Kat Roberts has a plan. Love doesn’t fit into it.
Move to England.
Study at Cambridge.
Become a history professor.

See? No room for dating or love. Life is going exactly according to plan….until she met him one snowy night in an English pub. Tristan Kingsley, the future Earl of Pembroke. He’s as gorgeous as a god, funny, sweet, and oh-my-god that accent… With a chiseled jaw, bewitching eyes, and a voice as smooth as a glass of brandy…he’s every woman’s dream. He tempts Kat to leave her carefully laid plans behind as she falls head over tea kettle for this British playboy.

Tristan Kingsley went into the bar that night to avoid the duties of his future as a titled lord. When a gorgeous American girl kisses him on a dare from her friends, that kiss turns his world upside down. Oh, he’s used to having exactly what he wants: women, money, notoriety. But now he wants Kat. In his arms, in his bed—and the more time he spends with her, the more he wants her in his life. Tired of shallow, social climbing English debutantes, Tristan can’t get enough of his brilliant, sweet Yank.

But not everyone is happy with the situation. His father, the Earl of Pembroke, has other plans for Tristan, and getting rid of Kat is number one on the list. If you thought this was a fairytale of a girl finding her Prince—er, Earl, and living happily-ever-after…then prepare yourself for one heck of an American Revolution.

One of my favorite trope to read is forbidden romance and there are many sub-genres within this category that I won't read. And the stepbrother romance falls somewhere in the middle. Personally, I am not a big fan of this trope because it has been overly saturated recently in the book community and majority of them are just a hot mess. Well in the case of Lauren Smith's newest release, Forbidden, that is not the issue at all. This book was so well written and executed that it surprised me a bit on how good the storyline is. I want to pause and take a moment and say bravo to Lauren Smith for not writing a trope that could easily had me rolling my eyes.

#ForbiddenStepbrother

Since Forbidden is a three part of serial, I won't go into much detail about the book. But what I can tell you is that Ms. Smith has perfectly delivered a story that had me intrigued with the characters Kat and Tristan. Kat is a young American, who is off studying in Cambridge while her father is currently employed at a financial institution in London. Kat is smart, beautiful, and yet a naive 19 year old. She has always followed the rules and so when an opportunity presents itself to be bold and adventurous, Kat decides to live a little. She wants to experience a real kiss and meet a boy and experience a relationship. So on her 19th birthday, she decides to be brave and kiss a stranger, who had piqued her interest. And this kiss was the kind of kiss to stop traffic.

photo b4dc41571df4b63618046238f6ca30_zps28ran6vh.gif “It really was possible to lose yourself in someone’s eyes. Maybe the poets weren’t wrong about love at first sight. She didn’t love this man, but she was…captivated by him, which felt like love, in a strange sort of way.”

Tristan Kingsley was completely caught off guard when a beautiful American girl kisses him in the middle of a pub. And this kiss was different. It was hot, sexy, and had that palpable feeling that connected him to Kat. Normally, girls would be chasing Tristan but this time he had to court the girl because Kat is different. She doesn't want to be another notch on this playboy's bed, who happens to be the next upcoming Earl. As Tristan pursues Kat and gets to really know her, he sees a real relationship brewing between them. He doesn't care that she isn't of royalty and noble lineage but he sees a beautiful girl who loves literature and knowledge. He sees Kat. As Tristan and Kat finally embark on the first day as a couple, what happens when they discover that their parents are engaged? How will Kat react to the news that her father finally found love and that Tristan will be her new stepbrother?

photo b4dc41571df4b63618046238f6ca30_zps28ran6vh.gif “She was the girl who stayed at home and did her homework, went to bed early, got to class and just…worked. But here she was with Tristan, and he was opening up a new, darker side to her, one that felt older, more aware of the world and of what a man and woman could be together.”

As far as the ending of Forbidden, I knew the author is going to end this book with the step-sibling revelation but what I can say is that Ms. Smith did a terrific job introducing the characters and writing a crisp and concise story. She allowed readers to fully invest and see the real Kat and Tristan, who happened to meet and fall for each other. Yes, the whole revelation of that they could be step-siblings is the forbidden aspect but there was nothing forbidden as to how they met and fell for each other. Overall, I really enjoyed this first installment and can't wait to read the next book as to what awaits for them.

3.5 - "Tie me up, darling, and I'll spill all my secrets." Stars!

It’s no secret that I am not a fan of the whole Stepbrother romance phenomenon that seems to have gripped authors and readers alike recently, I have tried to read a few and most of them have either left me underwhelmed or completely nonplussed as to what the whole furore is about.

BUT, I do love the forbidden romance trope, and I think that is the bracket that I would drop this series into, because Lauren Smith has concentrated on the relationship between this couple and not the titillating, slightly no,no aspect that the whole step-siblings trope seems to be about at the moment.

Without posting spoilers, I want to be clear that this couple are both in their twenties, have no knowledge of the other until meeting by accident at a pub in Cambridge, and have no prior history. The Step-siblings aspect comes much later in the story. And that is why I enjoyed this one, it’s not filled with angst, or overplayed drama, it’s about a sexy British aristocrat, meeting and finding an unexpected connection with an American student.

I wish to have an adventure…

Tristan and Kat are pretty much the opposite of each other, one experienced, who lives life to the fullest, whilst dealing with unimaginable pressure to conform and fit in line with familial duty, the other sheltered, inexperienced, nervous and a little shy, more comfortable in the fictional world created in books and literature, than the actual real world. What transpires is a beautifully written, sexy adventure between two people coming together and discovering a lot of 'firsts' about themselves and each other.

"Makes a man hungry for more when a woman looks at him like that."

The good thing is the rest of the books in this series release in a relatively short time frame, so although the reader is left on the edge of the cliff at the end of Forbidden; Tristan and Kat’s story continues in Seduction Which is due for release on 9th February.

Freshman Kat Roberts has a chance encounter with the most gorgeous man in a Cambridge, England pub. Tristan Kingsley's also enchanted with her, ready to put his playboy behavior behind him. Kat's an American living in London with her father and she's attending University. Tristan is six years older and a member of the peerage. There's every reason for these two to stay miles apart from each other. And more to come.

I struggled through the first half of this story as it has one of my major pet peeves...lots of dialogue interrupted with pages of musings between responses. I had to do some serious skimming to avoid leaving this as a DNF. It's a style of storytelling that I consistently have a tough time working through.

I also didn't realize the heroine was only 19-years old so there were aspects that were just not mature enough for my tastes. However, this is a tale of two books...the first half and the second.

The first half was laborious for the reasons I stated above, not because it was poorly written or edited...just a difference in taste and style. The second half read more fluidly and was much more interesting. The ending, indeed, hooked me and provided more dimensions to the characters who earlier felt like caricatures. It ends on a cliffhanger, where I'd thought the book would start so I guess I'm in for the series.

I'm hoping the next two in the series continues the momentum developed after the first half of this story. It saved what I thought was going to be a disappointing read. And, I liked the American view of British culture and vernacular. It rang true.

'Forbidden' by Lauren Smith is the first book in the 'Her British Stepbrother' trilogy. This is the story of Tristan Kingsley and Kat Roberts. This book does end in a Cliffhanger in their story. Kat is an American girl going to College in London where her father just moved for work. Kat has actually been there for about three years in London and has started to feel safe in making friends. Before they moved so much that she didn't bother to make friends. In addition she has other issues with her mom up and leaving them. So she does have some issue with people leaving her. Tristan too has issue but with his father. His father is a Lord and Tristan will be inheriting the title so his father dictates Tristan's life. Tristan has a playboy reputation too. Kat is a 'good girl' who has never really had a boyfriend and although her father does have money its not as much as Tristan. Tristan knows from their first meeting that Kat is a different type of women. Tristan knows that he will actually have to work for a relationship with Kat. Kat is highly attracted to Tristan but knows he is a player and she doesn't want to get hurt by him. This story hooks you in pretty fast. I liked Kat and how she tried to stick to her feelings of not being hurt. I enjoyed watching Tristan trying to deal with his growing feelings...something he never had to do with a lady before. He has always been a love them and leave them type guy.

My Thoughts:

When I saw the book cover, and read the synopsis of Forbidden, I had to read it. While the first half of the book was slow for me, the second half flew by, and blew me away! I can't wait to get my hands on the second part of this serial, Seduction. It promises to be one very wild ride!

Katherine "Kat" Roberts is studying history at Cambridge. She lives a very lonely and closed off life, due to the fact that she is constantly moving with her father for his career. Kat's mother abandoned her at a young age, which has left her with emotional scars. When she's out with two of her good friends at a pub, she meets the gorgeous, charming, and sexy, Tristan Kingsley.

Sparks fly, and Tristan is determined to seduce Kat. He's never met a woman like her, and she fascinates him with her intelligence, depth, and insightfulness. However, complications arise when Kat has to battle her trust issues, due to Tristan's womanizing past. To top it off, as these two begin to flourish as a couple, they find out they are going to be step-siblings. How will they be together now.

Forbidden was sexy, sinfully decadent, and alluring. Tristan was the epitome of gorgeous, charming, tempting, and an experienced bad boy. As things heated up between Tristan and Kat, their story became a delight for the senses. It was erotic, sensual, and downright delicious to read. At the end we are left with a to-be-continued cliffhanger, and I am ready to continue Kat and Tristan's romance?

My Rating:

I give, Forbidden, by Lauren Smith 4 Delicious, Sultry, Temptation Filled Stars!

If you follow my reviews and reading preferences, then you know that I am a huge magnet to the taboo/forbidden. And I am also the most critical of it. The way I see it, if you're going to do it, then do it right. Taboo tropes in stories tend to get twitchy really really fast. And what I have found is that most authors will start with the intentions of writing a love story but what we end up getting is really just icky porn on paper. So altho I am attracted to the trope, I am ridiculously critical of it. That being said ... let's move on to Forbidden ...

I think we may have ourselves a winner here :) I state the word think because this is a trilogy, so it could get twitchy before it concludes, but so far, Lauren Smith has presented us with a really good start to a love story :)

Kat Roberts is a young girl who's been an introvert most of her life. At 19 years old, she's ready to throw caution to the wind and just live....., just like she's been reading in her romance novels (lol) Cue, our hero ... Tristan Kingsley, gorgeous, not shy, lives life by the seat of his pants ... basically, the total opposite of Kat. And you know what they say about opposites, right?! :)

I'm fairly certain this trilogy is going to rate very high with this reader. So far, Kat and Tristan have delightfully entertained me and I'm really looking forward to reading how they handle the inevitable news that they are actually connected in a familiar way ... Their chance meeting was funny and sexy and I've just enjoyed reading this short installment tremendously! So kudos to you Lauren Smith, for getting right :)

4 Stars – 3 Flames

Let me start by saying that I am NOT a, “I’m in love with my stepbrother” kind of person. It totally sounds creepy and just plain lame. That being said…Holy Mother of WTF did I just read? I’m hooked I tell you, HOOKED!!!

You know what I liked about this plot, besides the whole, stud muffin hot and steamy stuff? This girl, Kat, is awesome. Yes, she’s a virgin. Yes, she’s new to relationships because she hasn’t had a chance to settle down anywhere long enough. But what makes me love this girl is that she’s an avid reader and lover of classic novels. Not the typical Austin stuff, but the good stuff that unless you’re a true reader, you probably wouldn’t have even heard of the books. Not only does she love reading, she loves learning…about everything. She’s open about who she is and her feelings and is finally stepping out of her shell. And to top it off…she’s smart, strong and KNOWS what she’s getting herself in to.

Oh boy, lets talk about this hunk of a stud, Tristan. I mean, just the name alone should be an indication as to how freakin hawt and smexy this guy is. Yeah I said smexy. Have I mentioned that he’s a Brit and has that accent? Yep, I even imagined hearing him speak with it while I read. Mmmmm….I digress…He’s got way too much going for him and he knows it. Not that he’s happy about it, but he definitely uses what he’s got. Too bad he’s completely thrown off his axis by Kat. He’ll do just about anything to prove he can be the one for her. That is until they realize what us readers have known, just by reading the title. Yep…they are about to become related. Rut Roh!!!

So how do they handle this news? You’ll have to pick this up and find out for yourself. I’m not saying anything other than this. I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT ONE!!!!!!!

MINI REVIEW

This book defs reminded me of Fifty Shades of Grey, but the MCs are much younger in this one (FYI: 19 y/o female & 25 y/o male), and the setting takes place in England. I also liked the writing and humour in this a bit more.

Overall, this definitely had some cliches and tropes, but they were subtle aka they didn't make me gag. The ONLY THING that I didn't like was the insta-love, and usually I enjoy a little hint of it. But damn, two days in and this girl was willing to sacrifice her baby toes for a bit of D.

The flirty and vivacious vixen that manages to captivate Tristan Kingsley with one scorching kiss, in a crowed pub. Is far removed from the reality of the studious, introverted, innocence of Katherine Roberts. An American transplant in the middle of undergraduate studies at Cambridge. Kat's world has been one shaped by the pain of her mother's abandonment, and the responsibility that she feels toward her father.
Never does it occur to Kat that the kiss shared with her tall, darkly handsome, mystery man could and does have the same earth shattering effect on him that it does on her.

But it does.

And it's a feeling that Tristan is bound and determined to experience again.

This is a very engaging and captivating read.

The reason?

Authoress Lauren Smith's ability to play her characters details very close to the vest. Only showing readers enough to make them want to know more.
Making it quite clear that Tristan wants Kat, but leaving us quite in the dark as to the lengths that he is willing to go to win her.
Until he plays his quite sweet and surprisingly romantic hand.

As for Kat...
There is no doubt whatsoever about the feelings that she has for Tristan. The cards that she holds are the ones that answer the 'all in or fold' question when it comes to whether or not she is willing to risk both her body and her heart.

Though there are a great many sexual promises made to the virginal Kat by one very smitten Tristan. The emphasis of their relationship's foundation is one based in romance.
Tristan is careful to get to know Kat's likes and dislikes, wants, fears, and desires. There by establishing himself as a gentleman that both his lady, and their readers would definitely love to see play to win.

Things really do move quite fast in this read, but due to the depth of their emotional connection. There is certainly no shortage of jaw dropping, as connection leads to spark, and spark leads to explosion by story's end.

Surprisingly, there is but one Joker to be found in this Royal Flush of a story. Tristan's promises of earth shattering sex. While the quality is definitely there...the quantity?
Not so much.
In the interest of not being a spoiler sport. I think Oliver said best. "Please sir, can I have some more?"

This is a very romantic versus sexy read. As the first book in a series, there is more than enough room for the afore mentioned more in the following book.

5 FORBIDDEN STARS!!

He's her first. He's her everything. He's her . . . stepbrother.

Kat has always been a good girl. She studies hard and never stays out too late. But when sitting in a pub on her birthday, she realizes she's a nineteen-year-old virgin who's never really lived. And she wants tonight to be the night that changes.

Then she sees him walk in. He's tall, dark, handsome, and straight out of her deepest fantasies. His voice makes her knees feel weak, and when he smiles, she imagines him doing wicked things to her in bed. From the look in his eyes, she knows he's imagining it too. So when he asks if he can walk her home, she hears herself whisper yes . . .

Tristan Kingsley is the incredibly hot British playboy, but for some reason once he’s got a taste of Kat, he can’t let go. When they first meet in a pub in Cambridge, Kat is looking for an adventure, and boy does Tristan give her that and so much more.

“The things I could do to you to make you purr, make you moan and beg… After being with me, no other man would satisfy you.”

The promise of being with a man like Tristan, both excites and scares Katherine, but she takes a chance. Everything seems to be perfect until a shock of meeting her father’s new fiancé sends both Kat and Tristan spiraling.

Can she be with her step-brother? Surely their romance can’t work? Or can it?

This is part 1 of the trilogy and I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens.

Been in a short stories kick for the moment. This was actually great enough for the shortness of it. It was packed with a lot of tension, chemistry, hotness and drama to feel me very satisfied with the small page count. Will definitely continue on with the series. Found the heroine and hero to be a very fun and spicy couple. Especially the heroine, having huge ambition and still being fun and flirty.

Tristan Kingston is working on his Master’s degree at Cambridge University. He has a very interesting family lineage and he is very attractive. Katherine or Kat is a first year undergraduate at another college at Cambridge University who has led a pretty sheltered life. She tends to work hard and keep mostly to herself because she and her father have moved around a lot for her father’s job. She starts extending herself more because she knows that she will be at Cambridge for at least 3 years. She has already made some great friends and now thinks maybe she might start dating someone when she sees Tristan for the first time. She is totally enamored of him as he is with her. But, Tristan has some really heavy things in his background that he is not necessarily keeping secret but, he doesn’t like to talk about them much. Tristan and Kat have hit it off pretty good but Kat still wants to protect her heart and Tristan has no clue what he is feeling because he has never experienced these feelings before.

Forbidden: Her British Stepbrother is a great story that takes the reader through the highs and lows of a relationship between two people that have never been in love and have things in their family lives that have greatly impacted their ability to have romantic relationships. Kat is a great character with lots of depth. The reader cannot help but like her and want the best for her. She is extremely bright, hard-working and loves books. What booklover wouldn’t love Kat? Tristan, despite his previous bad-boy ways draws the reader in with his bewildered attraction to Kat. If the reader did not sympathize so much with him they might get a good chuckle out of how confused he is at his own behavior. One thing I found very interesting is that 95% of the book is about their relationship and we learn about Kat’s father and Tristan’s mother but the poke in Tristan and Kat’s eyes, so-to-speak, does not occur until the very end giving the reader an additional chapter to see how the first meeting with the four of them goes and leaves the reader to pull out their hair as they wonder what happens next and when the next book is going to be released. Kat is an introvert, never letting anyone get too close. She has lost a good deal of her courage because her mother abandoned her and her father.
Kat has never had a physical relationship with a man and I think that makes her seem a bit surreal to me. I like it!
But as she settles into this new home, Cambridge, she decides that she has had enough of the hiding and playing it safe! She wants more!
Being a college student is a bit freeing as well.
What better day to start than her birthday? So she goes out with her friend and sees a man walk into the bar that makes her mouth go dry.

Tristan Kingsley, the next Earl of Pembroke, did not date. He is a classic "rake" sowing his wild oats as it were.
He was destined to marry another blue blood. By his father's decree, it would be arranged for him.
So he has been playing the field and not really caring about the women he sees.
Until he meets her!

Kat bravely takes charge the first time they meet and she couldn't help herself, she had to kiss him!
He is hooked from the moment their lips touch. Nothing and no one has ever made him feel like she does.
She feels the same but is more cautious.
The chase is on!

This book is WHITE HOT! The story, though, is so sweet. The way they can talk to each other and just be with each other without
all the normal angsty bs is so refreshing! Opening up is hard for both of them but they each feel very comfortable with the other.
If things were different for him, they may have a future, but he knows his father would never let him marry below his station.

They reluctantly part for Christmas, and meet up again all too soon!
This was a fantastic first int he series! I was glued to my tablet until I was finished!
The writing was superb, and I love the way Lauren Smith paints a scene.
One of my favorite authors! I've read the next book already and you will LOVE it as well!
My review will be coming soon on that one!
This one is a 5 star for me!

Initial impression of Forbidden where unfortunately, not favourable. I found both main characters exasperating, Tristan was completely douche-tastic as only the super rich, entitled, titled can be. While Kat spent so much time running hot and cold and hiding away from her desires, all I wanted to do was shake her.

That was until they wiggled their way underneath the barriers they both have in place and we gain insight into just how those barriers were created. A chance meeting where sparks fly and a deeper connection is surprisingly uncovered paves the way from a fast paced road of seduction.

I have to say knowing Tristan is going to be Kat’s stepbrother from the beginning (you need only look at the title) did detract from the emotional punch of the twist when it finally arrived; although the anticipation is hinted at through the narrative with the reader being privy to information not available to Kat and Tristan. Hence, the necessity for third person narrative to control the plot threads and build tension.

The plot delves into the expectations of high society and the archaic idea of marrying within your social standing. The pressure by both family and media who are more than happy to air your dirty laundry at any opportunity, all place stress on potential relationships. Add in issues on both sides stemming from lack of nurturing during their formative years and you can expect a lot of angst.

Just as things ramp up within the narrative tying plot threads together it ends rather abruptly, I was left staring at my kindle in disbelief. Seriously, you just cannot end a book there!!!!!!!!! Dammit I didn’t realise it was a serialisation – I freaking hate serialisation :( Now counting down to Seduction *sigh*

Kat Roberts has been all over the world, her father travels all the time, but for the first time, she’ll be able to stay put for a few years while she studies at Cambridge. She has never had any sort of real relationship, because she knew she’d have to move, but she has made a few friends already. While celebrating her nineteenth birthday at a local pub, Adonis walks in. Actually Tristan Kingsley who seems like God’s gift to womankind, at least that’s what everybody is whispering at the pub. Kat, against all odds, is so dazzled, that she just goes and talks to him, then kisses him. She is a virgin, not model material, but for some reason, she fascinates him.

Neither character acts as expected, and I found that refreshing; Kat and Tristan appear very different but they are much more alike than they could have thought. And the blossoming romance feels like it should, with its sense of wonder, awe, and wild passion. As the subtitle suggests, Kat and Tristan will have to face considerable hurdles, and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Forbidden, the first part of a three part serial by Lauren Smith, takes its readers on an emotional and sensual exploration. A cautious and solitary woman steps out of her comfort zone when tempted by a reckless bad boy. Past and present circumstances all point to the unobtainable, yet together the hero and heroine navigate their overpowering attraction knowing it is more than a casual fling. Fast paced, introspective and steamy Lauren Smith's writing is a voice like no other. Without a doubt book one of this author’s British Stepbrother serial will leave readers chomping at the bit for the next installment!

I loved Kat and Tristan! Kat is a 19 year old good girl and Tristan is the poster boy of a playboy. There is instant chemistry at first sight and I was basically sitting on the edge of my seat for some of the scenes. Kat is a character that I could not help but love and Tristan grew on me in that "over-the-top bad boy turned good for the good-girl" way. The writing was great and really made me feel like I was in the story watching it all happen, with very little writing errors to no writing errors so I was not pulled back from the story at all.

This was a great book but I need more...like now! I cannot wait for the next installment of this series!

Tristan is one passionate man, “you are… quite the most—” he panted against her mouth, “exquisite creature. All honey and fire…” He stole another deep, lingering kiss." He's quite cocky, "my massive ego? Trust me, it’s not my ego that’s oversized.” He chuckled. “How many men have you been with?” I liked this book, wasn't real impressed with the cliffhanger though, I'm hoping the second book comes out quick.

Forbidden was a great start to Her British Stepbrother series, and I really enjoyed reading the first part of Kat and Tristan's story. They were both very likable characters and quite mature for their ages. I loved Lauren Smith's writing style and that she wrote the story from both Kat and Tristan's POV. I also loved that it was set in England. I don't often read books that are set in different countries, so it was a nice change of scenery. Plus Tristan's British accent was beyond sexy! ;) Part one of Kat and Tristan's story was short and sweet, but had plenty of steam. I enjoyed getting to see their relationship begin, and even though I knew they were going to end up being stepsiblings, the ending still surprised me and left me craving for part two!

Hot!

Kat celebrating her BD in a local pub spies the handsome sexy Brit(Tristan) and can't take her eyes off him. Going up to the bar she siezes the chance to kiss him......a hot melting one that leaves them ready to explode. She leaves, he follows. He buys her a BD cake and plants another passionate kiss but Jane is not an easy lay and says goodnight. She is determined not to see him. He is equally determined to have her. Both discover that they can't stop thinking about each other and the passion between them. Both are wary of giving their hearts.....but the passion is just too intense to resist....and they share a night of wonderous passion only to be shocked by their unknown family connection.

A wonderful installment starting this sizzling series. The installments are not short reads but nice lengthly ones, shocking! But great, getting so tried of reading series that each installment are less than 50 pages and paying $2.99+ for each one! These were an amazing find! Well crafted with humor and passion, realistic people and wonderful detail.

Tristan is a man who knows what he wants. And he wants Kat in his bed. All he has to do is convince her they belong together . . .

Kat knows the connection she and Tristan share is special. Her British bad boy is too much of everything: too hot, too arrogant, too irresistible to stay away from. He's her addiction and one night with him isn't enough.

That's what hurts the most. They can't date, can't be a normal couple, not when their parents are getting married. Because now that she knows he's going to be her stepbrother, no one can ever find out what they've done . . .

I've read stepbrother novels. I've read a novel written by Lauren Smith and became an instafan then and there. Put both together and you get Forbidden, a Her British Stepbrother series, separated into a three agonizing part novella that made me want to scream in frustration and then jump in glee at how captivating and satisfying the storyline truly was as you kept reading along. That is, of course, until I realized that I faced another cliffhanger! Then I debated cursing Lauren Smith for leaving me wanting more and having to wait until March 8th, 2016 when Seduction, the second part of the series, will be released, or thanking her for beginning a new stepbrother series that I could dig my greedy little hands in and enjoy reading over and over again. The forbidden sexual chemistry between Kat and Tristan is simply decadent and as naughty as it may sound [and to all those who will think me really odd and twisted], I couldn't get enough of this couple as they tried to stay away from each other once their parents married. Lauren Smith is the type of author who is capable of bringing to life words written on paper easily for readers so they can enjoy and feel as though they are part of the story. She is an author that I've instantly added to my to be watched list and her novels, next in line to be added in my library and to my to be read list.

Oh my goodness... This was good! I enjoyed this from the beginning until the ending that came all too soon. However, before I continue, I just need explain that I am not on the Stepbrother romance bandwagon, so I was a tad hesitant to request this read from Netgalley. You see I've only read one other stepbrother novel which was Stepbrother Dearest by Penelope Ward and believed that was a rare find in this particular sub-genre. Thusly, I was quickly proven wrong when I read Forbidden by Lauren Smith.

Here we find Katherine “Kat” Roberts, an American college freshman, living with her father, who recently started working abroad in London. She is attending school in Cambridge and because she and her father had moved around so much, she had not formed any meaningful relationships up to this point of her life. So, since she will be in Cambridge for three years, she takes the plunge and try to forge some relationships with a bestie and a spare.

On the evening of her nineteenth birthday, the wind literally blows Tristan Kingsley into a tavern, where Kat, her bestie, and her spare are celebrating. His likeness is described with such detail that the words lifted right from the screen of my reader and transformed into what can be best described as hotness. From her first glimpse at this specimen, it was clear this chick didn't stand a chance. Tristan was a grad student at Cambridge, who was used to getting who he wanted, however he wanted, but when it came to Kat, he definitely had his work cut out for him. At one point I didn’t think he was going to bounce back from the rejection, but Kat forgave him and they were heading, yet again, in the right direction. He wooed her and she fell willingly, but apparently he wasn’t the only one wooing somebody. Apparently, Kat’s father was doing some wooing of his own, when he called her to say, that he had met someone and he and Kat would be spending the upcoming holidays with his new lady love.

I digress. Overall, this was a good and quick read that was good from the beginning to the end, as well as, being well-paced and written. The characters were all interesting and the story had some interesting twists and turns with a cliff hanger that will have you anxiously awaiting the second book of this series, Seduction. I can easily give this novel 5-stars and recommend that you add this to your “want to read” list on Goodreads and run out and read Forbidden by Lauren Smith on January 12,
2016.

I received this from the author through Net Gallery for an honest review. This makes the second book I have read of hers. I was so excited to hear she was bring out a step-brother book. I have a huge weakness for step-brother books. The taboo behind it is such a turn on. Something that seems so wrong but truth there is nothing wrong with it. The characters in this book were not raised as siblings and they were not blood related. They were two young hearts that had just found their way to each other to have the stumbling block of becoming step-siblings thrown in their way.

Katherine Roberts was out celebrating her 19th birthday. She was sort of a lost soul. Her father had moved around a lot so when it came to friends she did not have any, well until now. She was going to school in Cambridge and knew she would be there for a while. I loved the two friends she made. Lacy and Mark were really loyal friends and cared about her well-being. They would fight for her in a heartbeat if need be.

Tristan Kingsley I just loved his character. He was known for his playboy ways. The thing about Tristan is he never met a woman that truly interested him, well until he met Kat. He was in a way rebelling from his father and the title that one day he was expected to hold. He wanted to be able to live life without it being dictated on how he was going to live it. Tristan was destine to be the Earl of Pembroke. I did not get the feeling that his father truly cared about him which is sad. His father seemed to only care about his son living up to his obligations.

Tristan and Kat were perfect for each other. Both had only one parent that truly cared for them. Tristan wanted a woman that carried more about who he was as a person and not what title he held. Kat wanted a guy that could love her and appreciated life the way she did. Kat had a love for old books. When reading about Kat she was one I could not see with an e-reader. She loved the feel and the smell of an old book in her hand. She loved life and knew things should not be taken for granted because one day it might not be there. That was one thing Tristan loved about Kat.

It had to be a shock to find out the parents that they loved so much were getting married to each other. It had to feel like life was not fair. Things seemed to be going their way and now here it was being ripped from them. There had to be so many mixed feelings and emotions going on.

This is the first book in Kat and Tristan’s story. I cannot wait to see how things play out.

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: http://bookbriefs.net**Forbidden is the first in a new, new adult serial romance. Set at Cambridge university, I was first drawn to this series, before I even knew the name of the series. I am normally not one for future brother/stepsister trope books, but the main character completely won me over. So when I realized the series was called Her British Stepbrother, I was already knee deep in the story and totally engrossed. No way was I backing out. And boy am I ever glad that I didn't. I really enjoyed this story, and cannot wait to continue on with the serial.

Forbidden, and I presuming the entire series, is told in dual narrative between our two main characters, Kat and Tristan. Kat stole the show for me. I loved her personality. Forbidden is a decadent story, but through it all Kat shone through. Even though this was completely out of her normal persona, Author Lauren Smith did an excellent job placing Kat in this new situation and both making her seem completely like herself, and not out of place at all. That is not something easily accomplished. And then there is Tristan. What, oh what should I do with you Tristan? I had to respect his driven in his pursuit of Kat. He was certainly single minded, but he was also extremely thoughtful. He actually surprised me how much thought he put into wooing Kat in a way that she would appreciate. (That is always a big thumbs up from me.)

I probably will wait until the next two parts comes out so I can read them back to back, as that is my preferred method with serials, but I am really glad that I read this first book now because I am not sure that I would have picked up the series once they were all released and I saw that this was a new brother/stepbrother trope. And that would have been a shame, because I would have been missing out on a well written, and deliciously fun read.

Bottom line: if you love new adult romances set in college with smart characters and great writing, this is a good serial for you to check out. And if you are fans of hot British men, you will not be able to resist Tristan. Forbidden is a great read.

I love confident men who know who and what they want and aren’t afraid to make know their desires. Smart, sexy, confident, nice men need to exist in reality NOT in books. All the men out there get the memo, we need you here in reality. Now that my little rant is over, back to business at hand…my review of this totally awesome book. My one caveat, is that there is one whopper of a cliffhanger, so if cliffys aren’t the readers grove thang, then don’t read this book. However, if totally hot men, is what makes me (I mean you…you, you, you the reader), happy, then let’s move forward.

Kat and Tristan, they really are created for each other. They compliment, and complete each other. Kat is shy, repressed, and unsure about herself, while Tristan is bold, sensual and confident with himself and where he fits in within the world. He understands Kat on a basic level and wants to get to know her better. Kat is scared of how she feels toward Tristan and doesn’t understand the pull toward him.

Kat is much more sheltered, and naïve then Tristan. She has a different background then he does, and so these things shape the characters into what they need to be for the story. They each have their own histories and personal baggage that needs to be addressed, but together they can pull through and come out stronger.

I liked both Kat and Tristan. Kat is sweet, funny and smart. She has a spine of steel and isn’t a pushover. She’s also a nice character and has a good head on her shoulders. I like Tristan because, yes he’s smart, kind, and funny. He’s also deep, he has depth to his character. He has this way about him that’s cool and aloof, but every once in a while he reveals little nuggets into his inner thoughts and feelings, and he allows the reader to get to know him much more deeply and intimately. I love it when a character allows the reader to find out more about them.

Give this book a whirl, it’s really good. It’s fast paced, entertaining, and it’ll leave the reader panting for more. Believe me, I want more. Can’t wait for the next book.
