I am a fan of audio books. Of course, I'm a fan of any kind of book. But an excellent performance of a book is my favorite. (Beats the heck out of tv) So when I tell you that this is an amazing performance by two talented actors, believe me. I've listened to thousands over the years. Even all the way back to cassette tapes when there were only a few books on audio.
This is the second book in the two part series and if you took my advice and had it waiting when you finished the first book you can now thank me.
Our heroine begins with many more questions than answers and almost ready to drop the whole thing, Hot British Guy (HBG) and all. But in the way of the best romantic comedies, some mishaps have occurred and the story begins to clear.
Now, can our hapless heroes find a way to keep our Hot British Linguist in the country and help them find their Happy Ending?
Excellent story with a wonderful performance.

The second one was even cuter!

My Sexy Rival definitely gave me some smut but not enough. Ugh, it's just that I know what I can get from Lauren and this was like a baby pool of it. Still enjoyed the crap out of William and Jess. I'm actually really happy that these two didn't lose anything that I loved about them from the first book.

Yes, they are still sort of rivals but the chemistry and all that jazz were still there. Ugh, they were so freaking adorable. Plus the little smutty romantic scenes were cute and I wanted more. Way freaking more.

Other than that, it's a cute duet and glad that I found it. Off to my next smuttay romance by Lauren.

Did I have any doubt Lauren wouldn’t make the second book of this duet a smashing success, heck no!
You don’t lose any of the sass, the charm or the chemistry it really is a perfect complement to book 1.

If you want to get lost in an intriguing love story this series is for you I promise you there isn’t a dull moment and you will be happy you gave it a shot.

Again the narration is just right for these characters, it really is a talent of the author to give us the right narrators to give the characters their own voices.

This duology was cute and entertaining but I didn't feel like this was a life-long romance. It was nice just no breath-taking. However, it gave me what I needed : a quick audio easy to listen to as I'm doing other things. I don't have a lot to say about this book as it takes right after the ending of the first book. The MMC still needs to find a way to stay in the States and she need to get those pictures from that wedding. I didn't expect and I'm glad I didn't really like the epilogue for that reason. It felt rushed and not believable. It felt like they just got together and they too quickly.

4.5+ stars (review for books 1 & 2 combined)
Jess Leighton is independent, sassy, sarcastic, and has a strong need to always be in control. To pay for med school, she is also a celebrity photo stalker. She tries to avoid the distractions of men since she needs to keep her focus. But she knows she can be easily be dazzled by hot boys and the sweet things in life. So she tries to put up walls of resistance to keep her out of trouble.

William Harrigan is a transplanted Brit, also in college, who just wants to find a way to stay in L.A. But in order to do that he needs to find someone to sponsor a work visa and that is easier said than done since his skill set is pretty specific. In one of his attempts, he makes the acquaintance of the the feisty Jess, but it also pits them in direct competition. Jess is determined to stay away from him., but William has other ideas.

There is sexual tension, resistance, rivalry, and hidden agendas. William is a bit of a mystery and his motivations are unclear. But eventually something comes up that they need each other for and have to work as a team. Soon they are knee deep in impossible attraction, intriguing situations, investigations and espionage.

In a world where no one is who they seem, are they both giving full disclosure? And are they together for more than just what they can do for the other?

Oh my...I loved William. First off I am a sucker for a British accent. I loved his older brother, Matthew in Far Too Tempting, but William is charismatic, funny, and sexy like him, but is a bit more rugged and unpolished. He a good guy with a bad boy edge. I was intrigued from the beginning about what he was hiding. I enjoyed his witty rapport and flirtation with Jess.

Jess took a little bit longer to warm up to. She is all about control, but she has her reasons. Her past has shown her it is a slippery slope to completely losing control and losing focus.Men and good food are her vices that she tries to avoid. But the charming Brit just might be too tempting to avoid. And when she lets go a little, she is fun, sassy, and likable.

But together they are flirty, fun, compatible, passionate, and can even be supportive. They actually make a good team. But there is so much going on under the surface, so many things changing quickly, situations that are ambiguous, and it is difficult to figure out who is friend or foe. They are two people with their own motivations who came together, but are also facing challenges under a rigid timeline.

Can these two put all of the pieces together and help themselves and others? Or will the hidden agendas and secrets ultimately ruin it all?

It made me tense, kept me guessing and wondering how it all going to come together and if it would work out. It was humorous, sweet, frustrating, mysterious, intriguing, passionate, and romantic. It was told in both Jess and William's point of views allowing us to feel their emotions and understand their fears and motivations. However, Lauren did allow William to keep a veil of mystery by not allowing us to know all of his secrets until they were fully revealed. So I kept coming up with my own various theories as I was reading.

I loved the background of the L.A. scene and famous people as well as the underlying theme of life imitating the movies. It was fun and interesting how the author bought in pop culture references and also built connections between the players. And I completely enjoyed the cameos from other Lauren Blakely books. Jess is Bryan's sister (Caught Up in Us) and William in Matthew's brother (Far Too Tempting) so of course they were involved along with their significant others, but there were other fun surprises as well. That is one of the things that always makes me smile when I read a book by Lauren Blakely since I know I might catch a glimpse of old friends. However this book can easily be read as a stand-alone. I would consider it more of a NA book, but it fits with the fun, romantic vibe of the rest of the series while also pulling in more of entertainment elements we have seen a bit of in the others but this focuses more on L.A. movie stars rather than New York, music, theater, or fashion.

I devoured this fast-paced story and was completely engaged by the characters and the twists and turns. It kept me guessing, plotting, and wondering throughout. It made me smile and even swoon a bit. I really loved the characters and their interactions. Not only with the main couple but with all of the side characters and cameos that intermingled throughout the story adding depth and interest. And William Harrigan has earned a spot on my list of sweet, sexy, adorable book boyfriends.

Overall opinion: This story has a bit more action and heat than the first book although it would barely rate an R Rating. There is some intrigue and the attraction and feelings continue to grow.

The drama towards the end was a bit over the top but, that is part of the formula.

Guess they can’t all be fabulous — so disappointed in this Blakely book — well duet. I finished this one because I’d read the first, but #1) the idea of this being a “duet” was just plain stupid — it should have just been one boring book instead of two! #2) did I mention it was just plain boring! It might be because I have no interest in the paparazzi and how they “work” — but I just didn’t like this book(s)! I was over the characters and plot by the middle of the first book.
While I normally really like Blakely, I’m sure glad this wasn’t my first taste of her or it probably would have been my last. If it’s your first taste of her — PLEASE read something else by her before you swear off — she’s got so much better stuff out there!

MY SEXY RIVAL is the second book in the Stars In Their Eyes Duet, and picks up directly after MY CHARMING RIVAL. There are a lot of reasons for Jess and William not to work out, but love and the realization of what's really important lead them to their HEA. This book is the perfect wrap up for the pair, and just as sexy, emotional, and swoon inducing as the first book. A must-read for fans of Lauren Blakely, this book will make you feel good all over!

What a delightful book 2 in the Stars In Their Eyes Duet. I so enjoyed book 1 and this story did not disappoint me. Jess and William have such chemistry and they do finally get to act on their amazing like. While everything does not go according to their plans, sometimes things happen for the exact reason that they need to. Fun easy read, and the audiobook is wonderful. I love the way Lauren Blakely writes.

Audiobook

Ok with this being the second book yes it was good. Now with that being said... I definitely feel, for me you need to read the first book before getting into this one. I would have been happier with just one book and no cliffhanger but I’m just one person. I give this 4 stars because of book 1 & 2 as. Whole. If I had started here I’d be lost but content with a happy ending and give 3 stars.

My Sexy Rival is book two in the Stars in Their Eyes Duet. This picks up where My Charming Rival left off. William and Jess are falling for each other. While they are rivals. Well, kind of! The sexiness, fun and excitement contines in this terrific ending to their story! It was also great seeing some characters from Lauren's other books ( I FLOVE that she does that!) Do not miss this duet!

Jess & William Part 2

This 2 book series started with book 1 being a cliff hanger. Not my favorite type of book but I enjoy the author's writing. Book 2 did not disappoint. There were plenty of twists and turns that were unexpected. Overall really enjoyed the story, just not the two book series continuation.

I was looking for something the cleanse my reading palette since I had just finished an exhausting read. This fit the bill and served that purpose. I wouldn't say I'd have sought it out for any other reason.

Not your typical Lauren Blakey story but just as entertaining and enjoyable. This book picks up right where the first one left off. It was intriguing, entertaining, with a beautiful ending. I absolutely enjoyed everything about this story.

Not how I thought that cliffhanger would go and that made me happy. But then just eh.

Again with the *&$%ing SAID. It has to be the writing bc even Zachary was saying them. I just can't.

I liked the 2nd part of the duet much better. It was much more satisfying as far as content and ending, but I felt the eating disorder part was a missed opportunity to delve a little deeper.

I love books that continue on with the series with different people but not the same people. This was a quick and easy romance with the exception that I had to buy two books to get to the end.
