Marc is a South African-born dragon masquerading as an author, who loves writing about dragons and Africa, preferably both at the same time. He's the author of over 40 fantasy books in 5 languages including 10 rip-roaring dragon fantasy bestsellers.
His latest releases are Khyrial and the King, an absorbing Fantasy Romance and the hilarious epic fantasy Call me Dragon which won gold in the 2021 IPPY Book Awards for best Fantasy novel.
When he's not writing about Africa or dragons Marc can be found travelling to remote locations. He thinks there's nothing better than standing on a mountaintop wondering what lies over the next horizon.
I'd already read the Pygmy series and the first book of this series. So when this box set was offered, I snatched it up. I enjoyed it, although sometimes it did give me a headache....SO many unfamiliar names, SO many aspects of the Dragon World, and most of all--SO many types of Dragons! Maybe I should have read the other two series before now (Dragon Shifter and Dragonfriend). Regardless, I thought this was good.
There were words now and again that challenged my vocabulary, so I actually used the Kindle dictionary option. Always nice to learn a new word. I could have wished for less switching of POVs, because that did get irritating. Sometimes seemingly important things got lost in the shuffle. The ending, although satisfying, didn't address all the things that it could have. Seemed like the Author got anxious to end the series.
Lots of action, some light romance, some bloody scenes, no strong language--YA appropriate. Overall, a quite elaborate plot and an interesting Fantasy World. 3-3/4 Stars for me.
I just can't get enough of this author's books. He has such imagination, and his characters have to go through much heartache and loss, but also joys and friendships. Follow Aranya as she goes from young girl into adulthood and has to face challenges, fears, and supreme pain and loss. But she also makes so many friends and allies, and perseveres to become a leader and a beautiful soul. I love how we get to meet some of the characters from the Pygmy Dragon book. readers need to read the Dragonfriend books and the Pygmy Dragon books before reading this one.
