An Illustrated Guide to Self-Discipline: 50 Habits to More Self-Control, Success, and Satisfaction in Life

Discover 50 Illustrated Habits to Self-Discipline, Success, and Satisfaction in Life Written by bestselling personal development author Martin Meadows and illustrated by skilled artist Tamara Antonijevic, An Illustrated Guide to Self-Discipline is an entertaining short read covering 50 key habits to build more self-discipline, achieve more success, and become more satisfied with your life. Some of the habits described in the book - a key habit to rule them all (a must have if you want to implement other habits), - a simple habit to overcome procrastination (to train you to finally stop putting things off), - a powerful habit advocated by an American admiral (it will carry over to your entire life), - a valuable habit to keep your motivation levels high (learn how to be consistently inspired), - a little-known habit that will help you make big changes in life (its lack leads to inertia), - a smart habit to increase the chances of implementing other habits (to build a self-reinforcing network of habits), - a shortcut habit to achieve your goals more quickly (it’s simple, yet few people do it consciously). Habit by habit, you will begin to attract more self-discipline, success, and satisfaction in life. Get started now!

Martin Meadows is the pen name of an author who has dedicated his life to personal growth. He constantly reinvents himself by making drastic changes in his life. Over the years, he has: regularly fasted for over 40 hours, taught himself two foreign languages, lost over 30 pounds in 12 weeks, ran several businesses in various industries, took ice-cold showers and baths, lived on a small tropical island in a foreign country for several months, and wrote 400-page long novel's worth of short stories in one month.

Yet, self-torture is not his passion. Martin likes to test his boundaries to discover how far his comfort zone goes. His findings (based both on his personal experience and scientific studies) help him improve his life. If you're interested in pushing your limits and learning how to become the best version of yourself, you'll love Martin's works.

The name of the book says (almost) all: it is an illustrated guide on how to build self-discipline. It describes in a concise manner (one page of text per habit plus one page with a related illustration) 50 important habits to acquire to increase self-discipline. It is quick and enjoyable to read, and the beautiful illustrations are a plus to the text. A few habits won’t work for me, but I will, for sure, benefit from adopting a lot of others.

Of course, like any other self-help book, just reading it won’t magically transform you. You still must go from reading to action, but I think this guide can be a good travel companion.

It's a great book for younger adults and perhaps children. What I enjoyed the most is the relaxed layout of the book and the illustrations. After reading 500 - 800 page books with no images for the past few months, this type of book is much more pleasant on the eyes and the mind.

With that being said, it doesn't dive into any of the 50 habits too deeply. There is some repetition in the 50 habits. 2-3 have to do with habit building, tracking, stacking. 2-3 have to do with honesty, keeping your word, and maintaining trust. Majority of the concepts are taken from other books that better explain the concept (1 page of large text is hardly enough). Books like Never Give Up, The One Thing, Willpower, Power of Habit, and Letters to a Stoic. You could read these 5 books which are all relatively short and gain more from them than this book. But as I said, for children or as an introductory book, this one is great.

Diamonds discovered:
- For habits you really want to make part of your daily life, track them. Whether on a calendar or with checkmarks on paper. Make specific goals with time and intensity desired.
- Express gratitude daily. Consistent practice will retrain your mind to focus on what's good instead of what's wrong with life (as most of us are conditioned to do).
- Everytime you begin to complain, change your focus to something positive.
- Regularly practicing meditation will improve your ability to sustain concentration.
-Acknowledge your little wins everyday. You don't have to score huge wins to congratulate yourself for a job well done.
- Declutter; Identify which items contribute little to your life and eliminate them to a bare minimum.
- Create urgency by setting short deadlines. Research shows that a task will fill up the amount of time allotted to it.
- Store your knowledge. Keep a progress log where you jot down your observations and lessons, and revisit it regularly to learn more efficiently and avoid repeating the same mistakes.
- If you find yourself in an argument, pause for a second and ask yourself: "What's my goal here?", "Would I change my mind if somebody attacked me the same way".

A quick read with some great tips and cute illustrations. I went through and added a sticky note tabs to all the ones I thought I could start integrating into my life this year. Then I made a list of those things in my journal. Now I’m thinking through my morning, after work, and evening routines to see where I could easily include some baby steps towards each of these goals. Some are just small tweaks to habits I already have, some are being consistent with habits I want to have, and some are bigger goals that I could commit at least one minute to per day to start making them habits.

Always enjoy reading books by Martin Meadows. Always has great tips to help you in anything you want to accomplish. Sure you can read this stuff on the internet or think this is common knowledge, but he puts it all in one place and makes it so you understand it. And the illustrations in here are just a big bonus I love it.
