Billionaire venture capitalist Alex Drakos is in a great place in his life. He is days away from marrying his beloved African-American girlfriend, Kari Grant. He is weeks away from the grand opening of his brand-new hotel and casino. And he has agreed to a bittersweet reunion with his daughter after her release from prison, a daughter who had betrayed his trust one time too many. He feels life is finally his good fortune. But when people from his past are hellbent on settling scores and destroying his relationship with Kari, and when three governments declare him the ringleader of a conspiracy he didn’t know existed, he and Kari must fight friend and foe to reclaim his good name, and their own good life. In the fifth installment of the Alex Drakos Interracial Romantic Suspense series, Alex and Kari finally join as one, despite the challenges around them.

3.0⭐️ Of all the books in this series, as well as all the other books in her Sinatra, Gabrini and the President's girlfriend series, surprisingly, this is my least favorite. For some reason, the story just fell flat. I can't put my finger on exactly what the problem is with this particular book. Perhaps it was the retrospective prologue that put me off initially. I just don't know.
Nonetheless, there were portions of this book that I did enjoy. Namely, I loved the descriptions of the wedding decorations and the song Alex chose for Kari's walk down the staircase, You Make Me Feel Brand New (The Stylistics). The description of Kari's dress was magnificent, and all the interactions with the hair stylist, Laurent, were hilarious.
During the series, almost everyone, including Kari's friends, Lucinda and Faye, could not understand why Alex chose Kari--after all, she wasn't beautiful like they were. No, Kari was just the "cute girl next door" type. Why her? What makes Kari so special, when Alex could have any beautiful woman he wanted? Rather quite a perplexing conundrum to most observers.
I really like the message this book/Alex Drakos series conveys with respect to Kari's "lack of beauty" by societal standards. Unfortunately, people did not grasp the concept that beauty is not the most important attribute that a person extols and failed to comprehend the powerful allure of one's inner beauty and strength of character. During the wedding ceremony, as Kari walked down that staircase, Oz suddenly realized what attracted, his brother, Alex, to Kari; essentially, Alex's attraction to Kari had less to do with her looks, but had everything to do with her inherent grace, elegance and dignity. And, it was those attributes, rather than superficial qualities, that made Kari beautiful in Alex's eyes. What an awesome epiphany! (Maybe that's what draws me to beauty and the beast type themes).
Last, some editing problems were annoying, but not egregiously so.
I’m not sure what happened with this book, but it was worse than the first. Like, WHY can’t Alex hire a decent security team? He’s a whole billionaire! It shouldn’t be that difficult. Also, the storyline was all over the place and the characters lost traction and returned to being one dimensional. The biggest insult to injury is the caricature known as Laurent. Ms. Monroe, please meet gay men IRL and stop perpetuating foolishness. It was just wrong. Also, can you please stop having people knock Kari’s looks. It does not add anything to the series. The abrupt ending and etc also came off as sloppy. I’m not giving up on this series because I love Alex, Kari, Jordan, and Oz. Their friends are even awesome. I’m hoping the over the top moments can calm down so real character development can take place.
I enjoyed this book but I would really love if the author would stop talking about Kari’s looks. As written, Kari isn’t ugly more cute/sexy while Faye and Lucinda are apparently super model gorgeous. Which means she’s not ugly so stop writing about it.
No one could understand why Karena Grant won the heart and soul of the billionaire playboy industrialist, Alexio Drakos. Her looks were average at best but she not only managed to capture his attention but got him to ask her to marry him and she was NOT pregnant. She was the last person, they thought, including her good friends Faye and Lucinda, to ace that exam. Kari was the daughter of a drug dealer, her mother died when she was young, an unwed mother at fifteen, and a gangster's girlfriend at nineteen. Despite all of this, she still rose above it all. Alex knew why and so did Benny. They both saw the MORE she had. Alex saw that Kari had heart, she was kind and decent, intelligent, and she had his back no matter what. Why wouldn't he prefer this woman with integrity and courage, a woman who would prefer poverty to indecency? The real question was, why him, why would Kari want him? He was a bad man from a bad family. He could not even raise his kids right. That was the other thing he loved about Kari, was her love and dedication to her son Jordan. She took her job as a mother very seriously. To Kari, not only was he handsome but he treated her with more love and kindness than any man ever had in her life, and she brought out the best in Alex. His life as a bad man ended when Kari entered his life.
But his previous life would always come back to haunt him. He knew that his sins would find him and they did. His daughter Catherine Drakos was a prime example of his failure as a father. She was dead set on revenge and tried her best, even from prison, to exact that revenge. His sins as his father's fixer, also came back to not only take him out but Kari and Jordan too. But his love for both of them made him swear to protect them always. He had another chance at making his life good and right through Kari and Jordan and he was holding on to that with everything he could. Even Oz, his brother saw it.
Mallory wrote an excellent story with this book. It was well plotted and executed. As all of her books do, it had lots of action and drama. I loved the way she weaved Mick Sinatra in the story too, even Reno and Trina Gabrini made an appearance. It also looked into the background of Alex's fixer life, his relationship with his mother and brother, and why, with all of his success and money, he felt like a failure in life until he met Kari and her son. We saw just how much they love each other and why, despite all of the danger Alex's former life brought her, she felt that he was worth it. She knew exactly what she was signing up for, but she saw the good in Alex and so did Jordan. They both knew that no matter what was thrown at them, as long as they were together as a family, they could succeed. Despite all of their set backs, they made it to their HEA. But one main question remains. Where is Cate? I'm sure, she will resurface again. Great job as usual Mallory.
This is another Alex Drakos' book that is full of drama, intrigue, danger and secrets. Will Alex ever come completely clean with Kari about the things he's done in his past life? He knows that Jordan and Kari will often get the blowback.
The things that his daughter, Cate, implemented were implausible. Even with someone in prison handling things, how could she come up with money to pay everyone off? Yes, she was vicious but it's no way she could get away with the things she did in prison. Money couldn't keep her immune from prisoners with nothing to lose. How did she contact the killers once she got out of prison? She no longer had her contact person in prison. Yes, she was evil and was the daughter of a former mob boss, however she had no personal knowledge of contract killers. How did she access her trust fund to pay these people but had to fly commercial when she got out of prison? Most unbelievable was her getting the Prime Minister of Greece to protect her from her Dad? Alex knew she was behind the attempts on Kari's life and he also knew she would try to kill Jordan also. Why didn't he take action against her before she got away? Why not choose her rather than his Mom? They were both amoral, self-centered women with no souls.
It's one thing to have the ear of the Prime Minister of Greece and quite another to get Greece, Italy and the United States together to bring down Alex. He was a legitimate businessman in the U. S., wasn't he? And, to get the ICC, the International Criminal Court at the Hague, to be the party of record makes no sense. How his relationship with Mick started was comical at best. Mick took actions that he only took for family members - he didn't owe Alex that much. Who really was Alex? Was he a Tommy Gabrini or Mick Sinatra clone? Oz was portrayed as a poor imitation of Sal Gibrini. He was as funny and likeable also - nothing like the Oz we first met in previous books. Kari has more lives than a cat. Some of the actions were found in other Mallory Monroe's book - shielding herself with a dead body for one. The missile shot into a meeting Alex was having with other job bosses is reminiscent of Trevor and Mick. If he was a legitimate businessman in the U. S., how did he even know them? Jordan was as cute as ever with plenty of common sense for a fifteen year old.
This book started off with a bang and I stayed up all night reading it. I was disappointed with the ending. It just fizzled out.
I’m glad that Oz is the one who came through in the end. He’s a great guy. It would have been nice to read about the press conference. The reason I’m not giving it a 5 star is because the author left it open with the daughter. I gather that she’s going to get back at a later date. I disagree with Kari. Cate needs to die. Prison is not enough because she’s got money and smart. She could organize the hit from inside, shell do it again. Even more now that Jordan now has a claim to the fortune. I know the author is a bwwm specialist but I would like Oz to find someone else with grit. We need some diversity in that family. Last thing who needs friends like Faye and Lucinda. Very superficial women.
This book is another fast paced action packed, near death book for Alexio and Kari. Kari and Jordan are slowly getting introduced to the dangerous side of the life of a former Don with no end to enemies including his own daughter. Thank goodness for his brother Oz another former Don and his friend Mick Sinatra a current Don / Boss of All Bosses. Jordan was a welcome relief as he is also getting a taste of the lifestyle of the rich and famous and a strong male figure in his life. Kari needs new friends you get the feeling that her best friends are not really her friends at all. I look forward to book # 6 and reading more about Oz, Jordan and Kari becoming more involved in Alxio's life now that they are married
I read all five books in three days! I cannot say which was better, they were all fantastic! The Drako s family was meant to be! From the good to the bad Alex Nd Kari was a perfect couple, the Author matched the couple perfect, they fitted, even the don Jordan and the brother Oz, I loved all! And I know it will be a part 6, there is no way this was the end, too many unsettle characters, Oz, Benny, Faye, and Lucinda! But I love the Drakos family, I would be content in reading just about them as the main characters in any story line! I Love Alpha men, and the women they always end up up with have to be as strong as Kari! This series so far is a 10+ and so very hard to put down or I hate they ended until the next one! Waiting!
A Very Good and Suspenseful Interracial RomanticThriller
Alex Drakos 5: A Reunion, A Wedding, A Scandal (The Alex Drakos Romantic Suspense Series) is a very good and suspenseful interracial romantic thriller that earned a rating of five stars. I enjoyed reading this fast paced and exciting romance thriller about Alex Drakos and Karena Grant love story as they plan their wedding and opening of the Drakos. They have many obstacles to overcome before they get to a happy ending. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading very good romantic thrillers.
Another great job done by Malory Monroe. The love and connection between Alex and Kari is so strong and Alex’s protection of his family is so heart warming. There wasn’t a part in this book that caused you to doubt the love between the hero and heroine. Let’s not forget Oz lol he was quite funny in this book too. This book like I said earlier is another great job done by this author. I look forward to more from her
Each one gets better. I was hyped for this series and I have not been disappointed. I love how my favorite characters keep popping up, all interwoven together. I'm ready for the next book. I won't give away anything abt this book except to say the wedding was fabulous and I hope Laurent becomes a regular part of the supporting cast. Read the book and you will know who he is. 😊
Ok, so the name doesn't fit the story. I know and Mallory knows. The rest of you need to read it to find out why.😂😂😂 Mallory, I loved the Drakos. In the next installment, we need to find Oz a wide and Kari a set of twins😍 Alex needs that to correct the past. Great job on this installment, I loved it. I'm not going to give anything away. You nailed this one..
My my... What can I say? Mallory does it again. This was another jaw dropping episode of the rich and dangerous. Alex and Kari takes us for a ride. The action pack, twist and turns will keep your heart wanting more. Check out this latest installment of Alex Dragos and Kari, you won't be disappointed.
Another good read about the Drakos family and friends. Still connecting Mick, Reno and Trina in the story line. I hope this is not the end of Kari, Alex, Jordan, and Oz. I want more about the hotel, Faye, Benny, Lucinda and of course Cate. Put Cate away for good.
YO! Toward the end I was on the edge of my seat. KARENA is the epitome of a RIDE OR DIE! I know there has to be a 6th book with the mention or her family, and then there is that BITCH Cate. Although I have yet to read Ms Monroe’s other series(which will soon change). I am a little glad I started with ALEX DRAKOS. It was a good read.
That was an enjoyable series though, I don't think we've heard the last of the Drakos family. It seems that life for them would be quite boring after all of the events over the past 12 months or so. All in all, a worth while read (big problem still remains with the editing. 👎🏽)
I love this New group of "gangsters". They are exactly what they are and make no excuses. Can't wait for their next adventure. I love Oz too. He's a mess
Loved it! Alex is the man. He has become one of my favorite characters besides Reno. This book had me on edge with it’s high and lows points. It was a great read.
These always seem to have the same problems... The first problem and it seems to happen in all these, the author builds you up for a great fight or issue and it's over in one paragraph or page. It's such a waste of time to want to read about the action only for it to be a huge let down. The main problem is over with a couple sentences after going through the entire read. Four days of nothing the door opens twice and it's all over, what a waste. The second problem, not so much in this one, go figure, the problem is usually from the beginning. The prologue giving too much of the story away and leaves you feeling like you read the end of the book and didn't need to waste time reading it. Hopefully the author will do better but I doubt it this many stories in. Maybe it's just time to step away from these.
Who is this woman Mallory Monroe. Show yourself. Speak a word. Because I love the characters that's why I keep coming back for more literary abuse, but good lawd 5.99 a book we should get a series for free of our pick What creative modern author having any verbal imagination would say or make they're readers say see or read: "Well fitting jeans that highlighted his package " eeh ok?! But? "A package so thick and full i t looked like a bundle of joy"? How old is this woman? At times it seems like I'm watching an old movie from the 70's then the characters are using cell phones and Saying things like "Bumbling Rascal" or "Mighty" which makes me think of Big Mama from the movie Soul Food or "Smithereens"and not when being sarcastic! Who is this author?
A great read! I love the suspense, the drama and the beautiful wedding! Alex's daughter, Cate needs serious beat-down first off for being a racist, hateful individual! I really hope that she ends up back in jail and for life! She is terrible! On a positive note, I am glad that Alex is friends with the Sinatras and Gabrinis! I love the way that Mallory Monroe ties up the connections between the fellows (Alex, Mick and Reno) and I am looking forward to reading future stories of these families and future friendships that will truly grow! Whew! Mallory Monroe has done it again!
Loved this series. I could not put it down I read volume after volume I did not want it to end. Sometimes we find love when we are not even looking as In the case of Kari and Alex. It was a bit annoying when the author kept reiterating that Kari was not pretty. The moral of this story is that people fall in love with your heart and not necessarily your good looks. The sex was hot and the mystery had me hooked. Keep them coming I will definitely reading more from this author.
So much family corruption, lots of action, and chaos. I would love too see a new baby for the couple. Jordan Drakos sounds like an incredible hero. I would love to see him succeed without a repeat of Jimmy Mack or the Sinatra Joey and Charles youngest son.
Finally Alex and Kari got married. It was drama leading up until the wedding. Cate has got to be dealt with. It was nice seeing Reno and Mick in the book. Can't wait for the next one.
Well I must say it was anticlimactic. Worth reading but knowing the end result not sure if it was going to be long term or short. The writer tends to always make them short lived.
Another good read, it was good from the beginning to the end. Alex and Kara are so in love, and the wedding was so beautiful. The song,YOU Make Feel Brand New made me teary eyes
Great series. It was worth every cent! After each book i kept wondering how they wouldcontinue, because the endings were so good, but the next book always held surprise storylines,
Mallory Monroe can keep you engaged and entertained with anything she writes. This series is one of my favorites. Please purchase and read this book. You will not be disappointed
