A two-book set that supports those who want to inspire teams toward optimal performance or develop an individual leadership style Guidance for more effective leadership can be found in Reframing Organizations. The book presents a four-frame model of powerful ideas. The model is based on decades of social science research within a range of fields. Updates in this sixth edition include coverage of cross-sector collaboration, generational differences, globalization, sustainability, and more. A second book in this set, Practicing Leadership Principles and Applications, examines leadership approaches, as it also encourages the development of personal leadership styles. The book looks at various aspects and applications of leadership, with an awareness of ethical and cultural considerations.
I found this to be incredibly impactful. I read it for a course I am taking and believe it will have a strong impact on my leadership journey and my career. The lessons are applicable to life, as well. It's long, with long chapters, which can feel a bit overwhelming. But it reads pretty well. It's not overly "textbook-y." I found it compelling and useful.
I am really loving learning about organizational structure and leadership within that structure. This is a comprehensive, data-driven but reader-friendly overview of this field of inquiry with a very tightly focused thesis woven throughout. I would call this a seminal work in this field. I will read it again I'm certain.
Anti-indigenous and racist language that is glossed over. The book is very white centered and the minimal attempts to encompass equity, diversity, and inclusion are weak and performative. The framing methods are useful to a certain extent but nearly all examples are Fortune 500 companies which are mostly un-relatable.
Very informative & important! I had to read this book for a class for my graduate program, but I am SO GLAD that I read this book in its entirety because there are so many important lessons that need to be remembered when you are a person leading an organization.
This is another book I read for one of my doctoral courses. I enjoyed this book. It is one of the better textbooks I have read. This book is definitely a keeper.
I read this for grad school and found it to be one of the most "readable" textbooks I've had. It's filled with great examples to illustrate well-researched ideas and concept. Basically, it's accessible and interesting.
