Ahh, man. I felt for Meaghan. Between having the residents of Pine Valley who know about supernatural beasties trying their hardest to keep their supernatural sides hidden (and doing everything in the book to try to keep Meaghan in the dark) and having Caine blaring about how he wants to get rid of the side of him that has a big soft spot for Meaghan, the lady isn't having the greatest Christmas.

After all, falling for a guy who keeps insisting the part of him that adores her is evil doesn't make for an easy road to happily ever after.

And Caine is certain his hellhound side is bad news. Certain of it. It takes a whole lot for him to understand that his new abilities don't make him bad, they just give him a little boost when it comes to going toe to toe with the supernaturals who have.

A boisterous, outspoken human, a town full of supes trying to keep themselves hidden, a hellhound with issues, and a little dragon who is SO STINKING CUTE! Good stuff all around.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I buy all of Zoe Chant’s books because I love her HEAs and her style of writing! Of course, I bought this one too!

The cover is steamy and Christmassy!!!

This is the 2nd book in the series, and we’ve waited a whole year for this one because it is another Christmas story! It is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content! I recommend reading the first book, so you know the characters and world better making this so much more together!!

Meaghan and Caine are both new to Pine Valley in this story though Meaghan has been there 6 months. They both have a lot of baggage and insecurities that are getting in the way of their relationship. There is also a mystery that needs solving as to who is attacking the town.

This book has a little of everything with the mystery, danger, drama, baggage, and romance. I loved every minute and couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. I know not everyone will agree with me, but I’ve loved all of Zoe’s books. She just makes each story a perfect mix for me that I can’t wait to read and can’t wait for the next book!

I highly recommend to any Zoe Chant fans and anyone who loves HEA shifter stories especially if you love Christmas stories! I can’t wait for more!

One of my favorite romances, ever.

A year ago, private investigator Caine was attacked by a hellhound while investigating a real estate scheme, turning him into a hellhound himself. Now, when he thinks he's found a way to get rid of the hated beast, he meets his mate, ex-foster kid Meaghan, who's helping to organize the town of Hartwell's Christmas celebration. Caine is willing to leave her for her own good, since he thinks his hellhound is evil, when he realizes the same real estate scam he was investigating is now taking place in Hartwell, and only he has the ability and knowledge to stop it.

Caine's self-hatred (and hatred of his hellhound) is heartbreaking, as is Meaghan's ingrained ideas that she's not lovable. They're both broken people whose are great together, helping each other heal. Caine learns that his hellhound is only as 'evil' as he himself is (ie, not evil), and Meaghan learns that she's made a family for herself, and Caine is the perfect addition to it,

💢HoHoHo what a Chritmas Eve Eve Eve Eve story. I just love Christmas with the sleigh bells ringing and caroling what great time of the year for this Hellhound.

🔷️Meaghan Markham works for Puppy Express in Pine Valley . It was a small tourist town but the residents were nice and friendly until things starting happening. It was like everyone was hiding something, BUT WHAT? Then the puppies and sleigh were stolen on Christmas Eve Eve Eve Eve.

🔷️Caine Guinness is a newly made Hellhound a monster. He came to Pine Vally to ask for help from the Heartwells. But he was kidnapped by his mate instead.

3.75 ⭐️ This was way better than I expected!

I really like the fated mates trope in my supernatural/shifter romances, and this one was so christmasy and cute! It was kind of predictable, but then again I liked that. It felt like the ultimate comfort read.

I liked the plot a lot, and the pacing. There are only a couple of smutty scenes (and to be honest they were kind of underwhelming), but that's ok. I didn't really miss the spiciness because they were so cute, their connection felt strong as it was.

Very enjoyable

I loved all the main characters. They were unusual, the main character suffering terribly under what happened to him in the past. The female lead i wanted to hug from the first, and the dogs are adorable! Ive this one a read, you won't regret it ;-)

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book!
Meghan just want a "merry" Christmas.
Is that too much to ask ?
Caine just wants to be human again.
He is still not accepting his hellhound.
When danger comes, will Caine step up to the plate ?
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.

OK shifter romance

This is an OK shifter romance. The couple is mostly likable, but it did bother me that they both had such low self-esteem. It made sense for Caine, since he thought his hellhound made him a monster. But Meaghan was sure that everything wrong was because she was such an unlikable person -- her self-esteem issues got a bit annoying after a while. I actually kind of wanted to knock some sense into both of them. One other thing that bothered me was that the resolution to their problem needed to be better explained. I won't give out spoilers, but it just seemed too easy and wasn't very believable.

Enjoyable KU read with a Christmas theme.
Likeable characters, fun plot but just didn’t fulfil me.
I think the negativity of the two H’s was annoying and continued too long.
The ending wrapped up well but not enough explanation. We know what happened but there was no explanation to others about WHY everything happened. Maybe that will come out later.
Felt sorry for the other Hellhounds being forced by a rotten Alpha to do what they did.
Hope we get more books in this series.

I was privileged enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book from the author for a voluntary and honest review.
Zoe Chant is amazing and this story did not disappoint. Once you start a book she wrote you can't put it down. Would I like for them to be longer? Of course. But her stories are so good that I'll wait for the next one while going back and re-reading the old ones.

Summary
Last Christmas season, Caine was bitten and became a hellhound shifter. He's come to Pine Valley to meet with the Heartwells, who are rumored to have almost lost their dragons. He wants to lose his hellhound. He smells canines near his mountain cabin rental, then hears a woman shriek in the forest, and races to save her without getting dressed. He finds an overturned sleigh and a woman being swarmed and licked by huskies. His hellhound perks up, speaks for the first time: Yes! Yes! Her! There! Caine turns to leave because he's afraid his hellhound will take over and hurt the woman like it did Caine's friend, Angus. The woman tells him to stop. The hellhound is thrilled she sees them.

Meaghan grabs one of the vandals who've been terrorizing the town. He must be one because he's where the stolen dogs and sleigh are. Even so, she feels attracted to him and the joy she saw in his fiery eyes. Meaghan fakes an injury to get him to help her to her truck so she can push him into the back with the dogs. She returns to the Puppy Express to have her friend Olly identify him. Olly says Caine wasn't with the group who'd scared her. Her boss tells Caine to use merch to get dressed and tells Meaghan to take him to dinner.

Evaluation
I enjoyed this paranormal Christmas romance. Having just finished book one, I found it repetitive with both heroines thinking "I'll screw things up as usual." Maybe that's how a foster child and a child of divorce feels? I love getting the story from both Meaghan's and Caine's points of view, and how each of them messes up in their own eyes but not in the other's. I adored how much the Heartwells were involved in the story: enough but not overpowering. And Cole is so darling!

Recommendation
Adults who like paranormal romances.

Favorite Quotes
“If you did spend the night here, and if you do feel like he’s the most incredibly, ridiculously, completely irritating and yet somehow also completely wonderful man you’ve ever met…” Abigail’s cheeks went pink. “…or maybe that was just me… but, anyway. If you feel like there’s something special and scary between you that you’ve never felt before, then it’s probably because you’re his mate.”

“Caine thinks he’s a monster. Everything was going so well, and then his hellhound popped up and I’m his mate, apparently, and since he hates his hellhound so much that means he doesn’t want anything to do with me. The end.”

Possible Triggers (spoilers)
Sex: two scenes
Language: 8 F words, 45 Lord's name in vain, 23 S words
Violence: vandalism, report of arson, runaway vehicle, fight

Critique (spoilers)
How is Caine's hellhound not tied to Angus's alpha until Angus commands him?

Caine's hellhound recognized Angus as a bad guy the day he came to life inside Caine, and in Pine Valley, hid from him in the Christmas trees. How did Caine get a good hellhound?

What now? Neither of them have a home, he doesn't have a job. The town didn't get tourist money. And what's he going to do with his pack?

There's a plot timing inconsistency. In book one, Jasper and Abigail met at Christmas, and on one of their dates, they discover the toy store is damaged. The next Christmas Abigail knows she's pregnant. In this book, Abigail has her little girl, but the toy store got destroyed the day before its grand reopening.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

It’s hard to pass up a Christmas Romance, especially when it’s a shifter we don’t often see and their story is published on my birthday. Hey, who can pass up a birthday gift, right? *wink*

Christmas Hellhound is a story that’s going to tug on your heartstrings, it’s going to mess with your emotions, and eventually, give you an amazing happy ending… but we as well as Caine and Meaghan are going to have to work to get to that happy ending.

Caine has traveled to Pine Valley for one purpose, to rid himself of his hellhound. The monster that lives within. He’s heard rumors that the shifters here, specifically the dragons know how to remove their animal and he wants this thing gone. In reality what Caine knows about being a shifter could fit on the head of a pin. And he’s about to get educated, real fast.

Meaghan has always pushed her way in.. to friendships, to locations, to people’s lives. She believes that it’s better to push now and hurt later. She’s come up through the foster care system and truly believes she’s never going to be good enough for anything that lasts. So she pushes and demands and makes herself a pain in the butt until it’s time to move on to a fresh start. Now she’s pushing the people of Pine Valley to a breaking point. Someone is out to ruin Christmas. This ghost gang that no one can see except for glimpses of fire and smoke, but their evil intentions are very clear. Why everyone in town is fighting her on believing in their existence is annoying, it’s as though there’s this huge secret in Pine Valley and no one is letting her in on it. Doesn’t matter, Meaghan will save the town and Christmas on her own if she has to.

Caine and Meaghan are truly two wounded souls for different reasons. Their story is about to hurt them even more before the joy happens but what an adventure to get to that point. I fell in love with Caine’s hellhound. And without saying more I think that you’ll understand why as you read Christmas Hellhound for yourself. We’ll meet up with some old friends from A Mate for the Christmas Dragon, and add a few more pieces of information about the lovely tourist town of Pine Valley. I had a blast with this one, and if you love Shifter Romance then I’m betting you would, too.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Caine Guinness lost everything when he was attacked and turned into a hellhound a year ago. Now all he wants is to get rid of his hellhound and he's heard that the Dragons that reside in Pine Valley may be able to help him do just that. What he doesn't realize is that there are others like him around causing havoc this Christmas. He's rented a cottage far from others, not taking any chances on hurting anyone. He has his recurring nightmare and wakes to hear barking and then a woman screaming.

Meaghan found the stolen sleigh and the dogs from Puppy Express, and the dogs are very excited to see her. She's struggling trying to get them to subside when Caine finds her. While he's relieved, she is furious. After a near disaster with the sleigh, Meaghan gets him locked into her truck with the dogs and drives back to Puppy Express. All very proud of herself.

Instead of appreciation she gets yelled at not only because Caine wasn't one of the thieves but also because of the danger she put herself in. Her punishment is to get Caine clothes from the gift shop and to take him to dinner.

On the way to town Meaghan apologizes and explains what's been going on. She's really determined that Christmas is not ruined by everything that's been happening.

Caine figures the best thing he can do is help her when he realizes that hellhounds are responsible for everything.

After dinner on the drive to his cottage, he gets a lot more information on the damage that has been done and also the tidbit that there are property investors interested in the area. Unfortunately, that sounds way too familiar to him.

I love the way this plays out as Caine not only helps the dragons but also romances his mate Meaghan.

There's laughter, tears, suspense on top of the romance and that touch of sizzle.

Embracing life and letting go of fear

I loved this fated mates, shifter-human, Christmas romance with a side of bad guys. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, painful pasts, and spice. It gave me all the swoony swoons while also pulling at my heartstrings with all the emotions. Caine was a regular human until last Christmas when he was attacked by a hellhound shifter. Now, he is a hellhound shifter and he has lost all the good things in his life. He has come to Pine Valley for the rumor of a shifter that might help him get rid of the interloper. Meaghan works at the Pine Valley Puppy Express, which gives Christmas Wonderland sleigh rides. She encounters Caine while looking for dogs that have been stolen. She is positive something is going on in the town and that Caine is part of it. After accidentally kidnapping an innocent Caine, the journey to their HEA is a bit of a bumpy journey with baggage unpacking, truth telling and mystery solving. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit uncomfortable in their skin because they don’t feel like they fit in or are worthy, like Caine and Meghan. So I love when they finally see their truth and they get swoon worthy HEAs. This heartwarming story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I am excited to read more stories set in this town. 4.5 stars.

Not the worst of the trilogy, but not the best either
Setting: Pine Valley Contemporary
Genre: Shifter romance

Caine Guinness came to Pine Valley looking for Jasper Heartwell because he had heard that the dragon shifter was almost able to lose his animal. And Caine wants, above all things, to lose the Hellhound that has been sharing his soul for rage past year. Then, before he can make contact with the dragon, he meets Meaghan Markham and, suddenly, he can feel no evidence that the monster inside of him exists. It’s gone! But psych! just kidding. It just wanted him to win the girl. Meaghan is new to Pine Valley. She is serially new everywhere she goes, because she wears out her welcome fast. She’s loud, overbearing, and lacks boundaries. And all of a sudden there’s this really hot guy who likes her. But oops! it’s not really him, it’s the monster in him that has claimed her. The monster he hates. That makes her a hateful monster too, right? Besides all the internal whining from both the h/H about how horrible they feel about themselves, there is also a mystery. Someone is trying to ruin Christmas. Can Caine and Meaghan get their heads out of their nether regions and save the holiday?
The grammar in this book is passing fair, and there weren’t too many typos. The mystery was mildly interesting. This is an average read if toy can get beyond the one-dimensional character development.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest review.
I really enjoyed this one as I've only read 1 other book with a Hellhound, so it was good to get more of what they are about, what they can do etc.
It was also a little different with Caine not wanting to be a Shifter, that's not something you come across often, with the human side usually embracing its animal side, being two parts of the one soul. I always find it interesting how the author overcomes what ever may be keeping the two parts from being completely in sync with each other, and this one didn't disappoint.
Meaghan was a really pushy, in your face, kind of gal and she knew she was and even though she seemed to rush in like she was invincible to any dangerous situation, she was a really likable character.
I liked Caine and his Hellhound and if I'm reading the ending like I hope I am, then we should be getting some more Hellhounds maybe?!?!
Lots of interesting secondary characters and we get to hear from the Dragon's as well, which I enjoyed. Overall a great addition to this series

Caine and meaghan

This is book two following on a year later but with two new characters.caine was turned into a hellhound last Christmas he thought he was evil now and looking for jasper to help him remove his hellhound but he finds meaghan (a human and his mate first) not really understanding shifters he does not know what a mate means and fears his animal wanting meaghan.when I saw the 5 days before Christmas again I thought this was going to be the same as the last story but with new main leads, it is kind of but there is no talk about his birthday instead it's about him not shifting for nearly a year and there is a pack of hellhound in town causing trouble for months, one of them caine knew or thought he did but not knowing about shifters.I thought meaghan was going to become a hellhound but it never went that path.I don't understand how they stopped when she said so, I get caine he is her mate but the other? Is it because she is human lupa? That was not made clear?

What a great Hellhound story. Caine has struggled with his forced change. He fears his hellhound, and wants it gone. He's come to Pine Valley in hopes the dragons here can help him.

When he stumbles upon Meaghan rescuing stolen puppies and their sleigh ... his hellhound speaks to him for the first time... OURS. Then he goes silent. She, however thinks he's part of the gang who stole said puppies.

She tosses him in her trunk, and takes her back to the Puppy Express. Turns out, he's not a puppy napper, and her boss tells her to take him to dinner. Feeling like himself for the first time in a year, he throws himself into getting to know Meaghan. She also feels the pull, but doesn't want to screw it up like she always does.

A great story of learning to trust in yourself & believing in someone else. I love when Caine fully embraces who he is now. Such a great feel-good story.

Caine has traveled to Pine Valley to meet with Jasper (from book 1 in the series) The dragons are the only shapeshifters he knows of that can expel their animal. He had been turned into a hellhound a year ago and is desperate to get rid of it.

He is awakened by loud barking and a woman screaming so he charges to her rescue. Meaghan was not in distress but was trying to rescue some sled dogs that had been “borrowed.” She immediately decides that Caine is one of the culprits and forces him into her vehicle to be taken back to town.

Enter romance until complications arise. Meaghan misunderstands why Caine wants to get rid of his hellhound. She thinks the hellhound is the only reason he desires her and leaps to the conclusion that he wants to get rid of it so he can be rid of her.

Everything eventually gets straightened out, the bad guys are caught and Caine and Meaghan are a couple once again.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Needed to smooth out the inconsistency

Confused. My logic heavy brain kept interrupting this story as I read it. His partner situation never made sense. He was in the Cory for most of the year after his attack. Illogical that he would not find out. As well the glaring part of him finding about the town and dragons. Obviously they have not “lost” them, and he logically found out about shifters from other shifters. So he would have not been clueless. They would have sent him to someone for answers. Not to mention as an investigator he should have found out what partner was upto way before end.
Lastly the ending was too abrupt, what happened to his and his partners business. Where did the money go and was he involved with anyone else.
Gave rating for how they met, the puppies.

A simple escapist Christmas fantasy romance. Not super classy literature, but a fun and quick read to break the monotony of your more serious literary pursuits. A few problems with editing and grammar here and there, but nothing so serious as to render the text unreadable.

The main characters were tormented a little (typical romance misunderstanding influenced drama) but the story has an actual plot in addition to the drama and both the plot and the romance end well, no cliffhangers or teasers for the author's next book.

I did enjoy a few new aspects the author lends to the shifter-type characters, I don't know if they were original, but they were new to me and I found them interesting.

A bit of spice, but limited to two scenes and not overly explicit. I would say this is R, but a case may be made for PG13 instead. No language nor violence.

The books are well written but I just have really like the MC’s much. The whole I screw everything up/I’m not good enough or something will go wrong gets old pretty quick, and from the blurbs from the authors other books in this series and other series it looks to be the theme in all of them and it’s a bit much for me. It all feels a bit shallow. The first in the series the FMC ends up hating X-mas because her dad bailed at that time. Just seems an extreme reaction. In this one the FMC throws herself into bad situations or dumb decisions cause she was a foster kid desperate for attention and has an all or nothing mentality. I don’t expect it to get any better in this one or further in the series based off the blurbs. There is only so much a person can take of the self-depreciation of the characters before it gets annoying or feels fake.

It’s a Christmas miracle

Who knew a hellhound could be sweet, gentle and loving? Not me, but I was totally taken in by this gentle giant of a shifter. Caine didn’t even realize that he wasn’t fighting his hellhound so much as the evil that hid in the shadows as he tried so hard to do what he thought was the right thing. Meaghan is no gentle soul. She is a brash, forceful personality who embraces life and those who she considers hers with all the finesse of a pit bull. She didn’t even realize it, but she was surrounded by people who loved her the entire time. When these two get together the sparks will fly for them and their friends. I have fallen in love with the citizens of Pine Valley! Now I’m going to have to go back and read book one!

A great story, filled with action, passion, tension and lots of puppies! This well-written, beautifully descriptive tale sees Caine struggling to purge himself of the “monster” that lives within. He doesn’t see himself as worthy of the love and the passion that human Meaghan stirs in him. She doesn’t believe that anyone could ever want her, so when Caine runs from her, she believes it’s because he doesn’t want her around. At the same time, they are trying to discover who is sabotaging Christmas for the residents of Pine Valley. Will they get to the bottom of this and find the real monsters? Will they come to see that their bond is meant to be or will they continue to push the other away? Read on for the answers and you’ll get to the very satisfying ending. Highly recommended.

Great shifter romance with a very different shifter animal!

Meghan and Caine are both complex characters dealing with some difficult issues. I would have liked to see Caine resolve his issue a little sooner, but that is just because I hate to see people suffer. The storyline itself worked best the way it went. It seemed more natural...well...as natural as you can get with a hellhound as the hero!! There is a fast pace, an uncertain tone, a character oriented storyline with some steamy scenes and vivid characters. I loved seeing everyone from book 1 in here and hope that Ollie and Jackson will get their own story some day soon! You don't have to read the first book to get this story. But it will make more sense to you if you do.Enjoy!

Rousing Hellhounds

Caine was forcibly turned into a Hellhound shifter last Christmas. Although the details are fuzzy, he knows he wants his Hellhound gone. When he meets Meaghan, under hilarious circumstances, he thinks his fortunes have changed. He believes between Meaghan and the family of dragons living up the mountain his shifter problem will be solved. But then this is the Christmas season and the town of Pine Valley is under attack, and Meaghan is determined to find who is causing all the accidents and issues and stop it. By default Caine joins in the search. Danger, suspense and mystery follow our characters as they pursue both the town's enemies and their own. A fitting and rewarding conclusion to this story makes all right in the world.

A hellhound saving Christmas?

A great story showing us how many of us self deprecate and the problems that can result or be avoided. I agree with another reader about it being a bit much though. Also I agree with the Alpha thing. It was intimated that the female was the Alpha, since she is the one who commanded them all.
Also, in the beginning of the second chapter, Meagan marvels that she has to look up at Caine. But later in the book it says Meagan has never kissed someone her height. This kind of inconsistency is why many people will now pay $3 plus dollars for ebooks. I know Ms. Chant is a better author than this. It does make me wonder if this wasn't a class or group project; since this book didn't say anything about editing or even publishing.

Understand Your Second Nature

I Really wanna describe this story as funny Somewhat exciting, and somewhat exasperating.Megan is just a force to be reckoned with and always worried people will not like her and force her away from them.I

Thinking she's finally found a place to call home and friends she said to the small town and wants to fit in so bad that she will go to great lengths to prove her worth.I

Caine comes to this town seeking away to get his life back little does he know that what he seeks is not what he needs. He kicked his head on straight before he was this the best thing that ever happened to him?

Another great book in this series and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
