Welcome to Whisper, Virginia. Population: 2. At least, that’s how it feels after Beck Night’s mother, Maggie, passes away. Despite his best efforts, he can’t seem to escape and disentangle his life from Magnus Deacon, his mother’s sexy former boss. Beck isn’t a fan of the bachelor billionaire extraordinaire, unlike the rest of Whisper. After a lifetime of being forgotten and lost in the shuffle as Deacon and Maggie achieved greatness, Beck just wants to get on with his life and save the town’s dying library. Fate and his best friend, Delilah, seem to have other plans for Beck and he’s coerced into working for a man he can’t stand. Or keep his hands off of.
Deacon would have been a wealthy and powerful man even if he hadn’t been born a billionaire and blessed with every possible advantage. Fortunately for Deacon, he was born with every advantage and knows he was extremely blessed. He’s never lost sight of that fact or that he wouldn’t be the man he was if it weren’t for the town of Whisper and Maggie Night. After Deacon loses Maggie to cancer, he turns to Whisper and her adorably cranky son, Beck, for help picking up the pieces. Determined to win Beck's forgiveness and trust, Deacon finds he won’t be satisfied until he’s got Beck’s body and his heart too.
Whisper’s just like any other small town in America. There’s a story behind every smile and secrets are hard to come by. How about a story that starts with two lost, heartbroken men with almost nothing in common, except loving the same woman? Can they find their way to each other and a lifetime of love? In a small town like Whisper, chances are very good.
Author of the popular Nannies of New York and Boys of Lake Cliff book series, K Sterling has self-published dozens of books. K. is known for fast-paced romantic thrillers and touching gay romcoms. There might be goosebumps and some gore but there’s always true love and lots of laughter.
DNF. OMG, the dialogue is so stilted and cheesy. I have yet to figure out the actual age difference between the two men. And I can't believe that Beck would step into his mom's job so quickly after the funeral.
Interesting brand new storyline from KS. I like the premise and I'm okay if this isn't the beginning of a series just a stand alone novel about two guys in Rural Virginia that settled into their lives together after living their lives together separate.
I wish that I had felt like Magnus was actually a billionaire. I know he threw his money around and I know he was relaxed and happy in Whisper but I just kept losing the thread of him being older and more mature and a busy man. None of that came through in his personality. I didn't understand how Cade was his best friend if he was Becks age, either. I've noted in other reviews that this author is much stronger at writing the morally ambiguous total alpha male than their love life counterparts. With this book having no super strong alpha male, I think that is still the case in this book.
All in all, a nice, sexy read without any angst and lot of emotions.
Fun book with a hysterical friendship between Beck and Delilah. I loved the bantering, almost a shorthand communication with shared snark between Beck and Magnus. The sexy bits had the usual amazing K Sterling flair, in any book of hers, you can count on great sex scenes.
I settled at a three-star rating because of the juxtaposition between the seriously sad emotions and resentment resulting from Maggie’s neglect and how it just *poof* vanished. The random fight was also just random, came out of nowhere and didn’t really make sense, nor did some of the time continuity issues. (Did Beck make his mom the unlimited free hugs card at 12/13? If not, the ages didn’t match up). And I’m not sure wth Magnus did for a living. These details really don’t matter if it’s a bit of enjoyable fluff you are seeking because this book absolutely provides that and more. If you are looking for more of a deep dive like the early Lake Cliff, Happily Ever Allie and Shop Downstairs, this night not satisfy entirely.
This was very entertaining and it was a fun story. Beck and his bestie Delilah were a pair. They were funny and cute. Deacon was just great too. Quick fun read!
Before I get started, I would just like to say how much some of the words in this book moved me. One example:
"I could find you in a crowd with my eyes closed. It's never been as good as it is with you."
Magnus Deacon is a billionaire who's made a life in politics with the help of his former assistant, who was the mother of Beck Night. After Maggie's death, Magnus hope's that he will be able to rely on Beck to take her place as his assistant, but Beck has never wanted anything to do with Magnus. He's been jealous of his and Maggie's relationship his entire life. So, how much convincing will it take to show Beck that he's not an awful guy?
I loved the parallel relationship between Magnus's best friend Cade and Beck's best friend Delilah. The love was so sweet and endearing between them and their friendship really cemented this story for me.
Beck's feelings were so hidden it became painful, but when realization hits, it hits hard and fast (heh, heh, heh). And yes, there was plenty of that for your reading pleasure!
I really, truly enjoyed the second half of this book. I had a hard time getting into it, though, at the start. I kept getting confused with the pronouns. There were so many 'he' and 'his' and I got lost trying to figure out which person went with which body part. Also, the changing POV's threw me as well. It just seemed like the first section was somewhat disjointed, but then it flowed and rolled and I LOVED how the feelings were so buried, then popped like fireworks.
I'm totally going to give this another read as I feel like it's worth it.

A fantastic book! K. Sterling does it again a completely new and unique story line. This book is full of love but there are also a lot of laughs. The characters are so cute and funny that it's hard not to fall for them. As usual from this author it's a captivating story line keeping the readers interest. Deacon has lost a brilliant assistant but the man she trained doesn't even know it and he definitely won't want the job when he does know. When Deacon approaches him about the job he knows he'll refuse but he'll do anything to get this guy on board. When Deacon realises why this young man feels the way he does Deacon needs to show how sorry he is. When they spend time together Deacon realises they are good together in more ways than one he just needs to get Beck to see it. Beck has just lost his mother and the last thing he needs is to work for the man who took most of her time when she was alive. Deacon offers him the one thing he can't resist so he takes the job. Deacons not the bad man Beck thought he was but he needs to sort out a lot of stuff before he can see a happy ending. While these two work it out we have plenty to laugh about, some very passionate scenes and some amazing characters like Delilah and Cade. This book is very different from the last series I read by this author but this book was fun and entertaining I would recommend it to anyone who loves a great read.
4.5⭐️ M/M May-December romance, both poignant over one woman
I hated/loved this heartache of a story. Deacon, the self assured billionaire was 16 when Maggie came into his life directly and Beck was only 4 when he started losing his mother, Maggie. I adored grownup Beck because “Everyone else loved Beck because he was quiet but never afraid to stand up for himself and generally sweet to every living thing. Except Deacon.” Beck’s life since he was 4 when he gave her an “Unlimited Free Hugs card”, was always trying to attain his mother’s love and attention but for Deacon who Maggie became his family, the mother he never had.
Deacon forces Beck to work for him, filling the spot left empty by Maggie, by using the one thing Beck loves more than anything, the failing library where he is head librarian. Beautiful story of 2 men who loved one woman and searching for family. This story is filled with tears, heartache, hot sex and laughter! Delilah is a great BFF for Beck, so sexy and what a character! Different departure from K. Sterling’s usual adorable killers which I had to adjust for, thus the 4.5 stars. Loved it!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book and was not required to leave a review. I purchased this book to support my author and offset the piracy which affects all authors.
I so enjoyed this story! It was funny, pulled at your heart strings and had all the feels, and when the MCs get together, phew! The pages burned up 🔥
Both MCs were delightful, but my favourite was definitely Beck. He was so spirited and took no crap from anyone, (except his best friend, Delilah). He leads Deacon, the other lead, round by the nose ring, and it really cracked me up. Deacon, this powerful billionaire, doesn't know what's hit him 😊
It worked so well, there is the the May to December theme, (which is one of my favourites), also, it's kind of an enemies to lovers story (another favourite trope), even though the whole enemy thing is one sided, leaving one of the MCs bewildered. It's humorous in parts, with lots of snark, and with some self discovery thrown into the mix, it's my kind of book. Loved the dialogue.
I absolutely love the majority of this lady's work. I keep saying this, but she really is underrated. Read this book, you won't regret it ; then try out some more of Ms Sterling's work. You won't regret it.
Okay, this did not work for me. Beck is super resentful against Deacon, his mom's boss, because by working for Deacon, his mom missed a lot of Beck's childhood milestones. And Beck goes on and on and on and on about it. It takes two to tango, Baby. Beck's mom could have asked at any time to take time off, because Deacon is portrayed as sensible, if needy, boss. She didn't. And as his friend pointed out, she probably would have missed it even if she worked at a local supermarket, because that was the type of mom she was. So it was mostly Maggie's fault, not Deacons. Not that I care, because I was so fed-up with Beck I couldn't care less. He was super rude toward Deacon, and as any super rich billionaire, Deacon just took the abuse and came back for more. Because Beck is actually super nice and wonderful and beloved, and super hot, and Deacon is going to marry him. Argh!! I can't take it anymore! I skim read to the end, because the parts that was not whiny was quite good, it was just too little, too late.
K Sterling's One Night In Whisper... is a wonderful book; one that will deliver all the feels.
Beck is a strong character who won't take shit from anyone. It's fun to see him controlling the Billionaire Deacon. Of course, he's resented Deacon for his whole life. This storyline is absolutely gut-wrenching at times. And it's also such a wonderful concept, that is superbly handled.
It's also funny and you'll find yourself laughing with Beck and his friend a lot. It's full of snark and laughs, as well as tender moments. And once the men get together, the chemistry can be felt in spade
I love One Night In Whisper... and highly recommend it. It's a fantastic May to December romance. It's an accomplished tale that will have you feeling all the feels. I can't praise this story enough.
like everything K. Sterling writes, this book was amazing! Beck is having a hard time after his mom dies, mostly because he blames Magnus for monopolizing her life while she still had one. In all reality his mom Maggie did the best she could as a single mom. Of course this doesn't stop the two from starting up a sexy affair, love will find a way. Love definitely found a way, these two are meant for each other. Really great story, i would love to see a novella of these two down the road. would def recommend!
This was such a great story. Sometimes we never know what others are thinking, we think we do then find we were totally wrong. Then find love in the most unusual places. This was a fun story to read and was hard to put down. Beck and Deacon were fun to watch grow, and it would be fun to see another story of their continued journeys along with that of Cane and Delilia, one can hope.!! If you are looking for something to read to make you feel good, pick this one up!!
I read the blurb and couldn’t help myself. Deacon and Beck are sweetly perfect for one another as they work together (sort of) to build Whisper’s library. Deacon’s determination to love Beck was the thing of epic poetry. Sterling has a way with words as she weaves a story filled with a lot of heat and kindness. Her humour is laugh out loud funny and I know I’m in for a good time. If you like billionaire stories set in small towns with determined not to fall heroes, this is your book
One Night in Whisper by K Sterling gives you all of the heart warming feels of a Hallmark movie. The cast of characters were entertaining and lovable.
There are several trops in this story may/ dec, enemies to lovers, small town, billianaire and assistant. I guess you can say something for everyone. Great seasonal read that leaves you with a heart full of love.
3.5-4 stars...This was an interesting read...I loved the story/premise but the writing was a little discombobulated...The flow was choppy as the story felt like it was told in snippets. The dialogue was very good but short, and just when you would get to spend some quality time with Beck and Magnus, the scene would end. I thought Beck and Magnus were great together; funny, emotional and very sexy but I needed the story to flow better.
K Sterling is so gifted with developing unique characters and storylines. The characters are always well developed and consistent. You can't help but to fall in love right along with them. Her romances are laced with humor and banter...So good! This is no different.. I like this couple, believe in them, and want them for neighbors. Kudos for Delilah...best bff ever! Highly recommended....I'll be reading this one again.
I really wanted to like this but it just didn't work for me. Beck has been so neglected by his mother, the missed plays, walking himself to the hospital after breaking his arm, missed graduation, etc all because of working with Deacon. He's super resentful about it, as he should be, and Deacon himself knows he stole Beck's mother and Beck's childhood. Yet suddenly all that is just swept under the rug, everything is shiny and great again. Nope.
Beck and Magnus' story was an emotional, entertaining and sometimes angsty enjoyable read...I was in need of a "lighter" read....this was just the fix...I haven't laughed out loud (with tears rolling down my cheeks!) as much as I did reading this book...the BFF relationship between Beck and Delilah -OMG!!!... are there more stories hiding in Whisper?
I was pleasantly surprised. Both Beck and Deacon pulled me in. Beck is loved by everyone. Deacon not so much. The grief of one mom, brings out a love hate relationship. With a steamy sweet hillside. This is fast paced sweet and sexy just the K.Sterling way
What a sweet story this was! I loved Deacon and Beck! Deacon seems the type to be all business but he had such a cute and playful side. Beck was so sweet and caring, definitely stubborn but Deacon won him over with his persistence! If you need a nice, light, fast-paced read just to break up some of the heavy...this book will be perfect for you!
Watching and waiting for Beck to get a clue has been fun. Magnus and Beck are great together and it feels like it was Maggie's plan all along. Delilah and Cade were just as funny. Delilah and Beck have such an incredible relationship...so much fun to read and see..
This was so much fun. It was interesting...kept you on the edge od your seat curious to see what was next. I lost sleep reading this because i needed to keep going haha. I loved these characters and the plot was superb. Very good job!
I loved everything about this book. It was so fun and funny as the MCs deal with the loss of the woman who was the center of their lives. All in all a very enjoyable read.
I want more of this book, I did not want it to end, I want a double wedding, double babies, beck, deacon,Delilah and case I love them💞 please consider a second book. Readers get this book you would not be disappointed👏👏🎉👊
This was my first book by K. Sterling and it definitely won't be my last. I absolutely loved Beck and Magnus and I didn't want their story to end. The secondary characters were awesome too. Loved it! Can't wait to read more from this author.
I loved this story! Beck was so understandably conflicted, confident and every bit deserving of his happiness with Magnus. I enjoyed every moment of this love story!
