The red dragon Letty has spent months traveling around with Dearia, a kindly elf with the fearsome title of Demon Lord. But just how did Dearia wind up as both an architect and the Lord of Darkness? It’s time for the full tale of his past to come to light: the house-hunting adventures of a young elf and a mighty black dragon!
A little bit of wholesomeness that is desperately needed right now. This entire volume is a flashback and is heavy on humor but light on wackiness. It was a good mix for me.
After a lot of things happening lately Letty has been a bit tired so Dearia offers him a chance to rest while Pip goes on a little adventure of their own. Later on Dearia shares some of his experiences growing up to a very interested Letty and possibly interested Pip. As such a majority of the book is basically just background information for our resident Dark Lord and sales associate of properties but it is not a boring tale as we see him struggling to learn all he can even as a child, how he gets to meet a powerful and ancient snake some of you may recognize as Jörmungandr, how his luck got him accepted in the position of dark lord (whether he wanted the position or not), and some of his time with the black dragon Varney who he helps find a home just as he is doing with Letty now. :)
We finally get a backstory to Dearia! Dearia has a fascinating backstory.
His Jobs My main thought about Dearia's jobs and titles happened accidentally. He has a lot of clout for someone who just stumbled upon it.
Friend from the Past Based on the cover of a future volume, it looks we will meet his friend. I really hope so, because I liked this friendship. Not sure what this friend will think of Letty.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked this series well enough before, but the fantasy tropes being poked fun at here in this volume were an absolute delight to me. I especially loved Dearia’s backstory and hope to see more of his time as “Dark Lord” at some point. This is just a really fun little fantasy series!
A really nice volume where we finally get to see Dearia's backstory and how he became both a Dark Lord and got into Real Estate. It is also really funny seeing him constantly refuse the role of a Dark Lord and seeing the reaction of everyone who wants him to become the Dark Lord. Also the Dark Dragon Varnery is pretty funny to and he serves as a great foil to Letty.
Dearia's backstory as to how he got involved in architecture and real estate and how he became the Dark Lord through dumb luck. He's not exactly Rumplestiltskin on Once Upon a Time. It's more like how Bud became King of Noland in Queen Zixi of Ix. This one gets an extra star for being less grating.
It was nice to have a backstory for Dearia, and I was a little worried that the tone would change, but the series still stayed true to itself and kept the tone light, but still meaningful. I look forward to the next segment.
