By my actual count, there are no less than 634 attractions listed in this profusely illustrated volume, more than half of which are only mentioned in passing in the sidebars--but the fact that they're there at all at least gives the reader a name to look up. Historic sites, amusement parks, shopping, natural wonders, sporting events and more, even at least one ice-cream parlor--they're all here. The book is arranged by geographic section, beginning in New England and going on to finish up with Alaska and Hawaii. The only reason I don't give it five stars is that so many of the places are only briefly referred to. This would be a great book to start out with when you're trying to decide where to go on your next few vacations--maybe start out with the section where you live and fan out from there.
