Even the dead can't be trusted. Serenity Walker's been in dire straits before, but things have gone from bad to worse, to hopeless. Stranded behind enemy lines in a wilderness poisoned by dark power, Serenity's out of options. With her magic stripped away and her weapons made useless, the rebel witch is every demon's prey. And the deadliest demon is her own. But there's more to fear than D'aej and his kind. Somewhere within herself, Serenity has stumbled on new memories. Memories that don't belong to her, but to the ancient, angry spirit at the heart of this cursed land. Hidden secrets overwhelm Serenity's mind, and lurking behind them, growing ever meaner, is a mad apparition that doesn't like the intrusion. If you stalked the night with the Night Angel Trilogy, set things ablaze with The Dresden Files, or followed the beam to the Dark Tower, you'll love this dark fantasy adventure. When she isn't visiting the worlds of immortals, demons, dragons and goblins, Brantwijn fills her time with artistic endeavors: sketching, painting, customizing My Little Ponies and sewing plushies for friends. She can't handle coffee unless there's enough cream and sugar to make it a milkshake, but try and sweeten her tea and she will never forgive you. She moonlights as a futon for four lazy cats, loves tabletop role-play games, and can spend hours watching Futurama, Claymore or Buffy the Vampire Slayer while she writes or draws.
In addition to her novels, Brantwijn has had several stories published in anthologies by Breathless Press, including the 2013 Crimson Anthology and 2014 Ravaged Anthology. She's also had a short story published in the Cleiss Press Big Book of Orgasm and the anthology Coming Together Through The Storm. She hopes to have several more tales to tell as time goes on. She has author pages on GoodReads and Amazon, and loves to see reader comments on her work. Her short stories occasionally pop up at Foreplay and Fangs, her blog at http://brantwijn.blogspot.com.
It's no secret that I'm a huge fangirl of Serenity Walker. She's my literary girl crush and she just keeps jumping from strength to strength. She isn't a character for everyone, i think some may read her as cantankerous but she's so...unique in that its refreshing. You may not agree with her at times, you may even outright want to choke her but damn does she make you feel! Ain't nothing contrived with her!
Our intrepid heroine finds herself battling a new darkness and like all her previous battles, she doesn't come out the same way she went in. But that's the absolute beauty of Serenity. She's unabashedly unapologetic and the risks she takes rarely leave her unscathed. The best part of Serenity's world is her journey.
I'm not big on giving spoilers away in my reviews so this won't be any different.
However, let's talk about you get if you invest in Brantwijn Serrah....quality. Magic. A landscape built of exquisite tragedy and painful beauty. You WILL find yourself holding your breath, both wanting resolution and yet dreading it because that's how emotionally invested you will become in her characters. Serenity is a complex character, a warrior who knows nothing BUT the fight, so I'm not sure she could ever live without some sort of conflict, if that makes sense. But that's what draws me to her.
If you're looking for lush worlds with drama, conflict, gritty characters with raw passions put in crazy situations with near insurmountable odds...then welcome Wayfarers. And buckle up..because this is where you leave your world..and enter Brantwijn's.
I am not ashamed to say that I am 100% hooked on The Dark Roads Saga and Shadowlands has made me beg for more from Brantwijin Serrah. Serenity and her friends are stuck in the Rachelor (demon lands) and they must find a way to escape. Serenity thinks she can somehow break the bond with D'aej and tries an alternative method. When she and Whit are captured by the harem, they must work together along with the other prisoners to break free to find Angel and Rook, if they aren't dead already. Strangely enough, Serenity is able to see Angel's memories, and relives them while in the cell. What could this mean and how does this fall into Serenity's fate?
