Belonging

Rate this book
Juliet Brizing thought her necklace was just a beloved heirloom which had once belonged to her great-grandmother – she was wrong.

Selling gin across the country led her to Illinois and a meeting with a billionaire, guaranteeing her a sales bonus to end her year on a high. He had three partners and all four seemed to love the gold pendant hanging from that necklace. How did they know so much about her and that pendant?

And why, when they told her they were all wolf shifters, did she not run a mile in the other direction? The Brotherhood of Zaan lost their alpha status due to the serious illness of one wolf and they need the necklace from Julia to get it back. Can Juliet be the talisman they need to achieve their aims? They need to earn the pendant – by being at her service, in every way.

Belonging is a steamy reverse harem, paranormal romance with four gorgeous billionaire wolf-shifters and one feisty, sexy leading lady.

I read the beginning of this and skimmed to the end. The writing was stilted and awkward, and it was really hard to connect with the characters and the story. The editing left something to be desired, with first person narratives occasionally switching to a "he" or "she", and missing spaces or other errors. To add insult to the injury, the sex scenes weren't even hot.

Frankly, I wouldn't waste your time on this one. The story is not compelling, the writing is very disconnecting, and the characters and their relationships are boring and unappealing. 2.5 stars.

DNF...skipped to end

I wish I could give this a better rating but I lost interest pretty quickly. Normally I don't nit-pick when reading cause grammatical errors are understand but obvious one (Michegan instead of Michigan) early in the book was a huge turn off and made this book seem less than ready for publishing. So, naturally, I skipped to the ending and again found myself disappointed. She's apparently (since I didn't read it, just skimmed) ends up with only one of guys. Reverse Harem is supposed to be about multiple love interest without choosing, at least the majority of the one's I've are. So, yeah, disappointing. In my opinion the author probably self published this and it doesn't seem anywhere near ready for publishing consumption. Again, just my opinion.

Needs fine tuning

The overall storyline was decent but definitely needs work. The creativity is there but the author needs to work on the execution. There were a lot of loose ends and unanswered questions in this book, in my opinion.

The idea behind these 4 shifters needing a woman with a certain pendant lacked the necessary details of the why and how. I was left confused about the dynamics of the pack, the shift from an alpha group to a beta group, and the ending.

I thought the pack consisted of 4 men but then 2 other names were thrown into a few scenes without really adding anything to the story. There wasn’t any explanation on how this pack works and the roles each of the members had.

I was under the impression that this pack needed the pendant in order to become an alpha pack again after losing it to Midar, but the pendant was only needed to cure Rob of cancer? And if they lost their alpha status to the other pack, what exactly does that mean for them? Obviously they still had their territory, so what did they lose other than a title?

Now the ending... I never felt as if she had a stronger relationship with one man over another. So the ending surprised me when she agreed to be with Rob. Does that mean she ultimately picked him over the others? There was never any mention during the book that she would need to pick one of the wolves so I was very surprised when the ending came.

The “steamy” scenes were quick and lukewarm. There wasn’t even a scene with Rob which is who she ultimately picked in the end.

Meh.

This book could have been a great series with the help of a co-author. Part of me hopes the author pulls this book and gets a co-author to help flesh it out and then release it again as a better version. It really felt like a rough outline.

The author tried to do to fit in so many ideas, that the character and the story ended up flat. There were so many issues with this book, that I wouldn’t recommend reading it. The only thing that kept it from being one star was that it kept me hoping it would get better, so I didn’t skip to the end.

So here’s how the issues break down for me:

1. Length - it was too short to truly cover the details enough to make it believable, everything felt rushed and under developed. The world building and character development were unrealistic and one dimensional. To fully cover the concepts behind the story, the author needed to simplify the story and ditch either the shifter with cancer plot or the Alpha verses beta pack plot, or keep all the plot lines and either triple the length it and/or split it into three books to focus one book on each issue that had to be over come before getting to Odin.

2. Proofreading - desperately needed an editor and more proof reading. As a horrible speller myself, I normally let it slide, but this was ridiculous. And the wrong word usage drove me nuts. Telekinesis instead of telepathy. Calling them wolves and then wolverines in the next sentence, it felt like the author didn’t realize these are two different species of animals.

3. Ending - WTF, I mean really. The book ends with one of the guys asking her marry him and be just his, her demanding they go talk it out as group, and then her talking it out conversation ends up being (and I’m paraphrasing here) “This guy needs a best man, who’s up for it?” And that’s it, the end of the book. No conversation, no figuring it out as a group, no epilogue. I mean WTF is that? This is supposed to be a reverse haram novel, but the ending makes the main character suddenly seem like a slut because now that she’s taken them all for one or more test drives, suddenly one of the guys tells her to marry him and him alone and she agrees?!?! How exactly is that going to work? I think part of what works about the reverse harem concept is that they do all share. The idea that a tight knit, wolf shifter pack could go from sharing a girl, to having just one of them marrying her is unbelievable. Unless they are disbanding the pack and going their separate ways, it’s not a workable solution. If the author wanted a 4 way love triangle (which probably has a name, but I’m not into geometry) then it shouldn’t have been titled as a Reverse Harem novel and they all should have kept their clothes on till the main character picked one man.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

My opinion

It was good. But I was expecting more alone time with Casey and more details with rob, more interaction with all of them. And the ending is clear and no clear at the same time. It was contradicting sometimes.

Impressive first book

I loved this book. As a first novel it is a home run. I can’t wait to read more of her work.

Meant to be a why choose but she chose one...

Okay so this book is said to be a reverse harem which is why choose. But at the end of the book she chooses to marry only one of the men! Thus making it not a reverse harem which is super misleading and upsetting.
