I didn't think the MMC and FMC made a good couple. Honestly, their relationship seemed to me like the "mistake we made due to circumstances that we really tried to make work, but just couldn't because we really aren't compatible and/or in love" type of relationship.
When romances feature an unplanned pregnancy as a plot point, it's important to develop the relationship in such a way that the reader believes the MMC and FMC ultimately are together because they are in love and not just because of the baby. This story didn't achieve that, as the characters didn't seem compatible at all and just seemed trapped by the situation.
This relationship is like the season one "wrong" relationship a main character of a drama finds herself in due to circumstances and while she's trying hard to make it work, she meets someone she truly connects with, which lays the foundation for season two. Season two, the season one relationship falls apart, as it was always going to do and the FMC's real love story begins. Another character would be introduced as the true love of the father of her child. All that to say, this book needs a sequel where the MMC and FMC realize they forced their relationship and aren't truly happy, they divorce and they both find their true loves.
I've read many unplanned pregnancy romances that developed the relationship in such a way that the romance was believable and the characters obviously belonged together. This was not that. Everything was difficult, there was a lack of chemistry and the characters made ridiculous decisions.
Cute short read Nikki's brother was Kevin's partner whom died out on a call. Nikki always had a crush on Kevin, but after her brothers death her and Kevin have a night together. They both were grieving. Kevin left after that one night blaming himself for the death of his partner and for not looking after Nikki. When he comes back to town Kevin finds that Nikki has changed and they both have a surprise from their one night together. A great friends to Lovers romance
Wow! I started reading Carly Phillips for the steamy romance, so when I started this book, this is not how it started. It's much more of a drama romance and much more real-life. This book touched me in so many ways. I felt for Nicole but could understand Kevin's POV. How they work through their situation is so tough. I feel so many can relate to their situation or know someone who has experienced it. Just wow.
I really enjoyed the banter and chemistry of Kevin and Nikki. I hated at the beginning Kevin was just trying to do right by Nikki vs. facing his real feelings for her. I loved the strong character of Nikki and how she was so independent.
Got a few chapters in and realized it's way too similar to Dare to Hold. I can already tell this is a back-n-forth of I love him and he's only with me out of obligation, yada yada yada. I'm over that.
Read on Radish. Kevin and Nikki have a lot to deal with and I loved Janine. She was so good for the two of them. He had to be so strong to make the changes she suggested. Great story!
