Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic

Rate this book

How much damage will the Democrats do to our republic in the name of saving it?

In the years he served on and eventually chaired the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Jason Chaffetz gained crucial insight into the inner workings of D.C. Things were bad then, but during the Trump administration, liberals have reached a new level of hysteria and misconduct.

Democrat anger has grown so irrational that it has burst through the constitutional guardrails which protect our institutions and our republic. While they constantly label the right “fascist,” the left imposes policies which suppress speech, limit freedom, and empower federal bullies.

In Power Grab, Chaffetz pulls back the curtain on the world of hypocrisy, political intrigue, and procedural malfeasance that is Washington D.C. With stories you won't read anywhere else, he shows how the left weaves false narratives, drums up investigations in search of a crime, and refuses to direct congressional oversight towards its appropriate target: the government. Democrats weaponize nonprofit advocacy groups and monetize partisan anger to line the pockets of their political allies. They use “voter enrollment” as a smokescreen to hide their plans to destabilize free elections and seek to politicize federal agencies like the Federal Election Commission, the IRS, and the Department of Justice.

It shouldn’t be this way. Democrats have abandoned the wisdom set forth in the Constitution for short-term political wins. Power Grab shows the lengths to which Democrats will go to maintain their grip on power, and how the only thing that will stop them is a return to our founding principles.

Brilliant author who states clear witness and example. Double standards of law and survey. How narratives are created and repeated for purpose of obstruction.

I have to think about this read for awhile to convey the depth of assault that the USA Constitution has suffered in these narratives and obstructions. And also how I can portend or describe (either) about Chaffetz's witness. If what this may base mean for viability for only 3 prescribed by law branches of government in "form". Or the actual fall outs for unity or for a common understanding / agreed definitions for the continuing of the USA Constitutional form as it is supposedly documented by law presently. Non-profits $$$$$ % used for politico narratives alone is mind- boggling. But what is truly horrific is the branch swamp entities wholly non-elected that are self-erected tails shaking the dog.

All the level of lies that are repeated long enough that the "know better" believe that they can redefine "truth". And in non-elected cabals have succeeded in doing just that.

There were a lot of facts in “Power Grab” that I already knew (though I usually subscribe to the saying that it is always good to be reminded of what you know. There are also items that I was not aware of, and seeing them all in one spot can be enlightening as well as scary.

Former U.S. Representative (and former Democrat) Jason Chaffetz pulls no punches laying out his discussion points concerning the political battle for the future of America. After laying out the groundwork of what has already happened, he begins to describe the Democratic plans as we head into the election year of 2020. He states: “We want our nation to be strong. That’s why America elected a disruptive and unconventional president.” Chaffetz believes that we will experience political obstruction in order for Democrats to recover the presidency. He also recognizes that the folks who will ultimately pay for this gridlock and polarization will be the American public.

A chapter-long examination of the 116th Congress H.R. 1 reveals issues that range from a violation of separation of powers to elimination of states’ rights. A personal trip through the bill reveals a strange passage allowing 16-year-olds to register to vote (although the next section wants us to understand that this doesn’t mean the state has to allow the 16-year-old to vote – but then why go through the process when many 18-year-olds have moved just when they become eligible to vote?). Chaffetz ends the chapter by reviewing the ten priority bills that Democrats will introduce.

Other chapters are just as interesting. “Oversight Without Government Reform” is a reference to the change of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to the committee on Oversight and Reform, with the implication that the focus will now be on the private sector (as well as President Trump). This is bad timing, as an earlier chapter graphed how Democratic charities have found a way to contribute massive amounts of money to Democratic political coffers (similar efforts by Republicans are also detailed, although the Dems are currently millions and millions ahead). The deception of the American public is nothing short of appalling.

Throughout the book I questioned Mr. Chaffetz, but each time I did, my personal research revealed that his statements could be backed up by others. While the book is written from the right side of the political aisle, I am not comfortable with the potential of Pelosi and company grabbing power, based upon what has already been done and what their own words say about where they want to take this country.

Bottom line: Rabid Republicans will love this book and Rabid Democrats will hate it. As with any political book, it should be a place to start your own research. This book is no different. The book is well written and logically put together. Along with conservative talking points, there are some little known facts concerning laws and how they affect all of us. Five stars.

Lets start by addressing the elephant in the room, pun intended. I am not a Trumper, I do not own a MAGA hat (although I do not have an issue with it), not a white supremacist (my family is from Cuba), I do not watch Fox, I am not a Republican. Now that we have that out of the way, lets get started.

I understand the hatred for Trump. I understand that the left wanted Hillary to win. I understand because I wanted Ron Paul to win in 2008 and 2012 and did not want Obama for one term and certainly not two. But when Obama won.... again, I again accepted the outcome of the election and moved on. This outrageous, unhinged behavior is incredible, especially from a party that has always put out a message of tolerance and of a group of people that are smarter than the non-Democratic people. In my opinion, this image has been shattered. In this book, you will see how intolerant the left "has become".

Chaffetz, a former Congressman, exposes the corruption in D.C. and more specifically with the left. He made a point that I have always known, he mentioned that the left is not about helping people but more about gaining and retaining power. This is obvious with the latest Congressional Majority today. They have done absolutely nothing but multiple witch-hunts.

I have to hope that deep down inside, the people who consider themselves "liberal" have to see the hypocrisy of the Left. I mean as recent as this past week, the Bidens faced reports of Hunter Biden sitting on the board of a Ukrainian company. What's worse, is that Biden is on a video essentially admitting to what the left is falsely accusing Trump of doing. On this video, BTW I wanted to include the video but it seems that bug tech has scrubbed access to it, you hear the former VP speaking at the Council of Foreign Relations. At this meeting he specifically says that if they did not fire the prosecutor, he would hold the billion dollars promised to Ukraine. Not only did he admit to bribing the Ukrainian leader to stop an investigation that could be unfavorable to his son, but he implicated President Obama. In the interview and his bragging session, he states the the Ukrainians questioned HIS authority and that they had already spoken to Obama, he said "call him".

Chaffetz exposes Nancy Pelosi's tactics to change the rules to favor herself and maintain herself in power unlike what the Republicans did to John Boehner, former Speaker of the House. Chaffetz does an excellent job is exposing the 501.c(3) and 501.c(4) and how they use their tax exempt status to affect elections. He also covers the IRS scandal whereby they denied 501.c(3) status to Right leaning groups seeking that status. This was a scandal that was essentially whitewashed by the media.

I recommend this book for anyone looking to see how the insiders are working to obtain and retain power in D.C. I truly believe that if the people hold their respective parties accountable for their actions, and do not fall into the partisan bickering, this country will be much better than what it is today.

This is really scary stuff. Many of Chaffetz’ points I had surmised just by watching closely the activities of Democrat officials but Chaffetz does a very thorough job of illuminating the entire picture. The main conclusion from this work is that the Democrats are using every possible dirty trick and pushing to the extremes (and beyond if possible) to gain political power and to punish (using bad legislation, police powers, public embarrassment, and bankrupting) their opponents or anyone who might get in their way. As a model they wish to create the same inefficacious one-party system California has created and force everyone in America to bend to their socialist utopia. This is racketeering on a level of King George III, Parliament, and organized crime set in an “Alice in Wonderland/ 1984/ Brave New World/ Future Shock” scenario.

As I said, scary but true. Chaffetz writes in an even-handed manner, explaining in depth what is going on and why it is wrong, what the correct way is and how to fix the problem. We have the answer in ur Constitutional system. Written in 2019 before the impeachment, now (late 2020) things have gotten much worse, yet consistent with what Chaffetz warns us about. People need to read this carefully.

While this book is well written, and quite informative, more than once I felt my blood pressure rise. Not at the author, but the liberals. There were instances with non-profits and IRS that the news covered but I couldn't quite figure out how they did it. He shows us, and it all ties together in a way it should have been obvious, but until President Trump showed us the Deep State was not as exposed as it is now. This book clearly lays out some raw facts enlightening us how election fraud before 2020 and agencies worked. Shifting money from hands of politicians to agencies that were bought and given again as political donations. Disgusting for innocent charities and non-profits to keep their IRS status due to corruption from large giving deceptions.

I recommend this books for folks on both sides of the aisle. It's not as partisan as the title would lead you to believe.

The real power of the US Congress resides in the committees and subcommittees, and Chaffetz does a thorough job of explaining the "hows" and "whys" of many of them. Despite the title, he does point out power grabs attempted by both parties, but focuses mostly on a handful of Representatives' willingness to break the rules and the law in pursuit of what they believe is the Better Good.

It's a case of "The End Justifies The Means"

Problem is - that could come back to haunt them if the Republicans choose to use those abuses as precedents once a Democrat holds the POTUS position. But with a short term focus, that's a fight they're willing to save for later.

Every single point made in this book, every single fact, every statistic is sited and indexed so you can research it yourself. While reading it, I would randomly pick items every couple of pages to make sure he was staying honest, and not once did I find an error.

Keep in mind, this book was written "pre-Ukraine" and deals only with matters occurring once the Mueller once report was released.

The former Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has done a real service since leaving office with his exposes of the Deep State and obstruction by the Democrats. While his accounts of the hypocrisy of Pelosi, Naylor, Schiff, Waters & others are old news, I did learn some new information. It is an outrage how the Democrats, since taking the majority in the House in 2018, have removed all constraints on spending and have been driving up the national debt. They have even brought back earmarks!

Rep. Chaffetz’s book is an outstanding compilation of legislative experience describing the recent and ongoing resistance programs limiting American progress. As a reader, I was able to understand beyond the 24-7 news cycle the “whys” and “what” that doesn’t get reported. As a citizen, I’m frustrated with the impediments to cooperation and consensus building that carried this country in the past, but not presently. Our American progress depends on an educated mass making the proper choices in our representative democracy, which is vitally important. This book was helpful.

All that needs to be said is that if you love and care about our country and the foundations in which it was created you should read this book. No matter what party you belong to the fundamentals of our nation are the same & should be! That’s what this book highlights and displays how in many ways that has & is being corroded by bipartisanship. AND let me be clear!! It’s being done on BOTH sides. And both sides need to clean it up together or this country is destined for a fracture that may never be reversed.

Insight from someone from the inside. Great presentation of thoughts and opinions about the current mess our Country and political system is.

Problems are systemic and both sides see it. Rather than address the issues each side abuses the system for their advantage.

It gets farther and farther away from being for The People. We are pawns in their power struggle. People need to wake up and voice their opinions and make a different.

Truly terrifying. I thought the biggest threats to our constitution, country and President were in the visible federal government. But the tendrils of the corruption are spread throughout the country and it’s scary! From enormous non-profit groups to nefarious ways of rigging elections, its almost overwhelming. But I enjoyed Jason’s final thoughts on the hope for our country’s future.

Interesting info, however, this author goes very deeply into the political weeds. There is a lot of opinion on how congress should conduct it's self and sadly, not one thing he can do about the lack of real oversight being conducted as he is no longer a congressman.

Needs a bit more context at times for us laymen.

Terrifying if it’s true, would love to read a rebuttal.
