These novellas were all centered around a "neighbor next door" theme. The author duo were great at "checking in" on previous characters as each story unfolded. There was only one inconsistency I caught, but it didn't affect the storylines. If you enjoy sweet Christmas Christian fiction with central themes, you'll enjoy this book! I was able to read a physical copy of this book. All opinions are my own, and I was not influenced by anyone or anything.
Out of the four stories, I read the first two and would give them each 4 stars. The third one I did not care for and did not finish, and honestly I didn’t care to read the last one. I’ve gotten bored, and know that the writing isn’t the best from these two authors. The first two were enjoyable, but I think there’s just only so much you can do with the same story over and over again. Maybe if they were four stories set in different towns it wouldn’t feel so repetitive or like it was getting old. Maybe next year I’ll come back to the last two, but maybe not😬
What a cute book! The stories all overlapped and focused on different characters in the same small town, but still kind of checked in on the other main characters in the other books.
I had picked this book up and bought it a couple years ago knowing nothing about it, but I’m glad I did! I’ll definitely be keeping it!
This book includes four stories about families and their next door neighbor neighbors. Of course some of the you would be happy to have as neighbors while others are not who you would care to know. Yet, there is love in the air and Christmas baskets to fill for the needy in the area.
The Marshall Next Door by Vickie Justin Yates is in charge of his twins sisters who are approaching 15 years of age. He decides he needs to enlist the help of his neighbor, Marta, to help make sure the girls (Emma and Ella) know the things they’ll need to know as they mature. Nice characters with a slight mystery thrown in make this an enjoyable read and introduces us to the town we’ll be “living in” in this series. The Spinsters Next Door by Susan Rachel’s the heir of her father’s property, but things are tight so she and her aunt’s Priscilla and Lois. While starting to prepare the house they are approached by the schoolmaster, Stephen Worth, inquiring about renting it. He’s taken by Rachel, but she’s a Mrs., which begs the question of where her husband is. This story explores some of Rachel’s past in answering that question. The Outlaw Next Door by Vickie Dane McDermott has a past he’s not proud of on top of being interested in the preacher’s daughter, Regina, whom he doesn’t feel good enough for. Lovely story getting to know both of these guys better, with some mishaps along the way. We see glimpses of people from the earlier stories and have two newcomers in this one, the Beaumont twins, who open up a new shop in town. The Gunslinger Next Door by Susan Alice has a new neighbor, an older gentleman that thinks he’s someone else. Alice does the neighborly thing and brings him treats to eat at times. Meanwhile the postmaster John Goodwin has had a lot of packages to deliver next door, some of them quite heavy. Another page turning story and the last of this novella series, this one also has an element of mystery to it that has John and Alice trying to figure out what those packages mean and if the old gentleman is ok, or suffering from dementia. Great series overall, interconnecting enough to see some characters from the earlier stories at times.
This novella collection tales are set in Wiseman, Texas during the late 1800’s. Each story has new characters along with some of the same residents in Wiseman, plus unusual situations why one neighbor is assisting or asking the next door neighbor for help. Some of the scenes seemed repetitive like filling Christmas baskets for the needy but with new individuals contributing. There are hidden secrets, budding romance and faith in each story.
Christmas Next Door was perfect to read with Christmas coming and how one little town came together to make Christmas better for the less fortunate. This book is own I purchased and had on my bookshelf for a while, so glad I finally read it.
