October 25, 2020I like the concept of the story but found the details of what was happening rather vague. The characters reasoning was confusing. I like the story line as it got on in the book but I was disappointed with the abrupt ending. I wanted to to know more.

It started out interesting. But then it just wasn't.
This book does have potential. But there were so many mistakes that it really got to me. I started out reporting the mistakes, but after so many in the first chapter alone, I just stopped reporting them and pushed through.
Part of my rating is because of the mistakes. I normally don't take stars for things like that because I get that a book can still have a few. But when it's like 10+ mistakes per page... I can't let that go. This book really badly needs an editor.
Then there was the fact that Amber basically gave up trying to get home on day 1. Accepted her time traveling fate so fast that she started thinking of marriage and babies, after barely a week or two. I'm just saying that if I somehow found myself transported back in time, I would be looking for a way back for more than a day.
I also didn't like that she chose to stay silent for a big portion of the book. That got kinda tiring pretty fast.
And then there was the ending. I am SO glad she chose to go back. Especially after finding Pin kissing another woman. So basically, a miscommunication trope was thrown in, and I hate those.
Overall, it was fine. But I wouldn't recommend it. Not as is. If the book were to be edited to get rid of all the mistakes, then I would put it from 2.5 to at least 3 stars.

What immediately drew me into this book was its similarities to Outlander, and it did not disappoint. While I was a little bored by the beginning and by Amber's character, the ending did make up for it. I'm really excited to read the coming books in this series because it was a really interesting premise but the MC's character just fell a bit flat for me.

This book is based in Scotland during the late 18th Century after the Battle of Culloden. It was my first book on time traveling and I loved it. As soon as I thought I knew where the story was headed, there was an unexpected twist. The book ended at a point which makes me eager for the sequel. Fabulous debut!

Amber is a ballet dancer in New York when she suddenly finds herself in 18th century Scotland. The first men she meets have nefarious intentions so she is relieved to be rescued.
Using her dancing skills she manages to survive somehow but will she ever get back to her own time?
This is an interesting premise and the book starts well and promises much. Unfortunately it does fall away and the ending was very unsatisfactory.

Unfortunately, since Regina is my friend, my rating may be considered biased and subjective. I never doubted her talent, yet I wasn't sure if this type of fiction is my cup of tea (never tried it before). As it turns up, it is!
Throughout the book I could clearly see that Regina made a research, and indeed took an effort to immerse a reader in the atmosphere of the times. Instead of teleporting Amber to a cliché castle, Regina started her novel with a true life of those times. Amber faced people's deaths to a simple flu and fever, hard work and unbearable stench!
Amber's (Helena's) and Alpin's love story is not all about Prince Charming, birds and flowers. Their story is much more down to earth. We need more novels like this!
I also loved the plot twist, I wasn't expecting it at all.
