(free review copy via @kidlitexchange) Oh I LOVE this family even more with every story. They are the perfect combination of the Melendy and Penderwick families and the children are wonderfully unsupervised (this is a GOOD THING!) and allowed to have adventures and learn and make mistakes and I just adore them so much. This story combines pets and a BIG family problem and is just such a delightful story. I raced through it and can't wait to share it with students!

Yan Glaser writes for this audience so expertly and crafts such a rich and magical read aloud - of course this story can be read independently by students, but it takes a special story to be a good read aloud, and Yan Glaser nails it. And before anyone asks, yes, you should start with book 1 - these are a series and reference past events - the experience will be so much richer if you read the whole series in order :-)

I loved the first 2 books in this series, but I was afraid that I wouldn’t like this third book. It turns out that this might be my favorite book of the first three books. A fourth book, The Vanderbeekers Lost and Found, is expected out in 2020 and I definitely plan to read it as soon as it’s available.

There are many charming black & white illustrations throughout by the author and a great map on the inside covers and floor plans for the family house and treehouse.

This story is so funny. Many times I laughed out loud at the antics of the kids and of the animals.

I also found it incredibly heartwarming.

I love this family, their love from one another, their distinct personalities, all the animals, the messes they get into and the general chaos. I enjoy the adult and teen and child and animal friends and neighbors and community members of the Vanderbeekers, the sibling love, and the resourcefulness and the hard work of the kids, their independence. The Vanderbeeker children are hardworking and well-meaning people. Yes, sometimes they screw up big time but they always do all they possibly can to fix what they have messed up, and the whole story is just so funny and sweet.

I love how this family loves to read. The letter on pages 278-279 is priceless, so wonderful, so hilarious, as are a few other parts farther along in the book. Fans of Anne Shirley of Anne and Green Gables will especially appreciate how the Vanderbeeker kids are also fans.

I did miss some characters and settings from the first two books that have no or just a small place in this book, but new characters were introduced and that mostly made up for that lack.

I love this family and I found this book superbly satisfying and I highly recommend these books to children and all readers who enjoy children’s literature.

One of my favorite things about fall is the latest installment in the Vanderbeekers series! The newest episode is my favorite yet as the five kids scramble to save their mom's business and help the homeless pets that keep showing up on their doorstep. You really feel their frustration and dismay. Mrs. Vanderbeeker's cookie business is in jeopardy because of the animals in the house and more keep appearing! Karina Yan Glaser gives us the distinct flavor of their Harlem neighborhood through the eyes of this group of siblings from a blended, intact home. It is such a delight to watch them work through solutions to the problems they are confronted with. They make unwise decisions at times and then work to correct their mistakes. No free passes, but plenty of grace and encouragement to try again. The covers for the series are beautiful and inviting and the illustrations inside are perfectly matched to the narrative. If you are still mourning the end of the Penderwicks, look no further for your next series.

Thank you, thank you Houghton Mifflin and NetGalley for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This series has been so enjoyable thus far and I’m a bit sad I have to wait so long for the next book! This third installment of the “The Vanderbeeker” series was such a fun read like the previous books. I truly love seeing a happy, normal, and loving family in fiction books (let’s think about all the books in the Middle-Grade or YA market that have “bossy” parents or just lacking paternal figures entirely) and this family is just precious.

Content:
*A couple mentions of blessings over food; A couple mentions of the universe.

*Minor cussing (a couple ‘darn’s, a ‘fudge’, a couple ‘oh my gosh’s, a ‘screwed up’, an unfinished ‘what the...’, a ‘what the heck’, a couple ‘crumb’s, a mention of a word that Oliver says his parents had forbidden him to ever say; Mentions of abandon animals, euthanizing, and animals being harmed.

*There is a little bit of liking someone (from one of the 13year old twins) and how pretty she looks in a dress.

Things are looking up for the Vanderbeekers when their mom learns her cookie business is to be featured in a famous magazine. But things quickly go awry after her children trying to be helpful put her license to operate a commercial kitchen in jeopardy.

Adding to their problems, someone is leaving animals on their doorstep and considering it was their pets who brought on the kitchen calamity they need to find homes for their fast growing menagerie...quickly.

Vanderbeekers to the Rescue is completely charming. It's an adventure that will enchant young readers. Solid gold 5 Stars. This entire series is brilliant. Buy them for your kids.

A read that is almost sturdy in its cuteness. A nice fluffy read to blow through on a Sunday afternoon and, in my opinion, better than the first book. While this series is in no way a contender with series like The Penderwicks or the Melendy Quartet, it is still a fun little series that I will definitely finish.

5.0 ⭐️ This book is like a great big hug, or a mug or cocoa and sea salted caramel cookies, or a box of kittens, or a sleepover in a treehouse, or wrapping yourself up in a quilt on a rainy day with twinkle lights on, or daydreaming in a hammock...

Basically, think of something that makes your heart fill up, that leaves you feeling safe and delighted and a little more optimistic about the world, and now imagine this in book form and you’ve got the third installment of the Vanderbeekers.

In case it’s not obvious, I love this series. I didn’t think that it was possible to love an installment as much as the first book, but for me, the third is just as satisfying.

Loved the madcap things that happen, all of the animals, the never ending sweetness of the family dynamic, the neighborhood and friends. It’s all wonderful.

So read this book, but I would make sure you’ve begun with the first two so that you can enjoy this one as fully as possible.

Keep them coming Karina!

This series never ceases to make me smile. This book was a bit more of them tripping over themselves than I love, but still, they are so. stinking. Sweet!

I didn't think it was possible to adore these kids even more than I already did. This book was such a delight! It's funny because every time I open a book in this series I just know I'm going to be in a really good mood. There are always more adventures to read about and something unique about each book. This one had a grand treehouse, lots of furry friends (and I mean a lot!), and a lifetime chance for mama Vanderbeeker and her baking business. These children are the sweetest kids on the planet. I loved watching them help their mother achieve her dreams, how they band together to get things done, and just the overall sense of family. Help their mother open a cat cafe and just watching these kids go above and beyond for her was heartwarming. Might have cried a tiny bit too. There's always so much love going around in these books. I urge you to pick them up!

Another installment in the crazy lives of the Vanderbeeker family of 141st Street in Harlem. Glaser's characters and family dynamics are well done. This story focuses on the mother's attempt to start a cookie business at home, which is wrecked by the inspector showing up early at their duplex apartment, where the family's menagerie is overly evident. Trying to cover their mistake, they reschedule the inspection and as they make arrangements to hide their pets, someone is adding animals every night. The incredibly kindhearted nature of the children is so evident that everyone wants to help them. Their road trip to Brooklyn based on Oliver's brilliant idea was great. Disaster is narrowly averted, and the mother gets a wonderful birthday breakfast celebration with an unexpected gift. Especially rewarding for pet lovers. Looking forward to Books 4 and 5.

The Vanderbeekers are one of my favourite fictional families and this might be my favourite book so far! I love being part of their chaotic but loving world. It is so feel good and cozy. I love the cool parents and the kids who are always so involved in various activities but so connected to each other and everything that's happening around them.

Over a week long spring break, Jessie,Isa, Oliver, Hyacinth and Laney have to help get their house ready for a magazine photoshoot showcasing their mother's home baking business. They also have to figure out who is leaving kittens,Guinea pigs and other animals on their doorstep. Most importantly, they need to somehow correct a botched up inspection that could close down their mother's dream bakery! Of course, being the kids they are, they tackle all these issues with their usual energy and enthusiasm. Oliver builds a dream treehouse and Isa practices for her orchestra audition alongside.

I just love the bonding in this family and the siblings share such a wonderful relationship. There is so much humour and emotion in this story and so many tearjerker moments.Their intentions are so laudable and they are always willing to try again. The community of neighbours and friends they are surrounded by are equally great so it's just like a big extended family! I really like the fact that there is no outright negativity in these books, just problems that become opportunities to find creative solutions!

I love all the animals and their unique names and their part in the daily shenanigans too. The delicious food and baked goodies made me hungry! I particularly loved the ending of this story because it was just so heartwarming and satisfactory!

This series is just so much fun to read and it gladdens my heart to spend time with the Vanderbeekers.

This series is quickly becoming an all-time favorite for me. I really love how these kids and their parents interact. They all clearly love each other and are trying to help and respect each other, but they're also all sinful human beings who make mistakes, get upset, lose their patience, and so on. No one is too perfect, but no one is stupid or mean or neglectful either.

Yes, the kids keep a big secret from their parents in this one. Yes, that causes a lot of problems. Yes, there are consequences. No one laughs this off, no one decides it doesn't matter after all, and no one pooh-poohs the fact that they should have been honest and forthright. That's a really unusual thing to find in a book for kids, especially a more modern one, and I find it very refreshing.

The fun thing about the Vanderbeekers series is that every time I pick up a new book in this series, I know it's going to be a new favorite. This one was no different.

Along with the Penderwicks, the Gaithers and Quimbys, the Vanderbeekers have a very special place in my heart as a wonderful series about a fun family and their adventures.
Book 3 may be my favorite of the series thus far -- I loved seeing the kids come up with a creative solution to their newest problem with their usual pluck and determination. .

If you haven't tried the Vanderbeekers yet, here's some reasons why you should buy it for your library or your own kids:
1. Happy, fun family adventure series with plenty of action and a hint of mystery
2. So. many. animals! Especially in book 3, but a love of animals permeates through all the books in the series
3. A love of community is all over this series from the way Laney visits her homebound neighbor Mr. Jeet daily with rabbit Paganini to the community garden they built for Mr. Biederman in book 2 to the way they all come together in the end of book 3 in an extremely cute ending that involves pajamas and cats.

Simply put, this is a series worth falling for, worth reading aloud with your kids and worth freaking out and begging the author for an early release copy as soon as you see ARCs are released. 😜

If you haven’t yet met the Vanderbeeker family from Harlem, there’s no time like the present. This biracial, generous, and close-knit family is still living in their beloved brownstone on 141st Street and they are met with a new family catastrophe along with a new mystery to solve. Mama’s baking business is taking off and her home-based kitchen must pass inspected. And WHY do homeless animals keep showing up on their doorstep? There’s so much to love about this series, but what I adore most about these books are the relationships, especially within the family. Kids make mistakes and they calmly work it out. I’m just so touched and astounded by the patience and empathy. I am always willing to revisit 141st Street. And apparently there’s a fourth book planned for release in 2020, so YAY!

That warmhearted Harlem family, the Vanderbeekers, are back in this third delightful novel devoted to their adventures, as the siblings seek to undo the damage they think they have done to their mother's baking business, when an inspector's visit goes horribly wrong. Determined to hide the family's pets - Franz the dog, George Washington the cat, and Paganini the bunny - during the next inspection, in order to win back their mother's license, the Vanderbeekers instead discover that the number of animals under their care grows by leaps and bounds, as a mysterious visitor begins depositing strays, from orphaned kittens to lost chickens, on their back doorstep. With the apartment in need of refreshing, for Mama's big magazine interview, inspector Mr. West coming back for a second visit, Isa practicing for her youth orchestra audition, Oliver concerned with his new tree-house, and all of the siblings worrying about what to do with this unexpected menagerie, it's a chaotic Spring Vacation that no one will ever forget.

Having raced through the first two books about this family - The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street and The Vanderbeekers and the Hidden Garden - I was excited to pick up The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue, which I was lucky enough to obtain ahead of its publication date, in ARC (advanced reading copy) form. Once again, I found myself pulled headlong into this family's many mishaps and adventures, rooting for the loving Vanderbeekers to find a way to set things right. This one is a little longer than the previous two, and as catastrophe piled on catastrophe, I found myself wondering how Glaser would resolve the various crises into which she had plunged her characters. In the end though, the solution to two separate sets of problems proved to be the same thing - - providing a very neat and emotionally satisfactory conclusion. I appreciated the fact that all five of the Vanderbeeker children had their moments in this one, and (as always) I loved the animal characters. If anything, the animal love in this one is greatly increased, as our favorite family is inundated with unexpected animal orphans. Recommended to fans of the Vanderbeekers, to young animal lovers, and to anyone looking for heartwarming family stories for the middle grade set.

The Vanderbeekers are always a delight to be reunited with. I did find myself feeling slightly peevish at how the siblings never, ever fight and things are resolved so neatly. Still, it’s such a positive influence for all those that read it and a shining example of how to navigate this world with kindness and compassion.

This was such a lovely read. I think the parents are a tad too perfect but it's such a cozy read that I don't care if it's a bit unrealistic (okay, more than just a bit). I would give it 5 stars if someone would magically deliver me cookies while I read it. 🤩

My TBR is way too long to read many series aloud to my children so I read this one on my own. The first book was one we enjoyed reading aloud. I will recommend they this on their own and I plan to read the rest of the series for myself.
