Empowering

Quick read, the writing is ok, what I appreciated most was how it distinguished itself from other books on “empaths.” No overly religious or spiritual tone, and it avoids common recommendations to block out or retreat from the world and its perceived “attacks.” Instead, it suggests living one’s best life as a kind of proactive defense rather than a reactive one. Which honestly isn’t very ground breaking; it’s essentially just self care through the lens of emotional and energetic sensitivity.

Judith Orloff’s book has more specific exercises and meditations (which have been helpful) but it was rife with pseudoscience and what felt to me like passive aggressive recommended interactions. Maybe I’ll come to see that book differently in the future; for now, this book is what I needed to combat “wilting flower syndrome” and accept my perhaps higher than normal self care requirements.

Just the job

Wow what a book. I never realised how much of an empathetic person I am. Really good read, especially if you want to make a few positive changes in your life. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels they don’t fit in this world of greed, cruelty and negativity that is life and find a strategy that works for you.

While this book has some great teaching points, it was difficult to take seriously with its numerous grammatical errors! It really would be a better podcast or blog series. It falls flat as a book.
