If you're a fan of Pokémon Black & White like I am, you might go into this manga expecting a serious, determined protagonist like Hilbert (the in-game protagonist). However, Black (his manga counterpart) is a huge contrast—instead of being cool and focused, he's goofy, loud, and overly enthusiastic about becoming a Pokémon Master. Honestly, it's a bit of a letdown. I was hoping for a more serious and strategic character, but instead, Black feels like your typical excitable shonen hero.
That said, the storyline still holds up well because Black & White has one of the best narratives in Pokémon history. The Pokémon Adventures manga is known for taking the darker, more intense aspects of the games and expanding on them, so I’m hoping Team Plasma’s ideology and N’s character will be explored in-depth as I continue reading.
Overall, while Black’s personality is different from what I expected, I’m still invested in the story because Pokémon Black & White is my favorite game in the series. Since I'm also playing Pokémon Black right now, I’ll keep reading to see how the manga adapts the legendary storyline and Team Plasma’s ideology.
