October Revenge The Silver Foxes of Westminster book 6 by Merry Farmer
Finally we get the story of the very misunderstood Lord Mark Gatwick, is he a vilain or not? Mark Gatwick has been Shayles shadow, after years of silently putting up with Shayles ridicule he’s finaly got his revenge and testified and now Shayles is in prison where he belongs! He’s free to live life in peace, until Angelique LeClair shows up stating she’s his betrothed. Life for Mark got a whole lot more intresting!
Angelique LeClaire isn’t the typical young miss, she’s a force to be reckoned with, feisty, confident and doesn’t back down from a challenge. She’s also loyal to a fault and her loyalty and compassionate nature has Mark believing that he’s worthy of love.
This was the absolute best! Merry Farmer has woven an intricate plot full of angst and intrigue. Mark finally has redeemed himself, his story was tragic and he led a lonely life. He was a victim of emotional abuse, Shayles saw his vulnerability and loneliness and took advantage. Angelique was exactly what he needed. This was so nicely done, I loved the twist of the female character coming to the rescue of her man. I highly recommend reading the whole series. Although this can be read as a stand alone.
I recieved a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
So there are a few authors I read that I call my “go to” authors. Merry Farmer is one of those authors. I have read all my "regular read" authors new releases and looking for more to read until the next group of new releases come out. Nothing against not calling her one of my “regular authors” because I really enjoy her books and always get a good read. I just picked up her books way later than some of the other authors I read. I like to know I have some good authors to fall back on and also I can actually read a whole series back to back and not have to wait in-between each new release within the series. This is actually my 14th book by her. I read her the first time when she wrote Second Chance Manor series that she wrote with Scarlett Scott and Caroline Lee.
I think this was my favorite so far. I loved Angelica and Mark. I never realized what Mark went through. I don't cry or choke up much reading these stories but this one was really got me. WOW so impactful. Loved it.
Appearances are often deceptive. Two people, both with a past best forgotten but really no way to do so, come together in this dark tale of revenge and striving for peace. The past is threating to come back to life for Mark, the Earl of Gatwick. Having helped in sentencing a man to prison due to crimes he had knowledge, the blackguard is about to be released and knows he will seek vengeance on him. Mark feels trapped without many options. But when fate, in the form of Angelica comes knocking at his door, he is stunned at who she is and what she wants. Angelica has found out that in order for her to inherit the money that was left to her, she had to travel to England and marry a distant cousin, who happens to be Mark! What? Yes, she grew up in Louisiana with many prejudices thrown her way and is determined to convince Mark to marry her. Merry Farmer creates characters that almost speak to me with their emotions and the storyline is one that deals with several issues that are not often addressed in stories. Mark and Angelica both needed healing and as I turned the pages I could only hope they could find their way to a happy ending. Do not miss the book and all in the Silver Foxes of Westminster series!
Angelica LeClair is the type of heroine I love....she can kick a**!! Having gone through a near rape situation, she's learned to defend herself and she's exactly what Lord Mark Gatwick needs in his life but little does he realize it when she first shows up on his doorstep telling him they need to marry!
Mark is a very different type of hero we usually see in historical romances, seeming very weak minded and afraid of his own shadow. Don't worry, though, he does redeem himself:) My heart went out to him and everything he's gone through since his father died when he was 18 years old and he got involved with the sadistic Lord Theodore Shayles.
Angelica helps him get his courage back and fight for what is rightly his, as well as slay the demons that are always hovering over him and as well make him realize that he has the right to be happy and be loved.

This story has strong engaging characters, heart wrenching twists and turns which keeps you turning page after page. He must come to terms with things in the past aren't as he remembers to find his present and future. Angelica is a strong women who falls in love with Mark and breaks down his defensive walls. This has some steam. My free opinion. Thanks.
Lord Mark Pearson, the Earl of Gatwick, has been known for years as the best friend of notorious villain Lord Theodore Shayles. For the past 25 years Mark has found himself under Shayles' thumb and not known how to escape. Now he's finally executed revenge on Shayles for a nightmarish event Shayles perpetrated over 20 years ago and which still haunts Mark. He hopes to finally attain the peace he's longed for his entire life with Shayles now imprisoned but with him threatening Mark's life upon his release, any peace seems likely to be short-lived.
Growing up in New Orleans as the daughter of a white woman and a black man, Angelica is no stranger to challenges. But even she is shocked to learn that in order to receive her inheritance from her adopted grandfather, one that will save her from penury, she must go to England and marry his great nephew, whom she's never met. Angelica has learned to be wary of men, but she is stronger than most women and determined never to be helpless again. She will put her fears aside and focus on the future, which means persuading Mark to marry her.
Mark has barely even looked at a woman in nearly 25 years so he's shocked and rather appalled by his body's reaction to Angelica, but he's also pleasantly surprised when she notices his art and doesn't see him as Shayles' lackey. He doesn't want a wife but agrees to marry her in order to keep his home as per the stipulations of his great uncle's will.
Angelica immediately recognizes that something is dreadfully wrong with Mark and is amazed by her genuine curiosity about him. When Shayles learns about Angelica, he threatens her in addition to his threats on Mark's life and Mark must quickly find a way to leave his fears behind in order to protect the woman he's rapidly fallen in love with.
Mark was a very different sort of hero. He got caught up in the wrong crowd at a young age when he was vulnerable after his father's death and could never quite escape. He was much older an more vulnerable than the usual in this genre and Angelica was much stronger than is typical. It is she who brings Mark out of himself a bit and he begins to be overwhelmed by emotions. He's what I would normally consider to be a weak hero and yet I liked him. We have a truly insane and quite formidable villain here, who could've been handled better by the hero, but the fact that our heroine is the first one willing to fight in defense of the hero makes this a unique story as well. The heroine essentially helps the hero become a man again and gives him a reason to fight.
The feelings between these two developed quite quickly, but it was believable still, especially given Mark's lack of affection in his life and Angelica's determination. I think the ending could've been a bit better in terms of some redemption for Mark, but it was still satisfying overall and an enjoyable read.
October Revenge, Book 6 of The Silver Foxes of Westminster, was about Lord Mark Pearson, Earl of Gatwick, cousin of Lord Armand Pearson, Viscount Helm, and Miss Angelica LeClair (the above blurb said her name was Angelique, but for the entire book she was called Angelica) from Louisiana. Before I continue with this review, I have to admit that, by the time I reached this book, I was thoroughly exhausted with not only the subject matter but also with the entire cast of characters. I don't think I've read any other series that gave me such disgust as this one. This series should have ended six books earlier than it did. Unfortunately, the author felt that many of the minor characters needed their own stories but, for me, those were just distractions that should have been left out. Angelica arrived from New Orleans to inform Mark that his great-uncle Miles Gatwick had died and had willed her to him as a wife. If Angelica didn't marry him, according to the will, she would lose all the businesses the man had owned in America and Mark would lose his home as well since his great-uncle had apparently purchased the estate from Mark's father years before. After verifying the validity of the will and all it claimed, Mark's attorney not only sent him back the papers proving them accurate, he also sent a special license so the two could marry, which they did. However, Mark had so many secrets and emotional scars from his time in Shayle's shadow that it was difficult for him to relate to Angelica. And then, not long after the wedding, Mark received a letter from Shayles demanding he showed up at the prison to visit him before he was to be released. Due to the nature of the storyline, the angst and drama were off the charts. There was no humor to alleviate the tension and most of the subject matter was enough to turn the stomach of the reader. While the passion was hot, it was few and far between, with more fear, anger, self-pity, and other negative emotions swamping everything good. Mark's character was, at best, weak, but it came from more than 25 years of being beaten down by Shayles and his gang. While the author didn't reveal everything he had endured (thankfully!), she revealed enough that bile rose up repeatedly and was difficult to swallow. Angelica was a strong, American woman who had to learn to defend herself at an early age to prevent men from doing to her what Shayles did to all the women who worked for him. While it was a decent story, it had enough problems that I just can't give it a five-star rating. When people are such bullies, and I don't just mean Shayles, but also all the other main male characters from the previous books, it made for a bad read.
The author does a good job right at the start in setting a mood and a tone for the book. The hero, Mark, the Earl of Gatwick, is silently walking around his own home as if trying to vanish into the woodwork himself. Soon the author reveals some of Mark’s past. Apparently, when Mark was younger, he got in with the wrong crowd. He got involved with a man named Shayles whom Mark witnessed doing terrible things. Mark feels guilty because he didn't say anything. Now some twenty years after a particularly heinous act, Mark helped get Shayles convicted of one crime. Unfortunately, this will not keep Shayles in prison for long; in fact, he's due to be released in a month from the start of the book. Mark knows that Shayles will kill him once he is released. Shayles’s lawyer has even sent Mark a letter stating that Mark owes the villain twenty thousand pounds, and if this is not paid, Mark will be ruined by what Shayles will divulge. Under the power of these threats, Mark feels a bit like a dead man walking.
Immediately on the heels of the receipt of this letter, Marcus is surprised when there is a knock at the door. He never has visitors. This visitor is a young black woman from New Orleans named Angelica. Mark’s uncle had moved to the States and became her adopted grandfather. In the old man's will, Angelica who will not get her inheritance unless she marries Mark.
The young woman is quite a spitfire and rather determined, unlike any woman Mark has known. He is definitely attracted to her, probably due in part to the monkish existence he has lived. Mark comes across as a sad, vulnerable, and sweet hero.
When Shayles finds out about this new woman in Mark's life, she becomes a target as well. However, Shayles has not met a woman like her! She is unwilling to back down to his threat. It was fascinating to see her strength and the way that she was able to help Mark become a stronger and better man. There is definitely violence in this book, but it is contextual and not gratuitous.
The book has some of the common issues with grammar, punctuation, and spelling, but this did not detract from my enjoyment of the book.
This is a very unusual historical romance. Not only is it interracial, but the heroine is stronger than the hero. If you're looking for something a little different in historical romance, this book may fill the bill.
I received a free review copy, but this did not affect my review.
An amazing story, not like anything I've read before.
Mark just stole my heart right from the start. He's been dealt such a horrible hand, but he's maintained his integrity - despite the cost - far longer than anyone could have asked of him. His nemesis has been publicly exposed, but not yet completely vanquished. Angelica shows up out of the blue, sent from his late great-uncle Miles and proving to be just the ally he needs to heal his heart and summon the strength to finish what needs finishing.
Angelica has been victimized before, and she's not about to stand by and let herself - or Mark - be trampled on again. In order to secure her inheritance from Miles she has to marry Mark - a task that seems to be beyond what Mark is capable of, but his history proves to be no obstacle to our determined heroine.
Their marriage sets the stage for some very intense love scenes, but it's not what you'd expect, not at first anyway. There's a lot of deep-rooted emotional baggage that must be unpacked before the marriage can bear fruit. The journey this book traverses is gut-wrenching, cathartic, and utterly romantic. It's a journey well worth taking, and it ends in a triumphant and sweetly satisfying HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Angelique is a unique character, she's very proactive - very gung-ho. She wants to fight every battle for Mark (sometimes literally she's very talented in self-defense). She lifts weights (or rather stones) and jogs around the grounds everyday. Mark is a gentle soul, he just wants to brood, paint, and hang out with his cat (Styx the cat is delightful secondary character).
Shayles has always been the scum of the Earth but he's really lost his damn mind in this one. There's a lot of reference to his sexual assault of Mark's first love at university. Luckily the Lord Shayles problem is permanently solved in this book. If you get what I'm saying and I think you do.
Tags: Abuse - Angelique was attacked by one of her father's employees, spurring her to strength train and learn to defend herself; Lord Shayles took advantage of Mark when Mark's father died and has been manipulating and gaslighting him for over 20 years; England - mainly Mark's estate in Hampshire with side trips to Dorset and Cornwall; Victorian - Begins in Autumn 1881
Lord Mark Gatwick has been on the outside of society due to his known close association with Lord Theodore Shayles a deviant and evil man. Unassuming, quiet and with an heir of boredom, Mark stays by Shayles' side while secretly despising him and looking for a way to stop his depraved behaviour. Angelica LeClair from Louisiana comes in search of Mark because of a clause left in the family will. Strong, independent, athletic, this intelligent, kind and empathetic beauty finds herself immediately drawn to this handsome, but quiet and closed man. Thrown together from different worlds, with murder, terrifying secrets, and surprising love finding and surrounding this couple, this book has you hooked from the very beginning. I loved these characters and the compelling storyline that answers many questions that have been raised in this wonderful series. Merry Farmer has excelled in this book with her very descriptive and clever writing. She brings all the characters in the book alive with emotion, humour and passion. I absolutely loved it!
Angelica LeClaire tries to serve her ‘inheritance condition while evading the drudgery of life as a quadroon in America as she rings the bell at the manor home she’d been told about. With Shayles in prison serving an embarrassingly short sentence, Lord Mark Gatwick should at least be ecstatic but is unable to slake the filth he’d wallowed in as Shayles lackey.
Feisty, strong Angelica wears down damaged Gatwick and quickly becomes his countess and settles the conditions set on her and Gatwick. Shayles continues his threats to Gatwick’s life while holding something precious out of his reach… but Angelica is having none of it. She has plans that don’t include Shayles and reminds them all she is now a countess.
An excellent entry to the series not only proving you don’t know someone else’s story but overcoming demons is something we can (with the right support) overcome quite a bit. Or maybe it’s all the power of positive thinking. Rating: 4.5stars
Ah, what can we say about Mark, the quiet friend of the devious Shayles. For 25 years he has allowed himself to be a lapdog while quietly trying to make amends to some of the women abused by Shayles and his cronies. He lives in misery of the one he couldn't save. When Angelica comes from America due to her adopted grandfather's will in order to marry Mark he is dumbfounded. No matter how he tries to distance himself, the strong willed Angelica is there at every turn and she starts to break down his defenses. But with Shayles release from prison and his threat to kill Mark hanging in the balance, Mark must figure out a way to keep Angelica safe. But Angelica is not to be underestimated and Mark will soon put his demons to rest. Many surprises in this story. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Another great Merry Farmer romance... This addition to the Silver Foxes of Westminster series was worth the wait. Dark, intriguing, and gripping this story begins with Mark living in the wake of an unfortunate "friendship" that began in his youth and has left him under the thumb of the villainous Shayles with a death threat hanging over his head. Angelica is of mixed race; from Louisiana, and must travel to England and marry her adoptive grandfathers great nephew to save herself from poverty and destitution. Angelica is wary of men, Mark hasn't looked at a woman in years due to his relationship with Shayles. Now these two must marry and Mark must protect Angelica from his now nemesis, Shayles. They are quite a pair and this is a well written, thrilling mystery.

While I have read some of the books in this series, I did not read the previous book which I believe featured a storyline regarding Gatwick and Shayles. That being said, I do not think you need to read that book to enjoy this one. I thought the explanation of what happened (at least inferred) was enough to know that Mark was just a victim of bullying. I am not usually drawn to beta heroes but Mark is someone you want to cuddle with just to alleviate his torments. Angelica is one bad-ass woman – if only every woman (then and now) would take steps to empower themselves. The interaction between Mark and Angelica was so sweet and tender. I loved the story and hope that you enjoy it also.

Now, this book deserves the 5 stars!! Shalyes got what he deserved FINALLY!!! Im so glad that horrible evil man is gone. Angelica is amazing!! Out of all the women, I think she's my favorite. She's funny, witty, strong, intelligent, and stubborn. She doesn't let Mark treat her as anything less than his equal. When he wants to be wallow in his self-pity, she brings him up. I admire that she learned self-defense to protect herself. Mark really got lucky with her as a wife. She is truly perfection. I love the ending and full circle of what happened with Kitty. I'm so glad Mark forgave himself and was able to move past everything. Now, I'm trying to keep an open mind for the next book. I absolutely DESPISE Victoria 😑
Not the typical story that I always read in historical romance books, here, the heroine is the "hero" - a refreshing one for me. I love how the romance and mystery in this story developed, quite realistic I have to say. I can feel so many emotions in here. The character development is so perfect. And despite the fact that this is part of a series, this is definitely a standalone. Merry Farmer is becoming one of my favorites, and I will definitely read more stories in this series.

Mark has been friends with Shayles for years and witnessed the things he has done but now they have caught up with him and Mark has to testify against Shayles and he has to serve six months in jail. Mark feels badly that he never tried to stop him so he goes to his country estate and that is where Angelica finds him. She has to marry him in order to get her inheritance but she finds out he is in danger because Shayles has been released from jail. This is a romance filled with suspense which keep you turning the pages. Loved the story and the characters.

So I thought once I started reading this that the guy was a wimp, no backbone and was about to just give up on life period, and along comes this sassy, Amazon warrior women who doesn't take any carp from anyone and proves to him that he does have a backbone with the right push and someone that really cares for him and will stand by his side through the good and the bad. This was a steamy laugh out loud book that will have you wanting to read more, it totally has you turning your head and going what ??? Bravo Merry for writing g another outstanding book!! Cannot wait to read more !! This book was reviewed by a Book Loving Vixen...
I only rated this book with 3 stars because of Angelica. To travel across the ocean with only a letter of recommendation was wonderful, daring and awesome to me. Being a female of mixed parentage made it more astounding if not believable. Did not care for Lord Mark, how dare you be a friend to a villain for nearly 25 years and still be a wimp. I do not like my hero to be a wimp, no matter what. By the by, the synopsis of this book has her name as Angelique, whereas the book has her name Angelica. Who proof reads these books? There were many more errors in the story. The sex was steamy, the one good thing in this story.
Lord Mark Gatwick has been looking for redemption and a painting for twenty five years. He’s associated himself with a true villain.
Angelica has traveled from America to England to fulfill her adopted stepfathers will. She gets nothing unless she marries Mark and then it’s only a share in his business that she helped run. She’s also the daughter of a former slave.
A great read with a much older man.

October Revenge is the sixth book in this already fabulous series The Silver Foxes of Westminster, Merry Farmer in my opinion has done another great job. I absolutely loved this story it is full of emotions, has some drama and definitely some passion. The characters are very likable and intriguing, Lord Gatwick has some dark secrets from his past, then you have Angelica one bold and brave heroine. I highly recommend this great book, I hope you will enjoy this fantastic story as much as I did.
I’ve read all but the last book in this series and without a doubt this has been my favorite. A couple of the books in the middle almost had me stop reading the series but I wanted to see Shayles get taken down once and for all so I had to read them. I’m so glad I kept on reading. My heart hurt for Gatwick. I enjoyed Angelique tremendously. She was so strong and exactly what he needed. I look forward to the last book.
October revenge is a roller coaster ride. Be prepared for an all out whirlwind of emotion. This book is one of my favorites from this series. Lord Mark Gatwick is so much more than we expected. A will from his great uncle changes his life and ends the life of someone else. The characters are brilliant. I just don't know how Merry does it.
I loved loved loved this book!! I have read every book Merry has published, I believe, and I think this is my favourite. After reading the atrocities of Lord Shayles in several books, this was a satisfying way to see the end of his reign of terror on Mark and England. Bravo Merry!!
The sixth book in The Silver Foxes of Westminster by Merry Farmer is a well written story that held my interest throughout. Lord Mark Gatwick and Angelica LeClair's story has suspense, drama, danger, a very nasty man, and romance. A book I enjoyed reading. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A bit of a dark mood and suspense here. Mark, Lord Gatwick, seems to be waiting for Lord Shayles to get his revenge on Mark. Then Angelica, driven by desperation, arrives and is determined to get Mark to marry her. Little does she know her foster-grandfather's will has a stipulation to help. A rather intricate plot that kept me turning the pages. 4*-I really liked it.
This is such a dark and twisted story but it is one You can't put down. You can't help but like Mark and Angelique with all of their faults. This book is full of intrigue and mystery with romance thrown in for good measure. It is sure to please.

I enjoyed this book so much. First of this authors books I have read. It was so exciting, didn’t want to put it down. It has secrets, surprises, adventure, intrigue, romance, and perfect ending, with some sizzle, too. Do yourself a favor and read, because I highly recommend it. Going to start another of her books.
