Audible edition, Isabella Star did a nice job narrating the story and bringing the characters to life. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

I haven't read many menage romances, but i can say that I love them. I love the dynamics between all of the characters. And Unexpected by Alyne Hart is no exception. She captured my interest immediately at the beginning and didn't let me go until the end with tears in my eyes.
Amie is looking for an escape after her divorce. She signs up to help rebuild a village on Kauai. There she meets Michael and Gabe. They have been best friends almost their entire life. Amie is attracted to both of them and they are both attracted to her. Will she have to pick one or will she be able to choose both of them?
I loved all three characters in the relationship in this book. I feel like they totally had all their own personalities and their relationships with the others were unique. I loved Amie and her personality. I loved both Gabe and Michael together and separately, They were so different and yet they were both perfect for Amie. This story was so well written and it had me falling in love with this relationship. I felt all of the ups and downs throughout the entire book. I cannot wait to pick up the next one to find out what happens with the rest of their story.
I loved Isabella Starr's narration in this audiobook. I think she did an amazing job distinguishing everyone's voices. I do wish that there was just a bit more emotion in the delivery, though. I felt like everything was delivered in the same tone no matter if the character was happy, sad, or turned on. Other than that, I loved it. I will definitely be searching for more that she's narrated.

Unexpected (A MFM Menage Romance) The Island Duet, Book 1 By: Alyne Hart Narrated by: Isabella Starr
Amie is recovering from a bad marriage. Taking some time to help others while restoring herself, she goes to Kauai on to build homes. Here she meets Michael and Gabe. Each completely different, these two best friends hold qualities that Amie cannot resists. And they both find her alluring. But can she fall for both of them? And will three be a crowd? Alyne Hart writes with a passionate pen. Her characters always hold a lot of emotion and heart, and these are no exception. Gabe, Michael and Amie each have broken parts that need healing and together they seem to compliment each other. But when tragedy strikes, will their love survive? It's a story of love found and love lost, heartache and heartbreak, and Hart leaves us on a cliffhanger needing to know more! Have to queue up book 2 to see where this trio ends up!
Isabella Starr brings the three to life! She gives an amazing performance, from the emotional tugs of the trio to the jealous nastiness of the women on Kauai. She finds the best voices for each character and draws us into the Unexpected world of Amie, Gabe and Michael. Can't wait for more.
Title: UNexpected Author: Alyne Hart Format: Audio Narrator: Isabella Starr Genre: Romance, Menage (MFM) Standalone: Nope Part of a Series: Book 1 of The Island duet POV: Amy, Gabe and Micheal Steam Level: Toasty 4/5
Alyne Hart knows how to write a story with all the feels. Exploring how to be a thruple in a couple society, I love how Alyne Hart portrays the judgement and acceptance both externally and internally. I love Gabe and Michael's friendship and the foundation it was built on. Knowing that this is a duet I'm glad it didn't end where I thought it would but the actual ending leaves me wanting to immediately jump into UNconventional to see how it all works out.
I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsession. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Alyne Hart does a nice job of making the relationship seem realistic. I liked the characters and could identify with someone divorced in their mid-thirties, though I do wonder how Amy found two great guys when it seems challenging to find one. :) The story seemed to move slowly at times and it does end in a cliffhanger which you can see coming long before it happens.
I listened to the Audible version. Isabella Starr does a good job with the narration and speaks in more of a conversational voice, which I like. I think that especially with the length, that Unexpected would have benefitted from dual (or triple) narrators to make the POV more distinct as well as add some variation to the audio.
I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this story, it had so much feelings and was in some ways realistic. No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Good dialogues Well described characters that’s developed in to different personalities I jumped right in to the next audiobook in this duo. It’s a cliffhanger and I don’t like that, but it was so great that I didn’t care (that could be because I had the next ready)
Narrator: Clear pronunciation and read with feelings and it added to the enjoyment of this story
—>>> Three people instantly drawn together. For Gabe, he knew she was the one for him. And for them. For Michael, their fast connection was harder for him to fit into a future which suddenly was rocked when its foundation was shaken up. Sizzling chemistry in an idyllic setting. Looking forward to second part of their story, which I expect will be emotionally challenging for all involved. Love this author’s writing style and characters!
After a disastrous divorce, Amy's friend told her she needed to go somewhere to find herself. A trip to volunteer on the Hawaiian island turns out more than she ever thought. Having two hot male roommates, turns to friendship .and then lovers. Wow it cant get any better than that . steamy sexy and hot! Isabella Starr narration is wonderful. I thoroughly enjoy enjoyed listening to this story. 🎧audiobookobsessionreviewer🎧
Alyne Hart knows how to write and emotionally charged romance. I loved these characters. Amie just went though a terrible divorce and only wants peace and happiness. And I wanted her to be happy. I could feel her emotions bleeding right from the book. I also really liked Gabe and Michael. They were perfect together. I loved watching them fall in love.
I think I have found a new author for when I am in the mood for some emotions!
This is the first book in The Island Duet, a MFM romance. Amie, Gabe and Michael's story is sweet, and sexy. They share an instant attraction, and a sizzling chemistry. The characters are great. The story ends with a cliffhanger. Isabella Starr did a good job with the narration. #AudiobookObsession
