Sometimes the real monsters are those within your own family.
Sometimes it takes an outsider like Raine to come to your rescue.
Raine Campbell has survived her first semester at the School of Necessary Magic, but only just.
Time to throw herself into her studies and get a better grasp on magic. No more close calls with spells... Especially if she wants to follow her late father's legacy and join the FBI as a witch and an agent.
Is Adrien going to get in the way of her plans?
The teen elf comes from a long line of respected guardians of humans and lesser magical beings, keeping them safe from dark magic.
So why are magicals showing up to persuade him that his family tree harbors a dark secret and is rotten all the way down to the roots?
He refuses to believe the whispering campaign.
But when Adrien is kidnapped by this nefarious gang, Raine teams up with a party of unlikely allies determined to rescue her friend.
Orphan Witch is a breathtaking tale of spells, secrecy and not being kept behind after school.
They say everyone is the hero of their own story. Or are they really the villain?
Team up with Raine for this second spectacular story in the School of Necessary Magic series.
Judith Berens is a figment of your imagination, made up of the fevered brainpower of Michael Anderle and Martha Carr, fueled by a lot of people helping them out - as well as all of you, The Fans. Great stories mixed with a lot of great readers equals more adventures to follow.
Skimmed this one a lot. Kindle Unlimited authors need to be prolific and have page count to make money. So, one of the page count items brought over from the first book is to have the kids watch old horror movies and comment on them - for pages - as though the authors had friends over, watched the movies and recorded - then transcribed that to the book. Multiple movie sessions in this book. Otherwise, I’d call these simple grade school level fun - except that grade school kids wouldn’t have a clue about the movies. Also multiple game sessions (not Quidditch, but...). Both books are innocuous, as though a good friend said I’d like to spend time in Harry Potter’s world with nothing bad happening. So, there’s lots of spending time in the day to day with just a smidge of a story.
All that said, cute (it fits), entertaining light reads.
I'm happy to say that this second book of the Raine Campbell series was much better than the first.
Unfortunately, too much of it was still filled up with commentary on horror movies again - a rather more mature commentary than I'd expect from teenagers, I have to say.
Plus those games of Louper - why does there ALWAYS have to be long,, drawn out, games in YA books?
Mind you, at least with this game, there's plenty of variety in the scenery - I absolutely loathe it, every time I read the Harry Potter books, and there's pages of description of Quidditch - I can't bear the game, I have to admit! Lol
When I was a YA myself, I avoided any games like the plague though, like Raine, my to-go spot would always be the Library! Lol
I have to say that the plot was good in this one, and the rescue scene showed how all of our plucky students had worked hard in their study of both potions and spells, and this came in very handily, too.
I'm also happier about continuing to read this series now - although I don't really look forward to the upcoming constant horror movie commentary, nor the Louper games that I see in my future!
But, as my reading list tells me, I'm now off to read book three of this series: 'Special Witch of the FBI', and, once I'm done, as usual, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it, without, hopefully, giving out any spoilers!
Follow along as the second group of students finish their first year at the school of necessary magic
Extraordinarily entertaining series. Just like the first group of students that graduated from the school of necessary magic. This group of next students learn to control their magic find adventures in and around the school. Get into trouble save each other and strive to become the best magic users out there. Thank harry potter but on a rotating basis you follow each group from their freshman year to their senior year and see what I change they get it to him. I hope this rotating series continues forever after each graduating class a new one can start again with all new adventures. Check them all out
Another good story. I am please with the series on story, but wish it was written a little better.
The story seem full of fluff and minor adventures, but it does give a good sense of the chaos of life and the fact that there are the little moments of happiness that go with the huge story. The scenes that impress me the most are the movie discussion scenes because that is what my friends and i would do when we were that age.
The issue I have with this is the face it is poorly written. There are even inconsistences within the story because of this. The multiple POV is confusing at times and the overall impact of the story is reduced because it lacks focus.
Final thoughts: Good read, poorly written, but overall an enjoyable book.
Great Cover! I did find this one a teeny bit better, I understand there needs to be a certain amount of pages but I might be the only one who hates Louper? I just think it's a waste of pages and it's reminiscent of quidditch, but what does it do for the characters? At least in quidditch, Harry got to develop self-confidence.
Unfortunately, this book was written in some places, quite poorly, there seem to be inconsistencies in the book, the book lacked focus, making the multiple POVs abrupt and jarring. I still really enjoyed it, after all, I think this is a middle grade-Teen book.
I found this book to be as good as if not better than the first. The characters are becoming more defined and relationships are developing. Raine is coming into her magic. Her self-confidence keeps growing, allowing her magic to become stronger. Her intelligence and her determination to become an agent of the FBI, as well as her desire to protect others, will serve her well.
Oh, I absolutely love the fact that she loves to read, especially to learn to enhance and expand her magic. She needs back off a bit to avoid burn out. Read a fiction book once in a while!
The gang are back, and more mischief and mystery abounds. We see little hints of a sub-plot, but are left guessing. There are many wise lessons here for teens and adults alike.
Dorvu is fun, of course, and keeps us entertained. We see the teens learn more about magic, themselves, and how to work together. I like that there’s just as much for adults in this book as there is for teens.
Carr and Enderle, what can I say, but, when these two got together to write books, what an absolute fantastic decision that was!!! This book is as good as the first book in the Oriceran Universe series, which makes it a definite read. I love how the characters grow and develop and show how important their friendships are to each other. There were laughs aplenty in this book which helped when the good turned to bad. Bring on the next book!
I like the fact that you made Raine a reader and someone who thrives on learning. The interaction and acceptance that the group of kids has is really positive. The story was interesting but the adventure of rescuing Adrien was thrilling. The gnomes and pixies bring a lot of fun to the mix. It's a good read to escape to another place. Could use some more action. The movie night are extremely funny.
Another fine young adult book with lots of good times, great recipes, a little tiny bit of danger, and not much else. If I was to characterize this best I would say it's a nice wholesome adventure story full of teenagers who like to have fun. Not a great deal of magic almost no mystery just good clean fun.
This was a grand adventure. I absolutely fell in love with Raine. She is amazing, smart, resourceful and confident. I like that she started a relationship and how adorable it was. I am really getting involved with the characters and can’t wait to see about the next year.
Ok overall. The second book in the series introduce, what I think is the main plot, much later in the book and it really doesn't seem like the characters need to work that hard to overcome it.
This book seems to be more in the younger adult fiction realm based on character development and the simplistic plot.
Book 2 of the new group of students in the School of Necessary Magic. The characters are really coming alive. So much more to come in their semesters to come. Love the April Fools prank.
Great addition to an outstanding series. Good continuity with the first ( Allison ) Series. Especially with the many carry over characters. Dorvu is among my favorites . Waiting for the next book. Happy Holidays and a healthy and amazing 2019 to everyone.
A really enjoyable, easy to read, interesting book. I wasn’t sure I’d get into the latest magic school series, but although familiar, it is also new and and keeps you entertained.
Love this series too! The friends are working together to help each other. There is a group trying to get to one of them. You are going to have to read to find out what happens next!
I really like Raine and her friends. The relationships are interesting as they develop. I especially like Raine’s and Leo’s. I like getting to know the gnomes more. the dragon and the cupcakes was hilarious! Great job! Keep’m comin’!
This book is a bit slow to start, the first 3/4 are filled with ‘fluff’, yes it’s following Raine in her journey at the school, but zombie movies only hold so much interest! I’m hoping the next book has a bit more oomph, and a bit more action.
This little group of authors has to have close to 500 combines with their shared endeavors. The overlapping and offshoots are as intriguing and enjoyable ad the original starting points.
Far to much of this book included repetitive seens of high school movie watching and very little actual magical adventure. Better suited to the adolescent mindset
Perhaps targeted at an age a bit younger but still a nice story. Raine is getting stronger and a little romance has entered her life. Looking forward to more.
The adventure continues! The students begin their second semester, of course school is never easy. The friends rally together to save one of their own.
boring Hours of kids talking about cooking and zombie movies. three minutes of student wizards in a boring battle. If you want a poor copy of the Harry Potter type stories here it is.
