In the last volume of the Fourth Talisman series, the worlds of the living and the dead collide in a final confrontation that will leave Nocturne and Solis forever changed….

Three talismans adrift.
Two mad kings.
One poisonous crown.

As dark forces gather at the Rock of Ariamazes in Samarqand, Nazafareen discovers that there are worse places than the afterlife. The twisted creature pulling the Vatras’ strings is holed up in the deepest level of the Dominion—and only she has the power to follow him there, though at the potential cost of her own soul.

Prophecy claims the three daeva clans must unite to face their greatest enemy again, but two of the talismans have vanished and the third is a child more used to skulking in the shadows than leading an army. Meb the Mouse might be their last hope—if anyone bothers to take her seriously.

And within the confines of the Rock, a dying king makes a pact with the devil, setting in motion a chain of events that could spell doom for friends and foes alike.

WARNING: This book contains twists and turns, richly deserved comeuppances, shocking revelations, knock-down, drag-out fights, obsessive stalkers, some very nasty monsters…and, of course, true love.

Eight books, countless heart-stopping moments and so many characters to fall in love with, and the end is finally here.

I was prepared and I enjoyed what I got. Have to admit it felt a bit rushed at times, but with everything happening, I cannot even imagine how difficult wrapping it all up in a book must have been.

As a whole, Kat Ross rocks! Thank you for sharing this amazing world with us!

The gloves are off with this series conclusion to end all series conclusions. It's all led to this.

We've been with Darius and Nazafareen from the very beginning. We've watched them become bonded warriors, friends, lovers, strangers, partners. And everything that was set in motion then has finally come to a head.

The Vatras, the seemingly all-powerful daevas, able to wield the fire magic so seductive and dangerous to other daevas, have escaped The Kiln, the ultimate prison. And they want vengeance for having been banished to that unforgiving desert so many, many moons before. Their mad king, Gaius, is hungry for revenge. And he's brought a few extra powers-and creatures-with him this time.

It'll take everything our friends have this time to defeat him and return the realms to peace. Sacrifices will be made. Friends will be lost to finally vanquish this ultimate evil. The Four Talismans will need every ounce of strength and control they've gained in order to save the world from falling into chaos.

I've been a hardcore fan of this series since the very beginning, and I've been lucky enough to be an arc reviewer for the last few books. Never have I felt luckier to be able to do that than I do right now. Kat Ross pulled a major hat trick with this series conclusion. There's not much I can say without giving away what some people might consider spoilers, so I'll make it quick:

It's a roller coaster. It's an adventure. It's the ultimate conclusion. It's believable. It's so, so satisfying. The emotional growth of our characters is never more evident than it is here, in this volume. They'll fall apart. They'll come back together. Some bonds are broken, some are forged, some are forged anew.

I've become very attached to these characters over the last few years, and I'm so glad with how this turned out. I loved it. Kat's writing is always spot-on. The world building is top notch. You might even find yourself relating to characters you didn't, previously.

And best of all? It doesn't quite feel like the end.

I don't how to rate this books because sadly Goodreads has a maximum of 5 stars but right now I think I need the whole galaxy to just begin to describe how fantastic this book is.

Everything comes to and end. Inferno really is the final showdown and it's EPIC and AMAZING and--- did I say EPIC?

It is amazing to see the growth every single character experienced. (Some become wiser, some braver, some more self assured others...er more nuts)

It's hard to get into detail without spoiling anything...
Nazi & Darius really shine, you can really feel the depth of their bond, here more so than before (my loves, I will miss youuuuu!!).

Inferno is a SUBLIME BOOK, you've got thrilling ACTION (grand battle, included) , BADASS showdowns, HEARTBREAK, and TOO MANY FEELS!!

It is a SPECTACULAR and VERY SATISFYING CONCLUSION to one of the MOST ORIGINAL SERIES I have ever read.

I will never stop blessing the day when The Midnight Sea found its way into my hands. I feel extremely lucky to having been able to read and ARC.

If you don't like endings, don't worry... maybe and I say maybe there might be room for some more---Either that or it's just my wishful thinking.

This is the fifth book in a series. If you love to read fantasy - kings, maidens, magic, dragons, heroes — with a good mystery tossed in, then this series is perfect! Contains excellent descriptions of what is going on, the world of the story and the people; it was difficult to put the books down. I look forward to reading more by this writer.

I love this world, more than I can explain. After two separate series, 8 books and the addition of the Gaslamp Gothic series, I don’t even know how I’ll manage to let go.

The characters are all so strong, so well written and so completely developed that I love each and every one of them so much. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, even the villains have spots in my heart.

The plot, the story development and the entire world that has been created is to die for.

- I received this book free though Xpresso Book Tours.

Buckle up! Cause this is one crazy ride to the finish...

But wait! If this is your first time hearing about the Fourth Talisman Series, you are in the wrong place. This is the ending not the beginning. Go back and read my review of Nocturne, the first book in the series.

Light Spoilers Ahead (after all this is the last book in the series.)

After 8, count them 8 books with Nazafareen and Darius and 5 books on the world of Nocture/Solis we finally come to an end, and WHAT AN END! I must say after the way Nemesis ended I was kinda of worried. More than worried, I was sweating bullets! I couldn't wait to get my hands on Inferno.

However, it was absolutely worth the wait. I know that Kat Ross poured her heart into this book and it shows. The book is at times almost lyrical. The world building that has been so excellent to this point really brought everything in the book together.

The relationships between characters gave us so many satisfying moments throughout Inferno. Darius and Nazafareen have always had a great relationship, that although complicated at times, never left us questioning that they were OTP (one-true-pairing for those who don't know all the online 'ship talk. 😉) Their relationship takes several fun and satisfying turns in the book, but the relationships that really shine are several of the others. I've always loved the adult (as in mature not x-rated) relationship between Mina and Culach. Things got pretty interesting when Victor (Mina's ex) showed up, but even that relationship as complicated as it is and with all the literally crazy stuff Victor does it felt fulfilled in this story. Then there is the friendship between Meb and Culach. Both bringing out the best in each other. Culach helping Meb find the courage to become queen and Meb helping Culach find the courage to fight again despite his blindness and loss of elemental power.

It's just great stuff people. And really makes reading ALL the books worthwhile! I could go on and on because the relationships and the webs between characters have so much power in Inferno.

I will go on to one more relationship because it's also wonderfully adult and complicated and has a very interesting outcome in the book. Nico has at times been a villain and at times a hero, his relationship to Domitia is complicated because in the Kiln you don't make many friends. Throughout the series we see this relationship splinter as Nico came to better understand the world outside the Kiln. His betrayal of her wasn't a shock, as he knows her thirst for power would eventually lead to all of them in chains. But what is surprising is his reaction to seeing her again (and to how her father deals with her)... it's one of the more real moments in the crazy series of events that bring the book to a close. Time kind of freezes on these two friends as she lays dying and says... "Let go of my f***ing hand." Perfect.

There was not a relationship moment in the series that didn't lead to a pay off in Inferno. I haven't even scratched the surface... the Maenads, or Javid for instance, but before this review gets too long let me give you the...

Bottom Line:

Inferno is the pay off readers deserve. Go get this series and binge read it. It's an absolutely must-read fantasy series. Especially for readers who want some depth in the relationships and a new fantasy world setting.

-ARC kindly offered by Xpresso and author in exchange for an honest review-

I came to the conclusion of this book with tears in my eyes. Before starting to read I was well aware that it was the last book in the series and consequently that afterwards I would have to say goodbye to the characters that I have learned to love in these years. I felt an immense pain as if I were torn by the strength the children or the close friends. I knew that sooner or later the word END would finally arrive for the adventures of Naz and Darius but at this point I do not know how I will do without them.

After this rather dramatic premise - someone sure understands me - let's talk about the book. If I had to describe Inferno with a word I would say "explosive". No fuses, just a series of rather crackling events and a final with a bang. The Vatras are free from their prison and ready to take revenge but the talismans are not united and this could be the end of everything. I didn't think that the story could take even more dangerous folds but once again the author surprised me and added other exciting scenes and twists.

Although during the course of this series I made the acquaintance of new wonderful characters (little Meb <3), read many points of view and new loves, the numbers one for me remain Naz and Darius. I have followed their development with more interest and they have gone through so many that it's right that they finally have their happy ending. After the various battles and betrayals faced, they deserve to be able to be at peace.

Kat Ross has nothing to envy to the most famous fantasy writers. Her style is magnificent and from her first book she holds me in her grip. It was love at first sight and I followed her story with more than just interest, it was like I couldn't help it. Every year I waited for a novel of her with trepidation and, having finished that, I wanted more and more of it until the conclusion of the series came. I will miss this world and its characters, both good and bad, but I swear it will always hold a special place in my heart.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I have been hooked on this series since book one so I was more then ready to get my hands on this final installment. I was not disappointed. All the events are finally coming to a head as the final battle draws closer. We get answers to questions we've had for quite a while, shocking twists, and hidden secrets all blended together until you just cannot put it down. Ross has tested one incredible story that will blow your mind. A must read for fans of fantastic fantasy series. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

A worthy ending of this series! I loved it.
A lot of the story arcs were neatly wrapped up in this book and with just enough open to leave space for a new series (Pretty please, with sugar on top?)
If I should have to say anything negative it's that the storyline with Farumor (do I spell his name correctly?) was one of those that deserved a bit more attention. But hey.... then Kat would probably have needed another book.

To be concise : good storylines, well worked-out characters, the world 'lives' (not like GRRM or Robert Jordan, but enough to get you there).

Beautiful ending to beautiful story. I am pretty sorry that I have to say good bye to Fourth Element and Fourth Talisman series, but who know - some day I could reread them both. :)

Book full of actions and twists and turns. Some of them were predictable, some of them not. I was sobbing through first halve of the book because of Darius and Nazafareen. What happened and what Darius has done was simply beautiful.

Javid made me smile. Like, really smile. If I like any of side characters of this series, it is Javid for sure. Along with Culah, who has been through some shit, but he handled it and stayed as strong as possible in his conditions.

Meb...we all probably know what it is like to be a child to which adults do not listen and for which adults make decision claiming they know what is best for them. Once a mouse she needed her time to be brave enough and fight for herself. :)

I was afraid what would become from Victor after the events from previous book, but fortunately he found himself and was able to fight for his sons. Maybe he deserved his own happy ending, but I was not a big fan of this exact character in both, Fourth Element and Fourth Talisman series. So - I trully don´t care. :)

I think Thena and Domitia could stay death. There was no point to keep them alive to meet them in this last book. What was their purpose? Ok, Domitia got her punishment and she was able to "taste" what it is like to be collared and broken. Did she deserve it? Probably yes, but I saw no deeper point in it. And insane Thena? Sorry, but absolute lack of purpose from my POV.

What next? I think I will go for Nightmarked. Kat Ross´s book turned to be my coup of coffee and I am looking forward for new adventures. :)

Nocturne by Kat Ross is N in my A-Z Challenge of Fiction Titles. This is part of The Fourth Talisman series, which is a sequel to The Fourth Element Series, so as a quick recap, I reread the review I had written previously.

The book starts with Nazafareen being held in Nocturne after she has lost all her memories. She has been advised not to travel without being accompanied, but she is aware there is more going on than meets the eye, convinced that if she could regain her memories everything would fall into place. After stowing away aboard an air-ship, Nazafareen discovers the other lands are not all they seem.
As with the previous series by Kat Ross, I couldn't put these books down, and ended up buying the rest of the series: Solis, Monstrum, Nemesis, and Inferno.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot of these books, but it is another epic adventure mixing magic, religion, revenge, power, love and action.

Highly recommended.

A great ending to an amazing series!
Kat Ross is one of the best fantasy writers out there! Her gift to envision a story and bring the reader into that world is incredible! Each character is brought to life with such vivid clarity that one can spend endless hours reading without being aware of the passage of time. As the finale to this series, Inferno was simply amazing! Every facet was woven to full completion. A tapestry that leaves the reader breathless and unwilling to put the book aside once finished. If I were in an audience at the finale, I would be giving a standing ovation! Brilliant work!

Epic battle

This was a complicated book to write for sure, there were too many things to ramp up. And there was supposed to be an epic battle in the end. Overall that part was really good and I liked it a lot, but the book felt like half of it was just preparation for the battle. I think that impacted my impression.
I still want to say that the world here is great. Maybe it was not the ending I expected, but I do admire the story across all 8 books very much.

Good ending to an amazing series

I loved loved loved everything about this series. Strong female lead, multi dimensional characters, fully fleshed out worlds full of mystery and strife, magic and intrigue. So much to love and this was a great completer piece to end the story of Darius and nazafareen. Kay Ross is an amazing writer but this series was by far her best work. Excited to see what she has in store for us next.

Would be amazing if less bleak

I have to say I prefer the author's 4th element and gaslamp Gothic series, because this one is quite dark. Thankfully a reasonably happy ending in this last book, but not for everyone by a long shot. The world and the writing are fantastic but it's just a bit bleak for me

Inferno by Kat Ross is the final installment of the awesome Fourth Talisman series. Nazafareen chases Farrumohr into the depths of the Dominion. Darius makes a deal with the Drowned Lady, following after Nazafareen. At Samarqand, Shahak makes the mistake of opening the Rock to Gaius and his Vatra, putting all of the residents, including Javid and his family at risk. To save himself and those he cares about, Nicodemus takes on a terrible burden. It gives him better access to Gaius, but at great cost. As Gaius raises an army, can the talismans come together?

Like the previous books, Inferno follows multiple people, though fewer POVs, as the characters begin to come together again. Action condenses down to the Rock, in Samarqand. I loved seeing each of these characters we've followed through five books truly blossomed. I was touched to see the depths of Nico's loyalty and protectiveness. He really has become my favourite character! I still love Javid though. I'm so glad that things ended up well for these two- one dragged into this whole mess by accident, and the other misled into a crusade not his own.

War erupts, centered in Samarqand, with the talismans taking on Gaius and his Vatra, supplemented by monstrosities summoned by King Shahak. Other Vatra, not allied with Gaius, turn up, giving aid to the other daeva clans. They've no love for the man responsible for the harsh exile imposed on the entire Vatra clan.

I fell in love with this series, and read it before I'd ever heard of the preceding Fourth Element series. Now I can finally read that series! I didn't want to get confused, so I waited. What I really hope, though, is that maybe another series with the daevas is in the works. *fingers crossed*

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours and author Kat Ross for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review!

Find this review and more on my blog The Rest Is Still Unwritten!

Inferno is the fifth and final instalment in the Fourth Talisman series by Kat Ross and brings the saga to a fiery and eventful close with twists and turns and an action packed ending.

Nazafareen has recently discovered there are worse things than death and as dark forces approach the land of Samarqand, Nazafareen will have to navigate the twisted world of the Dominion in order to stop the being pulling the threads of the Vatras. Yet stopping Farrumohr is only the beginning and as different factions of daevas band together to make a stand against their fire wielding counterparts, the war between these opposing forces will either be won or lost together. Nazafareen, Darius and all their allies will need to fight as one to stop the Vatras King before he burns fire down on all they hold dear….

Reading Inferno is a bittersweet experience. It was an exciting story, as all Kat Ross novels are, but after eight books (The Fourth Element and The Fourth Talisman series) I was very sad to read the last of Nazafareen and Darius’s tale. Following them on their journeys has always been a pleasant and fascinating experience. Seeing foes become friends and different characters step and rise to prominence never fails to entertain.

Kat Ross continues to weave together an electric fantasy world that focuses on danger and excitement. Heroine Nazafareen continues to be a force to be reckoned with even in death while Darius, Culach and other characters continue their fight against the vatras in Inferno. I honestly have come to adore so many different individuals we have met throughout this series. Nazafareen and Darius are still largely our main characters but I’ve loved seeing Culach, Mina, Galen, Katrin, Meb, Nicodemous and so many others throughout the series.

Fast packed and very eventful, Inferno is told in the third person allowing for a detailed account of the circumstances our beloved characters find themselves in. There’s a lot going on within Inferno as Nazafareen and her allies fight to save the world from being destroyed by a vengeful and vicious Vatras leader.

Building to an epic battle where lives are guaranteed to be lost, Inferno does not disappoint. Featuring a final few chapters that were hopeful and uplifting as we saw the start of nothing but good things for many of the characters, Kat Ross ends her series wonderfully. I’ll definitely read whatever she releases next and urge readers to check out this now completed fantasy series—you won’t be disappointed.

The continuation of Nazafreen and Darius story from the first series ends here and I couldn't be more happy that everything got settled and the war with the Vastras was finally concluded.

There was a lot going on in Inferno, with everyone being separated all over the world and with Naz being dead and Darius following after her to bring her back, rounding up the talismans to fight against Gaius, secrets being revealed, Naz getting her memories back and the final battle going down. The different POVs took a while to get used, especially with the cliffhanger ending of Nemesis and not a chapter in Naz or Darius POV coming up-until a few chapters in, but afterwards, it was really interesting to see how each group of people got ready and rallied each other. Galen and Katrin, the Marakai and the other water daevas, Victor and Culach and Mina getting help from the daeva clans, Javid and Katsu and Leila joining forces with Nico to defeat Gaius, Thena making her move to go Samarqand where Gaius has "teamed up" with King Shahak and all hell breaks loose.

At the end when the battle happens, daevas of every clan alongside mortals and even Vatras who were against Gaius come together to fight and try to defeat him. After Naz defeated the Viper and his hold over Gaius lessened, meaning he could be killed as long as they destroy his crown talisman, with Naz having lost her Breaker ability (in exchange for her memories), she realizes that it has to be her who ultimately kills Gaius. The 3 talismans showed up with their allies and used their extraordinary powers to fight against the monsters from the Kiln, and those loyal to Gaius. Of course there were loses, but in the end Gaius was defeated and things were peaceful. Or rather the different clans hadn't started any wars against each other for the foreseeable future. I admit it was little confusing trying to keep up with all the new unique names that popped up that I hadn't gotten used to but my favorite characters showing up and not dying really made my day.

The ending was fitting, Naz and Darius get to have their happy ending in Solis with their bond, Meb is the Queen of the fleet, Culach and Mina get to explore the rest of the world, Nico and Atticus and Aelia are free, and everyone else gets to live how they want. Having read the first series The Fourth Element, and now finish with The Fourth Talisman series was a thrill ride, and I won't ever forget the diverse cast and the world of the daevas. I hope Kat Ross comes back to this world so I can see more o Naz and Darius.
