I haven’t read a Kylie Scott book in a while, and I forgot how much I love her writing! This book especially hit the spot for me. Forbidden love is my jam and I LOVE a good age gap!
Adele used to spend the summers with her dad, and while there, she became friends with his coworker/friend, Pete. Pete is 15 years older than Adele but they clicked. When Adele turned 18, she thought naturally she would be with Pete. She thought the feelings were mutual… but things were a bit misread.
Now it’s been 7 years and Adele is back for her dad’s wedding. This is the first time she’s been back since the ‘Pete incident’. Now she’s 25 and not so off limits, and the connection they shared as friends is still there, but there is another element in play. The element of attraction. As much as Pete wants to fight it and knows he should, it’s there.
Pete and Adele were smoking hot together. Seriously, it was off the charts! And the forbidden love just brought it up a notch. There were parts in the story that I wish would have went a little different, but overall, I really loved this one!
If you’re looking for a steamy forbidden love story with a feisty heroine and an older hero, this is the book for you!

Pete and Adele were smoking hot together. Seriously, it was off the charts! And the forbidden love just brought it up a notch. There were parts in the story that I wish would have went a little different, but overall, I really loved this one!
If you’re looking for a steamy forbidden love story with a feisty heroine and an older hero, this is the book for you!

Update 7/31: Finished the novel, still no bueno...
➳I finally got to finish it before release day, and it still gets me sad that I did not enjoy it as much as I wanted to. No matter what, the "chemistry" that many have found is not in it for me in this novel...
DNF REVIEW 7/26
➳This is my very first DNF of this year (surprised it has taken this long tbh) and my very first book by this author and I am highly disappointed...
➳As a virgin to the Kylie Scott writing, I was really excited to read this new upcoming novel because of how hooked I become on the synopsis... To my surprise, I was totally wrong and the following are the reasons why:
1. This is a forbidden romance, and my kink for forbidden romances are always high because I adore them. However, with Pete and Adele had no chemistry, no sparks flying... there just simply was no compatibility with their "romantic" banter. Which leads me to point number two...
2. There was no romance AT ALL! You know how you read alpha males that get possessive and jealous over their partners? (those are my weakness) Well, to me, I found those parts where Peter "tried" to act jealous and possessive over Adele, FORCED. No matter what scenario they were at, I found everything they did forced and unwanted.
3. Adele is such a confusing individual. One second she is an 18 year old who is "madly" in love with Peter, and the next she is a college bachelor graduate who has been hoping from one guy to the next. Now, DO NOT get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with testing the different fish in the water, but for me, no matter how Adele ended up describing her past "relationships" or "hook-ups," they just seemed as if she just gave it a shot for one moment and decided not to fight for that "relationships." Of course, as a fictional individual she is entitled to do as she pleases, but I just found her actions and feelings most of all, beyond, and utterly confusing in every retrospective.
4. Peter is described as this guy who has a mysterious past, does not let any women whom he dates get his wall fall and let his feelings flow besides Adele. He trusts her and has let her in, but after that incident that happened, he become this struggling individual that no matter what he would back away from Adele. I don't like that. NOT ONE BIT. I like my mystery and broody main male characters, but Peter is just so pathetic and very bad written.
And final point...
5. When they finally had an intimate moment, PETER HAD TO BE DRUNK?! Like, are you freaking kidding me?! He had to be under influence so he could finally touch her? And then once they finished ON THE KITCHEN FLOOR BY THE WAY, he gets up and leaves her... Thank god he had the AUDACITY of helping her get up from the floor. But he then just walked away as if nothing happened... DUDE! You have to be kidding me...
➳Anyways, because I did not finish this novel, I am not rating it to keep it fair. I am indeed reviewing it as I am entitled to do so. As mentioned, I am highly disappointed that there was so much hype coming from this novel and I ended up disappointing myself. For those wondering how far in I got, I was 74% through the novel and I just could NOT do it anymore. I just couldn't... it saddens me because I was excited to start a new author, I will definitely have to be careful and beware of Kylie's writing from now on. THIS IS MY OPINION, and I am NOT saying you should not read this novel...
➳I am just not going to be that individual who stands back and does not express her opinion. For those who follow my review, you all know how open I am with them, and this novel is no exception. I wish Kylie Scott the best of luck with this upcoming release, and hopefully others agree or disagree with me because I love to hear from everyone's feed back...

He reached out, taking hold of my hand. Our fingers curled around each other out of pure instinct. It was like drawing lines in the sand by the shoreline; waves just kept washing them away. Only my messy heart couldn’t take any more hits.
There are several different tropes to be found in this story – forbidden romance, May/December romance, second chance romance, and even a bit of enemies to lovers! While I still have a hard time finding the beginning of Peter and Adele’s friendship to be believable, I can’t deny that I got totally lost in their story. I loved Adele but disliked more than liked the character of Peter, and yet I still hoped that the two would somehow end up together.
Adele finds herself in a most uncomfortable situation. Her father sent her away when she was eighteen. She got caught with her top off while in the company of one of her father’s employees, Peter, who happened to be fifteen years older than her. Peter ended up getting punched in the face but Adele was able to smooth things over between the two men when she admitted that she had been coming on to Peter and he was an innocent victim. That day she lost her best friend and was sent packing to her mom. Adele met Peter when she was sixteen and while it seemed that he thought of her as a kid sister, she had developed a huge crush on him. They spent a lot of time together and he would even bring her on some of his dates. Peter and Adele shared many meaningful conversations about his family and his strained relationship with his father, but he never would let a woman that he dated get that close to him. It pretty much appeared that he had deep feelings for Adele and that’s why she came on to him.
Now, eight years later, Adele returns to her Father’s home because he’s about to get married, but since there isn’t any room in his house, she is staying in Peter’s guest room. This is the last place she wants to be. They haven’t spoken in all the years she has been gone and when she left their friendship had been ruined. From the moment they see each other again, Peter is sullen, moody, and rude. He’s still holding on to the anger over what happened when she was eighteen. I think back then, he was into Adele but couldn’t act on his feelings because of her age and that her father was his boss, and when he sees that she’s grown into a beautiful woman at twenty-five, he’s even more attracted to her. But Adele is still off limits because he’s now business partners with her father.
Peter runs hot and cold for most of the story but things eventually heat up between the two. He's never been able to have a committed relationship with a woman, and in the eight years that she’s been away, Adele has never had a relationship last for more than a few weeks. Is Adele going to be the woman who wins Peter’s heart? Or will they end up being just a summer fling?

4.5 Storm in a Teacup Stars ⭐
I loved this book, which is probably surprising with the mixed bag of reviews. This story was authentic and a perfect depiction of real love. The kind that is unavoidable, messy, hurtful yet utterly rewarding when it works out in your favour. It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time is what you'd expect if you hit on a much older man who happened to be your father's best friend. Bloody disastrous...
"I can’t believe you actually flashed him." I raised one shoulder.
“I’d had a few drinks. It seemed like a good idea at the time.”
Seven years of avoiding the unavoidable. Adele is back in Queensland for her father's wedding. And staying with his best friend Pete, the object of all her desires is going to be very interesting.
People always make young love seem like this wonderful thing. Something to be treasured. But the truth is, it sucks. Because of that first love, you just might get to spend the rest of your life looking for that person in others...
Once upon a time Adele worshipped Pete. As a 16 year old girl, he was the cool friend who always had time for her. But as the years passed, her teenage crush morphed into something uncontainable. And at 18, she put Pete in the worst possible position that ruined them.
Now Adele is back, and Pete's unhappy. The time passed hasn't made their situation better. All that's left is resentment. Except, Adele is no longer a child and she has done her penance. And she is calling him out on his shitty attitude, and the side glances when he thinks she's not looking.
Pete was awesome. All man, laidback and genuine. Except when forced into an impossible situation. In his mind, Adele had always been 'just a kid' he genuinely adored. Now coming to terms with her being a woman requires adjusting to. As for Adele, she's truly sorry but how does one rewrite the past? You can't.
“We’re finished, Pete. Our friendship or whatever the hell it is these days . . . It’s over, kaput, the end. Took me seven years, but tonight I finally wised up.”
“That so?”
“In the morning, I’m going to go home and fuck every available man I meet until one of them does it for me.” My smile felt jagged and horrible. It couldn’t have been pretty so see. “And then I won’t think about you anymore.”
I can't explain how much I enjoyed this. It was gut wrenching in places, sweet whilst reminiscing about the past and smouldering with their newfound intimacy. With and ending that sealed the deal, this was a fantastic and realistic forbidden age gap romance! 💙

I was nervous going into this book, I read some of the reviews and skimmed some of them and I will say, I actually enjoyed this one. However at times I struggled. Yes there is lots of drama in relation to the age difference and there is a lot of hidden feelings that really don’t get brought out. But this is where amazing writing makes up for it. This is all heroine POV and I was dying for the hero’s POV. I feel that could have helped sway me with connecting with him more.
Pete & Adele met under odd circumstances. She’s visiting her dad for the summer at the age of 16, he’s one of her father’s top employees, until he becomes Adele’s father’s business partner. Adele spends most of her summers with Pete. They are extremely close, best friends actually. No one ever crosses the line until Adele’s 18th Birthday celebration when Adele makes a move at Pete. Pete is completely taken back by it. So what happens?? They go seven years, yes 7 years with no communication until her father gets engaged and Adele has to go back to her father’s for the wedding, and guess where Adele has to stay..... Yes you got it, Pete’s and here is where the story begins
I don’t like giving much away in my reviews but if you love the forbidden love, okay with age difference, then you would love this one. I think the author did a wonderful job writing this story. The angst, the forbidden romance, the try to turn an eye kind of love. Pete is 15 years older than Adele and he’s one sexy man. I can see why Adele’s still carrying a torch years later for him. Their chemistry is hot, their passion is even hotter. The ups and downs of the relationship, the drama, the back and forth, the undecided- I do want, oops I don’t want got old but the way this story wrapped up—-I want more damn it!!!

ღ I’ve never read Kylie Scott before, & boy this book had me on the fence
: ➳This is supposed love story about younger women older man. Don’t get me wrong I don’t dislike those type books. I actual like them.
: ➳This book is divided up into when Adele was in her teenage year & now which is 7 years after that faithful night on Adele’s 18 birthday…
: ➳Adele used to spend the summers with her dad, & while there, she became friends with her father’s coworker/friend, Pete which was 15 years older than her…. of course, she thought naturally she would be with Pete. She thought the feelings were mutual…but she soon found out how wrong she was… The actual scene was somewhat hilarious at the birthday party if you really think about it
: ➳The “Now” of the book had me definitely laugh out loud. But I not completely sold on the parts where Adele is only 16-18-year-old section of the book. I really struggled with that part.
I didn't get their connection in the early stages of their friendship, it didn't really make much sense why a guy so much older than her would willing want to spend time with someone so much younger, I didn't feel any chemistry between them at all. Come-on wouldn’t you think this be odd too?

: ➳Make matters worse instead staying with her father & future step-mother, they had her staying with Pete….. you’d think after all that happen in the past her father would have some common sense

I didn't get their connection in the early stages of their friendship, it didn't really make much sense why a guy so much older than her would willing want to spend time with someone so much younger, I didn't feel any chemistry between them at all. Come-on wouldn’t you think this be odd too?

I don't even know how to write up this review, because it pains me to do this but I just didn't connect with these characters at all and that resulted in me not finishing this book.
Here are my reasons why:
Adele just came across so young and immature, I actually connected with her younger self instead of her at twenty five. Her inner musings were quirky but flighty, First thing I was going to do when I got back home was sleep with someone. Anyone. Just because it hadn't ever worked before didn't mean it wouldn't now.
In the morning, I'm going to go home and f#ck every available man I meet until one of them does it for me.
Pete supposedly was older (forty to be precise) but he actually came across even younger, I wanted to pull my hair out, Pete's character reminded me of rocky in his very first movies, one liner spat out angry responses which just annoyed and frustrated me. I needed more from him. And in this case I think this would've worked more for me if we got his POV also.

OH. MY. GOSH! There was not a single thing I didn't absolutely love about It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. It was a joy to read. A fun, steamy, feel good romance with whip-smart characters, amazing banter, laugh-out-loud moments, squeeze your heart angst, and a juicy, forbidden storyline that made my heart pitter-patter like mad. I just LOVED it!!! Totally devoured it. And boy, did I adore the age gap in this one. It worked sooooooo well, because it was so impeccably written. Sharp and fresh, smart and sassy, the quick hitting, dry humor had me rolling. Our characters, Pete and Adele, are the best. They steal your heart and keep it, their romance a wholly delicious treat from start to finish.
So what's the story about? The gist of it is: Adele's been in love with Pete, her father's business partner, since she was sixteen years old. She let him know about her feelings on her eighteenth birthday. And to say it didn't go well would be an understatement. It was an epic fail. She ends up back in Sydney brokenhearted. Seven years pass where Adele effectively avoids Pete and he avoids her as well. Unfortunately (or rather fortunately ;) ) that comes to an end when Adele's father decides to get re-married, which obviously summons her home. And of course, as fate would have it, Adele ends up having to shack up with Pete for that week because her Dad's place isn't available, and thus a second chance(ish) romance is born.
And it's delicious, downright yummy. Pete is a total alpha-hole. He can't even help his douchebaggery. The guy is an emotional mess. He drives you insane (in an amazing way) and you just want to love on him and smack him at the same time. Adele is total badass, a spitfire who's perfectly perfect for Pete. You can't help but love her. She weasels her way deep inside our hero, breaks down those walls, crawls under his skin, and drives him mad!! It's brilliant. I ABSOLUTELY loved it. Reading Pete and Adele together was a breath of fresh air. It was fun. They're so charming, so endearing. I honestly couldn't get enough of their story. Wickedly addicting, Kylie Scott truly delivers a well rounded romance, brimming with feels and MAJOR sexy times. It's so insanely good.
Overall, I couldn't put this novel down. I devoured every page and felt on top of the world when I finished reading. Kylie's an amazing writer, and you can't go wrong with It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time It's laugh out loud, swoony goodness with lots of heart tugging moments of angst that make it great. Another great story from Kylie Scott, it's true that I love her books and I haven't read a book that I didn't enjoyed.This isn't an exception, I really liked this one, it was different and I was hooked from the first pages.
It Seemed like a Good Idea at the Time was a sexy,fun and slow burn romance.It has the vibes of a forbidden romance and there is also age gape between the couple and I like it a lot!
I loved Adele and Pete a lot and I like their relationship!They developed a friendship first and then something more.You can feel the attraction for each other.
If you are looking for a fast paced,fun and sexy read this is perfect!

It was beautiful, raw, and real, the perfect execution of an age-gap romance. I do love a good forbidden romance, and this one was right up my alley. However, I found it really hard to rate. Strangely, any rating between 3 and 5 stars seemed pretty accurate to me for some reason... So let me explain a little bit why.
This story follows Adele (25) who embarrassed herself on her eighteenth birthday by making a pass at her unrequited childhood crush Pete (15 years her senior), who also happened to be her father’s best friend and business partner. Fast forward 7 years and she is back home for her dad’s wedding. And forced to face Pete again. Adele is intent on just getting through the wedding and keeping things strictly polite, put things in the past and just move forward. But all it takes is seeing Pete again to bring back all those old feelings.
Adele was a spectacular character. I could easily see myself relating to her and my heart broke for her on many occasions… I loved her sass and quick-witted comments, she was blunt, with no filter. She tells it like it is and is an act-first-and-think-later-type.
Pete could be a swoon-worthy man, but also a complete jerk. He was grumpy, with a moody mouth. He refused to open up to anyone, held a grudge like nobody’s business and in comparison to Adele, acted very immature. He began to notice Adele as a woman and was extremely conflicted about it. He struggled throughout the whole story to come to terms with his own emotions… He couldn’t make up his mind, was all kinds of mixed signals. Hot and cold. He frustrated the life out of me with it sometimes. I just wanted to shake him or slap him or punch him in the balls so many times. It was like, dude, she knew what she wanted at 18 years old... and you still couldn’t figure it out years later?!
To say, Pete and Adele’s relationship was messy and complicated is an understatement. They were both uncertain. How to feel. How to act. How to communicate. How to let go. Mainly Pete had some emotional and attachment issues. It didn't help Pete or the story in general, that we've got only Adele's POV. I had to guess or was always wondering what Pete's take on some situations or actions was... Also I wish Pete's coming to terms with his feelings was explored more, the ending seemed a little bit abrupt to me. Nevertheless, their story was an emotional journey I really enjoyed. And I loved all the supporting characters in this story as well.

The push and pull led me here…
This is going to sound pretty harsh, but, I never planned to read It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. I’m all about supporting my fellow Aussies and their foray into the written word. I just know what I like to read, and if there’s a smidge of a chance I won’t like it, I generally avoid it so I don’t give a bad review. So, I read the blurb, sat and contemplated it for a while, then shoved it in my wish pile to deal with later. Then, I read Strong and there was a tease at the end. Now, I’m not normally into reading teasers but it was like my eyes couldn’t help themselves. I was on such a high from reading Strong that I NEEDED more Kylie Scott.
I was sucked in from the very first word of that tease and I quickly rushed to Amazon to buy my copy. Seriously, I think there was a little part of me that didn’t start it straight away so that it stayed in my library longer. Holy Shamoly!!! That cover is HOT!!! Do you know what made that cover even hotter? Knowing that the hero wasn’t a young whippersnapper. I’m far from old but I have to admit that the young hotties are not doing it for me anymore. This could be because my eldest is getting close to the young hottie age. AND THAT IS SO WRONG for me to even think of a hero who looks even remotely like him. I’m also more inclined to be attracted to a face and body that’s been around the block a time or two.
I’ve admitted that the blurb scared me off a wee bit and the cover drew me in a wee bit, so, I had this push and pull towards It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. A 15-year age gap and a heroine that’s felt the sting of rejection mixed with a liberal dose of humiliation. These are not appealing to me at the best of times. The thing is though, Kylie Scott’s writing appeals to me all the time. With all the pushing and pulling, I had to give it a go and I’m bloody glad I did.
Honestly, it was the way it was presented to me. I was absolutely stoked to find out that this little gem was set practically in my backyard. I LOVE the Sunshine Coast. Every year we spend two weeks relaxing at Kings Beach, Caloundra. I know the ocean pool, walk beside the Pandanus trees and sit on the exact beach that Adele visits. It is always a pleasure to recognise the sights mentioned in my reads. It made it even better because in 11 days I’M ON HOLIDAYS!!!
So, the biggie question…did this story work for me? Yes. I don’t think it’s that diabolical for a 25-year-old to fall for a 40-year-old. When she was 18…not so much. I’m so glad that Pete didn’t muddy it all by even contemplating it at that time. It just wasn’t a good idea at THAT time. I get that Adele could be a little OTT, opinionated and crazy, but her humour cracked me up. Now, Pete, he was a lot harder to love. Well, not so much harder to love but harder to love for Adele. The man is emotionally stunted. Luckily, he wakes up to himself and comes good.
The characters were interesting, the setting was magical, the steamy scenes were HOT and the storyline kept my attention from start to finish. Kylie Scott brings her “A” game to the table with this one. Not a lot of authors can distract me from Pete’s girlfriend parade that Adele gets to witness, a hero that’s scared to love, and a heroine that faces humiliation and survives. But, I was distracted. The girlfriend was inconsequential and didn’t even ping my radar as being an issue. Pete’s scared to love…but eventually realises he’s more scared to not love and have Adele. Now, poor Adele’s repeat humiliations…well, unfortunately, you act like a twit, you’ll get treated like a twit. Tough, I know, but she did survive.
I really enjoyed It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time and I’m so glad that the push and pull led me here. If you’re a fan of Kylie Scott, then I highly recommend giving this one a go.

Once you read a Kylie Scott Book, You can't help but love it. I have been a fan of Kylie Scott's books for a while now. She is the reason I feel in love with rock star romances... so, really..it's not a far fetched exaggeration when I say that I was eagerly waiting to read this book.
It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time is HOT! There really is no other word to describe a book that has everything we love:
Unrequited Love? Check!
Age Gap? Check!
Freaking hot older dude thats broody AF? Check!
A girl thats Sassy? cause that's the best way to describe Adele. Check!
Adele and Pete have an explosive, undeniable chemistry. Sure, There were parts in the book that didn't really sway me... like, come on! Like an older dude won't notice or realise when a younger girl has an obvious major crush on said older dude? hey! I love a age gap story but when the older guy acts all surprised AF? nah nah. You don't fool me mister! hahaha
Then, at times, there is the cliche flows in the story.... BUT BUT BUT BUT somehow, somewhere you, as a reader, really gets into the book and you freaking enjoy it. Plus, there is no denying the love and friendship they have from the very start.
The doubt and questioning comes after you've had a few hours of thinking... like I am doing right now. hahaha
I gave this book a 4 solid stars. Why you ask? Well, there is no denying that this book was a very enjoyable read with all the elements I love in a good contemporary romance. I loved the chemistry, I love the age gap factor, the angst and the banter between Adele and Pete....let's not forget the steamy scenes, ok?

4 'Best together' Stars!
It has been quite a while since my last read by Kylie Scott (I do believe my last one was one of her books in the Stage Dive series) but I was all over this book when I read it was a forbidden romance with age-gap between the main characters. I loooooove that! And as you can imagine by my rating, I really enjoyed It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. I loved how the story developed, the list of characters, the banter, the angst and emotions. And I surely adored Pete and Adele together, they do no lack of chemistry, that is for sure! This novel was really entertaining, sexy and taboo, so go and grab it right now!

Good Lord!!! When Kylie Scott decides to write forbidden she doesn't pull her punches. I absolutely loved It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time!!! This novel was so fantastic and sexy with an emotional punch that hit me right in the feels! It was honest, refreshing, real and so addicting. I could not put this down!!
In all honesty, this may be my favorite Kylie Scott novel to date! It was funny, sexy as hell and just the perfect story of two people on a journey where their past and present collide in a spectacular fashion. And ohhh the fireworks we saw!!!! Pete and Adele had fiery chemistry and their emotional connection was just as HOT. She was strong and sassy and the perfect match to his stoic and broody nature. I loved how the author effectively used flashbacks to showcase their growing friendship and connection leading up to the incident that broke them. It was beautifully written and such a perfect balance between then and now.
To label this novel just a taboo romance would not do its brilliance and outstanding emotional depth any justice. This was a heartfelt love story that goes beyond their age gap and connection with her father. It was without a doubt an intense love story with all the swoony moments that left me gasping for more, balanced with all the smart and witty banter we've come to expect from a Kylie Scott novel. I’m almost at a complete loss to express how much I absolutely loved this May-to-December romance. To me there’s absolutely nothing that’s taboo about the fifteen year age gap—actually, I love that there’s such a gap.
Pete and Adele were sorta thrown together back when Adele was in her teens. Spending the summers with a workaholic father didn’t bode well for any summer fun—that’s where Pete came in, starring as the overbearing, fun, older brother. But in Adele’s mind, Pete was more than a substitute older brother, he was the man she developed a massive crush on—a crush so big, that when she finally made her move, it was seven long years before she laid eyes on Pete again.
And Pete had only changed for the better. Maturity and age look damn good on him. At twenty-five, Adele’s no longer a little girl, she’s all woman, and she’s bound and determined to make him see her that way. Maybe. First Pete needs to get over himself and lose the attitude. Which makes for some interesting, stilted conversations.
But when he does, holy hell, do the sparks fly, panties hit the floor and all that lust and longing break loose. And I freaking L-O-V-E-D it! I loved how Adele stood right up for herself. Loved how she really didn’t let Pete get away with being an ass. Loved how once Pete finally gave in to all those long-buried feelings that he just couldn’t hold back any longer.
Honestly, this is now one of my favorite—if not favorite—books by Kylie Scott. It’s fun, flirty, snarky, swoony, sexy AF and a damn good read. It’s fantastic, actually! ~ Missy, 5 stars

At twenty-five, Adele’s no longer a little girl, she’s all woman, and she’s bound and determined to make him see her that way. Maybe. First Pete needs to get over himself and lose the attitude. Which makes for some interesting, stilted conversations.
But when he does, holy hell, do the sparks fly, panties hit the floor and all that lust and longing break loose. And I freaking L-O-V-E-D it! I loved how Adele stood right up for herself. Loved how she really didn’t let Pete get away with being an ass. Loved how once Pete finally gave in to all those long-buried feelings that he just couldn’t hold back any longer.
Honestly, this is now one of my favorite—if not favorite—books by Kylie Scott. It’s fun, flirty, snarky, swoony, sexy AF and a damn good read. It’s fantastic, actually! ~ Missy, 5 stars

Yep, this story had also a big age gap (fifteen years!!!) and even though that usually I don't really like such a big age gap, in a strange way, here it was working out very good!!!

The book was moving between the past and the present...
In the past, we witness a weird friendship to bloom between a 16year old girl and a 31 year old man...
Nope, believe me when i'm saying that it wasn't creepy at all!!!

Well, i liked both Adele and Pete, even though near to the end i was so disappointed by him....
Their connection was very strong, even though the years that had passed by... and they were fitting really good together...
Adele was a little bit wild and crazy and i loved her for that reason!!!! Her feelings for Pete was always there, since the day he met him, but the things were very difficult for them...

“You know, Pete, it was seven long years ago,” I said. Ranted. Whatever. “I behaved like a dumb kid and I’ve acknowledged that. I’ve apologized many, many times.”

"Both Pete and I were a bit of a mess. Maybe, just maybe, we'd make a whole together. Something good."
Pete from the other hand was a wonderful man, but boy... he was so immature at some point... Okay!!!! He was "scared", but damn, his actions were screaming immature!!!! Arrrr....
He wanted to bite the forbidden fruit, but he didn't want to accept the consequences and he made me mad for that reason, even though in the most part of the book, i liked him fiercely...
Of course, what i can not deny, it's the fact the scenes between them were sexy as hell and they made me hot and bothered....
"I do keep the women I'm involved with a certain distance. That's how I like it."
"Hm."
"Problem is, you suck at boundaries."
“Why should I stay, Pete?”

Witty and humorous, older man - younger woman, alternating timelines.
Forbidden and second chance Romance.
I know that not everybody loves this trope but this book was everything that I enjoy and have come to expect from Kylie Scott: witty banter, a smart and sassy heroine, a strong storyline and intelligent writing with interesting secondary characters.
I LOVED IT ❤ AND READ IT IN ONE SITTING.
(something that I don't do as much anymore but I just didn't want to put it down even for a minute).......so fun and enjoyable......a total feel good read.....loved and adored Adele, she was a breath of fresh air.....sassy and endearing........Pete, well......Pete was harder to fathom ......sullen and guarded at times......also emotionally unavailable......but ultimately a good guy beneath the surface.
Pete and Adele together....well let the firework show commence 🎆🎇✨.....but there were also numerous tender and sweet moments between them as well.

I’m honestly at a loss for words right now. I’m not new to forbidden romances or even Kylie Scott’s writing, but I think I set the bar a little too high for this book—especially given that kind of cover and blurb—that when I finally had the chance to devour the story, it fell tremendously short.
It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time is a slow burn kind of forbidden romance, which would’ve been completely fine, but I don’t think the build up truly reached its peak for me, nor was I able to fully connect with the characters at all. It just left me feeling so lost and torn over the whole thing.
Pete Gallagher was a huge ass almost all throughout the entire story. He’s this hot, brooding guy with emotional and attachment issues, but he took it a tad too far. There were times when I thought he was finally headed the right direction, but then he goes and backtracks on every step forward he’s already made. It was beyond frustrating and maddening and it made me want to strangle him so many times. By the time he tried to straighten up his act, it was a little too late for him to redeem himself. It just wasn’t enough. Regardless of the HEA, I still think this guy is an asshole who doesn’t deserve a speck of what he got in the end.
Adele Reid is fifteen years younger than Pete. I enjoyed the scenes when she was still a teenager and was best buds with him because it gave me a glimpse of the bond they were starting to form together. But almost a decade later—of not seeing nor talking to him—and it was like nothing changed. For a grown-up woman in her mid-twenties, her immaturity still showed on all levels—in the way she handled things with Pete or the way she took every emotional blow from him like it’s nothing because she was hopelessly and desperately in love with him. She should’ve dropped him like a hot potato the moment she got back home, booted his ass out and forgot all about him based on the way he’s treated her, but she just kept crawling right back to him.
I hate to say this, but the title was just that—it seemed like a good idea at the time when I laid my eyes on the drool-worthy cover, and read the captivating blurb that left me curious and wanting to know so much more about the book. But what I got instead were characters who lacked the sizzle and spark in their chemistry, and a plot that felt disjointed, underdeveloped and a little too forced for my taste.
Although that doesn’t mean I’m done with this author because so far, I really loved the ones I’ve read from her. Just not this one.

DNF at 45%
I tried so hard to love this book. I tried so haaaard to connect with this one. But I dislike it so much that I just couldn't take anymore.
The blurb was so promising. So is the title and the cover. The author is new to me so I have zero expectations, but I am so damn dissatisfied.
This is supposed to be a forbidden romance written in an alternating Then and Now. Then is when the heroine, Adele, was 18 and the hero, Pete, was fifteen years older, at 33. Now is seven years later when she's 25 and he's 40. I actually love forbidden romances. I love the excitement and the thrill and all the damn drama. This one has zero of that. I don't know if later in the book that happens, all I know is that they established zero chemistry for me so why should I wait?
Both of the main characters are tiring to read. I felt like I was reading a romance between two 16 year olds, even when they were supposed to be older. The voice of the book is definitely a MISS for me. For me it was childish and whiny and cringey most of the time.
This was supposed to be a one star but I bumped it up to give the benefit of the doubt that it gets better in the end.

We're in Australia. It's summer and very hot. ☼
Adele drove the looong way up the coast to her dad's wedding. She hasn't been home in seven years.
Back then - during her 18th birthday party - she kind of did something stupid that destroyed her relationship with her dad and her friendship with Pete. Pete was working for her dad back then and he was mega nice to her when they met for the first time when she just turned 16. And they became friends. Every time Adele visited her dad, Pete took her to the beach, the movies, and they talked about everything. Adele had a huge crush on Pete. Which Pete did not return. There wasn't anything creepy about their friendship. They were just best friends.
But now she's back. A pretty 25 year old woman. What hot 40 year old guy could resist that? Add in the complication that she's staying at his house because her adorable new step-mom turned her dad's house into wedding-central.
Let the fun times begin!!!!

Aww, that was adorable.
I wasn't a fan of the age difference. 15 years is a lot. 10 would've been enough for the story. I kind of have a hard limit at around 8-12 years. I don't like it when the guy is too much older.
But alas ... it was that way here. And Pete is an amazingly hot guy for his age! ☺☺☺
He's kind and sweet and grouchy, and he's also a bit scared of the whole situation. He doesn't want to disappoint Adele's dad and he's not doing serious anyway. He doesn't have the best idol in his own dad.
But Adele is not making it easy for poor Pete - prancing around in her bikini and talking about stuff that she shouldn't talk about with him ☺ ...
This was such a fun story about coming back home and getting that second chance, that never really was a first chance in the first place.☺
Adorable. Funny. Sweet. Very sparky and sexy. But also some serious moments.
I adored Adele & Pete. And Dad & Shanti & Adele's besties were great too. Great romance!
But ... oy. I could never live in Australia. First of all ... the HEAT! And then ... the creepy crawlies. How does Australia even have citizens living there?? HOW??? WHY???? RUN PEOPLE!! I'm sure Germany will take in a few more refugees!

While I enjoyed this, but I never revisit it because of all the flashbacks and Pete, who was not a great catch imho. If it weren't for Adele's strength of character, it would have been less stars.

I ended up really enjoying this one.
As usual I loved the witty dialogue and that the author never pushes MUs or OW/OM angst too far.
Adele is 25 and Pete is 40. They've know each other since she was a teen and hang out together pretty often. At first they were friends, but then as Adele got closer to 18, her feelings became more. So in a grand gesture to prove her love for Pete, she managed to wreck their friendship and felt obliged to leave town.
She lives in Sydney now and only comes home for her father's wedding to a woman (Shanti) she has yet to meet. Somehow she ends up staying at Pete's til the wedding, as he lives across the street in a house she helped design.
The story is sprinkled with brief flashbacks that illuminate the close friendship they shared back then. They fall back into that comfortable relationship almost against his will. He is angry and unfriendly but he can't seem to stay that way around her. She doesn't put up with his bullshit, and calls a spade a spade.
She has no plans to seduce him, but he still really turns her crank. And she's not been quietly pining since she was 18. Nope, she's had quite the healthy sex life with lots of hunky interesting guys, that she never allows to get too close. Kinda like Pete's relationship history. But he's none to happy to hear about hers...
I thought the little twist at the end was unnecessary and kinda took away from the HEA as it forced his hand. I do think he would have found his gonads eventually, but he was taking his own sweet time about it... The time they spent together was quite short though, so most of their relationship rested on a friendship that had been in limbo for 7 years.
Shanti was a wonderful side character with matchmaking tendencies, but
There's an epilogue that takes place just a few months later and was cute.

I hate and hate to shelved this book under DNF. I love Kylie Scott. Her work on dive band is marvelous especially Lead. Miss Scott is a queen of flirting and sexy banter. She creates characters that are just so perfect with her story.
But her latest book is just a major disappointment. The characters are just dry. No chemistry between Adele and Pete. Adele is... lost. She feisty but her connection with Pete is no where makes sense. The story that promising forbidden romance ends up a story about confusion and no chemistry.

This is a quick sweet and sexy read but is a hell of a lot frustrating to read to. 😬

Gran sorpresa con este libro. Una historia tremendamente dinámica, con unos personajes estupendos y con la idea muy clara sobre lo que es una historia erótica-romántica. El personaje femenino me ha parecido de lo mejor que he visto últimamente. Una mujer enamorada, sin filtro en su forma de hablar, que regresa al lugar de su desdicha. La forma de encarar el problema es magnífica y le da mil vuelta al protagonista masculino. Una mujer que ya no es la adolescente que se fue, pero que conserva todo lo que la hizo especial y que consigue, con mucho trabajo, el final que se merece.
Recomendable 100% y se lee sin descanso.

I don’t think you will ever understand how thoroughly this book wrecked me. I loved it.

Dies war mein erstes Buch der Autorin, und ich hatte ein bisschen Angst, weil ich inzwischen viele durchwachsene Meinungen zu dem Buch gelesen habe. Ich habe es dann praktisch in einem Rutsch durchgelesen 😅 Das sagt eigentlich schon alles, weil mir das eher selten passiert. Ich habe mich nämlich super gut unterhalten gefühlt.
Ich fand die Geschichte süß, das Setting in Australien hat mir total gut gefallen, und auch der Schreibstil war wirklich hübsch. Adele war eine richtig tolle Protagonistin, deren Humor ich absolut klasse fand ❤️ Das war sicher nicht meine letzte Geschichte von Kylie Scott 🤗

This book doesn't have the greatest of ratings but after reading Repeat, I needed more of Kylie Scott.
And...I can see why the ratings aren't higher. The setting is interesting...older man-younger woman but there's a little too much other stuff that gets in the way.
Adele's Dad is in construction and since her parents are divorced and live in different cities, when she comes to visit she's around her Dad is a lot. This means she's around Pete A LOT.
Pete likes the younger Adele and doesn't mind "watching" her. This evolves into a great friendship. Pete enjoys Adele's sarcasm and humor...something that doesn't change as she gets older.
Unfortunately for Adele, something happens on her eighteenth birthday that didn't go the way she thought so she basically stays away for seven years. (You get the gist of this from the blurb.)
Now she's back for her father's wedding...and back around Pete who for the most part hasn't changed one bit. He's angry with her that's for sure and the reason is so obvious except to Adele.
They slowly rekindle their friendship...and then more. Pete still has a lot of issues unfortunately.
I mostly enjoyed their romance. There are a lot of awkward situations (her poor Dad...lol!) and way too much page time spent describing Adele's clothing. I also think having Pete's POV would have made the story about ten times better.
Happily, the story ends really well even with the cliché. Thank goodness for her Dad's new wife, Shanti, she saved so many moments!

2 Not What I was Expecting Stars
This is purely my own opinion and clearly lots of people enjoyed this book but unfortunately , it didn’t work for me.
Adele spends her teenage years crushing on her Dad’s business colleague ( later business partner) , Pete. When she’s 18 she puts a move on him and it all goes horribly wrong. He is 15 years older than her and yet she has considered him her best friend. Her Father had been happy for his then 16yo daughter to hang out with his 31yo friend. Maybe it’s just me but ..... does no one else think that’s weird?
When Adele has to come back 7 years later after the awful night where her plan to seduce Pete went wrong, I felt like I was reading about two really immature characters. Their behaviour did not reflect their ages and honestly, Pete was the worst. I don’t know if , at times, the author was aiming for comedy and I just didn’t get it.
I didn’t feel I could connect with either character. I felt Adele’s father was an idiot and her step mother was a bit odd.
I did like Adele’s friends. And there was a decent ending , but overall this was not my kind of book.
I will continue to read this author’s work as I have thoroughly enjoyed a lot of her books. Just not this one.

Hmm... vielleicht auch eher 2.5 Sterne ✨
Ich habe die ganze Geschichte als Hörbuch bei Audible gehört und kann es wirklich empfehlen, die Sprecherin war ziemlich toll!
Allerdings war die eigentliche Geschichte leider nicht ganz so meins 😅 Ich würde mal sagen, dass man „Perfect Mistake“ lesen kann, aber nicht lesen muss.
Und ich möchte nochmal kurz erwähnen, dass im Klappentext ein ziemlich wichtiges Detail fehlt, nämlich dass es sich um Age Gap (Altersunterschied von etwa 15 Jahren) handelt.
Es war zum Teil etwas oberflächlich und die Chemie zwischen den beiden konnte mich auch nicht soo krass überzeugen. Ich glaube, hätte ich das Buch gelesen und nicht gehört, hätte ich es sogar zu 2 Sternen bewerten müssen 🙈

I really struggled on what to rate this book. You can even ask my bestie, Brie as we both had similar opinions.
Anyways, onto my review. It Seemed Like A Good Idea at the Time by Kylie Scott was one of those books that you are immediately drawn to by the alluring blurb and stunning cover, but once you start reading you wonder why you wanted to read it from the get go...
Firstly, we have Pete Gallagher who acted more like he was 25 then 40. I blame Alexa Riley for this "daddy" complex. They know how to write a thrilling and sexy age-gape romance effortlessly, even when it's over the top with the hero's possessive alpha ways.
Next up was Adele, constantly acting 18 instead of 25 with her antics. She was funny-I give her that, but she didn't mature at all in those seven years since she last saw Pete.
Lastly, there was no connection or spark between them at all. The sexy times were hot, but Pete's back and forth behavior overshadowed those. Add in some of the drama that later creeps in the story and you're just about done #awkward
Shanti, I feel was the saving grace throughout the story. She brought her words of wisdom and quirkiness, giving the story a bright spot.
Overall, It Seemed Like A Good Idea at the Time wasn't at all what I was expecting. I've been a fan of Kylie's since reading Lick and I'll continue reading her other books, but this novel didn't do it for me. #screwexpectationstheysuck
