Mitsurou Kubo (久保 ミツロウ, Kubo Mitsurō) is a Japanese manga artist, writer, and radio personality born in Sasebo in 1975. She is known for writing on Yuri!!! on Ice, an anime series co-created with Sayo Yamamoto. Two of her manga have been released in English; Moteki by Vertical and Again!! by Kodansha USA. She and Mineko Nomachi have a radio program called Mitsurou Kubo and Mineko Nomachi's All Night Nippon.
I'm getting the feeling that this is one of those series where the creator found his original run unexpectedly extended and started vamping a bit to fill out the extra volumes. The mission to redeem the pep squad and baseball pitcher have been completed, but suddenly a minor character is pushed forward as a villain and the closing pages promise the start of a drama club arc. Mission creep has our time travelers needing to assist another down-on-its-luck school club? Oh.
Fortunately, the art remains good and the energy is high, with some exploration of the love triangle taking up the center of the book as our time-displaced protagonist goes on an awkward date with one of his romantic interests.
Who knew a couple of kisses could be so confusing? No sooner is one goal met than everything goes haywire. So much tension all the way around - and new goals as well. What if Kinichiro can change his own life for the better...by having a girlfriend? It's something he never considered on this do-over.
I loved the first 6 volumes of this manga. And I can't quite tell if this one was only ok because I read a really excellent manga right before it, or if I left too much time between volume 6 and volume 7 so that everything was kind of confusing? Or if I just really hate that one guy character that gets more screen time in this volume. Wow, I hate him so much I can't even remember his name. It starts with an "H" I know that much.
Anyway I am going to at least read the next volume and see where the theatre arc goes.
While I've pretty much enjoyed Again!! thus far, I have to say Volume 7 seems to be the weakest of the bunch. Maybe because it is setting up some new story arcs... or maybe because of the content of the actual volume just feeling 'off' to me. With 5 volumes to go in the series I imagine there will be some payoff if the story continues to build as the first half dozen volumes did.
Verdict: If you've liked the series don't quit yet, even if this one isn't quite up to par.
Pretty crazy. This wraps up things quite well all while starting a new arc. It was quite fluidly done but really strange too.
I honestly didn’t like how the girl was forcing herself onto Inamura. I think he just went with it because he didn’t know what it was like to be liked as a crush.
I will say this is slightly weaker than the last one as I felt there was too much drama going on and I'm not about the drama, I'm not that girl, but I think the ending really started to pick it up. I just want to see more friendship stuff with these people. Less romance. Even no romance.
If any of them actually sat down and had one serious conversation like half of the problems would be solved. The whole having knowledge of the future thing is starting to play a bigger role, which makes sense.
This series is still throwing surprizes out! I'm so interested to see where this story goes, who ends up with whom and whether or how the future changes.
Ships start sailing, and you start to realize that the story is continuing even with the primary plot (essentially?) resolved, which is more interesting than frustrating.
