Bitten at Daybreak by Deanna Chase is the third tale in the Last Witch Standing series. Phoebe Kilsen has been searching for her brother, Seth for the last eight years. She has finally found him and finds herself in an alternate reality. Phoebe is unable to cross back over because her doppelganger slipped through and took her place. She hopes that Dax will be able to notice the difference and come searching for her. Phoebe must keep her wits about her while in this alternate world. The alternate Phoebe is married to Eadric Allcot, the vampire and Phoebe wants to avoid his bed (and his fangs) at all costs as well as his wrath. Dax is worried when Phoebe fails to show up for work or take his calls. When shifters are being murdered by a witch, Dax fears Phoebe is behind the killings. Find out what happens to Phoebe in Bitten at Daybreak.

Bitten at Daybreak is a fast-paced paranormal romantic suspense novel (that is a mouthful). It picks up where Bloodlust by Midnight ends with Phoebe following Seth into an alternate reality. I recommend reading the Last Witch Standing series in order. It will help you understand the characters and how Phoebe ended up in her current predicament. I found Bitten at Daybreak to contain good writing with a fast pace. There are strong characters in the book that include witches, fae, shifters and vampires. The point-of-view switches between worlds. Phoebe in the alternate universe and Dax in their world. The two storylines tie together, and I like how everything was wrapped up at the end. I especially appreciated the epilogue. It was nice to see Phoebe develop as a person. She is still her strong, determined self but Phoebe comes to some realizations regarding her relationship with Dax (I do not want to spoil the book for you). I do want readers to know that there is foul language, extreme violence and steamy intimate scenes. Phoebe and Dax are in for blood-tingling adventure in Bitten at Daybreak.

Oh my stars! This book both broke my heart and made it soar. Phoebe has to deal with the place she found herself in after the events at the end of the previous book. And it’s so different yet so similar, she doesn’t know how to deal with the people. But deal with them she must so she can get back to her own people. Vague? Yes, because I don’t want to spoil this wonderful book. I have come to greatly admire this author’s writing, and this book is one of the reasons why: characters to love, a plot to get wrapped up in, and fantastic writing. I was pulled in immediately and didn’t want to come up for air until the book was over. Speaking of the book being over, I hope there is so much more to come even if the plot wrapped up in this one. I highly recommend this book! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

AudioBook Review:
Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 4

Phoebe has spent ages looking for her brother - and thinks that this time she may have found an answer. Taking her searches everywhere, she’s finally found Seth, but she’s stuck in this alternate universe and can’t get back. The Alternate Phoebe is married to the vampire Eadric, and while Phoebe’s stuck here, she’s also got to avoid him as best she can. Meanwhile, back in her own world, Phoebe’s alter-ego is causing mayhem – shifters are dying at unusual rates, and Phoebe’s love interest, Dax, is seeing all signs pointing to Phoebe being the culprit. But it doesn’t make sense to him – because his Phoebe would never……or would she?

Told in Phoebe’s voice in her alternate universe, and Dax’s in his – the pacing is fast, the story lines and characters arrive quickly and fully formed, and the dangers for both Phoebe and Dax are never-ending. Seth is the joiner in this one – as he helps to discover the portal creation, keeps Phoebe alive in her very real danger living with Eadric, and learns some things about her own powers, her strength and her concerns about just how well she and Dax mesh – will he understand that the Phoebe he’s with now isn’t her? Lots to unpack in this story – plenty of revelations and growth for Phoebe, and some real revelations between she, her brother, her relationship with Eadric and her relationship with Dax. It was a struggle coming into the story without having the background information – but the action, romance, adventure and questions were engaging and kept my interest flowing – ready to start at the beginning and dive into Phoebe’s world.

Narration for this story is provided by Traci Odom and it is my first encounter with her work. Her voice is pleasant and easy to understand, with pacing and adjustments for actions beyond the story to take hold. Her adjustment in tone and delivery to present characters makes sense and provides everyone with a distinct ‘personality’ that feels natural and possible for who they are and what sort of stress they are under at the moment. Clearly presented, she’s given the story wings and doesn’t rush or over-play moments that are needed to move the story forward.

I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Tantor Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Well, that was interesting, I was intrigued at the end of the previous book as to where Deanna Chase was heading with Phoebe crossing realities but wow that story certainly kept me guessing and exceeded my expectations greatly.

I have to say in the beginning I was full of angst how was our Phoebe going to handle the alternative reality and how would our Dax handle a different Phoebe, would he know this one wasn't his... omg the angst was real and gut-churning stuff I loved it all...lol

Finally getting the story about Seth and sorting out both realities, figuring out how the portals came to be and then tieing it all together took some serious storytelling it was really amazing and just made me love Phoebe even more than I already did, our Phoebe is a total badass.

This is a great addition to this series. I couldn’t put the down. I don’t want to say too much for fear of giving seething away. I was kept on the edge of my seat in anticipation, surprised and so much more. I do suggest reading this series in order for best enjoyment.

Phoebe Kilsen was temporarily trapped in an alternate universe and could not return to her world unless the woman who took her place came back. Only her brother Seth knew who she really was but warned her to remain silent for now or Eadric Allcot would kill her. It was rather ironic since Phoebe was a vampire hunter and Allcot, her husband in this reality, was a vampire! Every time he touched her thigh under the table, she was ready to kill him.

After helping with the dishes, Phoebe went upstairs to the room she allegedly shared with Allcot. Her thoughts turned to Dax, her shifter partner she loved and wanted to return to. Was he with that other Phoebe? Would he realize it wasn’t the Phoebe he knew? How would she avoid Allcot tonight? She found an adjoining room with familiar magic and was relieved. As she read through an unfamiliar spell, something cold touched the pulse in her neck! She hadn’t heard Allcot come in and step up behind her. She shoved him back as she said his name – only to have him grab her and announce that she was not Phoebe because she never called him ‘Allcot’. Then he bit her neck and drank from her until he threw her against the wall in a rage!

Dazed, Phoebe heard him ask who she had been drinking from? Her blood tasted of others. She remembered the transfusion she had gotten after her bullet wound back in her world. How could she control this escalating situation? Seth had told her Allcot thought they were trying for kids, so she told him the taste was from herbs the healer used to increase her fertility. He was immediately regretful of his actions and tried to kiss her. She shoved him back and used this situation to tell him she wanted no part of him and refused to sleep in his bed. He was angry, but at least she had postponed having to deal with his lust. When Seth came to see her, he told her Allcot maybe wasn’t’ as bad as she thought. The raid tomorrow on Clio La Doux’s castle would free many women Clio had forced into prostitution. So Allcot was trying to do some good. And if that didn’t convince her, he gave her the list the vampire Kai had prepared for him of those Clio had entrapped – the name at the top of the list was her best friend Willow Rhoswen!

Back in the “other world”, Dax is definitely noticing some strange things and is becoming suspicious of Phoebe. It’s hard to reconcile the Phoebe he cares for with the one he suspects could be murdering shifters with a death spell. How will he find out the truth? What can he do to fix things again?

This was another well-written, wonderful book from Deanna Chase, the third book in the Last Witch Standing series. The reader is dealing with so many possible outcomes in both universes as Allcot prepares to battle Clio La Doux in one while Dax tries to determine who is killing the shifters in the other universe. Phoebe’s fate is also up in the air until they can get her doppelgänger to return to swap places – assuming that’s a wise move with the suspicious murders! The story lines in both worlds are exciting and fast-paced. The characters are familiar but maybe not in the same way now! This is a seriously good story that you won’t want to miss!

In the paranormal world you can expect the unexpected and that is exactly what happened to Phoebe as she searched for her brother Seth. One minute she was walking along in her world and the next…she was in a parallel universe and her doppelganger disappeared into the portal on her way to Phoebe’s world. Seth explains to our Phoebe what his and has happened and that is where the story gets…interesting. Phoebe must take on the persona of her doppelganger to survive in this crazy, new existence and it will take all of her strength to do it. Meanwhile, the other Phoebe, being happy to escape the maddening world that her twin is now stuck in, is causing havoc and Dax and the Void are besides themselves trying to find her and figure out just what she is up to. Things do get crazier as the story unfolds and all you can do is hold on and hope for the best for all of the parties involved.
Deanna Chase has once again continued the storyline of one of my favorite paranormal series and sucked me into this amazing world of witches, shifters, fae and vampires. Her magical story telling is wonderfully entertaining and filled with wonderful characters. Some you come to love and some, well not like so much. I can say without hesitation that anyone looking for an enjoyable story should get The Last Witch Standing series and enter this preternatural world of magic.

She found her brother--at what cost?

Phoebe found herself in another world--strange--yet familiar. She hadn't had time to talk to her brother before she was forced into a role that was her but wasn't.

While Dax, her partner, wondered what had happened to her? Where was she? Why didn't she contact him? When she'd been spotted at the last place he expected he had to wonder if the injury she'd sustained had unknown effects.

Meanwhile, Phoebe began to see more of her friends and enemies--but not them? It took a conversation with her brother to get the explanation she wouldn't believe if she hadn't witnessed proof.

For more, you'll need to read so no spoilers here. Would the price of getting her brother be too high?

WOW! I knew at the end of Bloodlust By Midnight that this book was going to be epic, and I was so right! This book, third in the series, is a curveball to everything we thought we knew in this universe. Phoebe swaps places with her other self from an alternate universe in order to get some answers from her estranged brother but she discovers so much more. Will she ever make it back to her real life and Dax and the Void or will she have to languish in a world not her own? I love the world building in this series and to find that there is yet another dimension just shows the utter creativity of this author. I love these characters so much. This is a great series to get immersed in!

Loved this one! I had been waiting for this book, after reading the ending of the previous one, and I was not disappointed!

I love that Phoebe didn't change who she was, even though so much was different (yet also kind of the same). Dax still tried to think the best of her, even though he really wasn't sure what to make of everything that was happening around him.

This whole story was a great read and I couldn't put it down. I'm so looking forward to what comes next.

I was so eager to get started on third book, and the author didn’t disappoint. It was so good!! I literally binged the last two books on the same day. It was that good!! I was on the edge of my seat listening to the audiobook. It was certainly a page turner, and I was intrigued by the portals. The way the author weaved both worlds and characters was interesting.
I’m so happy for Phoebe, and to see that her search has come to a end. Overall very happy and excited for all of the characters.

A fast paced paranormal book full of vampires, shifters, witches and more. This book picks up right where the previous book (Bloodlust by Midnight) ended. It takes place in two alternate universes with Phoebe having been sent to the "other side". The book is fun to read but it does contain adult language and situations. I have yet to be disappointed by any books written by Ms. Chase.

Outstanding

This was exactly what I was looking for. I got all the answers and it ended exactly how I wanted it to. The author really out did herself writing this series. I was completely enthralled and kept wanting more. I have told plenty of people read this series. Bravo!!!! Now on to more from this author.

Recommend This Series To Anyone

Absolutely loved this series and the characters in it. I wasn't sure how this book was going to end but know Deanna Chase was going to make it good. She did not disappoint! If you haven't read Crescent City Fae first start there before you read this series.

Last book was a disappointment

I loved the first two books and couldn't wait to read the last one. But I guess third times not always a charm, just to much back and forth. I made myself finish the book but it was on where near as the 5 star first 2 books. Not a great ending but for people that work together as good as it gets I guess.

DEANNA CHASE & HER WITCHES & VAMPS

What is not to love about her books! She keeps you on your toes guessing what is going to happen next. Take a hint from a devoted lover of all the Deanna Chase books. Read one and you will be hooked.
She also writes about other genres.
Happy reading.

I think this was the weakest of the three books, Dax and Phobe (the real one) spent most of the book apart, with Phobe in an alternate universe and Dax chasing her doppelgänger who’s committing murder around the city. The resolution was fine, it would have been more meaningful to have the main couple spend more than two chapters together in THE LAST BOOK to make their HEA more meaningful

I love Ms Chase`s books. This series is quite fascinating. I had a hard time getting into this book due to the parallel universes with similar characters. But once I did I couldn't put it down. Good book.

I am not a fan of alternate realities, but I will give this storyline the credit it deserves: it was very creative and entertaining. There are so many times you think things are so messy there won't be a way for it to get cleared up. But the author pulls through with a good tale and a sweet HEA.

Lost and Found

Phoebe's brother Seth, who was missing for eight years suddenly appears and the disappears. When she goes looking for him, disaster happens. No cliffhanger and a hea. Wonderful series. Hope the author will write books for the other characters.

Much better than expected

I don’t enjoy parallel dimensions (or time travel which isn’t part of this book) so I wasn’t expecting to like this book but I wanted to finish the series to see how it turned out. I was pleasantly surprised and totally enjoyed the story.
