Mixed feelings.

Recommending this series is quite hard, There is so much potential in this books that are wasted due a confused and boring writing. The story is great, I really liked it and that’s why I have read all the volumes so far. The combats are well described and if you ever played a tabletop RPG, you’ll find the combats and action scenes quite good. But the problem is the amount of pages filled with nothing but repetitive sentences about how low self-esteem the main character has, or how the author repeats the same over and over in an attempt to fill pages, how plots and characters introduced are suddenly written off at the best “George Martin” style. I’m giving up with this serie, is a shame as it has so much potential.

Come on........

I love the book but it seemed so short like I finished it in a single night but I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing. Good because how much it drew me in bad that it didn't seem enough. Their are too many repeating sentences where the same sentence was use right after the other. No questions are answered and to be honest it seems like theirs no real..... Direction for the story. To be honest this can go twenty more books and we still won't have a ending. Oh well at least we can enjoy the ride.

Although the solution for last volume's problems just falls on their lap out of nowhere, I didn't care. It was classic Grimgar "nothing goes their way, whatever they get they earned it with their blood sweat and tears". I really like that about these books.
Even the Ranta chapters were really cool!

A lot happens this chapter, but a lot still left vague. Even the aftermath of the previous volume is in limbo a bit, though we get an answer to whether that characters body will at least animate with the rest of our cast for the foreseeable future.

I gotta go back and reread some of Ranta's battles. They seemed to be the heart of this novel, though Merry steals the cover from him.

Some characters get more play than others because of the nature of this episode. I'd say Jesse, Ranta, Merry, and Haruhiro were the major focus, everybody else is just sort of there.

It's an action based episode, though the part with Merry's thoughts was very intriguing. It may be a key to learning what Grimgar is, if coming back from the dead is impossible, and may be pointing to a new enemy or ally. We'll see. I'm kind of iffy on if I want Merry's soul to come back or if I'd prefer they move on with a "new" character. The former could be a bit "friendship is magic" if Haru's love calls her back, the latter would be heartbreaking.

To me, vol. 11 represents a low point in the series. These books just keep getting shorter and thinner on plot. Nothing seems to resolve, or if it does, immediately jumps to another point of tension. A bit of a slog. I say that, but I'm still invested in the characters and am eager to read the next. In the author's notes, he actually proclaims the next volume will be a brighter story.

Seems like Ranta is starting to appreciate having comrades as he’s barely surviving on his own in the Thousand Needles place.

Kazuko is now not only a tank but a crazy strong katana wielder.

Merry is now a compilation of a few souls. That makes her wise, strong, and super weird.

Just when you think things are as bad as they can get, things always get worse in Grimgar. I kinda wish Jyumonji would stick to plain killing people, because what's happening now is too cruel.
