there’s really not much i didn’t say about the first volume that doesn’t apply here as well. i was still ogling at the art and paneling on this volume, and the adaption of this story is top notch. the plot in this volume continues up until the beginning of the game, and some of the beats in this story were genuinely very sad or scary at times. i’m so happy that a manga exists for the witch’s and i wish there were more volumes!!

Your hair shines as brightly as the sun. And your eyes are glossy like leaves. How pretty.

The second and final volume of the manga offering some explanation to the horror game it is based on. Honestly even though I have not played the game myself I have a good feeling that if I were to play it would only be enhanced by this pair of creepy books about a little girl born into misfortune being cultivated into a monster that knows more than her share about sacrifices and doing what it takes to get what you desire.

Poor Viola is pulled along for the ride as Ellen befriends her and tangles her with lies and illusions leading up to what I can only assume is the beginning of the actual game. Whether you have played the game or just want to see some horror manga similar of the style of Ryukishi07 then I have a feeling you will enjoy both volumes of the series. After all happy endings are not always a way of life. :)

My favorite moment would probably have to be Ellen finally revealing the truth of the spell she was weaving to Viola and showing how twisted her true nature has become as she tries to put the finishing touches of despair on the girl. Things do not always work how we plan them though. :)

Considering this is a prequel to the game, 'The Witch's House,' I think it spoiled the big reveal that's coming at the end of the game. So, if you're a fan, this series is definitely for you because it set up all the spoilers and gave background to the events of the game.

As a casual reader, Ellen isn't likeable or sympathetic... but maybe that's the point? I wanted to feel something for this poor sick little girl who has never been able to run without pain or enjoy the sun on her face since she became a witch. However, this is all leading up to a body swap (fair enough plot-wise). Viola was stereotypically nice to a sick girl, but (despite what the demon-cat said) she did NOT deserve this fate.

I'm intrigued enough that I want to check out the game, which I suppose is a point in the manga's favor, but I don't know if the manga stood well enough on its own. 3/5

Continuing from the first volume, this volume of The Witch's House: The Diary of Ellen sets up the vital pieces—namely the introduction of Viola—before leaving the story ready to continue in the source material.
If you are only familiar with the original version of The Witch's House game from 2012, this manga will have lore expansions and explanatations you will not be familiar with (however the newest version of the game, The Witch's House MV, contains many of these expansions in the newest difficulty).

Kagesaki's art continues to be cute one panel, then wonderfully twisted the next, absolutely mirroring the frequent whiplashes in the source material. There are some absolutely gorgeous pages, which I would say are even more impressive than those in the first volume.

★★★★☆ 4/5. Nicely sets the stage for the tragedy of the Witch's House. Highly recommend reading these, and then giving the game a full playthrough for the full experience.

Thank you skychu0 for gifting this manga via my Throne wishlist!

The second and final volume in this series and this time we meet Viola. I am not really in the mood to write a long review for this volume as well, mostly because I just wasn't a fan of Ellen, who still thinks she is all good and no girl you are not you are the evil itself and yes, you are a bitch, but Viola also took the cake with her dumbness. Oh, people warned me about the woods. Oh, people are worried about me. But there is this magical house with a sweet girl who is hurting, I gotta go to her and love her forever. And when she says she is willing to swap bodies... well I knew poop was going to hit the fan soon. I was just rolling my eyes and telling her to run run run run and more run. The ending was OK-ish. Maybe I would have liked it more if I played the game? For now it just felt like there is more to come and we don't get it.

After reading the other reviews, I can get behind understanding this is a setup for the game, which I haven't played. The premise is interesting, but unless you're familiar with the source material, this will seem too open ended. I did enjoy the gut-punching twists and turns, and the layered twisting of the knife to drive the painful truth further and further in to destroy the psyche alongside the physical. It's like a super morbid game of chess. Another volume would've been nice for readers, especially since there's no reference to the game or an ad for the game or any mention whatsoever that, "Hey! If you want the rest of the story go here!" Or an epilogue. Something that keeps it going instead of such an abrupt ending.

So I will admit: I had a lot of expectations towards this duology. The premise is great, the art is interesting and the horror sounded promising. However, it was a very meh read for me. There was nothing really wrong with it, but also nothing really great. I do believe the topics it set out to explore were a bit lost in the middle of overly disperse plot points and I could not fully enjoy it. However, it had many things going for it, and would probably be a nice introduction to creepy witches if I have ever seen one. Sadly, it was not one of my favorites

“She's waiting for me to come and play. This is my house, after all. It's not as if it can kill me”.

Super cool prequel to the video game. I love that it gives you the full story without actually having to play the game, but it also make you want to go play the game. I love that they wrote this story as manga. And I say it again from my first review on volume 1; I hope that this will set off a chain reaction and games like Mad Father, IB, and so many more games become manga and novels. These games and story are really worth playing and reading.

I KNEW SOMETHING WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO BE PROVED RIGHT!!!
This book wasn't as gory as the first one and I still felt bad for Ellen. So when she finally gets a friend I was excited and wary. Their friendship was tricky, seeing as Ellen was just using Viola and Viola just stayed with Ellen out of pity. Regardless I was anticipating to see how the story was going to end and whether Ellen was going to get what she wanted or not.

I liked this volume more than the first one, when they finally introduced Viola.

Overall, I don’t know why I was expecting anything else aside from what I already know from the game. All the elements I’ve been missing from this prologue is already there. I don’t think it made any difference if I read this or not. I’d recommend playing it instead if you haven’t yet.

Witch Ellen befriends Viola, and we know this won't end well.

I ended up not being a fan of this duology - I'm feeling like maybe you have to play the video game it's based on to really appreciate it. There's some great dark artwork but very little plot and a lot of confusing art.

Will this story end positively? :/ A lot of evil, maybe 1 stars for both, but if the story continues and somehow evil stops being evil..then maybe I might be interested in reading more. Checked out both at same time without reading about beforehand.

It's all clear now. Everything I ever wondered. I'm so glad these were made to tell the rest of the story of the Witch's House.

Why did I read this!? It brought back so many memories of the game…. Seriously, I hated how this game (and manga) ended.

This books was absolutely gorgeous! I loved how it made me feel. I felt sick reading it, which is exactly what you want from a horror novel/manga. Easily giving this a 5/5 just for that.

Dark manga not for children or faint of heart. Protect your souls definitely gives me hoodoo vibes
