This book took me a little while to get into but man once I did I really enjoyed it. I really liked Steeles development, and her introspection as a character, she felt like a real person, very complex and layered. I enjoyed way her and Aldair grow more open as they get to know each other and the way they talk to each other. I am excited to read the next one.
Wow! It is going to be so hard to describe how much I loved this story in so few words. This is the type of book I want all my friends to read, and then meet me for coffee so we can talk about it. A strong female character who is so capable and at the same time able to recognize her own vulnerability. Steele definitely doesn't need a man in her life and proves it. Throw in a loving family, a little bit of romance, magic, and a worthy cause to fight for? This book checks off on all the marks for me.
I know I love a book when there are passages I can't stop thinking about and scenes that I go back and reread over and over again. This book had me thinking about it for days and weeks after being done. I need more Steele and the gang!
Although there were a few scenes that could've been left out and exchanged for a few that weren't in the book, it was an overall good story. Steele and Aldair were charming, witty and brave; putting them together was like chocolate and peanut butter, the perfect pairing. The mystery, politics and various action scenes were well written, and the romance plot was the icing on the cake. Overall an enjoyable and fun read and I'm looking forward to their next book. :)
What an adventure! This book has it all: family, friends, magic, sword fights and a bit of romance. You really feel like you are present with the characters flying through the desert on a horse. Steele is a strong young woman who can handle anything on her own. Her relationships with the other characters are well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I can't wait for the next one!
