A Crown For Christmas

Rate this book
The first time I met Fitz or to most of the world Duke Fitzegerald Heraldo Belleville, I punched him in the throat.
I was actually aiming for his chin, but he was a few years older, clearly not wiser, but at least taller.
He started wheezing on his candy cane.
And well, the rest is history.
Hate replaced what could have been friendship, and for the rest of my teen years, I watched him flirt with every single breathing female.
I hated him.
Plotted his death with a smile on my face.
And knew that my first decree as Queen would be to chop off his head.
Except now that I'm finally old enough to inherit the title, there's one tiny little slip-up.
I need a man by my side.
The problem?
I may have accidentally scared them all away.
I have no options.
Until the devil rings my doorbell with a wicked grin on his face and revenge dancing like sugarplums in his gaze.
I hate that I need him.
It's a serious problem.
We have twelve days before we say I do.
I just pray we survive without killing each other first.

A Crown For Christmas by Rachel Van Dyken was a sweet, refreshing, romantic, swoony book that was exactly what I needed right now. Do you enjoy watching Christmas Hallmark movies? If you do, you will love this book. It’s one of those books that after you finish it, you just feel better, like the world outside is a little bit brighter. That’s what it did for me, anyway. I loved every page of this.

christmas castle in the snow

Crown Princess Phillipa Marjory Answorth is next in line for the crown. She has lived her life knowing the responsibility that awaited her. She had dedicated herself to being ready to be Queen. The only problem was that in order to accept the crown, she had to be married. And somehow, she had managed to run off every suitor she’s ever had.

cinderella's wedding

Royal Crown Duke Fitzgerald (Fitz) Geraldo Belleville has known Phillipa since they were little. The problem was, they were enemies. Ever since Phillipa was twelve and Fitz was fifteen, and she tried to stab him with a candy cane, they had loathed each other. It’s a funny thing, though, about two people that have spent their childhood finding every possible way to aggravate the other. Perhaps they were looking for any possible way to get the attention of the other?

Thorn chairs with gold/silver accents.king and Queen wedding celebration.

It’s been fifteen years since the candy cane stabbing incident. It’s only twelve days until Christmas. It seems that Fitz and Phillipa’s mothers have figured a way for Phillipa to be ready to accept the crown. They have decided who her perfect husband would be. Only it’s the last person on earth that Phillipa wants to be married to.

“I liked the way she felt in my arms. I liked the way we felt together.”

couple riding horses in the snow

As Fitz and Phillipa begin to spend time together, they both realize that they have misjudged each other. They also realize that all of that bantering, arguing and whatever else they did over all those years, was really a deep attraction between them. Fitz loved every layer he was able to uncover of Phllipa and he began to wonder why he never recognized what this was between them long ago. How could he not have realized that he had this beautiful, intelligent woman right in front of him all this time?

“All my life I’d thought I had nobody. All my life, my only enemy had been my only friend.”

Playing in the snow

I just loved every page of this book. Fitz and Phillipa were adorable. Fitz was everything you could hope for in a future King. Before he even realized the depth of his feelings, he had already vowed to make Phillipa’s life easier for her, to make sure she had fun, to keep her on her toes, to be by her side in all things. I really needed this right now and am so glad I found this book. The scenery was breathtaking and the characters had me melting. If you want a feel good, make you smile, make your heart happier book, then this one is definitely for you.

“What if it’s not real?”
“What if it is?”

This was just an ok read for me but it could just be that I was distracted with the holidays going on! I found my mind wandering a lot as I was reading this. The story itself was a cute one and great for the holiday season!

A Crown for Christmas by Rachel Van Dyken was my first book by the author. It was a funny, sweet and cute Christmas novella.

Princess Phillipa was the soon to be Queen. She was beautiful, independent and sassy. Her father, the King, had died of a heart attack and Phillipa would soon be the Queen, but the law required she marry first. She always thought she would marry for love but love never happened.

Prince Fitz. I loved everything about Fitz. He was gorgeous, humorous and the class clown; but underneath it all, he was also thoughtful, serious and caring - characteristics that were hidden behind his care free humor.

I loved everything about this sappy story. Both characters were loveable and awesome. Their bantering was fun. Van Dyken made several references to Hallmark movies and that was exactly what I felt like I just read. It was quick, sappy, sweet, funny and a perfect holiday read.

A Crown for Christmas easily became one of my favorite Christmas books!  With enemies to lovers, irresistible banter, a forced marriage and snow falling how could I not fall madly in love with this story?!  The prologue pulled me in and I was so addicted that I didn't put my kindle down until I read that last page.  I can't recommend this book enough!
He stared at my mouth and then licked his lips like he wanted a taste, but that would be ridiculous. He hated me. I loathed him. It worked for us.
I shivered and looked away.

Princess Phillipa was expected to be Queen, but the law dictated that she had to be married first.  Unfortunately she had run all of the possible suitors away, except one.  Duke Fitzgerald Heraldo Belleville, aka Fitz.  But where Fitz was concerned, there was one tiny problem.  They had been enemies since they were children.  We got to watch them, in the past, and the things they did and said to one another was horrifically awful.  Yet I laughed so much.  And in the present day, we witnessed a proposal and Phillipa being informed that a wedding would take place in twelve days.  To her archnemesis.  What's a princess to do?
I hated the way he stared at me too long.
The way his perfect emerald eyes lingered like he was mentally mocking me and doing a bang up job of it.
But most of all, I hated that he was beautiful.

The story alternated between Phillipa and Fitz and I loved them both so much!  Phillipa was strong and level headed.  She was a generous and loving princess.  And I could easily see her being a role model and someone others could look up to as their Queen.  Yet the moment Fitz was around, she couldn't help but find herself butting heads with him.
Her grin was pure evil. I had half a mind to kiss it off her face just to even the playing field, shock the hell out of her, and get to taste the peppermint all in one fell swoop. Pity her lips were probably poison.

Fitz could be such a trouble maker, but the man was as clever as he was seductive.  He just had this way with people that made you instantly like him.  Well except Phillipa lol.  Fitz was thoughtful, witty, smart, devious and oh so quick with his replies.  I was obsessed.  And to Phillipa's dismay, she started to see those qualities in Fitz too.  Especially when he helped her get her way at times.  It was impossible to ignore his charm, even if Phillipa was bantering with Fitz in that next moment.
My body tightened. “I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to pull someone’s hair more in my entire life, not in an effort to chase them, but to pull them so closely to my chest that all I feel is their skin, their breath, and maybe a soft moan of pleasure.”
Her eyes flickered to my mouth, and her lips parted. “This is crazy.”

Regardless of how much they hated each other, you could still feel the attraction burning between them.  But when the gloves came off and they played nice, was it truly sincere?  Could they really trust each other?  I loved watching the intricacies of their relationship unfold.  Together they were swoon worthy and I was addicted with all of their interactions.  It was so easy to fall for them!
“What changed?” I hooked my arm in his as we started walking.
“Everything,” he whispered under his breath.

If you're looking for a romantic and hilarious Christmas story, then definitely add A Crown for Christmas to your tbr!  This may be RVD's funniest book yet, but there were also a few moments I didn't see coming.....so there was no stopping my gasps.  With fabulous characters, addictive banter and a wonderful story line, this book was such a winner!  I loved it so much!

O no?

This was a fun Christmas read!
The blurb was what sold me! I love enemies to lovers it's a weakness of mine. This wasn't different it was so so good! Even though I don't really like reading about kings and queens, princesses and princes. Don't get me wrong I read about those, but those aren't a favorite of mine.

I would encourage everyone to start reading this one it is so good!! It is fun, and not very long!

Noooo I need an epilogue!

I'm a complete daddy's girl and every mention of Phillipa's father, the late King, I started crying. Their father-daughter relationship was so beautiful.

Fitz and Phillipa were the funniest, cutest "enemies". I loved how Fitz never overshadowed her and treated her like the queen she was destined to be. Phillipa was so playfully vicious. They constantly joked about her causing Fitz bodily harm and murdering him in his sleep once they were married. So freakin' hilarious. The romance was relatively slow and their love and lust for each other grew at a constant pace.

The biggest thing I was worried about when I started this book was that Phillipa would be a sheltered virgin and Fitz a manwhore playboy. I shouldn't have worried that much because neither appeared to be true.

This book had it all; sparks, sexiness, confidence, slow seduction, charm, and strong characters who are not afraid to go for what they want.

3 CANDY CANE STARS 🍭

I usually do not read holiday themed romance books. I just haven't been really in the holiday spirits lately so I decided to try out some holiday reads. Generally, they have been pleasant, sweet (some sweet enough to give toothache), and relatively short reads.

Story Plot:

Phillipa (h) has loathed Fitz (H) who is a Duke and close family friend all her life. These two are notorious for pranking each other and well just being at each other throats. With her mother being last to reign and very old, she is forced to marry soon. Specifically, they follow the whole when she takes the official title as queen she needs a king by her side.

ARCHAIC RULE AT ITS FINEST HERE Y'ALL.

Anyways, she has shot down every man that was a potential match for her leaving one left... that being Fitz. It starts out arranged that they will marry but unspoken feelings finally rear their heads and the two finally cease fires.

This story includes. . .

🎁 a arranged marriage
🎁 Enemies-to-lovers trope
🎁 Modern day royalty
🎁 sugary sweet moments between MC

Overall~

I know they teased about watching Hallmark movies but this book truly felt like one of those movies which I feel was intentional of the writer. The story itself was wholesome with a cookie cutter perfect HEA.

Lastly, this book is generally low for a steam factor and the two characters (main h - 27/main H - 30) act rather childish most of the time which I was not the biggest fan of, tbh.

3.5⭐ Beautiful Written, favorite quote "love her well. love her right.... love her the way she deserves and never forget that you are the lucky one. Not her."She must be married to be queen, He needs to fix his reputation, and they hate each other, but love always wins, funny and charming story for the holiday, easy and fast read, the only complaint is that the dialogue between both felt like college drama not like 30years old adult.

***4,5 "Candy cane killer!!!" stars***

"Be good.
Be fair.
Be humble.
Be hers."

That was a very pleasant surprise by RVD!!!!
A christmas modern fairytale about a hate/love relationship???? Yes, please!!! Give me some...
And what a wonderful ride, even though it was short!!!!
Usually, i don't enjoy short novels very much, because i think that because the pages are not too many are lacking in the development of the story, but here, that wasn't the case!!!
It was absolutely perfect and I loved every single moment of it!!!

Well, Phillipa was about to be a queen very soon and she was in need of a husband... since she was a difficult person and all the candidates left running!!!!
So, her mother is taking the matter in her hands and is bringing her Fitz to be her future husband... The last solution... The only solution...
But there is a tiny- huge(!) problem with that match from heaven...
Phillipa and Fitz are hating each other's guts since they were kids and Phillipa almost killed Fitz with a candy cane!!! LOL!!!
But maybe all this hatred between them means something much more???

"He stared at my mouth and then licked his lips like he wanted a taste, but that would be ridiculous. He hated me. I loathed him. It worked for us." {Phillipa}

"How had I missed that?...
Had that always existed?
Had I always wanted to explore the viper's nest just to see if I was immune to the bites?"
{Fitz}

God, I loved both Fitz and Phillipa!!! The interactions between them were so funny...
Honestly, i couldn't understand how those two hadn't realized all these years that they were meant to be together!!!!
And they falling was a really lovely thing to witness!!!
Philippa was feisty and a firecraker... Fitz was very playful and witty!!!
They were so perfect for each other and because of their past, it didn't feel strange to me the pace that the things were moving between them!!!

"All my life, I'd thought I had nobody.
All my life, my only enemy had been my only friend."

A feisty and sweet holiday romance...

Princess Philippa is going to have to marry in order to be Queen. She never imagined her only choice would be her arch nemesis Fritz. The man who has thrived on challenging her since they were young. The handsome, sarcastic, charming, and funny one. And Phillipa is as stubborn and fiery as she is smart and caring. I just loved these two! They had such fun banter, but there was this underlying connection. I liked seeing them come to realizations about their own feelings and history.

This novella is packed with swoons, smiles, and feels. An enjoyable little holiday read that leaves you feeling like you just watched a royal Hallmark movie.

OUTRAGEOUSLY ADORABLE!!!
Title: A Crown For Christmas
Author: Rachel Van Dyken
Designation: Novella Length(140 pages), Standalone Contemporary Holiday Romantic Comedy #enemiestolovers
My Rating: Five Outrageously Cute Stars*****

OMG, I loved, loved, loved A Crown For Christmas by Rachel Van Dyken! Every year from November through January, I gorge on Christmas stories. I devour every single one I can get my hands on. I may be an old bird (almost 70 years young), but I simply can't get enough of the ooey-gooey goodness of a heartwarming love story set during my favorite holiday. What can I say? I'm still a sappy romantic at heart. I'm also a diehard Rachel Van Dyken fan and have been for years, so when I discovered she was releasing a holiday romantic comedy, I couldn't wait to get it in my hot little hands. And Van Dyken didn't disappoint! Hands down, A Crown For Christmas is one of my top five holiday reads for the season! This delicious bite of Christmas perfection is indicative of everything I've come to expect and love from Rachel Van Dyken. A Crown For Christmas is exceptionally well crafted from cover to cover with a beautifully written, clearly defined first-person his and her narrative, an engaging storyline, a cast of endearing characters, and snappy dialogue that will have you laughing out loud. This story may be short, coming in at approximately 140 pages, but it packs quite an emotional punch. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists, Royal Crown Duke Fitzgerald Heraldo Belleville and Royal Crown Princess Phillipa Marjory Answorth. OMG, Fitz and Phillipa were an absolute riot! These two childhood enemies are now all grown up and still detest each other. Or so they claim and a little too vehemently if you ask me! But you know what they say - there's a very thin line between love and hate, and Fitz and Phillipa both wobbled precariously over that line and it was such fun watching them wobble! I'll never look at a candy cane again without giggling! lol... You'll just have to read the book! No spoilers from me, but I will say this... Beautiful and highly intelligent twenty-seven-year-old goody-two-shoes princess with an extremely bad temper and a daunting load of responsibility on her soon to be queenly shoulders-check! A cheeky, charismatic thirty-year-old royal bad boy who is so much more than he seems-check! A country in need of a monarch-check! A coronation delayed by a pesky little marriage stipulation-check! A lot of humor, a little angst, a lesson in responsibility and what's really important from an unlikely source-check! An unexpected proposal-check! And a surprising and all-consuming love story that will tickle your funny bone and melt your heart-absolutely! That and a whole lot more!

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED! Will I read this author again? Definitely! Rachel Van Dyken is one of my favorites! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am! There's no profanity and very mild but sensual sex scenes I would rate at 2.5 flames. A Crown for Christmas is a lighthearted, feel-good, laugh-out-loud funny Christmas Romance novella with all the feels! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I giggled, snickered, snorted, sniffled, and sighed through the entire story but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, and well entertained. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

I started reading this book as a joke, but for my surprise it wasn't bad. It wasn't the best book ever, but it was okay. It definitely felt like one of those cheesy christmas movies, which the author said it will, so expectations fulfilled I guess

Very funny.
Also quite emotional at times.
This is a lovely story.
When it started I wasn't too keen as it seemed as though Fritz had a manwhore reputation but it's not as it seems.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
No cheating.
Excellent banter.
HEA.

‘Kisses are like treasure. A wise man will invest, save. He’ll be cautious whom he shares his treasure with. You see, the person must be worthy of the treasure, but you also don’t want to be the sort of person to forget the value of it as well. When you share your kisses with a woman whose name you don’t even know, you don’t value the treasure you’re sharing or what you’ve been given in the first place. The treasure, you see, loses its value, and so do you.’”

“Now, why did you want to see me, and why is Satan visiting during the day? You know how he worships darkness.”

She fell asleep in my arms.
Snoring.
I took one video and two pictures.
Blackmail for later; old habits die hard, and I’d like to think part of our special relationship included the competitiveness and teasing between us.

I truly, truly laughed out loud at how this couple were outplayed without a lot of effort from those who did the deed.

After all the years of taunts, tears and downright atrocious behavior towards each other now 30-year-old Fitz and 27-year-old Phillipa find out the truth that everyone else already suspected.

Love and hate are two sides of a coin that can either tear a personal relationship to shreds or keep it alive turning into something stronger than steel when you weren't looking.

Attraction, chemistry, shared childhood experiences and more have finally brought together a most unlikely duo willing to do their royal duty.

Luckily duty takes a backseat when the combatants lay down a truce finally admitting defeat and letting love triumph.

A testimony to Hallmark indeed when the lady is swept off her feet by the very man she never realized was actually one she had waited for her whole life and he was right there the whole time.
