I-i-it's not like a spider needs friends!

did it! I'm finally an arachne!... Aaand things already aren't going the way I thought they would. I'm inexplicably on a road trip with the Demon Lord, a reincarnated baby, and her troubled vampire guardian. I don't really interact with them much, besides subjecting my reborn classmate to insane training, watching the party sneak off into villages, hearing about the delicious food they eat... Wait. hold up. Doesn't it seem like I'm the only one who's being left out?!? W-w-well, the monsters up here taste delicious, so whatever! Sniff, sniff. I wonder if my other brains are having a better time... What are they even up to?

I've decided. This volume is my new favourite volume. 😂

The first two thirds of the volume is 90% slice of life, the amount of action is scant compared to previous volumes but because of the slow pace and relative lack of exciting scenes, the quality of the character-crafting aspect gets scoped for what it's really worth. And the result is amazing.

I really like all the character POVs through which we readers experience the story. White's POV of course, but also Ronandt, Dustin, Merazophis, Aurel, Julius, and Sophia. Through Sophia's POV, I especially like how we get to discover the complication of the relationship between White and Ariel. It's a 'frienemy' kind of relationship that I really like, between two characters that I again really like, and observed through another character's POV which means other characters also notice it, that little detail also I like, and stimulated by a third party's direct jabs at the relationship from time to time, giving a broader dynamic to that complicated relationship while also adding a comedic effect. Basically, I like everything that has to do with the relationship between White and Ariel.

Then there's the dynamic between Sophia and Merazophis, Ariel's with Dustin and Pontifas, Guli-Guli's with Ariel, White and the Puppet Spiders. Man, basically all the relationships are fascinating. And we also found out White's drunken behaviour, which is peak comedy.

And it's very interesting to sorta be bamboozled by the differences between past-Ariel, the kind Demon Lord, to the rather twisted Demon Lord that she would become when the war starts between humans and demons. It weirded me out because the transformation feels pretty drastic. Reading her words and her POV instils in me the feeling that Ariel is a wise person. Wise, mature, and admirable. I'm all attentive now for all hints that could show me the reason for her change in character, or maybe the change is my presumption when the fact is she wouldn't be as bad as I think, in the future.

The more I read, the more it stands out to me that my good impression of the author's handling of the characters is truly happening. The different POVs didn't bore me, and if they did (at times), it's really only because of the personality of the character itself. And through those POVs, I even became interested to read about the situations that occur but from another character's POV, who was also involved in that situation, because I'm interested in what that character thinks of that particular situation based on their POV that I've previously read.

I've no complaints with this volume. Literally none. I think it's flawless.

I'm probably gonna take a break from this series after this book because all the skill overload is getting to me tbh...

But seeing how White interacts with the first reincarnation is almost motherly.... if she was a spartan trainer ig LMAO....

And the reincarnation Sophia..... it was nice to see her emotional turmoil as it felt like she was one of only reincarnations who felt somewhat attached to her old life.... well... to give author the benefit of the doubt... I think I only really got to see a few backstories while reading this novel so far so more might come in the future....

And Sophia's butler is one of the characters who I commend fr... man lost his his best friend and boss and then his unrequited love all in one night and then was turned into a vampire and had to escape while seeing the town he loved be burned and conquered... like damn bro... he had a valid crashout... it wasn't much of a crash out but his feelings of depression were so valid and relatable...

I can't wait to see how all of them will be in the demon realm.

We’ve reached Volume 6. Has Okina Baba done it again, or is series fatigue setting in?

It’s funny I ask that, because I don’t series fatigue being a thing for this series. Especially if things continue the way they did in this Volume. Gone are the future chapters covering what’s happening with the other reincarnations as they’re older. And while I’m curious to see how things play out in that part of the story, I much prefer focusing on one timeline at a time. And our spider’s part of the story is easily the more interesting of the two for me. But that’s not to say the human side of things isn’t good in it’s own right; I just prefer our spider more. And she is so cute in this volume!

We get to see her develop more as a character and a person (half person?). After the events of the last Volume, she’s become an Arachne, a half human-half spider monster, and is traveling with Baby Sophia (who she calls Vampy), the butler/servant Merazophis (Mera for short) and the Demon Lord, Ariel. She’s named White by the Demon Lord, and now the beast of the future timeline makes more sense. I always wondered who White was initially and how she was so strong, and now we know for sure. It’s no wonder, she’s such a force in the humans’ story.

We get to learn more about the Mera and Sophia (that we see in the humans’ story) and it’s a treat. Not that it’s all slice of life mind you, but a lot of this Volume deals with the internal problems our little group suffers from. Be it White and the Demon Lord’s relationship, Mera and Sophia’s relationship or any combination. We learn more about the motivations of these characters, which only works to make me care more about them. The author does a great job humanizing these monsters, so much so that you can’t help but care about what they’re going through. Their troubles seem so real, and you want them to resolve them, you want them to come out on top against whatever adversaries they face. It’s an odd thing, I know: To care about monsters more than humans…

While we don’t see what’s happening with the human reincarnations this Volume, we do get to see more of the strongest human mage studying magic under the Parallel Minds White has left in the Labyrinth (and this group’s reaction to him is freaking hilarious!). Though, studying is a bit of stretch. He’s basically witnessing and trying to take part in the hellish training the Parallel Minds are putting their army of spiders through to grow stronger. I won’t say what the training is, because experiencing it alongside, Ronandt, through his eyes is fun…for the reader at least.

I feel like I say this often, but this was the best installment so far. It just keeps getting better, and seeing things real time, instead of jumping from one timeline to another makes following things much easier. The chart of events given in Volume 4 puts everything in order, but I like reading just one timeline at a time if possible. Some of the tension is removed when you know the characters in one timeline make it out of sticky situations because they’re in the future timeline as older versions of themselves, so missing those future segments helped a little when fully immersing myself in the lives of the characters. I’m not sure how long the future parts will be absent, but at least I was able to enjoy one great Volume without any timeline hopping.

My thoughts on "So I'm a Spider, So What?" (蜘蛛ですが、なにか?) Vol 6

Written by Okina Baba
Art by Kiryu Tsukasa

For a series that is about 90% non-stop battles, this volume was somewhat different.

The story:
This volume totally lacked Hero MC's story, there was not even a chapter dedicated to his storyline.
And on Spider MC side instead of the usual nonstop battles, this volume focused more on the characters’ inner turmoil and relationships with others.

(spoilers ahead)
Because of a lot of reasons Kumoko (spider mc unofficial name) decides to raise a baby vampire. Then she has to fight and kill copies of herself because they went crazy and tried to exterminate the human race.

There were three new narrators this volume.
A recently converted vampire that struggles about becoming inhuman. A crazy wizard that worships Kumoko and goes buck-naked to the labyrinth to train his magic and the baby vamp Kumoko is raising
(end of spoilers)

Enjoyment:
This volume had a lot of developments. It wasn't as battle-heavy as others but it was still very incredibly good. The whole volume was about Kumoko and her party traveling to another country with a lot of obstacles in their way. It was relaxing fun and very enjoyable

The verdict:
I really liked this volume (as all the previous volumes) and how the world-building and characters relationships were greatly expanded this time around was a very nice change of phase to see 9.5/10

Last volume had some big revelations so I was worried about this, but this continues to be one of the best light novel series I'm following. Good. Powerful. Funny. I love these characters a lot.

This volume marks a change from previous volumes. It shows in the character focus, the selection of chapters and the overall arc of the story. It is fun. It is interesting. It is a change of pace.

For character focus, Komoko is not front and center. This is actually a breather volume for her. She spends it traveling with Ariel, Sophia and Merazophis and the puppet spiders, and she passes time by experimenting with Divine Thread cloth weaving. It is basically a road trip with her grandmother while she plays with her cousins. That is heartwarming. It is nice to see her not have to fight for her life every minute for once. That is not to say she DOESN'T have a terrible challenge to face before the end.

For the selection of chapters, this is the first volume that doesn't switch between time periods. Yeah, prior volumes would switch between Spider chapters, focusing on Komoko, and Shun chapters that take place about 20 or so years later. All this volume's chapters take place in the "Spider" time period, which is not to say that there is no differing of viewpoints. Indeed, this volume has several viewpoints, all developing several characters. In fact, all of Komoko's party members get viewpoint chapters, as well as Rondandt. All of them have their own character arcs. It really is impressive how the author manages to develop and bring to completion so many character arcs without bloating or dragging the narrative.

For the overall arc of the story, more of the myth arc is revealed. Remember some volumes ago when Komoko maxed out Taboo and learned the truth of the world? Yeah, it was an Unreveal at the time, and now we get to learn more of what is going on behind the scenes. Beyond the human-demon war of the Shun chapters, we see more of what is truly happening during "the present". Not everything is revealed, because the discussion takes place from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't have the frame of reference for it, but the reader can piece it together.

This ties into the terrible challenge which Komoko must confront.

It is a nice change of pace and another homerun for the author.

Sometimes I wonder why I love this series, I definitely let it get away with things I usually hate. But, maybe it doesn’t matter why.

This is the first book in the series that doesn’t have Shun’s POV, I was a bit disappointed since last book made me excited for what would happen next, but it’s also understandable if the author wants to have White’s side catch up first. We did get some creepy old guy pov instead, and I laughed and laughed. Sophie has some chapters and it was interesting to see how different she is from White. There was also one chapter from Julius’s POV, it’s understandable why, just knowing what happens later I didn’t want to read it. Julius possesses something Shun doesn’t, doubt. I just want to hug him and tell him it’s okay to be a child, but even if I did he wouldn’t listen to me.

All in all, I enjoyed myself. Super glad the situation with the parallel minds didn’t get dragged out. It wasn’t obvious in the previous books since White was on her own and talking to herself basically, but she really does have trouble talking to other people. Also I laughed a lot at certain moments in the book. Excited to find out what happens next (can’t wait to learn what’s going on with the orges!), a bit concerned (and okay excited) about Sophie’s and M’s clearly codependent relationship.

This volume stands out as one of the best in the series so far for me, offering a satisfying blend of character development, rich internal conflict, and expanded world-building. This installment feels particularly impactful due to the contrast it presents between White’s internal monologue and her reluctance to express herself outwardly. The way these moments of introspection unfold deepens our understanding of her character and makes her journey all the more compelling.

One of the standout elements of this volume is the exploration of relationships. In previous volumes, character interactions and emotional growth were sometimes sidelined in favor of action and world-building. However, in Volume 6, there’s a notable focus on how relationships evolve, with characters changing in response to the challenges they face. This added depth was a welcome shift, making the emotional stakes of the story feel more real and relatable.

When I finished the current seasons of the 'So I'm A Spider' anime I was still hungry for more. I was reluctant to read light novels because they have a little bit of a reputation for yknow, being trash, but honestly I enjoyed this experience. If you're an extremely busy person like myself (I currently have four jobs and attend school) then this genre might actually enable you to feel like you're getting some decent reading in.

It is, still, at the end of the day a silly fantasy story that is VERY Japanese. The characters do feel a little bit more fleshed out than they do in the anime though, each chapter is written in a different characters voice and we find out a little bit more about he characters when they were alive. Overall I think reading this is worth your time if you like the show.

Read the 2 Last Chapter of Vol. 5 if you finished the 24 Episode Animation Adaptation.

THIS is the NEXT Event after the last episode of Netflix, which is the backstory of the adventure of Spider and Sophia, together with the Demon Lord.

As we go on their journey, it is astonished on how the events are slowly making sense and how connected they are to each other. I also like how we get to know better the Spider, as well as the Demon Lord (who would thought that SHE IS ALCOHOLIC 😅)

What I like on the series is that there are still basic flow of "TYPICAL" Isekai plot, but it has a touched on 'What is Supposed Normal Reaction of Normal Being.'

P.s. I cannot believe that I finished this on One Day 😁

This was my favorite volume so far (つ≧▽≦)つ The story is this one focused on the present time, and mainly followed Kumokos path, but changed perspectives often, I really like how Merazophis was so well written, instead of being emotionless he has a lot of actually really emotion despite how he seemed a few volumes before, I also really like the small shorter chapters that followed the parallel minds. they were funny and still were important for the plot of the book, over all this series has never stopped serving and I'm so excited for the rest of it to get animated! (I'll watch the anime after reading the novel) (◕ᴗ◕✿) 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Biased because I watched the anime first

As the title says, I’m probably biased because I watched the anime first. What happened is there’s only 1 season of the anime and I wanted to know what happened afterwards. I already had buy-in from that.

The writing is the same style as the anime, as it should be since it’s the source material. I’d recommend that anyone who enjoys Ed the anime as I did pick this up.

I’m reading it on my kindle. It’s a quick read. Before you know it, it is over. So it’s at a sweet part where you get enough of a story but you also don’t feel like you’re slogging through anything.

I’ll start on the next one now. Enjoy.

We follow the group as they make their way to kingdom's capital where an important decision awaited Sophia. Feels like a return to form of earlier volumes where the perspective never shift to any other point in time. We follow the group's journey are regularly switched between different perspective, which I think is very beneficial for this style of writing that's heavy on characters' thoughts. Giving insight into the uneasy alliance. Overall the exposition did get heavy at time but the almost SOL elements and shifting perspective was very enjoyable. Though I'd love to see more development next volume.

I really enjoyed this novel. We get to see the inner thoughts of a fair few of the cast. It's a pleasure to see the issues they struggle with acting as a mirror to their personalities and increasing the investment I have in them. I think this novel really builds on the story as a whole because now it's not just about our MC and a few of the others in the present day, but about more people we've only seen for a bit before. I really like how Okina Baba gave them their own distinct personalities and approaches to life.

More Spidery Goodness

Honestly, I almost skipped this one; I absolutely hate the Hero and his party, and the constant back and forth time skips, but there's none of that in this volume.

Nothing but our spider heroine White, her followers, and the weird geezer.

Not much conflict in this one, but a lot of character development for pretty much all of the characters I like.

I hope this trend continues in volume seven.

Lots of new stuff and the start of how to raise your vampire. The illustration of making Sophia walk is both cute and nightmarish. The Ronandt chapters and expansion on his story are a great addition. It also seems like she remains an Arachne for longer than in the web novel (likely due to additional content), where it felt a bit rushed to me.

I really enjoyed this. Still a lot of fun and really excited that we got a lot more character stuff in this installment.

This feels more like a rest and interlude volume as it doesn’t really progress the overall plot as much as previous volumes, but it’s still entertaining and worth it as it progresses the main “bad” characters.

This is the first book that takes place after where the anime ends. It's less a continuation of the story, and more a character building volume. It fills in a few of the blanks between the two different time periods that the story has been told in so far. I liked it. It was a nice change from the norm.

Ok, maybe I'm just sliding into the new setup just fine. Vampire princess and demon lords as friends and underlings with just a bit of tension is just fine.

All in all, though, I'm just enjoying the natural progression of OP horribleness and magic mastery in a fantasy realm. What else do I really want?

Exactly.

Oh... and cute spiders are a massive bonus.

Whore for Kumo, asi que bueno...

Interesante todo el backstory de personajes que no habia tocado (y en el pasado), pone en relieve a nuestro otro grupo...

Mas enfocado en personajes que en combates, pero estuvo bien caracterizar mas a los PJs,esperando el proximo.

Really good

I'm actually pretty happy with this book. A little less action which I do miss but not bouncing around in the time line is nice. I liked how the story flowed as well and the hints about the overall story. Will read the next volume when it comes out.

Solid 4.5 stars!! This is my favorite light novel so far because the story isn't all over the place like it has been the last few novels, I hope they stick with this format. Also that illustration of Black was to die for.

Keep it going

Another book down and looking forward to the next one. It’s funny since my last review was mentioning how fast the author was developing the plot, this book really slowed it down. Still a fun series.

I am a huge fan of the manga and the anime. The only thing I'm peeved about is the fact that the manga has glossed over all of these different POVs to the point where I knew nothing of what was going on when I started reading the light novel where the manga drops off.

Fun and a little less hectic than the others. I enjoyed that the ending wasn't a crazy huge fight like the past ones. And the fact that there wasn't a whole bunch of time jumping made the book easier to read.

Great book love it!

I am in love with this story ever since I saw it was getting an anime adaptation. After the first episode I was hooked and decided to stray into the manga and light novel. I love the story and the fact I’m this far into it is a testament to how great it is.
