This book, like the first in the series, "Journey to the Inner Chamber," wrongly teaches the biblical doctrine of sanctification. Using the literary tool of allegory, Fleming portrays the Christian life through two categories: those who "abide not" and those who "abide in Christ." The unnamed protagonist, although a Christian, must become like Gabe, who has learned to "abide." This is a rebranding of "Higher Life" theology.
What Fleming fails to understand here is that all believers abide in Christ. The concept of abiding from John 15 is a metaphor regarding perseverance not a metaphor for a "carnal" or "superficial" Christian.
If you're looking for an allegory, read Pilgrim's Progress instead.
What an amazing story and understanding of what it means to abide in Christ. so many Christians believe that only by believing in God and Christ is enough to receive his abiding love. The Bible tells us that if don’t abide in him. He will not abide in us. meaning we won’t receive the promises of His abiding love, Grace, Mercy. just like a branch receives it’s nutrients by being connected to the tree/branch, it survive and not die. So will we, die spiritually if we don’t Abide in Him. John 15,5
A short read, but a very poignant lesson in what being a disciple of Jesus is all about. The story is told from Rocky's perspective under the discipleship of a humble, wise old man who transformed his own life by following the teaching of Jesus. It is thought provoking and challenging but solidly rooted in scripture. I would recommend this book to Christians, seekers and anyone even mildly curious about what Jesus taught about himself and God the Father.
This is another of Rocky Fleming’s awesome books. If you have not already read any of his books this book is great but I recommend his earlier books first but definitely read the book. Just look up his book by date
I would not have enjoyed this book if not for being in the journey. There are good biblical tenants portrayed throughout this book, but it comes across as corny and unconvincing story telling.
